Laboratory studies were conducted to assess several life-history characteristics of three Trichogramma species—T. cacoeciae, T. evanescens, and T. principium—reared on potato tuber moth eggs. The effects of host age, parasitoid age, and different temperatures on the mean number of parasitized eggs and the percentage of emerged progeny were determined. The age of both Trichogramma and host eggs significantly affected the number of eggs parasitized by the wasps, but did not affect the percentage of parasitoids emerging from parasitized eggs. No intraspecific differences for potato tuber moth eggs were found among the tested Trichogramma species. However, T. principium proved to be more effective than T. cacoeciae and T. evanescens in parasitizing host eggs at high temperatures (>33 °C). Trichogramma significantly decreased the number of potato tuber moth F1 emerged progeny when they were released with moths in small cages either over potatoes or potato seedlings. 相似文献

We conducted field and pot experiments to investigate the effects of brassinolide on 1-year-old Robinia pseudoacacia L. seedlings. In the field experiment, seedling roots were soaked in brassinolide solutions containing 0–0.4 mg/l pure brassinolide
before planting. Survival and growth of the seedlings were determined 8 months later. The results showed that soaking roots
in brassinolide prior to planting significantly increased the survival and growth of seedlings. The best results were in the
0.2 mg/l brassinolide treatment. In the pot experiment, roots were soaked in 0–0.4 mg/l brassinolide before planting followed
by a foliar application of brassinolide when the seedlings leafed out. After the seedlings were established, the soil water
content in the pots was regulated to simulate drought conditions and various physiological parameters were measured. The results
showed that treatment with 0.2 mg/l brassinolide decreased the transpiration rate, stomatal conductance and malondialdehyde
(MDA) content of seedlings growing under moderate or severe water stress compared to untreated seedlings. Leaf water content,
predawn water potential, soluble sugar content, free proline content, and superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and
catalase (CAT) activities were all greater in water-stressed seedlings in the 0.2 mg/l brassinolide treatment compared to
the control. The results indicate that the application of brassinolide can ameliorate the effects of water stress and enhance
drought resistance of Robinia seedlings. Treatment of seedlings with brassinolide may be a useful management tool for afforestation projects in arid and
semiarid areas.

Studies on control of potato tuber moth larvae,Phthorimaea operculella (Zell.) (Lep., Gelechiidae) by natural and chemical insecticides in the Republic of Yemen
The potato tuber moth,Phthorimaea operculella, (Zell.), is recognized as the most serious and destructive pest of the potato in the Republic of Yemen. Its larva mines the aerial parts of the potato plant, the subterranean and the stored tuber. Laboratory studies were done at 26±1°C, under natural humidity (45±5%) and with 12h of light and 12h of darkness. Sumithion (Fenitrothion, 40 EC) at the rate of 10 ml/10 l, as a standard insecticide and aqueous extracts of the outer pulp ofMelia azedarach L. andAllium sativum L. at the rate of 100g/10l were used for the control of potato tuber moth larvae. Separate batches of 30 third-instar larvae were treated. The control batches were treated with plain water. Mortality was assessed after 24 h and later at daily interval until the emergence of the moth. The applied chemical and natural insecticides were considerably effective. The mortality amounted to: Sumithion =100%,M. azedarach =91.7% andA. sativum =85%.In regard of controlling the potato tuber moth the results show the possibility of killing the pest by help of natural insecticides instead of environment-damaging chemical insecticides in the Republic of Yemen.

