Abstract. Over a 10-year period, runoff and soil erosion on the plots of the Woburn Erosion Reference Experiment were concentrated in periods with sparse vegetation cover: in winter after the late planting of cereals; in spring after the planting of beets; or when soils were bare after harvest. The mean event runoff of 1.32 mm from plots cultivated up-and-downslope was significantly greater ( P <0.05) than that from plots cultivated across-slope (0.82 mm). However, mean event soil loss was not significantly different between the two cultivation directions. No significant differences were found between minimal and standard cultivations. Mean event runoff from the across-slope/minimal tillage treatment combination (0.58 mm) was significantly less ( P <0.01) than from the up-and-downslope/minimal tillage (1.41 mm), up-and-downslope/standard tillage (1.24 mm), and across-slope/standard tillage (1.07 mm) treatment combinations. Runoff from the across-slope/standard treatment combination was significantly ( P <0.05) less than from the up-and-downslope/minimal tillage treatment. The across-slope/minimal tillage treatment combination had a significantly smaller ( P <0.05) event soil loss (67 kg ha−1) than the up-and-downslope/standard tillage (278 kg ha−1) and up-and-downslope/minimal tillage (245 kg ha−1) combinations. Crop yields were significantly ( P <0.05) higher on across-slope plots in 1988, 1996 and 1997 than on up-and-downslope plots, and were also higher (but not significantly) on the across-slope plots in 7 of the 8 remaining years. Minimal cultivation decreased yield compared with standard cultivation in one year only. We recommend that across-slope cultivation combined with minimal tillage be investigated at field scale to assess its suitability for incorporation into UK farming systems.  相似文献

秸秆覆盖和有机质输入对紫色土土壤可蚀性的影响   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
以紫色土坡耕地为研究对象开展野外径流小区定位监测试验,设置有机质(OM)、秸秆覆盖(SW)、有机质+秸秆覆盖(OM+SW)和对照(无秸秆覆盖,不增施有机质,CK)4个处理,对2014年侵蚀性降雨条件下不同处理小区径流及产沙特征进行分析,以单位径流冲刷侵蚀量(K_w)作为土壤可蚀性指标,研究四川省中江县紫色土区秸秆覆盖和有机质输入对坡耕地土壤可蚀性的影响。结果表明:秸秆和有机质输入能显著降低紫色土区坡耕地产流量,4个处理减小径流的效果表现为OM+SWSWOMCK;有机质、秸秆覆盖均显著降低单位径流侵蚀量,从而减小土壤可蚀性,OM、SW、OM+SW处理对土壤可蚀性的平均消减率分别为22.30%、29.76%、35.04%,秸秆覆盖处理(SW)对土壤可蚀性的减小效应略高于有机质处理(OM),但二者差异不显著。综合分析得出,增施有机质的同时进行秸秆覆盖可作为紫色土区坡耕地减小土壤可蚀性的有效措施。  相似文献

Abstract. This paper reports the growth and yield of grain and the utilization of fertilizer nitrogen applied on either one or two occasions in spring to a crop of winter barley established by direct drilling on a chalk soil in southern England. Nitrogen, as ammonium nitrate, was applied at rates of 0 to 140 kg N ha−1 in a range of proportions on two occasions (March and April 1981); nitrogen-15 was used to facilitate study of the nitrogen utilization by the crop.
When sampled before the second top-dressing in April, the greatest number of tillers were found on plants treated with 70 and 100 kg N ha−1 in March. The total above ground dry matter production at harvest was greatest when the split nitrogen dressing totalled more than 100 kg N ha−1, although the apparent efficiency of nitrogen usage (kg DM per kg N applied) was greatest when 60 kg N ha−1 was divided equally between the two application dates. Grain yield was heaviest (6.471 ha−1) at the largest rate of nitrogen applied (140 kg N ha−1); the lightest yield from the nitrogen treated crops was recorded from 100 kg N ha−1 applied as a single dressing in April that stimulated shoot production and decreased individual grain weight. The recovery in grain and straw of labelled fertilizer nitrogen applied only in March averaged 42.2% and was 49.8% when the nitrogen was applied only in April. The recovery of nitrogen applied in both March and April at the total rate of 100 kg N ha−1 but split 30/70 or 70/30 was 44.5% and 42.5% respectively. Non-fertilizer sources of nitrogen contributed 60.7–71.7% of the total nitrogen uptake by the crop at harvest.  相似文献

