Abstract The interactions between cage culture and wild fishery activities in three Indonesian reservoirs, Saguling, Cirata and Jatiluhur, of the greater Ciratum watershed, West Java, were evaluated using historical data and interviews with cage culture operators. In all three reservoirs, cage culture of common carp, Cyprinus carpio L., and later of common carp and Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.), were encouraged as an alternative livelihood for persons displaced by the impoundment. Currently, a two‐net culture system, locally known as ‘lapis dua’, in which in the inner cage (7 × 7 × 3 m) is used for common carp culture and the outer cage (7 × 7 × 5/7 m) is stocked with Nile tilapia, is practised. On average each cage is stocked with approximately 100 kg fingerlings each of common carp and Nile tilapia. The numbers of cages and production of cultured fish has increased in the reservoirs, but total and per cage production began to decline from about 1995 in Saguling from 2200 kg cage?1 in 1989 to <500 kg cage?1 in 2002, and in Cirata from a peak of approximately 2300 kg cage?1 in 1995 to approximately 400 kg cage?1 in 2002. In Jatiluhur, which has a considerably lower cage density, total fish production and production per cage has increased since 2000, and currently is approximately 4000 kg cage?1, close to production in the early years of cage culture activities. The cage culture operations also resulted in substantial nutrient loading, estimated at 3.2, 15.2 and 3.1 t of nitrogen and 134, 636 and 128 kg of phosphorous per year in the maximum years of production for Saguling, Cirata and Jatiluhur reservoirs, respectively. In later years, when cage culture production was high, fish kills occurred in the cages, and in Jatiluhur reservoir coincided with a dramatic decline in wild fishery catches. An attempt is made to determine the maximum number of cages for each of the reservoirs that will bring long‐term sustainability of cage culture operations and the wild fisheries in the three reservoirs.  相似文献

This is the first controlled experiment to quantify the effect of introduced tilapia on indigenous species. This experiment was conducted in small earthen ponds (100 m2) to assess the impact of mixed‐sex or all‐male Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) on small indigenous species (SIS) commonly found in south Asia, mola (Amblypharyngodon mola), chela (Chela cachius) and punti (Puntius sophore). Ponds were fertilized, then stocked with 0.56 fish m?2 of water surface area in the mixed‐sex and all‐male tilapia treatments and 0.42 fish m?2 in the treatment without tilapia. No additional nutritional inputs were applied after stocking. Treatments were: mixed‐sex tilapia with SIS, mono‐sex male tilapia with SIS and SIS without tilapia (control). All treatments were stocked with 14 fish per species. All species reproduced during the 21‐month culture duration. The number of recruits varied by species, Tilapia reproduced in greater numbers than SIS. Tilapia numbers at harvest were the highest (451 ± 25/100 m2) in the mixed‐sex treatment compared with mola (221 ± 22/100 m2), chela (94 ± 8/100 m2) and punti (100 ± 7/100 m2). The number of mola was higher (399 ± 33/100 m2) in the all‐male tilapia treatment. There was reduction in the number of mola and chela in the treatment containing mixed‐sex tilapia. Gut content analysis combined with water sampling revealed that all fish species fed selectively. Significant interspecies dietary overlap was found between Nile tilapia and SIS and among SIS. Thus, there is potential for tilapia to compete with indigenous fish species when space and other resources are limiting, but a longer duration study with varying level of management is needed to determine how successfully tilapia competes with locally adapted SIS.  相似文献

The fish production parameters of five polyculture combinations, consisting of small and large silver barb, Puntius gonionotus (Bleeker), small and large Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.), and small common carp, Cyprinus carpio L., fingerlings in three replicates, were investigated in a rice-fish culture experiment (duration 149 days) conducted in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The survival rate was not significantly (P > 0.05) affected by the polyculture combination, but when grouped according to species, the mean survival of silver barb and tilapia was 64.3% and 63.7%, respectively, significantly higher than the mean common carp survival rate (33.4%). The growth of silver barb and tilapia was proportionally related to the stocking density, probably because of intraspecific competition and a synergistic interaction between silver barb and tilapia. The growth of common carp was not significantly different among the polyculture combinations. The highest net production (474.1 kg ha?1) was obtained in the polyculture combination consisting of 80% small-sized silver barb fingerlings, but the fish was not marketable at that time. In concurrent rice-fish culture, it is recommended to raise large silver barb fingerlings. Small tilapia can be polycul-tured with silver barb, provided a stocking density lower than 1400 ha?1. Common carp is considered less suitable because of a limited tolerance for the water quality conditions in the ricefield and the large size required by the market.  相似文献