Potato tuberworm (PTW), Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), is one of the most important pests of potatoes in tropic and subtropic regions. Previous
studies suggested that tuber periderm may limit larval penetration and establishment of PTW. Short term influence of parental
host plant acclimatization, influence of tuber dormancy and influence of tuber periderm (the outer cork layer of tubers) on
aspects of PTW biology were investigated on tubers of a susceptible commercial potato cultivar, cv. Allegany (Solanum tuberosum L.), and a resistant hybrid potato clone, Q174-2 (S. tuberosum × S. berthaultii Hawkes). Short-term parental host plant acclimatization did not affect numbers of PTW larvae on resistant and susceptible
tubers. Numbers of larvae produced on tubers of Q174-2, and Allegany, were similar although larval weight was less on Q174-2
than on Allegany. Larval production increased with tuber age on both susceptible and resistant potato clones, suggesting that
bud sprouts may enhance fitness by providing food and shelter for first instars prior to tuber entry. Removal of tuber periderm
led to a significant increase in larval survival on Allegany and Q174-2, although proportional survival on Allegany and Q174-2
was similar to that on intact tubers, suggesting the involvement of internal rather than external periderm factors in tuber
resistance of Q174-2. Weights of larvae reared on Q174-2 were consistently less than those of larvae reared on susceptible
potato tubers in both intact and peeled tuber assays. Although the expression of periderm-mediated tuber resistance declines
with tuber age, such resistance could significantly reduce preharvest field infestations by PTW and constitute an important
component of sustainable PTW management, particularly for fresh market crops and for those potato crops stored for several
months or less in the absence of refrigeration. 相似文献

The sensitivity of the Mediterranean flour moth, Ephestia kuehniella, eggs in different stages of development to gamma irradiation was studied and the acceptability of irradiated eggs by Trichogramma cacoeciae females was examined. Eggs ranging in age from 1–24 to 49–72 h were exposed, at 24 h intervals, to gamma radiation dosages
ranging from 25 to 400 Gy and effects of gamma radiation on egg hatch and adult emergence was investigated. In addition, the
developmental rate of immature stages (larvae and pupae), resulting from irradiated eggs, to the adult stage was examined
and the acceptance of irradiated eggs to T. cacoeciae females was evaluated. Results showed that the radio-sensitivity of E. kuehniella eggs decreased with increasing age. Egg hatch in 1–24-h-old eggs was significantly affected at 25 Gy dose and at 75 Gy dose,
no egg hatch was observed. When irradiating 25–48-h-old eggs, however, egg hatch was less than 5% at 100 Gy dose, and eggs
49–72-h-old were more resistant; 50 Gy had no significant effect on egg hatch and 300 Gy did not completely prevent it. Irradiation
also negatively affected survival to the adult stage. When 25–48-h-old eggs were irradiated, survival to the adult stage was
completely prevented at 75 Gy dose and no survival was observed beyond 100 Gy dose in 49–72-h-old eggs. In addition, the rate
of development of immature stages resulting from irradiated eggs was negatively affected. While more than 97% of control moths
emerged within 30 days, this ratio decreased to 53 and 69% in 1–24 and 25–48-h-old eggs exposed to 25 Gy dose. Furthermore,
irradiation positively affected the degree of acceptance of eggs to parasitization; irradiated eggs (≤49-h-old) were more
acceptable to T. cacoeciae than cold-treated ones. 相似文献

Agrothereutes hospes (Tschek.) (Ichneumonidae, Cryptinae), a solitary ectoparasitoid, is redescribed. Details of tyloids on male flagellum are
presented and discussed. Investigations on the development of the parasitoid on wax moth host Galleria mellonella (L.) (Lepidoptera) were made. Longevity of A. hospes females is between 10 days and 40 days, while in males it is 7–20 days. The egg productivity and the hatching of eggs were
in maximum between 6 days and 15 days. The maximal pupae ratio was between 1 days and 15 days, and average of sex ratio was
2:1. 相似文献