Abstract. Three different management systems were compared in an olive grove on a Vertic soil, near the city of Cordoba, Spain. Rainfall, runoff and soil loss were recorded from experimental plots of 6×12 m for three years. Results indicated that the no-tillage system, which was kept weed-free with herbicides, gave the largest soil loss (8.5 t ha−1 yr−1) and average annual runoff coefficient (21.5%), due to increased soil compaction, particularly outside the canopy projection area. A system that used a grass cover gave the lowest soil losses (1.2 t ha−1 yr−1) and average annual runoff coefficient (2.5%) due to the protective effects of the cover and increased soil aggregate stability. The third system, conventional tillage, gave intermediate results, with a soil loss of 4.0 t ha−1 yr−1 and an average runoff coefficient of 7.4%. The search for alternative soil management to conventional tillage should consider occasional light tillage to establish a grass cover that would keep both soil erosion and runoff losses to a minimum.  相似文献

Calcium carbonates and gypsum are often used to improve the chemical status of acid soils. This study discusses the effects of gypsum and polyacrylamide (PAM) application on infiltration and erodibility of a Japanese acid soil. Acid Kunigami mahji soil (sedimentary rock derived, Typic Hapludult) from Okinawa was packed into an acrylic plastic box, and simulated rainfall of 40 mm h−1 was applied. Prior to the rainfall, 2.5 t ha−1 of gypsum and/or 15 kg ha−1 of non-ionic or anionic PAM were applied onto soil surface. During a rainfall, surface runoff was collected periodically, and sediment concentration, pH, and electric conductivity of the runoff were measured. Gypsum application enhanced surface runoff. During the rainfall, EC of the runoff was greater than the critical coagulation concentration of the clays of the mahji soil, however the soil became dispersive with gypsum application. PAM application could improve infiltration of gypsum amended mahji soil and reduce sediment loss.  相似文献

The effects of burning on the levels of soil organic matter, soil nitrogen, and soil microbial biomass were studied by carrying out experimental shifting cultivation at two sites, Niah and Bakam in Sarawak, Malaysia. Vegetation biomass was burned in plots (10 × 10 m2) at the rates of 0 (control), 100, 200, and 300 Mg ha−1 at the Niah site and 0, 20, and 100 Mg ha−1 at the Bakam site. At the Niah site, the levels of total C and N of the soils did not change throughout the experiment in spite of enhanced soil respiration until 2 months after burning. Although burning induced an increase in the amount of NH4-N of the soils, the readily available pool of N (the sum of the NH4-N, NO3-N, microbial biomass N, and extractable organic N pools) in the burned plots was depleted appreciably at the end of rice cultivation. The effects of burning on these properties tended to be substantial with increasing amounts of the vegetation biomass burned. On the other hand, the levels of total C and N and the readily available N pool at the Bakam site were low before burning compared with those at the Niah site, and the burning treatments did not affect them appreciably. While the rice yield at the Niah site reached the average value obtained in traditional shifting cultivation in Sarawak, that at the Bakam site was much lower. It was suggested that the flush of NH4-N induced by burning was one of the major factors for rice growth.  相似文献

Abstract. A no-tillage (NT) system was developed in semiarid Morocco to improve the soil fertility and stabilize yield through conservation of water. Results in two long-term trials (4 and 11 years) were able to show the effects of a no-tillage system in increasing total soil organic matter and total nitrogen. Over time, the quality of the NT soil surface was improved compared with that under conventional tillage (CT) with disc harrows. This effect was the result of an increase in soil organic carbon (SOC) and a slight decline in pH. However, over time, nitrogen decreased in both tillage practices, especially in the 0–25 mm layer (from 0.59 to 0.57 t ha−1 and from 0.44 to 0.42 t ha−1 under NT and CT, respectively). After 4 years of NT an extra 5.62 t ha−1 of SOC was sequestered in the 0–25 mm layer, and after 11 years the SOC increased further to 7.21 t ha−1.  相似文献

Abstract. We studied the effects of five diverse non-agricultural organic wastes on soil composition, grass yield and grass nitrogen use in a 3–year field experiment. The applied wastes were distillery pot ale, dairy salt whey, abattoir blood and gut contents, composted green waste (two annual applications each), and paper-mill sludge (one annual application). With the exception of N immobilization in the paper-mill sludge treatment, the wastes had no unfavourable effects on the soil. In the 2–year treatments, grass dry matter yields from the abattoir and distillery wastes (26.3 t ha−1) were larger than those from a NH4NO3 fertilizer treatment (24.3 t ha−1) and from the dairy waste (20.4 t ha−1) and composted waste (22.8 t ha−1). Yield and N recovery were impaired markedly after the single application of paper-mill sludge, both in the year of application and in the following year. The results demonstrated clear differences in the ability of the applied wastes to provide crop-available N. We conclude that in order to improve prediction of both the benefits and risks from waste recycling to land, more information should be gathered on soil/waste/crop interactions.  相似文献

