Decreased fertility associated with maternal ageing is a well‐known critical problem, and progesterone (P4) concentration decreases during the menopause transition in women. The corpus luteum (CL) secretes P4, thereby supporting the implantation and maintenance of pregnancy. It is proposed that a bovine model is suitable for studying age‐associated decline of fertility in women because the physiology of cows is similar to that of women and cows have a greater longevity compared with other animal models. Thus, we investigated the age‐dependent qualitative changes and inflammatory responses in the bovine CL. In vivo experiment: Cows were divided into three groups, namely, young (mean age: 34.8 months), middle (80.1 months) and aged (188.9 months). Blood samples were collected on days 7 and 12 during the estrous cycle. In vitro experiments: Cows were divided into young (mean age: 27.6 months) and aged (183.1 months). The CL tissues of these groups were collected from a local slaughterhouse and used for tissue culture experiments. An in vivo experiment, plasma P4 concentration in aged cows was significantly lower than that in young cows, whereas no difference was found regarding the area of CL. An in vitro examination in the bovine CL tissues showed that the luteal P4 concentration, P4 secretion, and mRNA expression of StAR and 3β‐HSD were lower in aged cows compared with young cows, especially in the early luteal phase. However, no differences were detected in the mRNA expression of inflammation‐ and senescence‐related factors and inflammatory responses to lipopolysaccharides between the CL tissues from young and aged cows, indicating that an age‐dependent increase in inflammation is not involved in the luteal function. P4 production and secretion from the bovine CL diminish in old cows, especially during the early luteal phase, suggesting that senescence may affect the luteal function in cows.  相似文献

Bergeyella zoohelcum causes rare but severe human clinical diseases, which mostly arise from animal bites. Notably, Bergeyella infections can also occur in older people after prolonged exposure to dogs or cats without biting. We detected B. zoohelcum in oral cavities of therapy dogs in close contact with older people residing in nursing homes. Twenty‐two bacterial isolates were identified as B. zoohelcum by using matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (MALDI‐TOF MS) and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Our results showed that MALDI‐TOF MS is an effective tool for rapid identification of rarely isolated, difficult‐to‐identify microorganisms, such as B. zoohelcum, derived from not only human clinical samples but also animal samples. To our knowledge, this is the first report on detection of B. zoohelcum from therapy dogs. We have provided information on dog‐assisted therapy to improve the relationship between humans and animals in ageing societies, particularly for preventive healthcare of older people living in nursing care facilities.  相似文献

Forty-two-day-old wheat (Triticum aestivum L. var. Asakazekomugi) plants were treated with complete, K-free (—K), Ca-limited (—Ca), and Mg-free (—Mg) nutrient solutions for 10 days using 2 mM NH4NO3 as the nitrogen source, which was replaced with 4 mM 15 NH4C1 or Na15NO3 for the subsequent 2 days to investigate the absorption, translocation, and assimilation of inorganic nitrogen in relation to the mineral supply. In another experiment plants were grown on NO3 ?, NH4 +, NH4N03, and K-free and Ca-limited NH4N03 nutrient solutions for 10 days, and then in the latter three treatments the nitrogen source was replaced with NO3 ? and half of the —K plants received K for 6 days to examine the changes in the nitrate reductase activity (NRA).

Wheat plants absorbed NH4 ?N and NO3-N at a similar rate. Influence of K on the absorption of N03-N was stronger than that on the absorption of NH4-N in wheat plants. The supply of K to the —K plants increased the absorption of NO3-N, while the absorption of NH4-N still remained at a lower rate in spite of the addition of K. A limited supply of Ca and lack of Mg in nutrient media slightly affected the absorption of NH4-N. The influence of K was stronger on the translocation of nitrogen from roots to shoots, while Ca and Mg had little effect. When K was supplied again to the —K plants the translocation of NO3,-N was more accelerated than that of NH4-N. Incorporation of NH4-N into protein was higher than that of NO3-N in all the tissues; root, stem, and leaf. Assimilation of NH4-N and NO3-N decreased by the —K and —Mg treatments.

Leaf NRA of wheat plants decreased in the —K and —Ca plants. Higher leaf NRA was found when K was given again to the —K plants than when the plants were continuously grown in K-free media. Replacement of NO3 ? with NH4 + as the nitrogen source caused a decline of leaf NRA, while the supply of both NH4 ?N and NO3-N slightly affected the leaf NRA.  相似文献

The effect of melamine content in melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resins on the formaldehyde emission and resin structure was investigated using six MUF resins synthesized with different F/(M + U) and M/U molar ratios. The formaldehyde emission from the plywood decreased as the F/(M + U) molar ratio decreased and the M/ U molar ratio increased. In addition, the bond performance was enhanced as the M/U molar ratio increased in the MUF resins with a fixed F/(M + U) molar ratio. Quantitative solution13C-NMR spectra of MUF resins revealed that the MUF resins with a high melamine content consisted of more highly branched crosslinkage structure and free melamine compared to the resins with low melamine contents. Furthermore, solid-state13C CP-MAS NMR spectra of cured MUF resins proved that more methylol groups, dimethylene ether, and branched methylene structures were present in the MUF resins with a higher F/(M + U) molar ratio, leading to increased bond strength and formaldehyde emission. There is no significant difference in the linkage structure of the cured resins with the same F/(M + U) and different M/U molar ratios except the ratios of carbonyl carbon of urea and triazine carbon of melamine. Therefore, the lower formaldehyde emission from cured MUF resins with a higher M/U molar ratio might be ascribed to the stronger linkages between triazine carbons of melamine than those of urea carbons. Consequently, the melamine contributed to strong crosslinking linkages in the cured resin structures, leading to lower formaldehyde emission and better bond performance.Part of this work was presented at the 48th Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Shizuoka, April 1998  相似文献

