The desaturation of [1-14C]18:3n-3 to 20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3 is enhanced in an essential fatty acid deficient cell line (EPC-EFAD) in comparison with the parent cell line (EPC) from carp. In the present study, the effects of competing, unlabeled C18 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), linoleic (18:2n-6), -linolenic (18:3n-3), -linolenic (18:3n-6) and stearidonic (18:4n-3) acids, on the metabolism of [1-14C]18:3n-3 were investigated in EPC-EFAD cells in comparison with EPC cells. The incorporation of [1-14C]18:3n-3 in both cell lines was significantly reduced by competing C18 PUFA, with the rank order being 18:4n-3>18:3n-3 = 18:2n-6>18:3n-6. In the absence of competing PUFA, radioactivity from [1-14C]18:3n-3 in EPC cells was predominantly recovered in phosphatidylethanolamine followed by phosphatidylcholine. This pattern was unaffected by competing n-6PUFA, but n-3PUFA reversed this pattern as did essential fatty acid deficiency in the presence of all competing PUFA. The altered lipid class distribution was most pronounced in cells supplemented with 18:4n-3. Competing C18 PUFA significantly decreased the proportions of radioactivity recovered in 22:6n-3, pentaene and tetraene products, with the proportions of radioactivity recovered in 18:3n-3 and 20:3n-3 increased, in both cell lines. However, the inhibitory effect of competing C18 PUFA on the desaturation of [1-14C]18:3n-3 was significantly greater in EPC-EFAD cells. The magnitude of the inhibitory effects of C18 PUFA on [1-14C]18:3n-3 desaturation was dependent upon the specific fatty acid with the rank order being 18:4n-3>18:3n-3>18:2n-6, with 18:3n-6 having little inhibitory effect on the metabolism of [1-14C]18:3n-3 in EPC cells. The differential effects of the C18 PUFA on [1-14C]18:3n-3 metabolism were consistent with mass competition in combination with increased desaturation activity in EPC-EFAD cells and the known substrate fatty acid specificities of desaturase enzymes. However, the mechanism underpinning the greater efficacy with which the unlabeled C18PUFA competed with [1-14C]18:3n-3 in the desaturation pathway in EPC-EFAD cells was unclear.  相似文献

Despite the potential of vegetable oils as aquafeed ingredients, a major drawback associated with their utilization is the inferior level of beneficial n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA). Echium oil (EO), which is rich in stearidonic acid (SDA, 18:4n-3), could potentially improve the deposition of n-3 LC-PUFA as the biosynthesis of LC-PUFA is enhanced through bypassing the rate-limiting ?6 desaturation step. We report for the first time an attempt to investigate whether the presence of a desaturase (Fads2) capable of ?4 desaturation activities and an elongase (Elovl5) will leverage the provision of dietary SDA to produce a higher rate of LC-PUFA bioconversion. Experimental diets were designed containing fish oil (FO), EO or linseed oil (LO) (100FO, 100EO, 100LO), and diets which comprised equal mixtures of the designated oils (50EOFO and 50EOLO) were evaluated in a 12-week feeding trial involving striped snakeheads (Channa striata). There was no significant difference in growth and feed conversion efficiency. The hepatic fatty acid composition and higher expression of fads2 and elovl5 genes in fish fed EO-based diets indicate the utilization of dietary SDA for LC-PUFA biosynthesis. Collectively, this resulted in a higher deposition of muscle eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3) compared to LO-based diets. Dietary EO improved the ratio of n-3 LC-PUFA to n-6 LC-PUFA in fish muscle, which is desirable for human populations with excessive consumption of n-6 PUFA. This study validates the contribution of SDA in improving the content of n-3 LC-PUFA and the ratio of EPA to arachidonic acid (ARA, 20:4n-6) in a freshwater carnivorous species.  相似文献