The main goal of this research was to analyse in vitro compatibility of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) digestive proteinases and enzymes recovered from species comprising fishery waste as Pleoticus muelleri, Artemesia longinaris and Patagonotothen ramsayi. It evaluated the use of exogenous enzymes as feed supplements to increase digestion efficiency in tilapia fingerlings and juveniles (3.5 ± 0.11 g and 11.6 ± 1.5 g, respectively). We successfully have obtained proteinases from fishery waste as source of exogenous enzymes. P. muelleri and A. longinaris enzymes had more activity of acid and alkaline proteinases than P. ramsayi. SDS‐PAGE gels demonstrated that Nile tilapia digestive proteinases keep their activity when combined with each exogenous proteinase. Exogenous enzymes varied in their ability to enhance hydrolysis of different feed ingredients. P. muelleri by‐products are the best candidates to be employed as feed supplements for tilapia juveniles. Enzymes from this by‐product did not affect the activity and integrity of fish digestive enzymes, improved the hydrolysis of different protein sources (fish meal, squid meal, shrimp meal and soybean meal), and maintained its activity after being exposed to high temperatures and acid pHs. Our findings are applicable to other places where O. niloticus is raised utilizing local fishery waste, and also to different cultured species.  相似文献

Lake Naivasha is a shallow, freshwater lake in the eastern Rift Valley of Kenya. Its fish community now comprises only introduced species. Oreochromis spirulus niger was stocked in 1925 as a forage fish for the largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides, introduced in 1929 for sport fishing. Further introductions of tilapiines followed for commercial exploitation. A gillnet fishery opened in 1959, and the annual species catch composition to 2000 was dominated by Oreochromis leucostictus. Following their accidental introduction, carp Cyprinus carpio appeared in catches in 2002; by 2010, it comprised >99% of landings by weight. Carp now provides a sustainable fishery in a lake heavily impacted by anthropogenic stressors, including water abstraction and nutrient enrichment. Oreochromis niloticus was reintroduced in 2011 to reinvigorate tilapia stocks following the collapse of its stocks in the 1990s and early 2000s, and the African catfish Clarias gariepinus is now captured in small but increasing numbers. The current status of the fishery, especially the predominance of carp, presents major management challenges; these are addressed by stakeholder engagement and co‐management. The introductions have artificially created a commercial fishery that provides substantial societal benefits in a semi‐arid region of a developing country with high poverty levels.  相似文献

We used 12 land-based experimental enclosures (6 m × 5 m) in a saline–alkaline pond of shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) to determine the impact of net-isolated polyculture of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) on plankton communities for 40 days. Tilapias were stocked in net cages suspended in enclosures, in polyculture ponds including tilapia and shrimp. Four tilapia biomass were tested: 0, 39, 115 and 227 g m−2. Shrimp stocking biomass were 0.7 g m−2 in all treatments. There were three replicates in each treatment. Our results showed that the presence of tilapia significantly reduced phytoplankton biomass directly through predation and indirectly through top-down effect. The stocking of tilapia reduced zooplankton biomass, particularly rotifer biomass. However, copepod biomass was not been significantly affected. So, net-isolated polyculture of tilapia can thus have a strong impact on phytoplankton allowing the co-existence of large numbers of copepods with planktivorous fish and improving the water quality of shrimp ponds.  相似文献

Catfish (mean W0 189 g) were added to ponds (525 mJ each) stocked with 230 hand-sexed, male tilapia (Wu163 g), at 0.04, 0.10 and 0.15 catfish m?2. In each pond, two female tilapias were introduced, thereby creating a sexing error of less than 1%. Feeding was fixed throughout the experiment at 2.5 kg of cottonseed cake per day per pond 6 days per week (mean feeding rate R = 41 kg ha?1 day-1). Rearing time was 125 days. Average net pond production per treatment (ranging between 7.5 and 7.9 t ha?1 year?1) and marketable production were not different between treatments but net tilapia production was significantly lower at the highest catfish density. Both catfish and tilapia growth were negatively correlated with catfish density due to feed competition near the end of the experiment. It was concluded that catfish efficiency in controlling tilapia recruitment was strongly reduced by the availability of supplementary high-protein feed. Large catfish competed with the parent tilapia for the cottonseed cake but apparently did not exploit the tilapia recruits. Yield of tilapia recruits was lowest at the highest catfish fingerling density, although this was not significant. The number of catfish fingerlings was significantly higher at the lowest catfish density, which indicated that large catfish preyed on catfish fingerlings.  相似文献

