ABSTRACT

Effect of cadmium (Cd) on biomass accumulation and physiological activity and alleviation of Cd-toxicity by application of zinc (Zn) and ascorbic acid in barley was studied, using semisolid medium culture including 15 treatments [four Cd concentration treatments: 0.1, 1, 5, 50?µmol?L?1, four treatments with addition of 300?µmol?L?1 Zn or 250?mg?L?1 ascorbic acid (ASA) based on these four Cd concentrations, respectively, and three controls: basic nutrient medium, and with Zn or ASA, respectively]. Cadmium addition to semisolid medium, at a concentration of 1, 5, and 50?µmol?L?1, inhibited biomass accumulation and increased malondialdehyde (MDA) content of barley plants, while the addition of 0.1?µmol?L?1 Cd increased slightly dry mass. There was a tendency to a decrease in Zn, copper (Cu) concentrations both in shoots and roots and iron (Fe) in shoots of barley plants exposed to 1 to 50?µmol?L?1 Cd. In addition, there were indications of a stress repose characterized by increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activities relative to plants not subjected to Cd. The physiological changes caused by Cd toxicity could be alleviated to different extent by application of 300?µmol?L?1 Zn or 250?mg?L?1 ASA in Cd stressed plants. The most pronounced effects of adding Zn or ASA in Cd stressed medium were expressed in the decreased MDA and increased biomass accumulation, e.g., MDA contents were reduced (p≤0.01) by 4.8%–17.8% in shoots and 0.5%–19.7% in roots by adding 300?µmol?L?1 Zn, in 50?µmol?L?1 Cd stressed plants, and by 1.3%–7.4% in shoots and 2.6%–4.5% in roots by application of 250?µmol?L?1 ASA, respectively. However, ASA addition may enhance Cd translation from root to shoot, accordingly, ASA would be unsuitable for the edible crops grown in Cd contaminated soils to alleviate phytotoxicity of Cd.  相似文献

The increasing number of cases of soil contamination by heavy metals has affected crop yields, and represents an imminent risk to food. Some of these contaminants, such as cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb), are very similar to micronutrients, and thus can be absorbed by plants. This study evaluated the translocation of increasing amounts of cadmium and lead and the effects of these metals in the production of beans. Bean plants were grown in nutrient solution Clark and subjected to increasing levels of Cd (from 0 to 0.5 mg L?1) and Pb (from 0 to 10 mg L?1). Cadmium concentration of 0.1 mg L?1 translocated 39.8% to the shoot, and dry matter production was reduced by 45% in shoots and 80% in roots, compared to the control treatment. Lead showed impaired movement in the plant, however the concentration of 1.0 mg L?1 was observed in 5.7% of metal translocation to the leaves. The concentration of 10 mg L?1 Pb reduced dry matter production of roots and shoots in 83% and 76%, respectively, compared to the control treatment.  相似文献

An experiment was established to assess the ability of selenium (Se) to reduce cadmium (Cd) toxicity when tomato was grown hydroponically. A factorial experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with six replicates in cucumber (Cucumis sativus cv. 4200). The Se was applied at four levels [0 mg L–1 (Se0), 2 mg L–1 Se (Se1), 4 mg L–1 Se (Se2), and 6 mg L–1 Se (Se3)], whereas Cd was applied at three levels [0 µM Cd (Cd0), 5 µM Cd (Cd1), and 7 µM Cd (Cd2)]. The Se improved the dry weight of roots even when plants were exposed to Cd. Treatment Se1 improved the dry weight of shoots in Cd1 and Cd2. Treatments Se1 and Se2 improved photosynthesis in Cd1. Treatment Se1 significantly improved stomatal conductance in Cd2 at all levels of Se relative to Cd2. The greatest Cd concentration in leaves was observed in Cd2 × Se0 and while Se concentration in solution increased in response to Se1, Se2, and Se3. The greatest Se level reduced Cd uptake the most. Growth and photosynthetic attributes can be negatively affected by Cd, but Se has the ability to buffer, or improve, several attributes.  相似文献