The greenhouse trials were conducted to determine the efficacy of environmentally safe insecticides/fungicides with physical
mode of action [Agri-50E (propylene glycol alginate, hydrated) and SB Plant Invigorator] against Trialeurodes
vaporariorum (Westwood). The efficacy of Agri-50E on adults and nymphs (first, second, third, and fourth instars) was compared to the commercially
available standard Boxer 200 SL (imidacloprid) and an untreated control on greenhouse-grown poinsettia. Insecticides were
applied by foliar spraying, Agri-50E (2 or 3 ml/l) two times and Boxer 200 SL (1 ml/l) once. Three and 7 days after first
application (DAFA), imidacloprid was more effective than both concentrations of Agri-50E in controlling T. vaporariorum adults, whereas 10 DAFA there were no differences between insecticides. Twelve DAFA, imidacloprid was more effective than
Agri-50E in controlling first, second and third instars and after 19 days in controlling second, third, and fourth instars.
The results obtained from the poinsettia study, indicated that Agri-50E (2 or 3 ml/l) is successful in controlling T. vaporariorum adults and moderately effective against T. vaporariorum immature stages. In the second experiment, the efficacy of Agri-50E on adults was compared to SB Plant Invigorator (SBPI),
the standard treatment Calypso 480 SC (thiacloprid), and an untreated control on greenhouse-grown tomato. Agri-50E (3 ml/l)
and SBPI (2 ml/l) were applied four times while Calypso 480 SC (0.4 ml/l) was applied twice. The results obtained from tomato
study showed that SBPI was the most effective insecticide against T. vaporariorum adults, followed by Agri-50E and Calypso 480 EC. Beside the ecological benefits, the alternative insecticides Agri-50E and
SBPI might have an important role to play in future pest management programs. 相似文献

Laboratory experiments investigated the effect of host instar, light and food on the number of mature eggs in ovaries (egg
load) of the synovigenic parasitoid Venturia canescens (Grav.) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae). The wasps that developed from third or fifth instar larvae of Ephestia kuehniella Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) were exposed to food (honey) or had no food, had access to water or not, and were reared
at the photoperiod 16:8 h light:dark or in continuous darkness at 25 ± 1°C, and 60–70% relative humidity. After death, the
parasitoids were dissected to remove the reproductive systems, and mature eggs in ovaries were counted. A three-way ANOVA
for egg number with host instar, food and light as factors revealed that egg load varied significantly. In addition, some
interactions among the three factors were also found to be significant. The maximum average number (215.80 ± 8.51) of mature
eggs was found when the parasitoids developed from third instar larvae, were exposed to continuous darkness and fed with honey.
In conclusion, host instar, food supplement and photoperiod could have potential for improving biological control efficacy
in stores. However, further studies determining the effect of these factors on egg laying behavior and fecundity should be
done. 相似文献

A trial of artificial incubation to great bustard (Otis tarda) egg was conducted from 1995 to 1997. Among the 45 collected eggs, 28 eggs were fertilized and 26 hatched, with fertilizing
rate 62.2% and incubation rate 92.85%. The mean incubation-days for great bustard egg was confirmed as 24.4 (21–28 days) with
the formula for caculating fresh egg weight (W=KwLB
2) and that for counting the incubated days by parents birds in field (Id=24(w−y)/0.144y). The proper incubation temperature
and relative humidity were 36–37.8°C and 50–65%, respectively. The egg weights and egg size average 130.45 g and 77.4±1.42×55.5±0.65
mm respectively. The total weight loss of egg was 18.38±0.646 g, daily weight loss 0.748±0.071 g in the incubation time, with
a weight loss rate of 13.6±1.02%. A linear regression equation to discribe the relationship between the egg weight and incubation
days, was built,y=130.73−0.619x (x-incubation day,y-egg weight) r=−0.978. Twenty-eight hours were nassassary for great bustard embryo to complete the fledging when the were
put in gas room. The mean weight of fledglings was 86.3±3.29 g(n=26).

Non-choice laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of host acceptance, previous rearing host, host age and the contact time between parasitoids and host on the efficacy of Trichogramma cacoeciae Marchal and T. principum Sug. et Sor. against the codling moth Cydia pomonella. The tendency of T. cacoeciae and T. principum females to attack the codling moth was similar to E. kuehniella, and it was not affected by the previous rearing host. T. cacoeciae showed a greater preference for codling moth eggs than T. principum. A high mean number of emerged F1 progeny was observed when both parasitoids were sequentially reared on codling moths. Codling moth acceptance, the number of parasitized eggs and the number of emerged progeny were higher when younger codling moth eggs were offered. The tendency of female parasitoids to oviposit remained unchanged when the contact time with the host was prolonged. When the contact time was increased, the number of parasitized eggs and emerged offspring was higher. The results showed that the codling moth fertility (egg hatch) was reduced when younger eggs were offered and when the contact time with the parasitoids was increased. T. cacoeciae was more efficient in reducing codling moth fertility. The current study provided essential information necessary to increase the efficiency of T. cacoeciae and T. principum against the codling moth. 相似文献

The olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae (Gmelin.) (Diptera:Tephritidae) is a pest on olives (Olea europea) in the Mediterranean basin. An olive fruit fly colony was maintained on olives at 24 ± 1°C, 60% RH, and 16:8 h (light:dark)
photoperiod with fluorescent lighting. We investigated oviposition behavior, developmental duration and weights of the biological
stages, and adult longevity. A single female laid an average of 19 eggs/day and 200–350 eggs in her lifetime. The maximum
number of oviposition stings in a single olive was 156.0 ± 5.77, and 28.00 ± 3.62 larvae out of it completed their development,
all pupated, and all emergence successfully. Although the development period was similar for larvae and pupae, adult longevity
varied. Male and female emergence percentages ranged as 38.7–52.8, and 32–39.9%, respectively. The results are presented in
relation to published studies on olive fruit fly rearing. 相似文献

The aim of this study is to evaluate the recruitment possibilities of holly (Ilex aquifolium L.) populations under Pinus sylvestris plantations in the mountains of Central Spain. Population recruitment of holly under P. sylvestris L. plantations was studied at two localities. We sampled holly seed rain, seed bank, and seedling emergence and survival (of both emerged and planted seedlings) in both localities. Seed germination was analysed by randomly sowing Ilex seeds and their subsequent recollection and analysis over the following 3 years (only in one locality). Seed rain, seed bank and emerged seedling densities did not differ between localities. Seed bank density was between 10 and 20 seeds m−2, considerably higher than the observed seed rain (0.4–1.2 seeds m−2), and also higher than the emerged seedling density (0–4 seedlings m−2). But Ilex is not very efficient in germinating under pine forests (29.1% germination after 3 years). This may indicate a seed accumulation process of at least 5 years. Seedling survival for the first year differed among the studied sites (50–60 vs. 17%). Nevertheless these survival rates are higher than those found for the same seedling populations in different forest habitats (not Scots pine forests) from near locations. Differences in summer water stress between the study sites are proposed as the main cause of the observed differences in seedling survival. It is concluded that P. sylvestris forests may provide one of the best regeneration habitats for holly in the Mediterranean area, where this species is close to the Southern limit of its distribution. 相似文献

A novel emulsified wax dispenser (SPLAT-OFM) of pheromone was evaluated in concert with a custom-built, tractor-mounted applicator,
designed for fast application of dispensers for mating disruption of Oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta (Busck), in apple. The formulation consisted of microcrystalline wax emulsified in water. It was loaded with G. molesta pheromone (93:6:1 blend of (Z)-8-dodecen-1-yl-acetate:(E)-8-dodecen-1-yl-acetate:(Z)-8-dodecen-1-ol) at 10% by weight. The hydraulically driven applicator dispensed the wax formulation as discrete particles
from a rotating double-orifice distributor positioned directly above the tree canopy. Wax-drop size averaged (±SEM) 0.38 ± 0.16 g
and 4.3 ± 0.5 drops adhered per tree. Following a single mechanized application of SPLAT-OFM on 24 April at 8 ml per tree
(1.6 kg/ha) to 0.8 ha blocks of apple, male G. molesta orientation to optimally attractive pheromone traps was disrupted by 98% relative to untreated control plots for the whole
season. Furthermore, on 17 weekly deployments of tethered virgin females (1,016 females deployed and 732 recovered for dissection)
throughout the season, no mating was detected in SPLAT-OFM-treated blocks, while mating in control blocks averaged 27%. During
the first 17 days following deployment in sticky traps, SPLAT-OFM drops attracted ca. 1/46th of the number of male G. molesta attracted to optimized synthetic lures. However, following 17 days of field aging, SPLAT-OFM drops became equally attractive
to optimized synthetic lures for the remainder of the season. The release rate of pheromone from wax drops 0–14 and 15–76 days
following deployment averaged 21.4 and 5.3 μg/h, respectively. The trapping and release rate data were consistent with competitive
attraction as the mechanism mediating disruption. Shoot injury following the first moth generation was sevenfold less in SPLAT-OFM
treated blocks compared with controls and fruit injury at the end of the season in treated blocks was approximately half of
that recorded in controls. 相似文献

