A total of 163 pigs from nine farrow-to-finish herds representing various levels of atrophic rhinitis (AR) were selected for postslaughter examination of AR and pneumonia. Nasal swabs and lungs were cultured for detection of Bordetella bronchiseptica and Pasteurella multocida. Seventy-three pigs were examined at eight weeks of age and 90 contemporaries at six months of age. Mean AR scores were 1.21 and 1.11 for the eight week and six month old pigs, respectively (0 = normal, 3 = severe). In individual pigs increasing AR score was related to increasing pneumonia score in eight week old pigs but not in six month old hogs. In eight week old pigs, B. bronchiseptica and P. multocida were isolated more frequently from pigs with higher AR scores. From nasal swabs of six month old hogs, Bordetella was almost never recovered while Pasteurella was frequently isolated score. Toxigenic type DP. multocida was isolated from nasal cultures of only seven (4%) pigs and from lung cultures of only one pig. Pasteurella was never isolated from lungs of the eight week old pigs and Bordetella never from the six month old hogs. The isolation rate of P. multocida, predominantly type A, from lungs of six month old pigs increased from 11% in grossly normal lungs to 86% in lungs with severe pneumonia. Pigs from one herd free from lesions of AR and pneumonia were also examined; type AP. multocida was isolated from nasal cultures of one of six eight week old pigs. Somatic antigens of P. multocida were determined for 94 nasal and 20 lung isolates. 选择体重(33±2)kg的DLY猪20头,随机分成4组,每组5头,分别以0、3、9、27μg/kgBW的剂量每日肌肉注射GHRP-228d。在试验的第3周进行4d的代谢试验;在第4周末测量活体背膘和眼肌厚度。结果表明:在第1周末随着剂量的增加,猪的日增重在处理组较对照组分别提高了10.51%、12.06%、16.21%(P<0.05);28d的平均日增重在处理组分别提高了4.5%、1.27%、8.99%(p<0.05)。饲料氮在第3周的消化率各组分别为82.92%、81.29%、82.3%、85.15%;代谢率52.59%6、51.8%、53.20%、56.67%。GHRP-2处理组有减少背膘和增加眼肌厚度的趋势。在试验条件下,以27μg/kgBW的剂量每日肌肉注射GHRP-22周可显著提高生长猪日增重,采食量在整个试验期处理组间无差异;连续处理的第3周出现生长抑制现象,其机理有待于进一步研究。  相似文献

Two feeding studies were conducted to examine the impact of dietary inclusion of specific feed ingredients on manure characteristics and manure odor. In one study, 72 finishing pigs were used to evaluate the effects of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) on pig performance, manure characteristics, and odorous emissions. Three diets containing 0, 5, and 10% DDGS were fed during six 4-wk feeding periods. Week 1 served as a dietary adjustment period. Animals were housed in two feeding rooms (six pigs/room) with one treatment/room. A new group of animals (average initial BW = 85.8 kg) was used for each feeding period. Diets were replicated four times. Rooms were equipped with individual shallow manure storage pits that were cleaned once weekly (d 7). On d 4 and 7 of each week, manure pit samples, for chemical analyses, and air samples, for olfactometry analysis, were collected from each room. Odor dilution threshold was greater on d 7 than on d 4 of manure storage across all treatments (P < 0.01). No treatment differences in manure composition were noted. In the second study, weaned pigs (approximately 5 wk old) were fed isonitrogenous diets containing 0, 1.5, or 3% bloodmeal. Pigs were housed by diet (three pigs/diet) in one of four individual feeding rooms. A new group of pigs was used for each of the two, 4-wk feeding periods. During period 1, the 3% bloodmeal diet was fed in two of the four rooms; the 0% bloodmeal diet was fed in two rooms during period 2. Manure samples, for chemical analyses, and air samples, for olfactometry analysis, were collected 2 d per week (d 4 and d 6) from each room during wk 2 through 4. No significant treatment differences were observed for odor dilution threshold (P = 0.30). Longer manure storage time, 6 d vs 4 d, resulted in a larger odor dilution ratio (P < 0.01). Manure composition was unaltered by storage time. Results suggest that odor intensifies during storage.  相似文献