The effects of various dietary lipids on the growth performance and muscle fatty acid and α-tocopherol concentrations of African catfish were examined. Seven isonitrogenous and isoenergetic semipurified diets were formulated with 10% lipid coming from either cod-liver oil (CLO), sunflower oil (SFO), refined, bleached, deodorized palm olein (RBDPO), crude palm oil (CPO), crude palm kernel oil (CPKO), or combinations of 5% CLO with either 5% of palm fatty acid distillates (PFAD) or 5% of residual oil in spent bleaching clay (SBC), respectively. Catfish fed with the CLO diet showed significantly (P<0.05) lower growth and feed utilization efficiency compared to fish fed with the other six diets after 7 weeks. The growth response among catfish fed with the other diets was not significantly different. Blending CLO with either PFAD or SBC alleviated the growth reduction observed in fish fed with diets having CLO as the sole lipid source. Dietary lipid source did not affect the whole-body composition or muscle lipid level among catfish fed with the various diets. The fatty acid and α-tocopherol concentration of muscle lipids in African catfish generally reflected the fatty acid profile and α-tocopherol concentration of the dietary oil that was fed. It was concluded that products from the palm oil industry could be successfully used in the diets for African catfish, and possibly other tropical catfish species, without negatively affecting growth and feed utilization efficiency. The availability, lower cost, low polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) content and high vitamin E concentration of palm oil make it the vegetable oil of choice for the formulation of fish feeds in tropical countries.  相似文献

Diacronema vlkianum was grown in polyethylene bags at two different temperatures (18 and 26°C) in the laboratory. The biochemical composition level decreased when the temperature increased from 18 to 26°C. The maximum cell number at 18°C was 11.9 × 106 cells ml−1, while maximum cell number at 26°C was 1.6 × 106 cells ml−1. The maximum level of α-tocopherol was 257.7 ± 21.6 μg g−1 dry weight (DW) at 18°C. The highest total carotenoids and chlorophylls were 6.5 mg g−1 DW and 4.3 mg g−1 DW, respectively, and the main pigments were determined as astaxanthin and lutein. Polyunsaturated fatty acids were found to be the predominant group, reaching 39.5% of the total fatty acids at 18°C. This comprised 20:5(n − 3) as the main polyunsaturated fatty acids (20.4%, at 18°C) followed by 22:6(n − 3) (4.8%, at 18°C). The results suggest that D. vlkianum can be successfully used as feed in shellfish hatcheries or aquaculture hatcheries, either as a substitute or in association with other microalgae, when this algae is cultured at 18°C.  相似文献

Phytoestrogens are putatively able to enhance the biosynthesis of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), but have also been shown to affect fish growth dose dependently. The aim of the present study was to identify a concentration for the phytoestrogen genistein and the phytoestrogen metabolite equol that further increases the endogenous biosynthesis of EPA and DHA without impairing fish growth. Juvenile rainbow trout (87.2 ± 0.3 g) were fed seven diets on a fixed ratio for 8 weeks. A vegetable oil‐based diet served as a control diet and was supplemented with equol (EQ) and genistein (G), respectively, at 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3% of feed dry matter (1, 2 and 3). Growth and nutrient composition of whole body homogenates were not affected by dietary treatments. EPA and DHA levels in liver, fillet and whole body samples were not significantly increased by EQ and G diets. Fish fed EQ diets showed dose dependently increased liver weights and C18:0 liver levels, indicating estrogen‐like effects at increased dietary dosages. In conclusion, the utilization of equol and genistein in plant oil‐based diets in order to enhance the biosynthesis of EPA and DHA seems not reasonable in rainbow trout.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of total replacement of fish oil (FO) with pork lard (PL), soybean oil (SO), or tea seed oil (TO) on growth and fatty acid compositions of hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus). Four diets were formulated to contain 4.5 % of each of the different lipid sources. Each diet was assigned to triplicate groups of 15 hybrid tilapia with the same initial body weight (4.6 ± 0.5 g). After a 10-week feeding, the FO, SO, and TO groups had similar final body weight. The mean hepatosomatic index in the FO group was significantly lower than the other groups (2.5 vs 2.9–3.0; P < 0.05). Whole-body lipid levels were highest in the TO group (5.2 ± 0.4 %) and lowest in the FO group (4.3 ± 0.5 %). Total n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) concentrations were greater in the SO and FO groups (5.5 ± 0.1 and 7.1 ± 0.2, respectively) than in the PL and TO groups (1.7 ± 0.1 and 1.4 ± 0.1, respectively). The FO group had a 2- to 4-fold reduction in the n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio relative to the other groups. The concentrations of both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) were significantly (P < 0.05) higher in the FO group than in the other groups. Our data demonstrate that total replacement of dietary FO with SO or TO has little effects on growth of hybrid tilapia but reduces the contents of health-benefiting DHA and EPA in fish body.  相似文献

γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA)-producing lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from four types of Myanmar traditional fermented fishery products with boiled rice. All of them belonged to the genus Lactobacillus, and comparison of the effects of these representatives on GABA accumulation in fermented fishery products with boiled rice revealed that Lactobacillus farciminis D323 is the most effective strain as a starter culture. These results may contribute to the development of traditional fermented fishery products with functional properties. In addition, this study is the first to show in detail the distribution of GABA-producing LAB in Southeast Asian fermented fishery products.  相似文献

Variations in digestive enzymes and hormones during the larval development of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) fed on live prey (Artemia nauplii) enriched with free methionine were investigated for 16 days (from day 24 to day 40). Prior to initiation of the experiment, newly hatched larvae were transferred from incubators to fiber glass tanks (300 l) with black walls and fed with same diets until day 24. Each experiment was performed in triplicate. In the experimental group, the content of the free methionine in the Artemia nauplii was increased by adding a 5.3 mM free methionine solution to the culture water during a 16-h enrichment period. The larvae of both the control and enriched-methionine groups were sampled four times, with 4-day intervals between samplings, during a 16-day period. The larvae in the control group had a significantly lower growth than those of the methionine group at the end of the study (P < 0.05). The highest trypsin activity and leucine aminopeptidase N/leucine–alanine peptidase ratios were observed in the control group. A significant difference between bombesin activities in the treatment groups was not found at 5th minute after the initiation of feeding (P > 0.05), but they were significant at 15th minute post-initiation of feeding (P < 0.05). A significant difference between the cholecystokinin levels of the treatment groups was found (P < 0.05).  相似文献

Studies on the alternative complement pathway (ACP) activity in fish have suggested the particular relevance of this pathway as a non-specific immune mechanism being its activation directly related with the availability of certain nutrients. In the present study ACP activity in gilthead seabream fed different dietary levels of a-tocopherol and n-3 HUFA deficiencies was studied under different stress conditions (overcrowding and repetitive chasing).A reduction in ACP activity was found when diets with deficiencies in -tocopherol and n-3 HUFA were assayed at any of the experimental conditions assayed. Levels of plasma cortisol were similar to those of fish after crowding stress subjected to dietary deficiencies at low stocking density, suggesting that dietary deficiencies produced a chronic elevation of cortisol. When fish were subjected to repetitive chasing, plasma cortisol from fish fed control diet showed a progressive increase whereas plasma cortisol levels from both dietary deficient groups showed a transitory peak 4 days after the beginning of the repetitive chasing. However, ACP activity levels of fish fed deficient diets remained lower than the control group and constant during chasing period. These results suggest that both a-tocopherol and n-3 HUFA nutritional deficiencies rather than stress are an important determinant of fish complement activity.  相似文献

Juvenile Arctic char, Salvelinus alpinus (L.), were fed two levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (5.5 or 2.5% of diet (37 or 16% of lipid respectively)), -tocopheryl acetate (70 or 300 mg kg–1 diet) and the antioxidant spermine (0 or 250 mg kg–1 diet) in a 3×2 factorial design and analysed for tissue fatty acid composition and indices of oxidative stress. The effect of temperature was evaluated by first maintaining the fish at 12 °C for 70 days and then 0.6 °C for 71 days. Liver and muscle fatty acid compositions were significantly influenced by the fatty acid compositions of the feed, although extensive modification of some fatty acids took place prior to deposition in the tissues. Maintaining char at low temperature increased liver PUFA content particularly in fish fed the low PUFA diets while no major changes were seen in muscle. Tissue - tocopherol deposition was mainly influenced by dietary - tocopheryl acetate. Dietary spermine had no influence on tissue levels of spermine. Dietary manipulation had no major influence on haematology and blood chemistry. High dietary PUFA increased the content of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in both liver and muscle. Neither -tocopheryl acetate nor spermine influenced tissue TBARS content. Lowering the environmental temperature influenced several parameters including haematology, blood chemistry and muscle spermine content, but none were related to diet. It is concluded that Arctic char is tolerant to a wide range of dietary content of PUFA (16 to 37% of lipid) and - tocopherol (70 to 300 mg kg–1), and that spermine offers no further protection against oxidative stress. It is suggested that toxic levels of PUFA is related to the amount in dietary lipid where more than 50% of lipid may be harmful to the fish.  相似文献

