The botanical composition, intake and digestibility of the diet selected by Inner Mongolian Cashmere goats grazing on a native Leymus chinensis plant community were measured in two grazing periods (June and August) using the n-alkane markers. In each grazing period, 48 Inner Mongolian Cashmere goats (24 wethers and 24 does with an average live weight of 22.1 ± 1.2 kg and 19.6 ± 0.8 kg, respectively) were divided in two groups (G1: grazing group; G2: cage-fed group) of 24 animals each. Based on the observation of G1 grazing behaviour, G2 goats were fed on herbage obtained by a simulative method and were housed in metabolism cages to determine the alkane faecal recoveries. Diet composition was estimated by comparing the odd-chain n-alkane pattern (C25–C35) of the selected plant species with the n-alkane faecal concentrations, corrected for their incomplete faecal recovery. The alkane pair C32:C33 and C36 alkane were used to estimate intake and diet digestibility, respectively. The results showed that the increase of herbage availability from June to August, resulted in higher (P < 0.05) DM, CP, ME, ADF and NDF intake of both wethers and does, with no evident changes in ADF and NDF intake in does., The intake of nutrients differed significantly between wethers and does in both experimental periods, except for NDF in EP1 and ME in EP2. Differences between grazing seasons and goats' sex in nutrients digestibility were not observed. Diet composition indicated seasonal differences, being Sonchus brachyotus, Artemisia frigida and Phragmites communis the main components of the diet in June. However, Suaeda corniculata, Chloris virgata, Xanthium sibiricum and Echinochloa crusgalli became the main diet components in August. Moreover, the sex affected significantly the diet choices in both grazing periods.  相似文献

The application of n-alkanes as faecal markers to estimate feed intake and apparent digestibility (DMDap) of equines and cattle was studied. Additionally, the effect of using different data on diet composition, known proportions of the diet components (DC1) and those estimated using the alkane markers (DC2), on the accuracy of intake and DMDap estimates was evaluated. Six mature horses, divided in two groups of three animals (H1 and H2), and three adult non-lactating cows of Asturiana de los Valles breed (C) were housed in individual stalls. H1 and C groups were fed on a diet composed of Lolium perenne L. (70%) and heather (30%) and H2 received L. perenne (40%), heather (30%) and Ulex gallii Planchon (30%). The dietary component heather represented the field proportions of different plant species of heathland, namely Erica umbellata L., Erica cinerea L. and Calluna vulgaris L., at this experimental period. All animals received a daily dose of paper pellets containing C24, C32 and C36 n-alkanes as external markers with the purpose of using different n-alkane pairs of adjacent chain length for feed intake estimations. The results indicated that a period of 3 and 5 days was sufficient for these external markers to reach a steady concentration in faeces of cattle and equines, respectively. In contrast to the results obtained in cattle, the alkane faecal recovery in equines was unrelated to the carbon chain length. Diet composition only affected the faecal recovery of the alkanes C24 (P < 0.05), C31 (P < 0.05), C32 (P < 0.05) and C36 (P < 0.01) in the faeces of the equines, suggesting a different dispersion of the synthetic n-alkanes in the digesta. In equines, DMDap estimates were not affected by the n-alkane (C27, C29, C31 and C33) used in the calculations, contrasting with the significant (P < 0.001) effect observed in cattle. In both animal species, the data on diet composition (DC1 or DC2) used in the calculations did not affect DMDap estimates. Feed intake estimates were affected by the alkane pair used in the calculations in H1 (P < 0.05), H2 (P < 0.001) and C (P < 0.001). The data on diet composition used in the intake calculations affected the resultant estimates in H1 (P < 0.05) but not in H2 and C. The differences from the known intake values were lower when using C31:C32 alkane pair, overestimating intake in only an average of 4.5, 13.0 and 1.3% in H1, H2 and C, respectively, using DC1 or DC2. The results obtained in this study confirm the accuracy of the n-alkane markers to estimate simultaneously feed intake, apparent digestibility and diet composition of equines and cattle grazing these type vegetation communities.  相似文献