Twelve production trials were analysed retrospectively, covering three different rearing methods in which Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.), were fed with combinations or cottonseed cake and brewery waste. Highest extrapolated net pond productions, including tilapia recruits, were obtained in tilapia fingerling rearing (W0 <10 g; 11.8 t ha?1 year?1). Stocking African catfish, as police-fish (0.2 catfish m?2) in mixed tilapia (W0 > 90 g) culture was effective in controlling tilapia recruitment, but net pond production was low (4.1 t ha?1 year?1). Hand-sexing of male tilapias (W0 > 90 g) only limited recruitment but resulted in a significantly higher net pond production (8.6 t ha?1 year?1) than in mixed culture. Extrapolated marketable production in the treatment stocked with hand-sexed tilapia males (tilapia only) was also higher than the extrapolated marketable production in the mixed culture treatment (tilapia and catfish combined), although this difference was not significant. Extrapolated net pond production and extrapolated net tilapia production were both significantly correlated to the daily feeding rate of cottonseed cake but not to the daily feeding rate of brewery waste. The high relative FCRs of the feed mixture were probably due to the brewery waste.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted with tilapia-catfish polyculture at the Lagdo Fisheries Station in northern Cameroon. The objectives were: 1. To estimate the effect of supplementary cottonseed cake on net pond production in ponds already receiving dried cattle manure as basic treatment: and 2. To study the performance of African catfish, Clarias gariepinus (Burchell). in recruitment control of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.). Recruitment control is essential in obtaining large tilapia sizes demanded in the market. Cottonseed cake, the most important agricultural by-product in the region, is expensive. Dried cattle manure may be collected free from corrals deserted by pastoral ethnic groups. Three treatments were tested in duplo in six earthen ponds of 525 m2 each; treatment A. daily application of dried cattle manure only (266 kg ha?1 day?1); treatment B, daily manure + cottonseed at a nominal daily rate of 3% of tilapia biomass: treatment C, daily manure + cottonseed cake at 6% of tilapia biomass. Stocking densities per pond were 250 male Nile tilapia (mean Wo 222 g), 150 female tilapia (W0= 202 g), 30 ‘large’ African catfish (Wo= 198 g); and 30 ‘small’ catfish (W0= 52 g). Mean fish densities were 0.76 tilapia m?2 and 0.11 catfish m?2. Application of dried manure and cottonseed cake was 6 days per week, and the culture period was 100 days. Fish were sampled every month and feeding rates were adjusted accordingly. Dissolved oxygen content and algal turbidity (Secchi disc) were measured once a week. Extrapolated net pond productions, including recruits, were: -0.41 ha?1 year?1 (treatment A); 4.8 t ha?1 year?1 (treatment B) and 6.5 t ha?1 year?1 (treatment C). Differences between treatments B and C were not significant(P < 0.05). Fertilization with dried cattle manure only (zero cottonseed cake) led to a negative net pond production in treatment A (negative net tilapia production but slightly positive net catfish production). Dried manure at the given application rate did not contribute sufficient nutrients to maintain the stocked fish biomass via enhanced natural production, while pond biomass was high for such an extensive system (manure only). Best fish growth was observed in treatment C (male tilapia, 0.9 gday?1: large catfish, 6.9 g day?1) although differences between treatments B and C were not significant. Growth of male and female was not significantly different, but growth rates of tilapia and catfish were significantly different (P & lt; 0.05). Average yields of tilapia recruits in treatment B (1539 kg ha?1 year?1) and C (1829 kg ha?1year?1) were about four times the average yield of recruits in treatment A (468 kg ha?1 year?1) but differences between treatments A, B and C were not significant. It was sugcess, or the reproductive efficiency of tilapia in treatment A could have been lower as a result of that treatment. However, clouds of up-swimming fry appeared to be at least as numerous in the replicate ponds of treatment A as in the ponds of treatments B and C.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of the stocking density of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) on shrimp and tilapia growth and nutrient conversion in an integrated closed recirculating system both with and without Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). A 2 × 3 factorial design involving tilapia presence/absence and shrimp stocking densities of 40, 80 and 120 m?2 was applied, using a tilapia:shrimp ratio of 0.025. There were no significant interactions between tilapia presence and shrimp stocking density in terms of shrimp growth performance or feed utilization. The presence of tilapia had no effect on the shrimp growth rate, survival rate or total weight gain (%). Shrimp growth declined significantly with increased shrimp stocking density, but the growth of tilapia was not significantly different among the three shrimp densities tested. The conversion of feed nitrogen and phosphorus into total harvested animal biomass was significantly higher in the presence than in the absence of tilapia. The nutrient conversion rate at the lowest shrimp density (40 m?2) was significantly higher than at the highest density tested (120 m?2).  相似文献