Abstract

To clarify the mechanism of Magnesium (Mg) in alleviating cadmium (Cd) phytotoxicity, Japanese mustard spinach (Brassica rapa L. var. pervirdis) was grown for 10 days after treatment in hydroponics in a growth chamber under natural light. The treatments were: (1) nutrient solution alone (Control), (2) 10 mmol L?1 Mg (High-Mg), (3) 2.5 µmol L?1 Cd (Cd-toxic), (4) 2.5 µmol L?1 Cd plus 10 mmol L?1 Mg (Mg-alleviated). The Cd-toxic treatment showed substantial growth retardation and chlorosis of young leaves, such symptoms were not observed in Mg-alleviated plants. Magnesium-alleviated plants showed higher shoot growth, more than twofold, and decreased shoot Cd concentration, approximately 40%, compared with Cd-toxic plants. This increase in shoot growth and simultaneous decrease in shoot Cd concentration may explain the alleviation of Cd toxicity with Mg in Japanese mustard spinach. In Cd-toxic plants, concentrations of K in shoots and Zn in both shoots and roots increased compared with the other three treatments. Concentrations and accumulations of Fe and Mn in shoots decreased significantly in the Cd-treated (Cd-toxic and Mg-alleviated) plants compared with the control and High-Mg plants. Thus, the application of high amounts of Mg in the nutrient solution can alleviate Cd toxicity in plants.  相似文献

Plant growth and mineral element accumulation in Brassica juncea var. crispifolia (crisped-leaf mustard) under exposure to lanthanum (La) and cadmium (Cd) were studied by employing a hydroponic experiment with a complete two-factorial design. Four levels of La (0.05–5.0 mg L?1) and two levels of Cd (1.0 and 10.0 mg L?1) were used in this experiment. Lanthanum did not improve plant growth in this experiment. Addition of La (≥ 1.0 mg L?1) or Cd (≥ 10 mg L?1) to the solution inhibited root elongation. Lanthanum treatments reduced accumulations of iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn) in roots, and Mn in shoots. Lanthanum at ≥ 1.0 mg L?1 limited the Cd translocation from roots to shoots and thus decreased the accumulation of Cd in shoots. Cadmium had no influence on La accumulations in roots, but inhibited the accumulation of La in shoots. The study results suggest that applications of rare earth elements in vegetables would be potentially risky to human health.  相似文献

Since studies on the effects of selenium (Se) supplementation in water-stressed plants have mainly focused on cereal crops, the specific reports regarding Se-mediated adaptation to drought stress in medicinal vegetables are scant. Thus, we investigated the responses of Melissa officinalis to Se supplementation. Selenium contents were increased in leaves and grains by supplemental Se. Selenium foliar application at 1 mg l?1 could be useful to increase the vegetative and reproductive growth of Se-enriched plants under well-watered conditions but at 20 mg l?1 led to toxicity and caused damage to shoots. Drought stress significantly inhibited plant growth by chlorophyll degradation and reduced net carbon dioxide (CO2) assimilation rate. Although Se at 1 mg l?1 could increase biomass production under well-watered conditions in addition to the stimulation of antioxidant system under water stress, it could not ameliorate the negative effect of drought on productivity.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Effects of application of zinc (Zn) (0, 1, 5, 10 mg kg?1 soil) and phosphorus (P) (0, 10, 50, 100 mg kg?1 soil) on growth and cadmium (Cd) accumulations in shoots and roots of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seedlings were investigated in a pot experiment. All soils were supplied with a constant concentration of Cd (6 mg kg?1 soil). Phosphorus application resulted in a pronounced increase in shoot and root biomass. Effects of Zn on plant growth were not as marked as those of P. High Zn (10 mg kg?1) decreased the biomass of both shoots and roots; this result may be ascribed to Zn toxicity. Phosphorus and Zn showed complicated interactions in uptake by plants within the ranges of P and Zn levels used. Cadmium in shoots decreased significantly with increasing Zn (P < 0.001) except at P addition of 10 mg kg?1. In contrast, root Cd concentrations increased significantly except at Zn addition of 5 mg kg?1 (P < 0.001). These results indicated that Zn might inhibit Cd translocation from roots to shoots. Cadmium concentrations increased in shoots (P < 0.001) but decreased in roots (P < 0.001) with increasing P supply. The interactions between Zn and P had a significant effect on Cd accumulation in both shoots (p = 0.002) and roots (P < 0.001).  相似文献