An experiment was carried out with sixteen non-pregnant, non-lactating adult Rasa Aragonesa ewes fed different proportions of lucerne and ryegrass hays to validate the use of n-alkanes and NIRS methods to estimate diet composition, intake and digestibility. The effect of two different faecal sampling procedures (daily pool (S1) or rectal spot samples (S2)) was also tested. The faecal concentration of n-alkanes was affected by the sampling procedure, although differences were lower than 12%. Faecal recoveries were not affected by diet, except in the case of C23 (P < 0.0001), C28 (P = 0.0264) and C33 (P = 0.0241), and followed a curvilinear pattern with alkane chain length. Recovery was complete in the case of C29, C31 and C33, which countersigns the usefulness of these internal markers for digestibility and digestive flow studies (especially C31, given its high concentration in most plants). The faecal recoveries of C31 and C32 were not similar, the assumption of identity affecting in an important way the reliability of intake estimates. The NIRS methodology appeared as a promising alternative for predicting diet composition (R2 of the cross-validation = 0.98) and faecal concentration of most natural alkanes, although that was not the case for dosed alkanes. In all cases, the prediction equations obtained from the spectra of the faecal spot samples were better than those obtained from daily pool samples.  相似文献

The present study aimed to evaluate the reliability of the n-alkane technique for estimating herbage intake in beef cattle receiving two different feeding levels (low and high) and to test the effect of different faeces sampling procedures (total faeces samples or rectal grab samples at 8 h intervals) on the n-alkane faecal recoveries and hence on intake estimates. Two consecutive experiments were performed with 11 non-lactating beef cows of “Asturiana de los Valles” breed, fed with lucerne hay at two feeding levels: 1.0 or 1.7 kg DM/100 kg body weight (BW). Animals received a daily dose of paper pellets containing C24, C32 and C36 n-alkanes as external markers with the purpose of using different n-alkane pairs of adjacent chain length (C23/C24, C25/C24, C31/C32, C33/C32, C35/C36) for intake calculations. A 5-day equilibrium period was sufficient for external marker concentrations and n-alkane pair ratios to reach steady state in faeces. There was no effect of different sampling times (every 8 h) on the faecal excretion of n-alkane pairs C31/C32 and C33/C32. Grab samples obtained at the time of dosing (0830 h) gave the best estimate of n-alkane pair ratios in total faeces collection. There was a general trend of increasing n-alkane faecal recoveries with increased chain length, although n-alkanes C30, C31 and C33 showed lower faecal recoveries than expected. n-Alkane recoveries were in general lower at the low feeding level, where an increase in individual variability of natural n-alkane recoveries was observed. At both feeding levels, the n-alkane pairs C23/C24 and C35/C36 gave accurate estimates of the treatment average intake, although the natural n-alkane (C23 or C35) faecal recoveries showed high individual variability, which could be in part due to analytical bias caused by their extremely low concentration in the diet and faeces. However, the n-alkane pairs C31/C32 and C33/C32 gave the greatest deviations of intake estimates, due to the high discrepancy between the faecal recoveries of natural and dosed n-alkanes. These results demonstrate that in beef cattle, feeding level may have some influence on the relative faecal recoveries of the n-alkane pair used for intake calculations. This effect, together with the high individual variability of n-alkane recoveries, especially under low feeding level, may produce significant deviations of the individual intake estimates.  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary treatments on microbial loads and pH of gastrointestinal tract contents in meat goats, as well as the concentration of volatile fatty acid (VFA) in the rumen. Crossbred (Boer x Spanish) goats (n = 36; BW = 17.7 kg) were assigned randomly to one of three experimental diets (n = 12/diet or 3 pens/treatment) for 90 days:alfalfa (Medicago sativa) hay alone (AH-diet); 18% CP concentrate alone (C-diet); or, a combined diet (AHC-diet), consisting of the AH-diet for the first 45 days, followed by 45 days of the C-diet. After evisceration, pH values of rumen liquor and colon digesta were immediately measured from each animal, as well as aseptically collected rumen liquor and rectal samples to determine the microbial loads. Collected rumen liquor was also prepared for volatile fatty acid (VFA) contents. Feeding meat goats with alfalfa hay alone had higher (P < 0.05) rumen (7.17) and colon (7.10) pH compared with those fed either the concentrate alone or combined-diet. Although the acetate content was high in the AH-fed group (66.3 mM) compared to the AHC-diet group (34.6 mM), no significant differences were found in the total VFA contents in rumen liquor among the goats fed three different dietary regimens. Total plate counts were not significantly different among goats fed the experimental diets in the rumen or rectal samples. Escherichia coli counts in the rectal samples were lower (P < 0.05) in the AH-diet group (6.43 log10 CFU/g) compared with the C-diet (8.21 log10 CFU/g) or AHC-diet (8.40 log10 CFU/g) groups. However, no significant differences were found in the E. coli counts of rumen samples from goats fed the experimental diets. The mean (± SEM) rumen E. coli counts were 1.38, 1.65, and 2.51 ± 0.560 log10 CFU/g in the AH-, C-, and AHC-diet groups, respectively. The results indicate that feeding hay alone may decrease the fecal shedding of E. coli in meat goats with increasing the rumen and colon pH.  相似文献