Abstract

Because Saudi Arabia is a substantial importer of fish and its capture fishery is operating beyond maximum sustainable limits, it has a special interest in developing fish farming. It has been encouraging tilapia production. This study examines the costs of tilapia farming in the Central Region of Saudi Arabia using cross sectional data from 23 intensive fish farms. It provides information about the relative importance of different cost items such as variable costs and feed costs in total costs. Also, cost functions are estimated by ordinary least squares and a cubic cost function is found to provide the best fit to the available data. Minimum average cost of production occurs for 201 tonnes of tilapia per year per farm and profit is maximised for a production of 300 tonnes annually per farm. All farms operate at less than profit‐maximising scale and most operate at less than minimum efficient scale. The reasons could be low quality fry, low levels of management expertise in culturing tilapia and the secondary nature of tilapia farming. Lack of water is likely to limit future expansion of tilapia farming in Saudi Arabia.  相似文献

Growth performance, carcass composition, liver and blood parameters ofscaled carp (C), Cyprinus carpio, and blue tilapia (T),Oreochromis aureus, reared for eight weeks in twomonoculture (100%C and 100%T) and two polyculture (60%C–40%T and40%C-60%T) conditions were investigated. In polyculture 40%C–60%T bothspecies achieved the highest levels of specific growth rate and the lowestlevels of food conversion ratio and carcass lipid content. In addition, theyexhibited the highest values of plasma pO2 and pH and the lowestvalues of plasma pCO2, cholesterol and albumin, although thedifferences among treatments were not significant in the case of tilapia.Tilapia showed significantly lower plasma Cl levels than underthe other conditions. Carp in monoculture and tilapia in polyculture60%C–40%T had the lowest levels of specific growth rate and significantlyhigher levels of liver lipids and plasma triglycerides than in the other groups. In addition, carp in monoculture exhibited a significantly higher haematocritthan in polyculture. No significant variations among treatments were observedconcerning plasma cortisol, glucose, osmolality, Na+, K+,HCO3 andHCO3 /H2CO3 in either species. The combination of scaled carp and blue tilapia, in which blue tilapia were themain species, proved to be the best for both species. It was suggested thatgrowth and physiological changes under mono- and polyculture rearing, in anintensive system, seem to be as a result of a different state of stress relatedto fish behavior.  相似文献

Mushroom stalk waste (MSW) generated from the oyster mushroom industry is drastically increasing and safe disposal of MSW is becoming a critical issue worldwide. Mushrooms are an established, excellent source of nutraceuticals and antioxidants, and therefore MSW may confer similar effects when consumed. The severe deterioration of aquatic habitat may compromise the homoeostasis of antioxidative metabolism of Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, which resulted in a reduced total production. Based on this paradigm, hot water extracts (HWE, 2‐ and 5‐h) of MSW were evaluated as a supplement in fish feed and determined the effect on growth performance and the antioxidant status of Nile tilapia, O. niloticus, in vivo. The HWE 5‐h contained significantly higher amounts of nutrient and β‐glucan than HWE 2‐h (P < 0.05). Four standardized in vitro antioxidant assays showed that HWE 5‐h was a better antioxidant agent than HWE 2‐h (P < 0.05). Tilapia fingerlings fed 5 g kg?1 HWE supplemented feed produced better (P < 0.05) growth and higher antioxidant enzyme activities than 10 g kg?1 HWE, CD and BD. Thus, HWE of MSW included at 5 g kg?1 may be beneficial to tilapia farming and may also provide a way of disposing the waste created by mushroom farming.  相似文献

