A 2-year-old Maine coon cat was presented for a right forelimb lameness. Computed tomography of the shoulder revealed a shallow glenoid, osteophyte deposition at the caudal humeral head and medial glenoid, and an intra-articular osseous body. This cat had glenoid dysplasia and osteochondritis dissecans of the glenoid.  相似文献

A 9-month-old, castrated male, domestic shorthaired cat was presented for progressive right hind-limb lameness. A diagnosis of osteochondritis dissecans of the lateral femoral condyle was made based on radiographs and physical examination, and was confirmed by right lateral stifle arthrotomy. The cartilage flap was removed, and the underlying bone was curetted. Seven months later, the cat was sound on the right leg but developed a left hind-limb lameness. A similar lesion was found in the left leg and was treated identically. Fourteen months after presentation, the cat was sound on both hind limbs.  相似文献

A 6-year-old, male Labrador retriever was presented for lameness of the right forelimb. The lameness occurred 5 years after the dog was surgically treated for osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the caudal right humeral head. Radiographs revealed an expansile, osteolytic lesion occupying the entire caudal half of the right humeral head, and biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of osteosarcoma. Forelimb amputation was performed. Histopathology of the lesion and associated articular cartilage revealed neoplastic osteoblasts extensively infiltrating the marrow space adjacent to scar tissue associated with the previous OCD lesion. This is the first report of an epiphyseal osteosarcoma in the area of a previous OCD lesion in a dog.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging abnormalities in horses with lameness localized to the proximal metacarpal or metatarsal region have not been described. To accomplish that, the medical records of 45 horses evaluated with MR imaging that had lameness localized to either the proximal metacarpal or metatarsal region were reviewed. Abnormalities observed in the proximal suspensory ligament or the accessory ligament of the deep digital flexor tendon included abnormal high signal, enlargement, or alteration in shape. Twenty-three horses had proximal suspensory ligament desmitis (13 hindlimb, 10 forelimb). Sixteen horses had desmitis of the accessory ligament of the deep digital flexor tendon. One horse had desmitis of the proximal suspensory ligament and the accessory ligament of the deep digital flexor tendon on the same limb and one horse had desmitis of the proximal suspensory ligament on one forelimb and desmitis of the accessory ligament of the deep digital flexor tendon on the other forelimb. Four horses did not have abnormalities in the proximal suspensory ligament or accessory ligament of the deep digital flexor tendon. Eighty percent of horses with forelimb proximal suspensory ligament desmitis and 69% of horses with hindlimb proximal suspensory ligament desmitis returned to their intended use. Sixty-three percent of horses with desmitis of the accessory ligament of the deep digital flexor tendon were able to return to their intended use. MR imaging is a valuable diagnostic modality that allows diagnosis of injury in horses with lameness localized to the proximal metacarpal and metatarsal regions. The ability to accurately diagnose the source of lameness is important in selecting treatment that will maximize the chance to return to performance.  相似文献

Shoulder lameness in horses: an analysis of 58 suspected cases   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The results of a detailed investigation of 58 horses with suspected shoulder lameness are described. Lameness was found to originate distal to the shoulder region in 22 horses. No diagnosis was reached in five horses. Genuine shoulder problems occurred in 29 horses. The clinical signs of shoulder lameness are described and contrasted with lower limb lameness. The limitations of currently available diagnostic techniques are discussed. Problems identified in the shoulder region included osteochondritis dissecans, subchondral bone cysts, arthrosis, fracture, luxation, septic arthritis and soft tissue damage. Some of the differences between osteochondritis dissecans and subchondral bone cysts are described and it is suggested that these are two separate conditions.  相似文献