A four-year crossing scheme involving Spanish V line (V) and Egyptian Baladi Red (B) rabbits was carried out to produce five genetic groups: V, B, 1/2B1/2V(F1), (1/2B1/2V)2(F2), and ((1/2B1/2V)2)2. The last genetic group was considered a new line, named APRI. Body weights (BW) and daily gains in weight (DG) from four to twelve weeks were evaluated for 13,383 rabbits produced by 330 sires and 1074 dams. An animal model was used to estimate heritabilities and common litter effects and a generalized least squares procedure was used to estimate direct additive effects, and direct and maternal heterosis.Heritabilities for growth traits were mostly moderate, ranging from 0.075 to 0.240 for BW and from 0.020 to 0.104 for DG. The V line was heavier and had better gains at each weighing than B rabbits. The F2 and APRI were also lower in most post-weaning growth performance measures than V line rabbits. APRI rabbits were significantly lighter by 39, 26, 46, 64, and 50 g at ages of 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks, respectively, relative to the purebred V line, while APRI was significantly heavier by 36 and 127 g relative to the B line at 4 and 12 weeks. The V line, in general, had a higher DG than B line. The differences were 3.15, 7.91 and 1.95 g/d at age intervals of 8–10, 10–12 and 4–12 weeks. Differences in direct additive effects between the two lines were in favor of V line rabbits reaching 15.0% (76 g) at 4 weeks and 13.3% (195 g) at 12 weeks. Direct additive effects for DG were significant during most age intervals reaching 35.7% (7.19 g/d) in the interval of 10–12 weeks. All estimates of direct heterosis were positive and ranged from 4.9 to 16.7% for BW and 14.4 to 29.5% for DG, but the estimates for maternal heterosis were, in most cases, significantly negative and ranging from − 4.5 to − 15.2% for BW and from 20.6 to − 36.9% for DG. If the results are confirmed at commercial farms, the APRI line could be reared in heat stress conditions.  相似文献

The response of growing quails (n = 900, divided into 36 subgroups) to dietary levels of essential amino acids (EAA) at different energy levels on growth and immunity was investigated. Nine diets including three levels of metabolizable energy (ME, 11.30, 12.13 and 12.97 MJ ME kg− 1) each at three levels of EAA (low, medium and high) in a 3 × 3 factorial design were formulated. Each diet was offered to 4 replicated groups up to 5 weeks of age. The ratio of lysine to protein and the level of methionine and threonine to lysine remained almost similar in all the diets as specified by NRC [NRC, 1994. Pages 44–45 in Nutrients requirements of poultry. 8th ed. Natl. Acad. Press, Washington, DC.]. Body weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio did not differ statistically due to the treatments i.e. interaction of ME and EAA levels. However, there was linear increase in body weight gain with increased EAA levels during 0–3 or 0–5 weeks of age. Feed intake increased linearly with the decreased ME (P < <0.01) and increased EAA (P < 0.01) in diets. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) improved (P < 0.01) linearly with increase in dietary ME concentration from 0–3 or 0–5 weeks of age. FCR and energy efficiency improved in diets with medium and high levels of EAA during 0–3 weeks, while it did not differ during 0–5 weeks of age. Protein efficiency (PE) improved linearly (P < 0.01) with decreased EAA levels during 0–3 or 0–5 weeks of age, and also with the increase in dietary ME level during 0–5 weeks growth phase. Nitrogen retention per unit energy intake was significantly higher in diet containing 12.97 MJ ME kg− 1 with high level of EAA. Humoral (SRBC) and cellular (PHA-P) immune response and yield of immune organs did not differ due to ME, EAA or ME x EAA. Therefore, it can be concluded that the optimum level of dietary ME is 11.30 MJ kg− 1 with CP 25.83%, lysine 1.49%, methionine 0.58% and threonine 1.17% on dry matter basis during 0–5 weeks of age for gain. However for optimum feed conversion, the growing quails require diet with ME 12.97 MJ kg− 1 with CP 23.23%, lysine 1.30%, methionine 0.50% and threonine 1.02% for 0–5 weeks of age.  相似文献