A method for bronchoalveolar lavage in live pigs   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In order to isolate porcine alveolar macrophages and to quantitatively study the components of recovered lung fluid, a bronchoalveolar lavage technique in living pigs was developed. Lung lavage was performed after introducing a catheter through the mouth via the trachea in the diaphragmatical lobe. Thirty ml of phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) was introduced into the lung and the fluid was aspirated after one minute. Following this, another 15 ml of PBS was introduced into the lung and aspirated after one minute. The recovered volume of the second lavage averaged 15 ml (+/- 0.4 S.E.M.). Cells thus obtained from specific-pathogen-free (SPF) pigs were composed of 98% macrophages. Lavage fluids from conventionally bred pigs contained 67% macrophages, 17% neutrophilic granulocytes and about 16% lymphocytes, demonstrated by their morphology and acid phosphatase activity. The viability of the recovered cells was over 98% in both SPF and conventionally bred pigs. The dilution of the aspirated lung liquid was determined by using methylene blue in the introduced fluid. The calculated dilution factor of the recovered lavage fluid was 0.58 (S.E.M. 0.02). No influence was noticed on the number or composition of cells nor on the dilution factor when lung lavage was done in SPF pigs twice a week during a four week period. The protein concentration in lavage fluid from SPF pigs was 142 (SD +/- 26) mcg/ml. In conventionally bred pigs, however, a wide variation (276 +/- 229 mcg/ml) in protein content was noted. Lavage fluid supernatant of some animals had a bactericidal effect on Haemophilus pleuropneumoniae strain 13261, whereas no bactericidal effect was noted in other lavage samples.  相似文献

An experiment involving a total of 1,320 crossbred pigs was conducted at 3 universities to assess the effects of various levels of lactose in diets during phase 3 (wk 3 and 4 postweaning) of a 4-phase starter program. Pigs were weaned at 15 to 20 d (6.2-kg initial BW) and allotted to 5 treatments. All pigs were fed a complex phase 1 diet (20% lactose) the first week postweaning followed by a complex phase 2 diet (15% lactose) the second week postweaning. Phase 3 diets containing 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, or 10.0% lactose were fed for wk 3 and 4, and then a common, corn-soybean meal diet was fed for an additional 1 to 2 wk (phase 4). The source of lactose was Dairylac 80, which contains 80% lactose. The phase 1, 2, and 3 diets were prepared at one site. Pigs were weighed, and feed intake was determined at weekly intervals. There were 8 replications at each station for a total of 24 replications per treatment with 5 or 23 pigs per pen. As expected, ADG, DFI, and G:F were not affected (P = 0.10) during the initial 2-wk period when all pigs received the same diet. During wk 3 and 4 (phase 3) when the 5 levels of lactose were fed, ADG and ADFI increased linearly (P < 0.01) with increasing levels of lactose, but G:F was not affected (P = 0.10). Although the quadratic component was not significant, ADG and ADFI reached a numerical plateau at the 7.5% inclusion level of lactose during phase 3. Compared with pigs fed the diet without lactose, the 7.5% level of lactose resulted in 350 g of additional BW gain coupled with 420 g of additional feed consumed per pig during phase 3, and most of the additional BW gain (294 g) was maintained through the end of the 5- to 6-wk study. These results suggest that pigs respond to dietary lactose during the mid to latter phase of the nursery period and that the response was obtained under different management and facility conditions.  相似文献