Occurrence, clinical and radiographical findings in ununited medial coronoid process in the ulna and osteochondritis dissecans in the humeral condyle in dogs are presented. One hundred and twelve dogs were examined because of forelimb lameness. Lesions were mostly seen in young dogs of heavy breeds especially the Rottweiler. The ratio male: female was about 2:1. Most of the dogs had bilateral lesions. The lameness varied between grade 1 and 3, judged according to a scale ranging from 1 to 5. The affected limbs were somewhat rotated outwards from the elbow and down. Since the ununited coronoid process is almost impossible to detect on a plain radiograph, it is necessary to look for the presence of secondary developed osteophytes, indicative of an arthrosis. Diagnosis is based upon clinical and radiographical findings, the age and the breed of the dog taken into consideration. Osteochondritis dissecans in the humeral condyle is usually easily seen on the dorsopalmar radiograph.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to characterize radiopharmaceutical uptake patterns in horses with clinical and ultrasonographic evidence of proximal suspensory desmitis. It was hypothesized that radiopharmaceutical uptake in the proximal palmar (plantar) aspect of the third metacarpal (metatarsal) bone would be greater in lame limbs of horses with proximal suspensory desmitis than in sound limbs and that there would be a positive correlation between the severity of ultrasonographic abnormalities and the degree of radiopharmaceutical uptake. Nuclear scintigraphic evaluation of the proximal metacarpal or metatarsal regions of 126 horses with ultrasonographic evidence of proximal suspensory desmitis was performed. In all horses lameness was substantially improved by perineural analgesia of the palmar metacarpal (subcarpal) or plantar metatarsal (subtarsal) nerves. Scintigraphic images were assessed subjectively, by profile analysis and using region of interest analysis. Associations between the degree of ultrasonographic abnormality and radiopharmaceutical uptake ratios and the presence of radiographic abnormalities and radiopharmaceutical uptake ratios were analyzed. Subjectively, the majority of horses had normal radiopharmaceutical uptake. Profile analysis provided little additional information. However with region of interest analysis there was greater radiopharmaceutical uptake ratios in plantar images in the proximal metatarsal regions of lame limbs compared with nonlame limbs. There was no association between radiological abnormalities and radiopharmaceutical uptake ratios. In forelimbs there was no association between ultrasonographic lesion grade and radiopharmaceutical uptake ratios, however in hindlimbs there was a significant relationship between ultrasonographic grade and radiopharmaceutical uptake ratios.  相似文献

The diagnosis and treatment of two cases of osteochondritis dissecans affecting the lateral ridge of the trochlea of the tibial tarsal bone is described. Radiographs taken in medio-lateral and oblique projections proved to be the most valuable for diagnosis. The lesions were treated surgically via a limited cranio-lateral approach. An 8-month-old male Pekingese was admitted with a 1-month history of right hindlimb lameness and crepitation in the right coxofemoral joint. There was radiographic evidence of a focus of subchondral osteolysis of the right femoral head. The tentative diagnosis was avascular necrosis of the femoral head. The problem was corrected by femoral head ostectomy. Gross and microscopic examination of the femoral head resulted in a diagnosis of osteochondritis dissecans. Osteochondritis dissecans is an uncommon diagnosis both in small breeds of dogs and in the coxofemoral joint.  相似文献

Limb joint soundness was examined in 40 pigs loaded into a wooden box cart and 40 control pigs not subjected to loading. On postmortem examination, eight loaded pigs showed osteochondritis dissecans in their medial humeral condyles, suggesting that porcine joints are vulnerable to osteochondral lesions when mechanically overloaded. Prevention of trauma by careful handling of pigs during penning and transportation should help to control joint lesions and lameness.  相似文献

A muscle separating approach with tenotomy of the teres minor was used to expose osteochondritis dissecans lesions in the shoulder joints of five horses. Horses selected for surgery were severely lame or had a long history of lameness. Adequate surgical access allowed removal of cartilage flaps, curettage of the subchondral bone, and in one horse, the removal of an osteocartilaginous free body. Surgical wounds healed by primary intention; one horse developed a seroma that was drained. Three of the five horses were clinically sound 3 months following surgery. Two other horses were pasture sound but lame after extensive athletic activity.  相似文献