During two consecutive replicates Iberian sows (n = 20) were subjected either to a conventional lactation (C) or intermittent suckling (IS). Piglets in the C treatment had free access to the dam. Piglets on IS treatment were separated from the sow during 6 h on days 29 and 30, 8 h on days 31 and 32, and 10 h on days 33 and 34. Litters on both treatments were weaned at 35 days of age and offered a starter diet until day 60 of age. The apparent digestibility (ApD) of nutrients and gross energy (GE) of the post-weaning diet was measured using Cr2O3 as external indigestible marker. Litters on IS tended to increase solid feed intake during the milk restriction (125 ± 12 vs. 70 ± 19 g piglet− 1 day− 1; P = 0.08). Feed intake was improved by IS during the second week post-weaning (676 ± 17 vs. 497 ± 12 g piglet− 1 day− 1, P < 0.01), but differences were totally offset after the 7th week of age. Differences in average growth rate of litters on C and IS treatments did not attain statistical significance during the period of restriction and in the first week post-weaning. Litters on IS showed increased growth rate during the second week post-weaning (422 ± 31 vs. 289 ± 33 g piglet− 1 day− 1; P = 0.01), but slower daily gains from the 3rd week post-weaning to 60 day of age than litters on C treatment (371 ± 14 vs. 432 ± 15 g piglet− 1 day− 1; P < 0.05). Nevertheless, neither at weaning nor at 60 days of age average body weight of piglets differed between treatments (7.71 ± 0.31 vs. 7.94 ± 0.30 kg for C and IS, at 35 days of age, 15.62 ± 0.65 vs. 16.20 ± 0.62 kg, at day 60). The apparent digestibility of nutrients of the starter diet offered after weaning remained unaffected by the treatment, except for a trend for higher ApD of GE for the piglets on IS treatment (P = 0.08). ApD for CP and GE was 78.1 ± 0.6 and 78.8 ± 0.3%, respectively. No significant differences in the proportions of total viscera and gastrointestinal tract to empty body weight (EBW) were observed between C and IS piglets at weaning and 60 d of age. In conclusion, the increase in feed intake observed prior and early after weaning as a consequence of intermittent suckling during the last week of 35 d lactation had no effect on nutrient digestibility measured at two weeks after weaning and failed on improving Iberian piglet performance.  相似文献

Influence of the Naked Neck gene, NA, on heat tolerance was evaluated in slow growing meat-type chickens in interaction with sex. Standard male Ross broilers were used as rapid growth controls. Fluctuating temperature was used to simulate day–night variations, i.e. 17 °C to 23 °C in normal and 27 °C to 33 °C in hot conditions. Male and female chickens were weighed twice and once a week, respectively, and Gompertz function was fitted to our data to calculate theoretical age at 1 kg (A1K) and 2 kg (A2K). Carcass, abdominal fat, breast and leg yields were measured (CY, AFY, BRY, and LY). Meat quality was evaluated 24 h post-mortem with pH and colour (L, a, b) of the breast, and 72 h post-mortem with breast meat drip loss (DL). Rectal temperature and its variation were measured at the maximum and minimum ambient temperature at 1 and 2 kg (RT2min, RT2max, and ΔBT2 kg). Hematocrit (HCT, ΔHCT) were measured at the same stages. Organoleptic characteristics of breast and leg muscles were studied for females from both ambient temperatures.Significant genotype × sex × temperature interaction was observed for A2K, AFY, RT2max, ΔBT2 kg, and ΔHTC2 kg. Hot condition did not affect ΔBT2 kg and A2K in homozygous NA birds; ΔBT2 kg was markedly increased in all other genotypes for males but not for females. Significant genotype × environment interactions were found only for A2K and CY. Sex × temperature interactions were found for all traits except for A1K, b, pH, and ΔHCT2 kg. In both conditions, males reached 2 kg at the same age (69 d) while females reached this weight 11 d latter in hot than in normal condition. Heat decreased CY in males (− 1.0%) and increased it in females (+ 1.4%). Meat was paler in males and darker in females in the hot condition leading to a difference in meat brightness between males and females only in the hot condition. Concerning sensory analysis, genotype × temperature interaction was significant for meat consistence, both in leg and breast muscles.Effects of the NA gene on susceptibility to heat stress were smaller in slow growing animals than in broilers. However, heat tolerance was still improved in homozygous NA slow growing birds, as shown by the limited change in diurnal variation of body temperature. Furthermore, the NA gene improved breast meat percentage. In contrast to broilers, where females should be recommended for production in hot climates, the present study would rather suggest that naked neck males from slow-growing meat-type ‘label’ chicken lines should be preferred.  相似文献