The immunomodulatory effect of garlic–mineral oil as a modified adjuvant was investigated in rohu, Labeo rohita along with formalin-killed Aeromonas hydrophila. The garlic extract was not having any proteolytic effect on the tested antigen as marked in SDS-PAGE. The efficacy of graded levels of modified adjuvant formulation was assessed by measuring serum hemolysin and agglutination titers as well as level of protection against A. hydrophila challenge in the immunized fish at days 10 and 30 post-vaccination (dpv). The higher hemolysin and bacterial agglutinin titers along with significantly lower mortality against A. hydrophila challenge in modified adjuvant-based vaccinated fish, particularly at low level of garlic incorporation, indicated the pronounced immunoadjuvant role of this modified adjuvant formulation in rohu.  相似文献

In fish, oocyte maturation (resumption of meiosis after completion of vitellogenesis and before ovulation) is triggered by maturation inducing steroids (MIS) which generally appear to be secreted in the ovary in response to stimulation by a pituitary maturational gonadotropin. Converging data from different laboratories show that 17-hydroxy, 20-dihydroprogesterone (17, 20-OH-P) is the principal MIS in salmonoids; but clear identification remains to be done in other taxonomic groups.The experiments reported here in the rainbow troutSalmo gairdneri examine the possible involvement of oocyte cAMP on the mechanism of MIS action. The action of 17, 20-OH-P, on germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD) in oocytes incubatedin vitro within the follicle, was inhibited by various substances expected to elevate the intraoocyte concentrations of cAMP: cAMP ( 1 mM) or dibutyril cAMP ( 2 mM), phosphodiesterase inhibitors such as theophylline ( 0.2 mM) or 3-isobutyl-1 methylxanthine (IBMX 0.1 mM), adenylate cyclase activators such as cholera toxin (> 100 nM) or forskolin ( 0.03 mM). In fact, the combined action of IBMX (1 mM) and forskolin (0.01 or 0.05 mM)in vitro was to promote accumulation of intraoocyte cAMP within 1 to 5 hours. Oocyte cAMP concentrations exhibited a large variability between different females, depending on the stage of oocyte development; a significant positive correlation between oocyte cAMP concentration and the follicular weight, and a significant negative correlation between oocyte cAMP concentration and the median efficient dose of 17, 20-OH-P for induction of GVBD, were observed. Finally, when intrafollicular oocytes were incubatedin vitro, the addition of a maturation-inducing concentration of 17, 20-OH-P (3×10–6M) induced a significant decrease of oocyte cAMP within the first 10 hours of incubation. These results show that cAMP appears to play a central role in the regulation of oocyte sensitivity to 17, 20-OH-P and in the intraoocyte mechanisms leading to GVBD in trout.These data are discussed together with the few indications available in fish concerning the mechanism of MIS action which can be compared to some extent with the amphibian model.  相似文献

In teleosts, a considerable part of the body calcium is found in the scales. Associated with the scales are osteoblasts and osteoclasts, and during periods of high calcium demand such as during sexual maturation or starvation, the scales can be resorbed and thereby act as an internal calcium reservoir. In mammalian bone tissue, the activity of an acid phosphatase (ACP) isoenzyme, tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP), can be used as a marker for osteoclastic activity. In the present study, an evaluation of TRACP as a marker for osteoclastic activity in teleost scales has been performed. ACP and TRACP was histologically localized at resorption sites around the edge of the scales as well as at resorption holes in the scales. The optimal conditions for biochemical measurements of ACP and TRACP activity were found to be pH 5.3, 10 mM paranitrophenylphosphate, incubated for 30 min at room temperature, and 10 mM tartrate added when required. Using TRACP as a marker, estradiol-17 (E2) was found to increase the proportion of scales being resorbed, as well as the number and size of resorption sites per scale. Also, the scales of E2-treated fish showed weaker staining for calcium. Together, the obtained data indicate that estradiol-17 induces osteoclastic activity in teleost scales, resulting in increased resorption of the scales. A period of refeeding following a period of starvation did not have detectable effects on the scale osteoclastic activity and scale resorption.  相似文献