Abstract. During 1986 erosion on soil mulched with 6 t ha-1 of straw was compared with that on soil maintained bare by herbicides in a mature apple orchard. The orchard was on well-drained soil with a sandy loam top on a slope of 2°. Erosion was greatest in the alleys between the trees, where traffic had compacted and smoothed the soil. The mean annual soil loss on bare ground in the alleys was 0.45 t ha-1; straw mulch reduced this by 85%. Erosion was worst between July and October, when rainfall > 10 mm h-1 was most frequent. However, differences in soil moisture and resistance to infiltration may have also contributed to differences in erosion throughout the year.  相似文献

Abstract. The effect of increasing rates of nitrogen (N) fertilizer on the yield response of 3 or 4 consecutive winter cereal crops after ploughing out grass was investigated at six field sites on commercial farms in England and Wales. Amounts of N required for an economically optimum yield (>3 kg of grain for each kg of fertilizer N applied) ranged from 0 to 265 kg ha−1 and were dependent on soil N supply, but not on crop yield. Optimum N rates were large (mean 197 kg N ha−1) at three sites: two sites where cereals followed 2-year grass leys receiving low N inputs (<200 kg N ha−1), and at one site where a cut and grazed 4-year ley had received c . 315 kg N ha−1 of fertilizer N annually. At the other three sites where 4 and 5-year grass leys had received large regular amounts of organic manures (20–30 t or m3 ha−1) plus fertilizer N ( c . 300 kg ha−1 each year), optimum N rates were low (mean 93 kg N ha−1) and consistently over-estimated by the farmer by an average of 107 kg N ha−1. Optimum N rates generally increased in successive years after ploughing as the N supply from the soil declined. Determination of soil C:N ratio and mineral N (NO3N+NH4N) to 90 cm depth in autumn were helpful in assessing fertilizer N need. The results suggest there is scope to improve current fertilizer recommendations for cereals after grass by removing crop yield as a determinant and including an assessment of soil mineralizable N during the growing season.  相似文献

Abstract. In the Sahel, promising technologies for agricultural intensification include millet stover mulching and ridging. A four year on-farm experiment was set-up in order to assess the effect of various combinations of these two technologies on soil chemical and physical quality in a millet ( Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) –- cowpea ( Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) relay intercropping system. Treatments included bare surface, ridging, a surface applied banded millet stover mulch (2 t ha–1) and a banded millet stover mulch (2 t ha–1) buried in ridges. The latter three treatments were implemented exclusively in the cowpea rows, with an annual rotation between the millet and cowpea rows. Both the bare and ridge plots experienced a rapid loss of organic carbon, acidification and the development of extensive surface crusts but no increase in bulk density or penetration resistance. In the year of application, mulching improved soil quality in the cowpea row with respect to pH, organic carbon and exchangeable K+ and Mg++ content, penetration resistance and bulk density, and it reduced the decline in exchangeable Ca++ and total N content. In the year following mulch application, a general decline in soil chemical quality was observed in the millet row, except for organic carbon content, and a positive residual effect was observed on penetration resistance and bulk density. As a rule, the effects of mulching in the year of application tended to be stronger in the ridged treatment with buried residue than in the banded surface mulch. In the year following application, this tendency was reversed. For the purpose of reducing soil degradation by nutrient mining and wind erosion, a banded surface mulch therefore appeared more effective than buried mulch.  相似文献

This study was carried out to clarify the effects of soil nitrate before cultivation and amounts of basal-dressed nitrogen on additional N application rate and yields of semi-forced tomato for three years from 1998 to 2000. The amounts and timing of additional N dressing were determined based on diagnosis of petiole sap nitrate. The top-dressing was carried out with a liquid fertilizer when the nitrate concentration of a leaflet's petiole sap of leaf beneath fruit which is 2–4 cm declined below 2000 mg L−1.
For standard yield by the method of fertilizer application based on this condition, no basal-dressed nitrogen was required when soil nitrate before cultivation was 150 mg kg−1 dry soil or higher in the 0–30 cm layer; 38 kg ha−1 of basal-dressed nitrogen, which corresponds to 25% of the standard rate of fertilizer application of Chiba Prefecture, was optimum when soil nitrate before cultivation was 100150 mg kg−1 dry soil; 75 kg ha−1 of basal-dressed nitrogen, which corresponds to 50% of the standard, was optimum when soil nitrate before cultivation was under 100 mg kg−1 dry soil. A standard yield was secured and the rate of nitrogen fertilizer application decreased by 49–76% of the standard by keeping the nitrate concentration of tomato petiole sap between 1000–2000 mg L−1 from early harvest time to topping time under these conditions.  相似文献