The biological activity of essential oil extracted from coriander, Coriandrum sativum L. (Apiaceae) against eggs, larvae and adults of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) was investigated in a series of laboratory experiments. Bioassays conducted in air-tight glass chambers showed vapour
toxicity and strong repellency on filter paper arena test towards all the stages used. Responses varied significantly (P < 0.001) within insect stages, dosages and exposures. At 12.0 μg/ml dosage, mortality of adults reached 95%, but for 12-,
14- and 16-days larvae, mortalities were 65, 74 and 82%, respectively. On the developmental inhibition, individuals fumigated
at the larval stage confirmed that the percentage of larvae reaching to pupal stage and pupae to adult stage, decreased significantly
(P < 0.001) with increasing dosage concentration. The oil fumigation yielded 100% mortality for T. castaneum larvae, pupae and adults at 0.08 μg/ml dosage. The oil had fumigant activity against eggs and the toxicity progressively
increased with increased exposure times and concentrations. One hundred per cent T. castaneum egg mortalities were obtained with oil fumigation at 20 μg/ml and 96 h exposure period. C. sativum oil also showed highly repellent activity to the adults of T. castaneum, with overall repellency was 90% and at a dosage of 12 μg/ml repellency was 100% in a filter-paper arena test. 相似文献

The biology of barley shoot fly Delia flavibasis was studied using resistant (Dinsho and Harbu) and susceptible (Holker) barley cultivars at Sinana Agricultural Research
Center, Ethiopia. A higher number of eggs was laid on Holker (17 eggs/female) than on Dinsho (11 eggs/female) or Harbu (12
eggs/female). However, there were no differences between cultivars in preoviposition and total reproductive periods. The shortest
time required to complete larval, pupal and total developmental stages from egg to adult emergence occurred when the insect
was reared on the cultivar Holker. Pupal weight, adult emergence and adult longevity did not differ between cultivars. The
female to male sex ratio was 1:1. This study enabled us to understand the duration of each of the life stages of D.
flavibasis, which will undoubtedly aid researchers and growers to design a sustainable management strategy against barley shoot fly. 相似文献

Ephestia kuehniella adults were stored at 10°C for 1–10 weeks. Reproductive ability and number of living adults decreased depending on the length
of the storage period. Long-term exposure to cold lengthened the life of the adults and 50% mortality was reached after 6 weeks.
To obtain complete mortality and sterility 10 weeks of storage was needed. The larvae reared on corn flour diet developed
to the adult stage more rapidly than that of the other treatments. The adults reared on oat flour produced significantly more
eggs than the other diets. There was no difference among diets with regard to emergence rate, longevity or sex ration of E. kuehniella adults. Trichogramma evanescens did not differentiate among hosts from different food sources with respect to parasitization, adult emergence and sex ratio.
The suitability of the eggs from cold-exposed adults with respect to parasitization was found to be the same as the control
during the first 3 weeks. 相似文献

Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of repeated and delayed exposure to fresh codling moth eggs on the parasitism of Trichogramma cacoeciae Marchal and T. principium Sug. et Sor. The percentage survival of T. cacoeciae and T. principium females significantly declined as the number of exposure times increased (or as the females became older). The highest mean number of parasitized eggs and F1 progeny were recorded during the first day of exposure, after which they declined. However, the percentage mortality of parasitized eggs of T. cacoeciae and T. principium was negatively correlated with repeated exposure. When the exposure of T. cacoeciae and T. principium females to host eggs was delayed for 3 days after emergence, the percentage of oviposited females was not affected; however, the mean number of parasitized eggs, F1 individuals and the percentage mortality declined significantly. The current study provided essential information necessary to determine the optimal timing of parasitoid releases to increase the efficiency of T. cacoeciae and T. principium against codling moth. 相似文献