The aim of the current study was to investigate the associative effects of a cornstalk-based diet supplemented with alfalfa (Medicago sativa) hay on intake, digestibility, nitrogen (N) metabolisation, rumen environment and hematological parameters in Xiaoweihan sheep. We also investigated the optimal range of alfalfa hay to achieve positive associative effects and avoid negative effects. Xiaoweihan sheep (n = 5; fitted with rumen T-cannula) were fed five cornstalk-based diets in a 5 × 5 Latin square design. Diets contained 0, 50, 150, 300, 450 g alfalfa, and were supplemented with 100 g concentrate, respectively. Our results suggested that supplementation of 300 g alfalfa hay reduced (P < 0.05) cornstalk intake, but significantly increased dry matter (DM) intake (P < 0.05). Additionally, DM digestibility of 150 g alfalfa hay supplementation was slightly higher than that noted in other diets. Metabolism studies showed 50–150 g alfalfa hay supplementation had a positive associative effect (P < 0.05) on N utilization, with the greatest benefit noted with 150 g per day (P < 0.05) compared to unsupplemented diets. Alfalfa supplementation (50–450 g per day) resulted in an elevated trend of ammonia nitrogen (NH3–N) with 50 or 150 g of alfalfa hay more likely to promote sheep rumen environment, with a noticeable increase (P < 0.05) in serum urea nitrogen (UREAN) concentrations observed with 300 g alfalfa hay per day. Our data suggested that the optimal range to achieve beneficial effects and avoid negative effects was 150–300 g per day for cornstalk-based diets for sheep.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of monensin or virginiamycin, or both on the performance of and some energy balance parameters in Holstein cows. Forty multiparous Holstein cows were used in a randomized complete block design experiment. The basal diet was a total mixed ration based on lucerne hay (38% of DM) and ground maize (34% of DM). The experimental treatments were (1) control diet (C); (2) control diet plus 15 ppm of monensin (M); (3) control diet plus 20 ppm of virginiamycin (V), and control plus M (15 ppm) plus V (20 ppm). Cows received 8 kg/d (as fed) of the experimental diets plus ad libitum Eragrostis curvula hay from 3 weeks prepartum and only the experimental diets from calving until 60 days postpartum. Cows were milked twice daily. Dry matter intake did not differ between treatments, but energy corrected milk production was increased (P < 0.10) by supplementing V + M (43.3 kg/d) when compared to treatments M (36.9 kg/d) and V (37.9 kg/d). Change in body weight tended (P = 0.11) to be lower for cows supplemented with V + M (− 8.1 kg/60 d) when compared to cows receiving the control diet (− 34.2 kg/60 d). Both treatments M and V respectively, decreased blood BHBA and treatment M increased blood glucose when compared to the control diet (P < 0.10). Results suggest a complimentary effect between the two additives monensin and virginiamycin when supplemented to early lactation cows.  相似文献

Frequency distribution of females according to weaning-to-estrus interval (WEI) was evaluated in a database containing 15,600 breeding records of one Brazilian farm. The consequences of WEI duration on the reproductive performance was evaluated, emphasising on the effect of very short WEI (0 to 2 days). Only females with WEI up to 21 days, lactation length of 13 to 26 days and parity 1 to 8 were included in the analyses. The average WEI was 4.8 days and the percentage of females showing estrus within 2 days after weaning was 6.1%. In both primiparous (PO 1) and multiparous females (PO > 1) those with WEI of 3–5 days showed the lowest return to estrus rate. The highest RER and the lowest FR were observed when estrus occurred on the day after weaning, for primiparous sows, and on the day of weaning, for multiparous sows. In both parity classes, WEI of 0–2, 6–8, 9–12 and 13–18 days resulted in FR lower (P < 0.05) than those observed for WEI of 3–5 days. In PO 1 females, the lowest subsequent litter size (SLS) was observed in those with WEI of 6–8 and 9–12 days (P < 0.05). In PO > 1 females SLS increased significantly from WEI 0–2 to WEI 3–5 days, it decreased in females with WEI of 6–8 days and increased again in females with WEI of 9 to 21 days. A negative effect of WEI on reproductive performance is clear in females with very short WEI (0–2 days) and in those with WEI of 6–12 days.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to determine the effects of Acanthopanax senticosus (AS) extract as a dietary additive on serum contents and apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of amino acids (AA) in weaned piglets. In Exp. 1, 60 piglets with an average body weight (BW) of 5.64 kg were randomly assigned into 3 treatment groups who received maize-soybean-based diets supplemented with 0 or 1 g/kg of AS extract or 0.2 g/kg of colistin (n = 20 in each group). Blood samples were randomly collected from 5 piglets per group on days 7, 14 and 28 after the initiation of supplementation to determine the serum contents of free AA. In Exp. 2, 12 barrows with an average initial BW of 7.64 kg were also randomly assigned into 3 dietary treatment groups after being surgically fitted with a simple T-cannula at the terminal ileum. Samples of terminal ileal digesta were collected on day 7 for analysis of the AID of AA. The data showed that the serum contents and AID of most AA in the AS extract-supplemented group gradually increased by 15.3–80.8% and 4.1–30.8%, respectively, as the experiment proceeded in comparison with the colistin-supplemented group and/or control group. In conclusion, these findings indicated that AS extract could enhance the digestion and absorption of AA, which may be a potential mechanism of growth promotion.  相似文献