Replacing new corn genotypes in agricultural practices requires adequate information on the reaction of the selected hybrids to Cd uptake in Cd-polluted soil and an understanding of interactions with N fertilizers. A 2 × 2 × 3 factorial pot experiment with limed soil (pH 8), two maize (Zea mays) hybrids (Pioneer cultivar yellow and Pioneer cultivar white), two N fertilization forms (NH4 + and NO3 ?) and three Cd exposures (0, 2 and 5 mg kg?1 soil) was conducted under greenhouse conditions. Shoot dry mass increased significantly with NH4 + nutrition compared with NO3 ? nutrition in both maize hybrids, with greater negative influence of Cd application combined with NH4 + nutrition. The yellow cultivar had significantly greater shoot dry mass and lower Cd uptake than the white cultivar. Both hybrids exhibited similar N uptake in shoots and roots, with the exception of yellow cultivar with NH4 + nutrition without Cd application. NO3 ? nutrition always decreased Cd uptake in both cultivars compared with NH4 + nutrition. The N balance (mean across cultivars and Cd supply) after harvest showed most N uptake with NH4 + nutrition (63.4%) and Nmin remains in the soil with NO3 ? nutrition (48.7%). Soil pH decreased more with NH4 + (?0.95 pH units) than NO3 ? nutrition (?0.21).  相似文献

Abstract

A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of three soluble zinc (Zn) fertilizers on cadmium (Cd) concentrations in two genotypes of maize (Zea mays): Jidan 209 and Changdan 374. Zinc fertilizers were added to soil at four levels: 0, 80, 160, and 240 mg kg?1 soil as nitrate [Zn(NO3)2], chloride (ZnCl2), and sulfate (ZnSO4). Cadmium nitrate [Cd(NO3)2] was added to all the treatments at a uniform rate equivalent to 10 mg kg?1 soil. The biomass of maize plants was increased with the application of three zinc fertilizers, of which Zn(NO3)2 yielded more than others. Under ZnCl2 treatment, plant growth was promoted at the lower level and depressed at the higher one. All the three fertilizers decreased Cd concentration in shoots in comparison with treatments without Zn, but there were variations with different forms, especially in plants treated with Zn(NO3)2, which had the minimal value. The orders of average Cd concentration in shoots with different zinc fertilizers were ZnSO4>ZnCl2>Zn(NO3)2 for Jidan 209 and ZnCl2>ZnSO4>Zn(NO3)2 for Changdan 374, respectively (P<0.001). There was no significant difference between ZnSO4 and ZnCl2 treatments. The lowest Cd concentration in shoots was found in the 80‐mg‐kg?1 soil or 160‐mg‐kg?1 soil treatment. Cadmium concentration in roots in the presence of ZnCl2 was the lowest and under ZnSO4 the highest. The mechanism involved needs to be studied to elucidate the characteristics of complexation of Cl? and SO4 2? with Cd in plants and their influence on transfer from roots to shoots.  相似文献

The capacity of microalgae to accumulate heavy metals has been widely investigated for its potential applications in wastewater (bio)treatment. In this study, the ability of Desmodesmus pleiomorphus (strain L), a wild strain isolated from a polluted environment, to remove Cd from aqueous solutions was studied, by exposing its biomass to several Cd concentrations. Removal from solution reached a maximum of 61.2 mg Cd g?1 biomass by 1 day, at the highest initial supernatant concentration used (i.e., 5.0 mg Cd L?1), with most metal being adsorbed onto the cell surface. Metal removal by D. pleiomorphus (strain ACOI 561), a commercially available ecotype, was also assessed for comparative purposes; a removal of 76.4 mg Cd g?1 biomass was attained by 1 day for the same initial metal concentration. Assays for metal removal using thermally inactivated cells were also performed; the maximum removal extent observed was 47.1 mg Cd g?1 biomass, at the initial concentration of 5 mg Cd L?1. In experiments conducted at various pH values, the highest removal was achieved at pH 4.0. Both microalga strains proved their feasibility as biotechnological tools to remove Cd from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Molybdenum (Mo) and selenium (Se) are both essential micronutrients for animals and humans. Increasing Mo and Se contents in food crops offers an effective approach to reduce Mo and Se deficiency problems. A hydroponic trial was conducted to investigate the interactions of Mo and Se on uptake, transfer factors (TF shoot ) as well as distribution coefficients (DC) of Mo and Se on Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. Pekinensis). In Experiment 1 three concentrations of Mo (0.01, 0.1 and 1?mg?L?1) and four concentrations of Se (0, 0.01, 0.1 and 1?mg?L?1) were arranged with a randomized block design. In Experiment 2, there were three treatments, 0.1?mg?L?1 Mo, 0.1?mg?L?1 Se and a combination of 0.1?mg?L?1 Mo?+?0.1?mg?L?1 Se. Experiment 1 showed that Se decreased Mo concentrations in shoots and roots. The impact of Mo on Chinese cabbage response to uptake of Se varied, depending on whether the root Se concentration was saturated or not; Experiment 2 showed that there is a strong antagonism between Mo and Se on nutrition uptake when Mo and Se deficiencies persist for long periods; Mo and Se were easily translocated from solution to plants and from roots to shoots. The results will also be of help in cultivating Mo-enriched and Se-enriched crops.  相似文献