The present work was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Trichogramma evanescens (Westwood) in controlling the European grape berry moth Lobesia botrana (Den. & Schiff.) in two vineyards, in El-Beheira and El-Gharbia Governorates, northern Egypt during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
T. evanescens was mass produced on Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) eggs in National Research Center in Egypt. The horizontal and vertical searching activity of T. evanescens was studied to determine the proper way of distributing the Trichogramma cards in vineyards in 2004. Field experiments were also conducted to evaluate inundative releases of T. evanescens to control L. botrana on large scale in 2005. Parasitism by T. evanescens on L. botrana eggs was greatly affected with the horizontal or vertical distance from the release points. Parasitism reached over 97% and
reduction percents of infestation were caused by the pest reached 96.8% in treated plots. A significant increase in the crop
was achieved in treated plots. The results showed that the release cards should be distributed in every three grape rows and
on height 130–170 cm to obtain good parasitism rates. T. evanescens could be a potential candidate for biological control of L. botrana in vineyards. 相似文献

The olive psyllid, Euphyllura phillyreae Foerster is one of the most destructive pests on buds and flowers of olive tree (Olea europaea L.) in May when the olive growers cannot apply any insecticides against the pest. Temperature-dependent development of the
psyllid was studied at constant temperatures ranged 16–26°C. A degree-day (DD) model was developed to predict the larval emergence
using the weekly cumulative larval counts and daily mean temperatures. Linear regression analysis estimated a lower developmental
threshold of 4.1 and 4.3°C and a thermal constant of 164.17 and 466.13 DD for development of egg and larva, respectively.
The cumulative larval counts of E. phillyreae approximated by probit transformation were plotted against time, expressed as the sum of DD above 4.3°C, the starting date
when the olive tree phenology was the period of flower cluster initiation. A linear model was used to describe the relationship
of DDs and probit values of larval emergence patterns of E. phillyreae and predicted that 10, 50 and 95% emergence of the larvae required 235.81, 360.22 and 519.93 DD, respectively, with errors
of 1–3 days compared to observed values. Based on biofix depends the development of olive tree phenology; the DD model can
be used as a forecasting method for proper timing of insecticide applications against E. phillyreae larvae in olive groves. 相似文献

Distribution of ectomycorrhizas and ectomycorrhizal fungal inoculum with soil depth in a birch forest 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The distributions of ectomycorrhizas and ectomycorrhizal fungal inoculum with soil depth (0–45 cm) were determined in a 40-year-oldBetula platyphylla var.japonica forest. Mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal fine roots were measured in each soil core sample that was collected at soil depths
of 0–5, 5–10, 10–15, 15–20, 20–25, 30–35, and 40–45 cm. The ectomycorrhizas were mainly distributed (>50%) in the top soil
(0–5 cm) of organic forest floor horizons. Below 5 cm the quantity of ectomycorrhizas decreased sharply. The percentage of
fine roots which were ectomycorrhizal gradually declined with the depth of soil. The ectomycorrhizal fungal inoculum was evaluated
by a bioassay method, measuring the lengths of the entire root system and of the ectomycorrhizal roots of birch seedlings
planted in each soil sample. The soil samples were collected from 0–5, 10–15, 20–25, 30–35, and 40–45 cm depths of the soil
profile. Ectomycorrhizal formation on birch seedling roots in the bioassay was high in both the soil depth intervals 0–5 cm
and 10–15 cm, while the amount was lower in the soil depth interval from 20–45 cm. The results of these investigations show
that the amount of the ectomycorrhizas in soil, and the ectomycorrhizal fungal inoculum potential as determined by bioassay,
are not always consistent with each other. 相似文献