Denitrification of paddy fields is a key process for improving water quality in fields where nitrate concentrations are high. The objective of the present study was to understand the effects of incorporating organic carbon (C) into soil on the denitrification rate of paddy fields in winter. On 11 December 2007, separate paddy field plots were prepared by incorporating 5 Mg ha−1 of rice straw (RS), 11 Mg ha−1 of rice straw compost (RSC) or a control. A field with a high concentration of nitrate in the water (averaging 18 mg N L−1) was irrigated until 29 March. During the experiment, the daily average soil temperature at a depth of 0.05 m ranged between 3 and 15°C. The nitrate concentration in the surface water in the RS plot, where the residence time was 2 days, decreased more than the concentration in the control or RSC plots. The total estimated nitrate removal from each plot in relation to the other plots was RS > RSC = control. Measurements of the soil from each plot on 29 February 2008 showed that incorporation of RS significantly increased the denitrification potential, even at low temperatures (5–10°C). Furthermore, the RS plot contained more dissolved organic C than the control or RSC plots. This result indicates that supplying RS effectively increases denitrification under low-temperature conditions.  相似文献

Abstract. Growing cover crops during the winter before spring-planted crops is often suggested as an effective method to decrease nitrate leaching. A four-course crop rotation (potatoes-cereal-sugarbeet-cereal) was followed through two rotations on a sandy soil in the English Midlands. Three management systems were imposed on the rotation to test their effects on nitrate loss. The effects of cover crops on nitrate leaching and crop yields were compared with the more conventional practice of over-winter bare fallow before potatoes and sugarbeet.
Cover crop N uptake was variable between years, averaging 25 kg ha−1, which is typical of their performance on sandy soils in the UK. The cover crops usually decreased nitrate leaching but their effectiveness depended on good establishment before the start of drainage. Over 7 years, cover crops decreased the average N concentration in the drainage from 24 to 11 mg l−1. Potato yield and tuber N offtake increased after cover crops. Ware tuber yield increased by an average of c . 8%; this was unlikely to be due to additional N mineralization from the cover crop because the potatoes received 220–250 kg fertilizer N ha−1, and non-N effects are therefore implicated. Sugar yield was not increased following a cover crop.
After 8 years of nitrate-retentive practices, there were no measurable differences in soil organic matter. However, plots that had received only half of the N fertilizer each year contained, on average, 0.14% less organic matter at the end of the experiment.  相似文献

Field experiments were designed to quantify N2O emissions from corn fields after the application of different types of nitrogen fertilizers. Plots were established in South Kalimantan, Indonesia, and given either urea (200 kg ha−1), urea (170 kg ha−1) + dicyandiamide ([DCD] 20 kg ha−1) or controlled-release fertilizer LP-30 (214 kg ha−1) prior to the plantation of corn seeds (variety BISI 2). Each fertilizer treatment was equivalent to 90 kg N ha−1. Plots without chemical N fertilizer were also prepared as a control. The field was designed to have three replicates for each treatment with a randomized block design. Nitrous oxide fluxes were measured at 4, 8, 12, 21, 31, 41, 51, 72 and 92 days after fertilizer application (DAFA). Total N2O emission was the highest from the urea plots, followed by the LP-30 plots. The emissions from the urea + DCD plots did not differ from those from the control plots. The N2O emission from the urea + DCD plots was approximately one thirtieth of that from the urea treatment. However, fertilizer type had no effect on grain yield. Thus, the use of urea + DCD is considered to be the best mitigation option among the tested fertilizer applications for N2O emission from corn fields in Kalimantan, Indonesia.  相似文献

公路施工过程中产生大面积裸坡,植物无法迅速生长,土壤流失量也特别大,铺设覆盖物是一种有效而廉价的保持水土的方法。为了研究不同覆盖物在坡面的水土保持效果,该文基于自制的室内人工模拟降雨器,在对其进行标定后,对已覆盖无纺布、遮阳网或草帘子的正在进行绿化喷播施工的模拟公路边坡进行人工模拟降雨试验,对3种覆盖物在公路边坡的水土保持效果进行了详细描述。3种覆盖物下坡面的径流量、径流系数、泥沙浓度以及产沙量均明显(P=0)小于裸坡的,说明无纺布、遮阳网和草帘子均可以有效的减少公路边坡喷播绿化过程中的水土流失。其中,草帘子覆盖下坡面的径流量(1.9mL/s)比裸坡减小69.9%,径流系数(6.4%)比裸坡减小14.9%,坡面产沙量(1.5g/m2)仅为裸坡的3.4%,且远小于无纺布和遮阳网覆盖下的,说明草帘子对公路边坡的水土保持效果较好。该文为公路边坡绿化施工中覆盖物的水土保持效果提供理论依据,为覆盖物的选择提供科学参考。  相似文献