Cadmium (Cd) as a non‐essential toxic metal has become one of the seriously environmental problems. Overload of Cd into plant shoots, particularly the addible parts (i.e., grains), jeopardizes crop production and food safety. Isolating and identifying genotypic variations in Cd accumulation of rapeseed (Brassica napus) cultivars is an efficient approach for phytoremediation and developing lower Cd‐accumulating plants. In this study, a trial was conducted under natural condition in Nanjing, China, from 2014 to 2017, and identified 64 rapeseed cultivars collected from the areas of Gui Zhou province. Rapeseed grew under moderate Cd exposure (5 mg kg?1) for 5 months, and shoots were harvested for Cd quantification. A great variation of total Cd concentrations in shoots, ranking from 0.16 to 17.03 mg Cd kg?1, was found. Following the initial examination of all cultivars, two sets of plants with high (#138 and #177) and low (#208 and #244) Cd concentrations were further investigated. Throughout the growth period, cultivars #138 and #177 accumulated more Cd during vegetative (30, 60, and 120 d) and late developmental (180 d) stages than cultivars #208 and #244. The higher Cd concentration in shoots of #138 and #177 was associated with the higher Cd concentration in xylem sap, suggesting the greater capability of Cd translocation from roots to shoots. Compared to #208 and #244, Cd exposure moderately reduced zinc and iron concentrations in some tissues of #138 and #177, whereas the manganese and magnesium concentrations showed no change. Although #138 and #177 cultivars accumulated more Cd in their shoots, no Cd toxicity was detected. Moreover, both #138 and #177 cultivars had a similar biomass to #208 or #244. These results suggest that #138 and #177 rapeseeds are tolerant to Cd stress.  相似文献

For better understanding of mechanisms responsible for genotypic differences in uptake and translocation of cadmium (Cd) in different plant species, two maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines (B37 and F2) and a bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar (Saxa) were grown in a complete nutrient solution with additional 0.5 μM Cd and 250 μM buthionine sulfoximine (BSO), an inhibitor of PC synthesis, alone or in combination. The maize line B37 had a much higher Cd content in shoots (116.2 mg Cd kg?1 dry wt.) than F2 (32.7 mg Cd kg?1 dry wt.) and bean (1.83 in leaves, and 2.85 mg Cd kg?1 dry wt. in stems), whereas in roots the Cd content was much higher in bean (602.6 mg Cd kg?1 dry wt.) than in maize (427.1 mg Cd kg?1 dry wt. in B37, and 428.2 mg Cd kg?1 dry wt. in F2). Application of BSO markedly decreased Cd contents in roots of bean and maize lines, and also Cd contents in shoots and stem basis of both maize lines, while Cd contents in leaves, stems and stem basis of bean were not reduced by BSO. In root extracts (Tris-HCl buffer, pH 8.0) the proportion of Cd in the soluble fraction was much lower in bean (29.6%) than in the maize lines B37 (58.6%) and F2 (60.1%). Compared with the whole root tissue, Cd contents in the stele of the roots were much lower, especially in bean, and decreased by BSO in both maize lines, but not in bean. Gel-chromatography of root extracts strongly suggested that in the soluble fraction about 80% of the Cd was present as Cd-phytochelatin (PC) complexes in B37, whereas in F2 this Cd fraction accounted for about 50%, and in bean only for a few percent in the soluble fraction, Our results suggest that Cd-PC complexes constitute a mobile form in plants. The lower proportion of Cd in the soluble fraction as well as lower PC production in roots of bean compared to maize lines may be the main reasons for the very low Cd translocation from roots to shoots in bean plants.  相似文献