Factors affecting mortality in finishing pigs   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Two groups of finishing pigs at a test station were studied to test the effect of initial weight, weight change in the 1st week, age, breed, and distance the pig was transported on mortality. Total mortality was 5.3% in 1 group and 6.3% in the other group. Specific causes of death were pneumonia (24.7%), gastric ulceration (14.0%), enteritis (6.4%), trauma (4.3%), gastrointestinal displacement (4.3%), rectal stricture (3.2%), porcine stress syndrome (3.2%), and brain abscess (2.2%). Other categories for cause of death were miscellaneous (6.5%), and undiagnosed (31.2%). More pigs died in the last 6 weeks of the 18-week finishing period than in the 1st 6 weeks (P less than 0.05). Death rates were not significantly different between pigs that lost weight and pigs that maintained or gained weight during the 1st week after arrival at the test station. The mean transportation distance to the test station was not significantly different between pigs that died and pigs that survived. Transportation distance was not correlated with mean daily gain. The death rate was significantly (P less than 0.03) higher for Yorkshire pigs than for crossbred, Poland China, Hampshire, and Duroc pigs, and it was significantly (P less than 0.01) higher for Berkshire, Spot, and Chester White pigs than for Hampshire and Duroc pigs.  相似文献

Two 4-wk trials (preliminary study) and three 5-wk trials (major study) were conducted to determine the effects of adding Yucca schidigera extract or anhydrous calcium chloride to nursery diets on the growth performance of nursery pigs and aerial ammonia concentration. The pigs were weaned between 13 and 15 d of age and had an initial BW of 3 to 6 kg. In each trial, pigs were allotted to three identical pig nursery rooms that were environmentally regulated. There were three diets (one diet per room): 1) control, containing 23% CP; 2) control plus 125 ppm of Yucca schidigera extract; and 3) control plus 1.95% anhydrous calcium chloride. Growth performance was recorded weekly. Aerial ammonia concentration was measured daily using aspiration detector tubes and during the last week of each trial using diffusion tubes. Manure samples were collected twice a week during the experimental period to determine ammonia and N concentrations and pH. Plasma urea concentration was determined in blood samples collected from the pigs at the end of each trial. Data were analyzed using split-plot and Latin square designs for the preliminary and major studies, respectively. Feed intake was similar among pigs fed all three diets. There were no differences in ADG and ADG/ADFI (G/F) between pigs fed the control diet and pigs fed the yucca extract diet (P > or = 0.41). In all trials, pigs fed the calcium chloride diet had lower ADG and G/F than pigs fed the other two diets (P < 0.05). In the preliminary study, aerial ammonia tended to be greater in the rooms in which pigs were fed the control diet than in the rooms with pigs fed the yucca extract diet (P = 0.08) and the calcium chloride diet (P = 0.11). In the major study, aerial ammonia increased weekly (diet x week; P < 0.001) in all rooms. In the 4th wk, ammonia concentrations were greater (P < 0.001) in the rooms in which pigs were fed the control diet than in the rooms in which the other two diets were fed. Dietary treatment had no effect on plasma urea concentration (P > or = 0.10), manure ammonia and N concentrations (P > or = 0.50), and manure pH (P > or = 0.78). Although aerial ammonia concentrations were relatively low, the addition of Yucca schidigera extract or calcium chloride to the diet of nursery pigs reduced ammonia concentrations in the nursery rooms.  相似文献

Virus subpopulations with variable virulence, immunogenicity, and infectivity to pigs were readily generated by passaging Tengani isolate of African swine fever virus, either biologically cloned or uncloned, in Vero cell cultures. Avirulent virus populations which account for more than 99% of virus in an uncloned preparation of the 27th passage are laboratory artefacts, perhaps do not exist in nature. Furthermore, attenuation of virulence did not occur uniformly in all subpopulations newly generated, and a continuous modulation of virus populations differing in immunogenicity and virulence took place in the same individuals inoculated with the 27th passage virus. The same virus preparation, appearing to be slightly virulent in pigs, contained at least a virulent subpopulation that was manifested only by further inoculating susceptible pigs with viremic blood collected at various times during the clinical course. A cloned virus after 23 passages in cell cultures generated a subpopulation (99.9%) which induced subclinical infection in pigs; however, the infection did not confer a solid immunity to homologous challenge with Tengani isolate in these pigs. The Tengani isolate contained subpopulations of virus with immunogenicities shared by the Lisbon '60 isolate and also contained at least one subpopulation specific for the Tengani only.  相似文献