Calcium (Ca) requirement increase rapidly by pregnant ewes at late gestation as a result of high fetal growth. Furthermore, Ca deficiency results in poor growth and bone development in growing newborn lambs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of calcium supplementation (Calcium carbonate–CC) and vitamin AD3E injection (75,000 IU/shot) to pregnant Awassi ewes at late gestation (− 45 days prepartum) on their mineral levels and performance of their newborn lambs. Forty pregnant Awassi ewes at late gestation (65 ± 6.1 kg) were selected before parturition (− 45 days; using hormonal sponges for estrus synchronization) and randomly divided to 4 dietary treatments. The treatments were: group 1 Control (1.4% CC); group 2 (2.4% CC); group 3 (1.4% CC + 2 shots vitamin AD3E at − 45 and − 21 days prepartum); group 4 (2.4% CC + 2 shots vitamin AD3E at − 45 and − 21 days prepartum). Blood samples were collected from ewes (− 45, 0 days prepartum: 30 and 60 days postpartum) and lambs (0, 30 and 60 days old). Average milk yield and samples were collected. Body weights of lambs were taken at birth, 30 and 60 days old. Blood serum and milk samples were prepared and analyzed by AAS for Ca, Mg, Co, Mn and Cu concentrations.Calcium concentrations in bloods serum of ewes, 0 and 60 days postpartum, and lambs at weaning (60 days old) from group 4 were significantly (P < 0.05) higher compared to other groups. No significant effect (P > 0.05) of treatment on Co, Mg and Cu in blood serum of ewes and lambs except for Cu concentration in ewes. Moreover, a significant increase (P < 0.01) in milk inorganic% (30 and 60 days samples) in ewes from group 2 when compared with other groups. The average milk yield (AMY) of ewes from group 2 and 4 at late stage of lactation (45–60 days) were significantly higher (P < 0.05) compared to groups 1 and 3. In addition, Ca% in colostrums samples from ewes in groups 2 and 4 were significantly higher (P < 0.01). The average daily gain (ADG) and total body gain for lambs up to weaning (60 days old) were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in groups 1 and 2 compared with the other groups. In conclusion, increasing level of Ca intake in feed of Awassi ewes at late gestation, with or without vitamin AD3E injections, improve the calcium concentration in colostrums and blood serum of ewes and their lambs without negative effect in their health and performance.  相似文献

An experiment was performed on 113 heifers born during three successive autumns (1987, 1988, and 1989) and aimed to study the effect of rearing strategy on performances and longevity. From 4–12 mo of age, heifers were grazing (G) or fed indoors with two levels of a corn-silage based diet (CS) with a high (CSH) or low (CSL) level concentrate. Age at first calving was 24 months (AFC24), but, because of seasonal calving management, some animals calved at 36 months of age (AFC36). From 4–12 mo of age, average daily weight gain (ADG) of G, CSL and CSH heifers was 874, 736 and 890 g/d, respectively. G and CSH heifers had the same ADG from 4–12 mo of age, whereas G and CSL heifers had the same ADG from 4 mo of age until puberty. Puberty was detected for 106 heifers, occurring at 269 (SD = ± 28) d of age at a weight of 286 (± 36) kg. On average, CSH heifers were 28 d younger at puberty (P < 0.001). In AFC24 heifers, fertility after one insemination was higher for CS heifers than for G heifers (77 and 55%, respectively). When heifers were adults, it corresponded to 77 and 96%, respectively. During their 1st lactation, AFC24 (G and CSL) heifers tended to have a higher milk peak than CSH heifers (27.3, 28.8 and 24.7 kg/d, respectively). On average, each cow completed 2.64 lactations (range = 0–7), but this parameter varied significantly (P < 0.05): 2.81 (G), 2.67 (CSL), 2.30 (CSH). Productive life was 852 d long, with significant differences between groups (945, 890 and 663 d for G, CSL and CSH groups, respectively). Culling rate during the first four lactations was around 38%. A deleterious effect of an excessive growth rate between 120 and 300 d, corresponding to body weight varying between 150 and 260 kg, was noted. In practice, this indicates that growth rates should be controlled before puberty, but a high growth rate is possible between puberty and first insemination without major problems.