Mycorrhizal fungi and earthworms can individually or interactively influence plant growth and heavy metal uptake. The influence of earthworms and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi either alone or in combination on maize (Zea mays L.) growth and cadmium (Cd) uptake was investigated in a calcareous soil artificially spiked with Cd. Soils were contaminated with Cd (10 and 20 mg Cd kg−1), inoculated or un-inoculated with the epigeic earthworm Lumbricus rubellus and two AM fungal species (Rhizophagus irregularis and Funneliformis mosseae) for two months of growth under greenhouse conditions. Generally, earthworms alone increased both shoot P uptake and biomass but decreased shoot Cd concentration and root Cd uptake. AM fungi individually often increased total maize P uptake, declined shoot Cd concentration, and consequently produced higher total biomass. However, R. irregularis enhanced shoot Cd uptake at low Cd level and root Cd uptake at high Cd level. In plants inoculated with F. mosseae species, earthworms increased shoot biomass and Cd uptake, decreased root biomass and Cd uptake at all Cd levels, and increased shoot Cd concentration at low Cd level. In plants colonized by R. irregularis species, however, earthworm addition decreased maize biomass only at high Cd level and root Cd concentration and total maize Cd uptake at both Cd levels. Earthworm activity decreased Cd transfer from the soil to maize roots at low Cd level, but this was counterbalanced in the presence of F. mosseae. Mycorrhizal symbiosis significantly reduced the transfer of Cd from roots to shoots, independence of earthworm effect. Overall, it is concluded that L. rubellus and AM fungi, in particular F. mosseae isolate, improved maize tolerance to Cd toxicity both individually and interactively by increasing plant growth and P nutrition, and restricting Cd transfer to the aboveground biomass. Consequently, the single and interactive effects of the two soil organisms might potentially be important not only in protecting maize plants against Cd toxicity, but also in Cd phytostabilization in soils polluted by this highly toxic metal.  相似文献

Hydroponic and pot experiments were conducted to assess the uptake of heavy metals (Cd and Zn) by a common crop plant, African basil, Ocimum gratissimum. In addition, the effects of soil amendments, hydroxyapatite (HA) and cow manure on plant growth and metal accumulations were compared. In the hydroponic study, plants were exposed to various concentrations of Cd (2.5 and 5 mg L?1) and Zn (10 and 20 mg L?1) for 15 days. O. gratissimum was shown to be a Cd accumulator more than a Zn accumulator. Cadmium concentration in its shoots exceeded 100 mg kg?1. In the pot experiments, soils from a heavily Cd-contaminated site (Cd 67.9 mg kg?1 and Zn 2,886.8 mg kg?1) were treated with cow manure and HA at the rates of 10% and 20% (w/w), and 0.75 and 1.5% (w/w), respectively. Plants were grown in the greenhouse for 3 months. The addition of cow manure resulted in the highest biomass production and the lowest accumulations of Cd in plant parts, while HA was more efficient than cow manure in reducing Zn uptake. Leaves of African basil showed a decreased Cd concentration from 1.5 to 0.3 mg kg?1 (cow manure) and decreased Zn concentration from 69.3 to 34 mg kg?1 (HA). This clearly demonstrates the efficiency of HA and cow manure in reducing metal content in leaves of plants grown on high metal-contaminated soil to acceptable or close to acceptable values (0.2 mg kg?1 for Cd, 99.4 mg kg?1 for Zn).  相似文献

□ Effects of different arsenic (As) concentration (0–30 mg L?1) on seed germination, root tolerance index, relative shoot height, root and shoot biomass, photosynthetic pigments and arsenic accumulation in two wheat varieties were investigated. Low concentrations of arsenic (0–2.5 mg L?1) stimulated germination percentage, shoot and root elongation, plant biomass as well as chlorophyll content as compared with control, however, these factors all decreased gradually at high concentrations of arsenic (5–30 mg L?1). ‘Zarin’ variety had a significantly higher tolerance to arsenic than ‘Sardari.’ Arsenic accumulation by plants root and shoot increased with the increasing arsenic concentrations in medium, which ‘Zarin’ had a higher ability to absorb and translocate arsenic to the shoots. Root accumulated more arsenic than shoot. The similar trend of chlorophyll content and wheat growth under different arsenic concentration suggesting that arsenic toxicity affects the photosynthesis which ultimately results in the reduction of wheat growth and yield.  相似文献