Two experiments, each consisting of 2 trials, were conducted to determine the effect of salmon protein hydrolysate (SPH) and spray-dried plasma protein (SDPP) fed during the first week postweaning and their subsequent effect on the growth performance of weanling pigs. Pigs were fed in a 3-phase feeding program with durations of 7 d for phase 1 in both Exp. 1 and 2; 14 or 15 d for phase 2 in Exp. 1 and 2, respectively; and 7 or 8 d for phase 3 in Exp. 1 and 2, respectively. Dietary treatments were fed only during phase 1, whereas the same diet was fed to all pigs in phases 2 and 3. Pigs were blocked by initial BW and sex, and littermates were balanced across treatments. Data from the 2 trials within each experiment were combined and analyzed together; no treatment × trial interactions (P > 0.10) were observed. In Exp. 1, a total of 324 weanling pigs (10 replications of 5 or 6 pigs per pen) with an average initial BW of 6.4 ± 1.3 kg were assigned to 1) a control diet with no SPH or SDPP, 2) 1.5% SPH, 3) 3.0% SPH, 4) 1.5% SDPP, 5) 3.0% SDPP, or 6) 1.5% SPH + 1.5% SDPP. Experiment 2 was similar to Exp. 1, but red blood cells were removed from all diets to reduce diet complexity. In Exp. 2, weanling pigs (n = 320, 14 replications of 5 or 6 pigs per pen) with an average initial BW of 5.4 ± 1.2 kg were assigned to 1) a control diet with no SPH or SDPP, 2) 1.5% SPH, 3) 1.5% SDPP, or 4) 1.5% SPH + 1.5% SDPP. Three batches of SPH were used, and each batch was analyzed for AA composition. In Exp. 1, the inclusion of SDPP or SPH during phase 1 did not affect (P > 0.10) ADG, ADFI, or G:F compared with those of pigs fed the control diet. No carryover effects on growth performance were observed in any of the subsequent phases. Overall, G:F was greater (P = 0.08) in pigs fed the 1.5% diets compared with those fed the 3.0% diets. In Exp. 2, no differences (P > 0.10) were observed in ADG, ADFI, or G:F among pigs fed the SPH or SDPP diets compared with those of pigs fed the control diet. Pigs fed the combined diet had greater (P < 0.10) overall ADFI compared with that of pigs fed the control diet, but ADFI was similar to that of pigs fed the SPH and SDPP diets. These results indicate that inclusion of up to 3% SDPP or SPH in diets fed during the first week postweaning did not affect the growth performance of weanling pigs, and no subsequent carryover effects were observed. Salmon protein hydrolysate did not affect the growth performance of weanling pigs and may be considered an alternative protein source in diets for weanling pigs.  相似文献