The main aim of the present study was to examine the impact of some biological and environmental factors on the lipid and fatty acid compositions of farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), with special emphasis on 3 fatty acids. Two year groups of salmon at nine fish farms distributed along the Norwegian coast were fed the same diet and were sampled every second month. The data are believed to give a representative characterization of lipid and fatty acid content of salmon farmed in Norway.Multiple regression analysis revealed that variation in lipid content and body weight explained 80% of the variation found in 3 fatty acids in farmed salmon, and 22:6 3 showed greater variation than other 3 fatty acids. Further analysis of lipid-corrected values revealed only minor effects of latitude on the per cent content of highly unsaturated 3 fatty acids, and hardly any effect of seawater temperature, with the exception of 22:6 3, which decreased slightly with increasing temperature.The per cent 22:6 3 in the fillet became gradually reduced with increasing fish age and body weight, whereas the content of 20:5 3 and other 3 fatty acids remained relatively constant. The per cent content of 22:6 3 of young salmon was higher than in the feed, but approached the feed value gradually as body weight increased. The lipid content of the salmon increased with fish age, and the absolute quantitative contents of both 22:6 3 and 20:5 3 increased meanwhile, even though the per cent content of 22:6 3 decreased quite pronouncedly.The per cent 22:6 3 and other 3 fatty acids was higher in wild than in farmed salmon, but the absolute quantitative content was higher throughout in farmed salmon, which had higher lipid contents. The 3/6 ratio, which is important in human health evaluation, was lower in farmed than in wild salmon. The large flexibility of 3 fatty acids and lipid content of farmed salmon leave us with the option of producing a wide variety of salmon qualities requested by the market. Both per cent and absolute quantitative 3 contents, as well as the 3/6 ratio, may readily be manipulated.  相似文献

The female bambooleaf wrasse, Pseudolabrus japonicus, spawns daily during the spawning season, and exhibits a diurnal rhythm of ovarian development. In the present study, we have investigated: (1) circulating levels of 17a, 20-dihydroxy-4-pregnen- 17,20-P) and 17,20,21-trihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (20-S) in females sampled at different times of the day during spawning season in captivity, and (2) in vitro production of 17,20-P and 20-S by follicle-enclosed oocytes at seven different develo tal stages. In addition, we developed a microtiter plate enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for 17,20-P. Serum levels of 17,20-P and 20-S showed similar diurnal changes; substantial increases in these levels occurred around the time of germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD). In vitro experiments showed that massive production of 17,20-P and 20-S occurred in follicles collected just before or during GVBD. Further, acute decreases in 17,20-P and 20-S production were found in the ovarian follicles just prior to ovulation, suggesting inactivation of the maturation-inducing hormone (MIH). These results, taken together with our previous data on the occurrence of GVBD in vitro, suggest a role for both 17,20-P and 20b-S as MIHs in the bambooleaf wrasse.  相似文献

哈纳斯湖位于中、苏、蒙边界之中方一侧阿勒泰山深处的一个高山冷水性湖泊,面积44.7平方公里,水深188.5米,容积为54亿立方米。1985年新疆大学生物系副教授向礼陔考察时观察到湖面上邀游的“大红鱼”体长达15米,体重1000公斤。瞬时间“哈纳斯湖怪”轰动了国内外,作者于1987、1988年专门进行哈纳斯的鱼类调查和对“大红鱼”作了考察,共获鱼类标本300多尾,经鉴定共有鱼类8种,隶属于5科8属,并进行种类记述及生物学测定。同时通过实地观察、捕捞和运用Von.Bertalenff生长方程的理论公式,揭开了“大红鱼”之谜,最大体长为3.72米;体重506公斤。最后提出保护哈纳期湖冷水性鱼类的建议。  相似文献

Full-grown immature Clarias batrachus oocytes respond in vitro to exogenous 17,20-dihydroxy-4-preg-nen-3-one ( 17,20-DP) by undergoing germinal vesicle breakdown (GVBD). Cytosolic extract (CE) prepared from 17,20-DP-induced oocytes has been shown to produce similar effect when microinjected into unstimulated immature oocytes of the same fish. A dose of 50 nl is enough to cause 100% GVBD after 4 h. Maturation-promoting factor was investigated from 17,20-DP-induced, immature and cycloheximide treated oocytes incubated in presence of [35S] methionine. When the proteins were extracted and analyzed on SDS-PAGE, two prominent bands corresponding to molecular weight 34- and 46-kDa were detected in the CE of mature oocytes. However, labelling of [35S] methionine was observed mainly in the region of 46 kDa protein band indicating de novo synthesis of this particular protein during l7,20-DP-induction. Further, immunoblotting study by using rabbit anti-cyclin B1 antibody has clearly demonstrated that the protein which is newly synthesized is highly homologous to Xenopus cyclin B1 and goldfish cyclin B.  相似文献