Abstract

Hydroponic culture is often used for screening plant tolerance or remediation efficacy to environmental pollutants. Field experiments are usually avoided because of soil and groundwater contamination; thus pot experiments are the next step. In this study, the effect of various levels of atrazine in corn and cadmium (Cd) in corn and sunflower on physiological traits was comparatively investigated in hydroponic and soil culture. Also, Cd absorption and transfer factor to shoots were determined in soil. Atrazine affected corn growth at about 20% at the rates of 2 mg L?1 and 20 mg kg?1. In both species, Cd was largely stored in the root (75–88%), and the transfer factor was higher in corn than sunflower (0.59 vs. 0.37, at 20 mg kg?1). Cadmium threshold of 20% reduction in shoot growth, leaf area, and chlorophyll in corn was observed at about 20, 40, and 80 mg kg?1, respectively. The ratio of hydroponic–soil pollutant rate that similarly affected plant growth was about 1:10 and 1:5 for atrazine and Cd, respectively. The linear correlation coefficient between traits was also studied.  相似文献

Abstract

The effects of exogenous NaCl and silicon on ion distribution were investigated in two alfalfa (Medicago sativa. L.) cultivars: the high salt tolerant Zhongmu No. 1 and the low salt tolerant Defor. The cultivars were grown in a hydroponic system with a control (that had neither NaCl nor Si added), a Si treatment (1 mmol L?1 Si), a NaCl treatment (120 mmol L?1 NaCl), and a Si and NaCl treatment (120 mmol L?1 NaCl + 1 mmol L?1 Si). After 15 days of the NaCl and Si treatments, four plants of the cultivars were removed and divided into root, shoot and leaf parts for Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe3+, Mn2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+ content measurements. Compared with the NaCl treatment, the added Si significantly decreased Na+ content in the roots, but notably increased K+ contents in the shoots and leaves of the high salt tolerant Zhongmu No.1 cultivar. Applying Si to both cultivars under NaCl stress did not significantly affect the Fe3+, Mg2+ and Zn2+ contents in the roots, shoots and leaves of Defor and the roots and shoots of Zhongmu No.1, but increased the Ca2+ content in the roots of Zhongmu No.1 and the Mn2+ contents in the shoots and leaves of both cultivars, while it decreased the Ca2+ and Cu2+ contents of the shoots and leaves of both cultivars under salt stress. Salt stress decreased the K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ and Cu2+ contents in plants, but significantly increased Zn2+ content in the roots, shoots and leaves and Mn2+ content in the shoots of both cultivars when Si was not applied. Thus, salt affects not only the macronutrient distribution but also the micronutrient distribution in alfalfa plants, while silicon could alter the distributions of Na+ and some trophic ions in the roots, shoots and leaves of plants to improve the salt tolerance.  相似文献

This study is aimed at assessing the ability of metal-resistant yeast, Candida tropicalis, to uptake cadmium from the liquid medium. The minimum inhibitory concentration of Cd2+ against C. tropicalis was 2,800 mg L?1. The yeast also showed tolerance towards Zn2+ (3,100 mg L?1), Ni2+ (3,000 mg L?1), Hg2+ (2,400 mg L?1), Cu2+ (2,300 mg L?1), Cr6+ (2,000 mg L?1), and Pb2+ (1,200 mg L?1). The yeast isolate showed typical growth curves, but low specific rate of growth was observed in the presence of cadmium. The yeast isolate showed optimum growth at 30°C and pH 7. The metal processing ability of the isolate was determined in a medium containing 100 mg L?1 of Cd2+. C. tropicalis could decline Cd2+ 57%, 69%, and 80% from the medium after 48, 96, and 144 h, respectively. C. tropicalis was also able to remove Cd2+ 56% and 73% from the wastewater after 6 and 12 days, respectively. Cd produced an increase in glutathione (GSH) and non-protein thiol levels by 146.15% and 59.67% at 100 mg L?1 concentration, respectively. Metal tolerance and accumulation together with changes in the GSH status and non-protein thiols under Cd exposure were studied in C. tropicalis.  相似文献