The present research investigated the effect of stocking density on pond (75 m2, depth 1.2 m) production of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) stocked at a fixed 3:1 tilapia:prawn ratio. Three stocking densities were tried in triplicate: 20 000 ha−1 (treatment TP‐20), 30 000 ha−1 (TP‐30) and 40 000 ha−1 (TP‐40). The ponds were provided with bamboo as substrate for periphyton development. Bamboo poles (mean diameter 5.5 cm and 5.0 poles m−2) were posted vertically into pond bottoms, resulting in 60% additional substrate area in each pond. On average, 43 genera of algae and 17 genera of zooplankton were identified from pond water, whereas 42 genera of algae and six genera of microfauna were attached to bamboo substrates. No differences were observed between treatments in the ash‐free dry matter (AFDM), chlorophyll a and phaeophytin a content of periphyton (P>0.05). Survival of tilapia and prawn and individual weight gain of tilapia were lower (P<0.05) in treatment TP‐40. The net yields were higher (P<0.05) in treatments TP‐30 (2209 and 163 kg ha−1 105 day−1 of tilapia and prawn respectively) and TP‐40 (2162 and 141 kg ha−1 of tilapia and prawn respectively) than in treatment TP‐20 (1505 and 136 kg ha−1 of tilapia and prawn respectively). The net tilapia yields were quadratic correlated (R2=0.92) with fish stocking density. The cost–benefit analysis shows that the net profit margin was highest in treatment TP‐30 (69%), followed by TP‐20 (50%) and TP‐40 (44%).  相似文献

Tilapia juveniles are a very important life stage, and reliably assessing their growth performance is of prime importance in aquaculture production. The suitability of the RNA/DNA as a bioindicator for growth evaluation in tilapia has not yet been reported. In this study, we examined suitability of RNA/DNA ratio for assessing growth of tilapia juveniles and variation in the ratio under the concurrent influences of temperature and salinity using the central composite design and response surface methodology. Results showed that under our experimental conditions, the synergistic effects of temperature and salinity on the RNA/DNA ratio were highly significant (< 0.01), and the ratio varied with the two factors in a nonlinear fashion; the temperature × salinity interaction was detected at 1% significance level, and had a negative effect on the RNA/DNA ratio particularly at higher temperatures. Temperature was found to have a greater influence on RNA/DNA ratios than salinity. A model of the relation between RNA/DNA, temperature and salinity was developed, with an R2 greater than 98%. The linear relationships of absolute growth, cumulative growth and specific growth of tilapia juveniles to RNA/DNA ratio all showed an R2 of greater than 95%. Our results indicate that the RNA/DNA ratio was a responsive and accurate bioindicator for evaluating the growth performance of juvenile tilapia. These ratio‐based models are neither temperature‐ nor salinity‐dependent, and could be readily applicable to freshwater or brackish water aquaculture within temperature–salinity combinations ranging from 16 to 36°C and 0–16 ppt.  相似文献

Two floating diets and one sinking diet were prepared for tilapia with local ingredients by extrusion or steam‐pelleting methods. Indoor and outdoor feeding trials were conducted to evaluate their effects on growth performance and quality of tilapia products. Local ingredients included defatted Haematococcus and Spirulina by‐products from Hawaii. The three diets, plus a commercial feed, were each assigned to three replicate tanks, and each tank (120 L) was stocked with 12 juvenile tilapia in an 8‐week indoor trial. The results showed that (1) the floating diet had significantly (P < 0.05) higher weight growth than the sinking diet; (2) increased inclusion of local microalgae by‐product (defatted Haematococcus) in floating diet from 12% to 24% significantly (P < 0.05) decreased tilapia weight growth; and (3) the three microalgae‐added diets obtained higher (P < 0.05) weight growth than the commercial feed, although they contained lower protein (36.9% to 37.7%) and lipid (7.1% to 8.1%) than the commercial feed (42.3%; 8.6%). The floating diet (containing 12% microalgae) and the commercial feed were also tested in outdoor green water tanks, simulating the commercial production conditions of local tilapia farms. Each diet had three replicate tanks (1200 L) stocked with 100 juvenile tilapia. The 12‐week trial showed that the local diet had significantly (P < 0.05) lower growth (12.0 g week?1) than the commercial feed (14.8 g week?1). All tilapia meat products were measured with low n‐3 fatty acid contents. These results provide important information for feed formulation and production using local ingredients for tilapia.  相似文献