Abstract. To study the influence of different vegetation species and plant properties on the generation of surface runoff and soil erosion in south east Spain, a series of rainfall simulation experiments was conducted on small ( c . 1.5 m2) plots. These were carried out in October 1993 and May 1994 on two sites close to Murcia. Six vegetation types were studied, with some at different stages of maturity, giving a total of nine vegetation treatments and two bare soil treatments. Four replicates of each treatment were exposed to a rainstorm of 120 mm/h for 15 minutes. The results of the experiments show that there are few significant differences in the ability of the vegetation types studied to control runoff or soil erosion. Of the plant properties considered, only plant canopy cover showed a significant relationship with soil loss and runoff with the greatest reduction in soil loss taking place at canopy covers greater than 30%. The implications of this research are that future efforts should be directed at developing ecological successions and revegetation methods which promote a substantial and sustainable canopy cover.  相似文献

Abstract. The behaviour of potassium (K) in a range of arable soils was examined by plotting the change in exchangeable K of the topsoil (Δ Kex) at the end of a 3–5 year period against the K balance over the same period (fertilizer K applied minus offtake in crops, estimated from farmers' records of yield and straw removal). Based on the assumption that values for offtake per tonne of crop yield used for UK arable crops MAFF 2000) are valid averages, 10–50% of Δ Kex was explained by the balance, relationships being stronger on shallow/stony soils. Excess fertilizer tended to increase Kex and reduced fertilization decreased it, requiring between 1.2 and 5.4 kg K ha−1 for each mg L−1Δ Kex. However, merely to prevent Kex falling required an extra 20 kg K ha−1 yr−1 fertilizer on Chalk soils and soils formed in the overlying Tertiary and Quaternary deposits, despite clay contents >18%. Whereas, on older geological materials, medium soils needed no extra K and clays gained 17 kg K ha−1 yr−1. It is unlikely that the apparent losses on some soil types are anomalies due to greater crop K contents. Theory and the literature suggest leaching from the topsoil as a major factor; accumulation in the subsoil was not measured. Recommendations for K fertilization of UK soils might be improved by including loss or gain corrections for certain soil types.  相似文献

Abstract. Lime was applied in summer 1981 at rates up to 201 ha−1 prior to reseeding an unimproved peaty hill soil. A marked pH gradient with depth developed showing that 3 years after application lime had very little effect below a depth of 5 cm. Soil pH values for 0–7.5 cm samples were: nil lime-4.2; 1 t ha−1-pH 4.3; 2 tha−1-pH 4.6; 4 t ha−1-pH 5.0; 6 t ha−1-pH 5.6. In the 0–2.5 cm layer pH values were much higher.
In all years at least 80% of maximum yield was achieved from an initial application of 21 ha−1 lime. Botanical analysis showed that maximum persistence of sown species, perennial ryegrass and timothy, occurred from 2 t ha−1 lime; 6 t ha−1 lime was necessary for maximum persistence of clover. Lime application had only small effects on the mineral composition of the herbage.  相似文献

Abstract. This study was undertaken to test the hypothesis that an improved system of catchment management in combination with appropriate cropping practices can sustain increased crop production and improve soil quality of Vertisols, compared with prevailing traditional farming practices. Initiated in 1976, the improved system consisted of integrated land management to conserve soil and water, with excess rainwater being removed in a controlled manner. This was combined with improved crop rotation (legume based) and integrated nutrient management. In the traditional system, sorghum or chickpea was grown in the post-rainy season with organic fertilizers, and in the rainy season the field was maintained as a cultivated fallow. The average grain yield of the improved system over 24 years was 4.7 t ha−1 yr−1, nearly a five-fold increase over the traditional system (about 1 t ha−1 yr−1). There was also evidence of increased organic C, total N and P, available N, P and K, microbial biomass C and N in the soil of the improved system. A positive relationship between soil available P and soil organic C suggested that application of P to Vertisols increased carbon sequestration by 7.4 t C ha−1 and, in turn, the productivity of the legume-based system, thus ultimately enhancing soil quality.  相似文献