Over a three-year period, CO(2) exchange rates were measured continuously on the aboveground parts of a 13-year-old hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa (Sieb. et Zucc.) Endl.) tree in the field, using an open gas-exchange system tracking ambient temperature. The relationship between daily aerial respiratory consumption and daily gross production, which was analyzed monthly, closely resembled McCree's equation. The value of the coefficient of growth respiration ranged between 0.0 in winter and 0.16 in summer and increased with increasing monthly mean temperature. A clockwise loop was observed for monthly change in the relationship between the coefficient of growth respiration and temperature. Maintenance respiration could be formulated as a power function of aboveground dry weight. The exponent of the equation ranged from 0.3 to 1.1. A value of 1.1 in May and June, when trees were growing most actively, indicated that maintenance respiration was directly proportional to aboveground weight. In March, April, July, and August, maintenance respiration was not proportional to aboveground weight, but it was closely proportional to surface area. The exponent value exhibited seasonal change with a clockwise loop in response to monthly average temperature. During the dormant season, respiration was used only for maintenance purposes, whereas during the growing season both growth and maintenance respiration occurred. Annual growth and maintenance respiration increased with increasing tree age. The average annual contribution to total respiratory consumption was 21% for growth respiration and 79% for maintenance respiration.  相似文献

The competition–density (C–D) effect for Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook.) and Masson pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) stands was analyzed using the reciprocal equation of the C–D effect, i.e. 1/w=Aρ+B, where w and ρ, respectively, represent mean stem volume and stand density. The C–D curve, which is given by the reciprocal equation on logarithmic coordinates, shifted upward with the progress of time. The coefficients A and B included in the reciprocal equation were calculated at each growth stage. The biological time τ defined as the integral of λ(t), the coefficient of growth in the general logistic growth curve, with respect to physical time t, tended to increase to an asymptote with increasing t. With increasing τ, the coefficient A, the reciprocal of which means the asymptote of yield (=wρ), increased abruptly up to a maximum value and then tended to decrease gradually to a constant level. On the other hand, the coefficient B, the reciprocal of which means the asymptote of mean stem volume, decreased exponentially and tended to close to zero with increasing τ. The λ(t) decreased with increasing stand age, whereas the final yield Y(t) defined as W(t) ρ, where W(t) is the asymptote of w in the general logistic growth curve, tended to increase gradually with increasing stand age.  相似文献

To investigate the effects of soil water content on growth and transpiration of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) and Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa (Siebold et Zucc.) Endl.), potted seedlings were grown in well-watered soil (wet treatment) or in drying soil (dry treatment) for 12 weeks. Seedlings in the wet treatment were watered once every 2 or 3 days, whereas seedlings in the dry treatment were watered when soil water content (Theta; m3 m(-3)) reached 0.30, equivalent to a soil matric potential of -0.06 MPa. From Weeks 7 to 12 after the onset of the treatments, seedling transpiration was measured by weighing the potted seedlings. After the last watering, changes in transpiration rate during soil drying were monitored intensely. The dry treatment restricted aboveground growth but increased biomass allocation to the roots in both species, resulting in no significant treatment difference in whole-plant biomass production. The species showed similar responses in relative growth rate (RGR), net assimilation rate (NAR) and shoot mass ratio (SMR) to the dry treatment. Although NAR did not change significantly in either C. japonica or C. obtusa as the soil dried, the two species responded differently to the dry treatment in terms of mean transpiration rate (E) and water-use efficiency (WUE), which are parameters that relate to NAR. In the dry treatment, both E and WUE of C. japonica were stable, whereas in C. obtusa, E decreased and WUE increased (E and WUE counterbalanced to maintain a constant NAR). Transpiration rates were lower in C. obtusa seedlings than in C. japonica seedlings, even in well-watered conditions. During soil drying, the transpiration rate decreased after Theta reached about 0.38 (-0.003 MPa) in C. obtusa and 0.32 (-0.028 MPa) in C. japonica. We conclude that C. obtusa has more water-saving characteristics than C. japonica, particularly when water supply is limited.  相似文献

Prince Rupprecht's larch (Larix principis-rupprechtii Mayr) stands growing at three different densities were investigated to determine characteristics of self-thinning. Tree density decreased with increasing stand age, and the higher density stand had higher mortality than the lower one. Mean stem volume increased with increasing stand age, and the higher density stand had higher relative growth rate of mean stem volume than the lower one. Mean stem volume (ν) increased with decreasing tree density (ρ), resulting in self-thinning line being expressed as ln ν=lnK-α ln ρ, whereK and α are coefficients. The slope of self-thinning line, —α, over the whole study period for all sites was similar with a mean value of —2.13. The ν-ρ trajectories before reaching the self-thinning slope of—3/2 could be described by Tadaki's model. The phase self-thinning line tended to decrease toward a slope of—3/2 with increasing stand age, which trends agreed with those of the published data of aPinus strobus stand andP. densiflora stands.  相似文献