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrients in cottonseed meal (CSM) and soybean meal (SBM) in simple carbohydrate and more complex wheat-based diets using 2 indigestible markers and total faecal collection. Twenty-five Large White × Landrace boars (57.8 kg) were randomly allocated to either a pure wheat diet, 40% CSM or SBM in either a sugar-starch- (1:1) or wheat-based diet for 18 d. Acid-insoluble ash (AIA) and chromic oxide (Cr2O3) were included in all diets as indigestible markers. Diets were offered (1,800 g/d per pig) in 3 meals/d from d 1 to 11 and 8 meals/d from d 12 to 17. On d 9, the pigs were moved to individual metabolism cages to allow total faecal collection. On d 18, the pigs were fed hourly for 8 h. After the 8th meal, pigs were anaesthetized and digesta sampled from the terminal ileum and rectum before lethal injection. There were no differences between ATTD of nitrogen (N) determined using AIA as a marker and measured by total faecal collection. On the other hand, the ATTD of N of diets containing CSM in sugar-starch- or wheat-based diets and the pure wheat diet determined using Cr2O3 as a marker was less (−3.11%, −4.46% and −6.59%; P < 0.001) than that measured by total faecal collection. The ATTD of N determined using AIA as a marker was highly correlated with that measured using total faecal collection (P < 0.001; R2 = 0.95). Similarly, the ATTD of N determined using Cr2O3 as a marker was correlated with that measured using total faecal collection, although the correlation was not quite as strong as using AIA (P < 0.001; R2 = 0.87). Also, the slope of the regression line and the intercept were closer to unity and zero for the relationship when the ATTD of N was determined using AIA compared to Cr2O3 as an indigestible marker. The ATTD of organic and dry matter behaved similarly. These data demonstrate that the basal diet and choice of indigestible marker can substantially influence the ATTD and that the use of AIA as an indigestible marker is more suitable than Cr2O3 in digestibility studies in pigs.  相似文献

Calf morbidity and mortality represent major financial losses for many dairy producers. The primary cause of calf mortality in the U.S. is diarrhea caused by intestinal bacterial infections. Traditionally, formulated antibiotics in milk replacer have been used as preventive treatments. However, as consumer concern about antibiotic resistance has increased, interest in alternative supplements has grown. Prebiotics, which are food ingredients not digestible by animal enzymes, and probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria, are two proposed alternatives for antibiotics to reduce diarrhea and improve immunity in calves. In this trial 75 Holstein heifer calves were randomly assigned to one of 3 treatments: control (C; no additive), antibiotic treatment (A; oxytetracycline 0.220 g/kg and neomycin base 0.441 g/kg), and prebiotic supplement (PB; 20 g/day Prebio Support™, Meiji Feed Co., Ltd. Tokyo, Japan). Calf scours, respiratory, and general appearance scores were not affected by treatment. No statistical differences were detected in any of the health data collected; however, treatment C had nearly twice as many calves that scoured and refused feed than treatments A and PB. Populations of beneficial and pathogenic bacteria in feces were generally not affected by treatments. However, PB treatment calves had an overall trend for more Lactobacilli in their feces than calves fed A (= 0.08), and Enterobacter population was greater in C calves than in calves on treatment A in week 4 (< 0.05). There was a tendency for the PB treatment to have elevated populations of beneficial species of bacteria during week 2. Populations of lymphocytes carrying CD4 and CD8 markers were not affected by treatment. Fecal IgA concentration decreased as calf age increased, with the greatest concentration in week 2 (< 0.01) for all calves. Fecal IgA levels were numerically greater for the PB group in weeks 2 and 4. Both PB and A treatments affected fecal parameters with PB having positive effects in several areas. Since calves in this study were generally healthy, observable benefits from the treatments were likely minimized.  相似文献