Animal manure has been traditionally used to fertilize fish ponds in Vietnam. While this practice effectively reuses agricultural wastes, high concentrations of pathogenic microorganisms in animal manure raise public health concerns. Working in fish ponds and handling of contaminated fish in unhygienic manner were identified as potential factors of occupational risk. Escherichia coli occurred in numbers <103 colony forming units (CFU)/100 mL in irrigation water and <104 CFU/100 mL in fish pond water that uses animal manure. Escherichia coli on tilapia skin in numbers were <103 CFU/100 cm in excreta-based systems and <101 CFU/100 cm in feed-based systems, respectively. The study identified direct use of animal manure as major contributors of the fecal contamination of pond water as well as skin of cultured fish. Estimated risks of enteric infection were 100–1000 times higher than the US Environmental Protection Agency acceptable risk. While these risk values are not likely to accurately predict infection rates in Vietnam, they indicate a potential occupational risk in the long term. Therefore, a need for risk mitigation measures was realized for health protection of future generation in agricultural communities.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of nursing duration on the subsequent performance of rohu (R) Labeo rohita and mrigal (M) Cirrhina mrigala in polyculture with monosex male Nile tilapia (T) Oreochromis niloticus at four levels of pond fertilization. Nile tilapia, rohu and mrigal were stocked at a ratio of 4:1:1 in a 90‐day trial based on 40 20‐m2 pens fixed in four 400‐m2 earthen ponds. Growth of carp fingerlings during prolonged nursing (5 or 12 months) was stunted compared with fish nursed over a conventional duration of 3 months (3) but showed superior growth subsequently. Mean daily weight gain of stunted rohu (12) ranged from 2.2 to 2.8 g per fish day?1 compared with 1.1–1.6 g per fish day?1 for younger fish (3). The comparable ranges for mrigal were 1.9–2.8 and 1.4–2.1 g per fish day?1. Growth of Nile tilapia was inversely related to duration of carp nursing at the four levels of fertilization. Nile tilapia showed more response to increasing levels of fertilizer input (Y=?1.421+1.716X, where Y is the daily weight gain of Nile tilapia and X is the fertilizer level, r2=0.98, P<0.01, n=12). At a high level of fertilization (3.0 kg N:1.5 kg P ha?1 day?1), performance of stunted fingerlings (5 and 12) of both rohu and mrigal was similar (range 2.3–2.8 g per fish day?1, P>0.05), but younger mrigal (M3) grew faster than rohu (2.1 g per fish day?1 and 1.6 g per fish day?1 respectively). Older rohu (12) appeared to perform particularly well, and Nile tilapia poorly at the lowest level of fertilization (1.5 N:0.75 kg P ha?1 day?1), suggesting the impact of age of seed on competition within polycultures. The net fish yield (NFY) of tilapia was not affected significantly (P>0.05) by differential stocking age of carps; therefore, combined NFY of the three experimental fish species was not affected by the age of carp, as tilapia was the dominant species in polyculture. The highest combined NFY of all species in the most intensively fertilized pond (3.0 N:1.5 P kg ha?1 day?1) was calculated at 4.06±0.08 g·m?2 day?1, which was significantly higher (P<0.001) than the yield (1.82±0.12 g·m?2 day?1) from the pond with the lowest fertilization. At the highest fertilizer level, tilapia, rohu and mrigal contributed 72%, 14% and 14%, respectively, to the NFY, whereas the ratio was 60%, 20% and 20% at the lowest fertilization level. The study indicated that yields from tilapia in polyculture with the two carp species in more eutrophic water can be optimized if advanced nursing of carps is practised. Moreover, higher inputs of inorganic fertilizer and advanced nursing of carp are economically attractive under Bangladeshi conditions. Advanced nursing of rohu also improves its performance in more extensive systems when tilapia densities are high.  相似文献

Juvenile edible crabs, Cancer pagurus L., were surveyed from Mumbles Head and Oxwich Bay in South Wales, UK, and the number of heterotrophic bacteria and vibrios in the hemolymph was determined. The percentage of crabs with hemolymph containing bacteria was variable over the survey with higher numbers of animals affected in summer than in winter. Post‐moult crabs contained significantly higher numbers of heterotrophic bacteria in the hemolymph than pre‐ and intermoult animals. Crabs with cuticular damage to the gills also had significantly higher numbers of bacteria in the hemolymph. Crabs were found to have a high prevalence of infection by the dinoflagellate, Hematodinium. Such animals had significantly fewer bacteria in the blood in comparison with Hematodinium‐free animals. Of the 463 crabs surveyed, only 3 individuals had hemolymph containing 2000 + CFU mL?1. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, two of these crabs contained a Vibrio pectenicida‐like isolate, while the other had a mixed assemblage of vibrios. Although 59% of the crabs surveyed had culturable bacteria in the hemolymph, the majority only had small numbers (<2000 CFU mL?1), suggesting that such infections may be of limited importance to the sustainability of the crab fishery in this region.  相似文献