Eight sports horses with unilateral (4) or bilateral (3) forelimb or unilateral hindlimb (1) lameness had subtle radiologic abnormalities of the subchondral bone of the sagittal groove of the proximal phalanx associated with moderate or intense increased radiopharmaceutical uptake. High‐field or low‐field magnetic resonance (MR) imaging confirmed the presence of a fissure fracture or subchondral and trabecular bone trauma. Seven of eight lesions were located approximately midway between the dorsal and palmar cortices of the proximal phalanx; the eighth was sited more dorsally. Two horses underwent follow‐up MR imaging and abnormal signal intensity persisted, with little change.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to establish the frequency of occurrence, intensity and symmetry of focal increased radiopharmaceutical uptake in the dorsoproximal aspect of the diaphysis of the proximal phalanx; to determine if this focal increased radiopharmaceutical uptake was related to age, height, gender, breed, bodyweight, or discipline of the horse, and if there was any relationship with lameness. Scintigraphic images from 690 horses were analyzed subjectively and objectively. Age, breed, discipline, height, weight, gender, and lame limb(s) or reasons for presentation were recorded for all horses. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify associations between available variables and focal increased radiopharmaceutical uptake. Focal increased radiopharmaceutical uptake was present in 17% of forelimbs and 7% of hindlimbs. It occurred most frequently in the forelimbs of older, taller, and heavier warmblood and warmblood cross dressage horses, and the hindlimbs of older, taller, and heavier showjumpers and dressage horses. It was usually bilaterally symmetrical and was not associated with lameness.  相似文献

The clinical histories of nineteen cases of osteochondritis dissecans of the medial ridge of the tibial tarsal bone are described. The clinical signs were lameness and a reduced range of joint flexion. Radiography demonstrated changes over the medial ridge of the tibial tarsal bone. Untreated cases remained lame and the rapid development of degenerative joint changes was noted. Cases treated promptly by arthrotomy, removal of the detached flap of cartilage and curettage made a quick and permanent recovery. Access to the lesion was gained by a postero-medial approach.  相似文献

A condition of the stifle joints of a young Alsatian bitch, resembling osteochondritis dissecans of the humeral head of the dog, is described. This case is compared with osteochondritis dissecans of the canine humeral head and with osteochondritis dissecans of the human knee.

A matched case-control study was conducted to evaluate dietary components and exercise patterns as potential risk factors for osteochondritis dissecans in dogs. A telephone interview, with a standard questionnaire and protocol, was used to collect data on dietary intake of calories and nutrients and on the usual amounts and types of exercise of each dog. Thirty-one dogs with osteochondritis dissecans and 60 controls were matched on the basis of breed, sex, and age. Using a conditional logistic regression model, high dietary calcium, playing with other dogs, and drinking well water (rather than city water) were associated with increased risk of osteochondritis dissecans. Feeding of specialty dry dog foods was associated with decreased risk.  相似文献

Data are lacking in the literature regarding the incidence of osteochondrosis (dissecans) [OC(D)] in relation to lameness evaluation in Dutch Warmblood horses. The objective of this retrospective study was to assess the incidence of radiological abnormalities consistent with osteochondrosis or osteochondrosis dissecans in 1,231 sound Dutch Warmblood (DW) horses presented for pre-purchase examination. Standardised (Dutch) pre-purchase examination protocols were evaluated. The pre-purchase examination included a clinical, lameness and radiological evaluation, performed at a private equine clinic in the Netherlands. Radiographical examination included views of the distal (DIP) and proximal (PIP) interphalangeal, metacarpo- and metatarsophalangeal (MCP/MTP), tarsocrural (TC) and femoropatellar (FP) joints. Radiographical evidence of OC(D) was found in 44.3% of clinically sound DW horses. In this study, 443 horses (36%, n = 1,231) had evidence of OCD and 102 horses (8.3%, n = 1,231) had evidence of OC on pre-purchase radiographs. The results also indicated that the TC joints were significantly more likely to be affected. A considerable number of horses did not demonstrate any lameness, although radiographs revealed OC(D).  相似文献