A genetically modified corn hybrid homozygous for the lpa1 allele, containing low phytate (LP), and its nearly isogenic equivalent hybrid (normal) were compared in two experiments with growing-finishing swine. In Exp. 1, 210 barrows (27 kg) were allotted to one of six dietary treatments with two corn hybrids (LP and normal) and three P feeding regimens. There were five replicate pens (seven pigs/pen) per treatment. Treatments consisted of diets that were supplemented with P throughout the growing-finishing period (.2% P and .15% supplemental P during growing and finishing phases, respectively) or only during the growing phase (.2% supplemental P) or that were not supplemented with P throughout the growing-finishing period. Performance at the end of the growing phase was based on a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatments with two corn hybrids and two levels of added P (0 and .2%). This resulted in 10 replicates for the treatments supplemented with .2% P. The finishing phase (73 to 112 kg) was a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement of treatments with the two types of corn and three regimens of added P during the finishing period. Breaking load (BL) and ash of the fourth metacarpal were evaluated from one pig/pen at the end of the growing phase and from all pigs after slaughter. Pigs fed the LP corn diet without added P had greater body weight gain, feed efficiency, BL, and ash content of the fourth metacarpal than pigs fed the normal corn diet without added P. Performance was similar between pigs fed the LP diet without added P and pigs fed LP and normal corn with added P. In Exp. 2, 1,092 gilts (34 kg body weight) were allotted by weight in a commercial facility to one of three treatments: 1) normal corn/soybean meal diet containing .29% and .22% available P during the growing and finishing phases, respectively; 2) LP corn/soybean meal diet with the same available P level as Treatment 1; and 3) same as Treatment 2 for 8 wk, then no inorganic P supplementation during the finishing phase. All pigs were slaughtered at approximately 122 kg. There were no significant differences in growing-finishing performance or BL among treatments. However, pigs fed diets containing LP corn possessed carcasses with less backfat and a higher percentage of lean (P < .01). These results confirm that the P in LP corn is available to the pig and suggest that pigs fed diets containing this genetically modified corn will have more desirable carcasses.  相似文献

In ten experiments, 53 castrated male 4- to 8-week-old weanling pigs were given adriamycin (ADR) IV at mean dosages of 0.64, 1.0, 1.6, 3.2, or 6.4 mg/kg/week at various frequencies for up to 20 weeks. Mortalities in pigs given these dosages were 0% after 112 days, 100% after 134 days (survival time was 48 to 134 days), 91% after 75 days (survival time was 5 to 75 days), 100% after 28 days (survival time was 23 to 28 days), and 100% after 14 days (survival time was 10 to 14 days), respectively. Survival time was prolonged in younger pigs and in pigs given smaller but more frequent dosages of ADR. Characteristic gross and histopathologic alterations of ADR toxicosis were observed in pigs given 1.0, 1.6, 3.2, or 6.4 mg/kg/week mean dosages. The most frequent lesions were in the alimentary tract, myeloid and lymphoid tissues, skin, and perivascular tissues at injection sites. Alimentary tract lesions were mucosal epithelial atrophy, with secondary fibrinonecrotic inflammation in the oral cavity and large intestine. Marked hypoplasia was seen in bone marrow and lymphoid tissues, with frequent terminal hemorrhagic diathesis and septicemia. Several days before death, the pigs developed severe dermatitis over the ventral portion of the abdomen and inner surfaces of the limbs. Perivascular necrosis and cellulitis produced by extravasation of ADR was a frequent complication of treatment. Terminal severe acute pneumonia occurred in most pigs. Pericarditis or cardiomyopathy (or both) developed in 14 pigs, given 0.64, 1.0, or 1.6 mg/kg each week (mean cumulative dosage 520.5 mg/m2 of body surface). Characteristic histopathologic and ultrastructural alterations in affected cardiac muscle cells were vacuolar degeneration, myocytolysis, and hyaline necrosis. Nephrotoxicosis also was in pigs with chronic ADR toxicosis. Systemic antibiotic treatment did not prolong survival of ADR-treated pigs in two experiments, but did in one other experiment.  相似文献