Holstein heifers were randomly allotted by weight, age and body condition score to one of three treatments to test the hypothesis that GnRH administration concurrent with PGF injection would advance follicle or corpus luteum (CL) development parallel to an induced luteolysis of the pre-existing CL. Heifers in the control group (n = 14) received two treatments of PGF(25 mg, im) given 10 days apart. Groups 2 (n = 14) and 3 (n = 14) received an additional treatment of GnRH (100 μg, im) after the first and second PGF respectively. Estrus detection began immediately after PGF and continued for 80 h. Blood sampling was initiated 7 days prior to the first PGF (day − 7) and continued on days 0, 7, 10 (prior to the second PGF), 17 and 24. Heifers were artificially inseminated after the second PGF and pregnancy diagnosed at 60 days. There was a trend (P < .10) toward a lower estrus response in group 3 when compared to the other groups. Pregnant heifers in group 2 had lower progesterone (0.44 ± 0.09 vs. 1.72 ± 0.56 ng/ml) a week after the second PGF than the non-pregnant animals in that group (P < .05). Similar results were observed in the control group but only within the responding heifers (0.61 ± 0.08 vs. 0.93 ± 0.03 ng/ml; P < .05). Progesterone in heifers in group 2 remained high on day 0, 7, and 10 (1.48 ± 0.37, 1.23 ± 0.39, 1.96 ± 0.36 ng/ml) in spite of the treatment with PGF. This data suggest that administration of GnRH following PGF alters bovine luteal and/or follicular cell function.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to measure the apparent ileal digestibility coefficients (AID) of protein and amino acids from canola meal (CM) and a pelleted canola meal (PCM) and their effect on specific activity (SA) of pancreatic proteases in weaned piglets and growing pigs. In experiment one, 24 piglets weaned at 17 days and weighing 5.5 kg were used. Treatments were a reference diet with 200 g of crude protein (CP) kg− 1 elaborated with casein (C) as the sole protein source, a diet containing C–CM and a diet containing C–PCM. These diets were obtained using the reference diet plus 100 g kg− 1 of CM or PCM that substituted an isoproteic mixture of casein and maize starch from reference diet, so that the AID coefficients for their protein and amino acids could be calculated by difference. In experiment two, nine castrated pigs weighing 39.5 kg were used. Treatments were a reference diet with 160 g of CP kg− 1 elaborated with casein (C) as the sole protein source, diet C–CM and diet C–PCM. These diets were obtained using the reference diet plus 300 g kg− 1 of CM or PCM that substituted an isoproteic mixture of casein and maize starch from reference diet. In piglets, the AID coefficients for casein were highest (P < 0.05), those of PCM were intermediate, and those of CM were the lowest. In older pigs, the AID coefficients for casein were highest, and those of CM and PCM were similar (P > 0.05). The SAs of chymotrypsin, trypsin and carboxypeptidases A and B were lower in piglets than in heavier pigs. Moreover, the SAs of trypsin, chymotrypsin, and carboxypeptidase B were lower (P > 0.05) in animals fed casein. The results showed in piglets that whereas CM was less digestible, pelleted canola meal improved protein and amino acid ileal digestibility, resulting in similar AID coefficients to those of growing pigs.  相似文献

Guar meal, sunflower meal, rapeseed cake, peas, maize, rye, wheat and barley were subjected to expander treatment at different temperatures (95–150 °C), and effect on amino acid availability was assessed using rumen nylon bag and mobile bagin situ methods. Expander treatment of rapeseed cake at 142 °C decreased feed lysine content, probably due to formation of complex compounds. Effective rumen degradability and total tract digestibility of protein, total amino acids, lysine, methionine, threonine, isoleucine, leucine, valine, and phenylalanine were compared to values for the untreated feeds. Effective rumen degradability seemed to decrease due to expander treatment for all cereals, except maize. Effective rumen degradability for sunflower meal and rapeseed cake was unaffected by expander treatment at 115 °C, whereas expander treatment at 142 °C appeared to decreased effective rumen degradability for rapeseed meal. Total amino acid digestibility was not decreased by expander treatment. Both for untreated and heat treated feeds rumen degradability and total tract digestibility of individual amino acids were generally in agreement with results for crude protein. Observed amino acid profiles supplied by digestible rumen undegraded feed amino acids were compared to a theoretical optimal profile obtained from the literature using a χ2-index. A low index is equivalent to a high biological value. Smallest and largest index for the difference between the observed and theoretical optimal amino acid profile were obtained for peas and maize, respectively. Lysine was the first limiting amino acid for cereals, sunflower meal, expander treated (142 °C) rapeseed cake and untreated guar meal, leucine for untreated and expander treated (115 °C) rapeseed cake, and methionine for peas and expander treated guar meal. It was concluded that based on the assumed ideal amino acid profile, expander treatment only changed the first limiting amino acid for rapeseed cake and guar meal, and that although expander treatment decreased the index, and thereby improved the biological value of the intestinally digested feed amino acids, the ranking of feeds based on the index was unaffected by expander treatment.  相似文献