This study aimed to compare the efficacy of dietary α-tocopherol with that of dl-α-tocopheryl acetate, both either alone or in combination with vitamin C (ascorbic acid), on the growth performance, survival, and stress resistance of angelfish, Pterophylum scalare, juveniles. Juveniles were fed ad libitum for four weeks with Artemia enriched with no vitamins (control), vitamin C (Tc), α-tocopherol (Tα), dl-α-tocopheryl acetate (T dl ), α-tocopherol and vitamin C (Tα+C), and dl-α-tocopheryl acetate and vitamin C (T dl+C). After four weeks, an osmotic stress test was performed using seawater (25 g/L) to evaluate juvenile’s resistance to stress. Whole-body glucose and cortisol were used as stress indicators. At the end of the feeding trial, growth performance and survival of the juveniles fed vitamin-enriched Artemia were significantly (< 0.05) higher than for the control fish. Best performance was recorded for the Tα+C group. Survival, however, was not significantly (P > 0.05) different between the vitamin-fed groups. Osmotic stress significantly elevated the stress indicators, whole-body cortisol and glucose levels (P < 0.05), highest and lowest values being observed in control and Tα+C groups, respectively. Survival after osmotic stress of juveniles fed the Tα+c diet was significantly higher (by 46.2%, P < 0.001) than for controls. Results suggested that α-tocopherol has greater efficacy than dl-α-tocopheryl acetate and enriching Artemia with α-tocopherol and vitamin C together improves growth performance, survival, and stress resistance of angelfish juveniles.  相似文献

A set of feeding trials was carried out for different microalgal species and processed diets for the culture of the New Zealand pipi, Paphies australis. Five microalgal species (Isochrysis galbana clone T-ISO, Pavlova lutheri, Tetraselmis suecica, Chaetoceros muelleri, and Thalassiora pseudonana clone 3H) and three formulated diets (baker's yeast, wheat flour, and corn flour) were fed to spat, juvenile, and adult pipi for 21 days. Unfed pipi were used in the control group. The spat and juvenile pipi showed a major shell increase with I. galbana while the greatest wet weight increase was obtained with P. lutheri. The shells of adult pipi grew better with corn flour, and the P. lutheri-fed group obtained the greatest wet weight. Results of proximate analysis in adult pipi revealed that proteins and lipids were accumulated in the tissue for all fed groups, while carbohydrate levels were depleted in all treatments including the control group. The recent decreasing worldwide supplies of marine oils have forced the aquaculture industry to investigate alternative lipid sources for use in marine fish feeds. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of dietary replacement of fish oil by vegetable oils on gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) growth performance, nutritive utilization, body composition, and fatty acid profile as well as feed cost. Two dietary vegetable oil (VO) mix blends (VO1 and VO2) in which: sunflower (SO), cottonseed (CO) and linseed (LO) for VO1 or soybean oil (SBO) for VO2, were tested as 60% fish oil (FO) substitutes versus the 100% FO control or reference diet (FO). Three iso-proteic (46% CP) and iso-lipidic (18%) experimental diets were hand fed, twice a day, 6 days a week to apparent visual satiety to triplicate groups of seabream growers (average initial weight, 130.9 ± 3.44 g), until fish reached market size (300–400 g/fish) after 20 weeks at mean ambient temperature 27.0 ± 1.8°C. All experimental diets were well accepted by seabream growers regardless of the different lipid sources used, as overall mean feed intake (FI) and daily intake (DFI) were not significantly different (P > 0.05) among dietary treatments. In terms of growth performance, fish fed VO1 diet (with LO) exhibited a relatively lower, but significant (P < 0.05), total weight gain (WG) than fish fed all FO diet (FO). However, mean value of WG of fish fed either vegetable oil-tested diet was nonsignificantly different. Feeding seabream growers vegetable oil (VO) diets (VO1 or VO2) had no significant effect on specific growth rate (SGR), daily weight index (DWI), or feed conversion ratio (FCR) among dietary treatments. Consumption of VO for 20 weeks did not significantly alter the major nutrient composition of fish, but the muscle fatty acid (FA) profile was significantly altered compared to the reference FO diet. Comparatively reduced levels of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acids (DHA), as well as elevated levels of linoleic and linolenic acids (LA and LNA) compared with fish fed the FO were noticed. In terms of economics, 17 or 20% reduction in Kg feed cost was obtained for diets VO1 or VO2, respectively. In terms of growth performance and cost, VO2 diet showed slight relative superiority over VO1 diet. However, in terms of liver structure morphology, VO1 diet (with LO) has resulted in less fat-infiltration and altered hepatic cells than VO2 (with SBO). As these traits do not affect yield or the price paid for the fish, VO2 diet has therefore been considered better than VO1 as complementary lipid sources for gilthead seabream grower diets.  相似文献