The pharmacokinetics of marbofloxacin in pigs were evaluated as a function of dose and animal age following intravenous and intramuscular administration of a 16% solution (Forcyl®). The absolute bioavailability of marbofloxacin as well as the dose proportionality was evaluated in 27‐week‐old fattening pigs. Blood PK and urinary excretion of marbofloxacin were evaluated after a single intramuscular dose of 8 mg/kg in 16‐week‐old male pigs. An additional group of 12‐week‐old weaned piglets was used for the evaluation of age‐related kinetics. The plasma and urine concentration of marbofloxacin was determined using a HPLC method. Pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated using noncompartmental methods. After intravenous administration in 27‐week‐old fattening pigs, the total body clearance was 0.065 L/h·kg. After intramuscular administration to the same animals, the mean observed Cmax was 6.30 μg/mL, and the AUCINF was 115 μg·h/mL. The absolute bioavailability was 91.5%, and dose proportionality was shown within the dose range of 4–16 mg/kg. The renal clearance was about half of the value of the total clearance. The total systemic clearance values significantly decreased as a function of age, being 0.092 L/h·kg and 0.079 L/h·kg in pigs aged 12 and 16 weeks, respectively.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of ractopamine (RAC) on the behavior and physiology of pigs during handling and transport. Twenty-four groups of three gilts were randomly assigned to one of two treatments 4 wk before slaughter: finishing feed plus RAC (10 ppm) or finishing feed alone. Pigs were housed in the same building in adjacent pens with fully slatted floors and ad libitum access to feed and water. Behavioral time budgets were determined in six pens per treatment over a single 24-h period during each week. Behavioral responses of these pigs to routine handling and weighing were determined at the start of the trial and at the end of each week. Heart-rate responses to unfamiliar human presence were measured in all pigs and blood samples were taken from a single pig in each pen on different days during wk 4. At the end of wk 4, all pigs were transported for 22 min to processing. Heart rate was recorded from at least one pig per pen during transport and a postmortem blood sample was taken from those pigs that were previously sampled. During wk 1 and 2, RAC pigs spent more time active (P < 0.05), more time alert (P < 0.05), and less time lying in lateral recumbency (P < 0.05). They also spent more time at the feeder in wk 1 (P < 0.05). At the start of the trial, there were no differences in behavioral responses to handling. However, over each of the next 4 wk, fewer RAC pigs exited the home pen voluntarily, they took longer to remove from the home pen, longer to handle into the weighing scale and needed more pats, slaps, and pushes from the handler to enter the scales. At the end of wk 4, RAC pigs had higher heart rates in the presence of an unfamiliar human (P < 0.05) and during transport (P < 0.05), but not during loading and unloading. Also at the end of wk 4, RAC pigs had higher circulating catecholamine concentrations (P < 0.05) than control pigs. Circulating cortisol concentrations and cortisol responses to transport did not differ between treatments. The results show that ractopamine affected behavior, heart rate, and catecholamine profile of finishing pigs and made them more difficult to handle and potentially more susceptible to handling and transport stress.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to elucidate the nitrogen (N) balance of pigs exhibiting compensatory growth when changing the dietary lysine levels from deficiency to sufficiency. Experiment 1 elucidated whether pigs exhibited compensatory growth with dietary lysine sufficiency. Twenty 6‐week‐old males were assigned to one of two treatments: control and LC (lysine and control). Control pigs were fed a control diet throughout the 24‐day experimental period, whereas LC pigs were fed a low lysine diet until day 21 of the experiment, followed by the control diet until the end of experiment. The dietary lysine sufficiency treatment induced an 80% increase in the growth rate of LC pigs (P < 0.05). Experiment 2 focused on the N balance of pigs that exhibited compensatory growth with dietary lysine sufficiency. Eighteen 6‐week‐old males were assigned to one of three treatments: control, LC, and LL (low lysine). LL pigs were fed a low lysine diet throughout the 24‐day experimental period. Pigs that exhibited compensatory growth with dietary lysine sufficiency tended to retain a higher amount of N than control pigs (P = 0.10). These finding suggest that the compensatory growth induced in pigs by dietary lysine sufficiency was partly attributable to a higher level of N retention.  相似文献

To determine growth performance during and after injection of recombinant porcine somatotropin (rpSt), crossbred Yorkshire gilts and barrows (n = 54/gender, 27 to 42 kg BW) were blocked by BW and gender (n = 3 blocks/gender). Within each block, three pigs/gender were assigned randomly to each of six pens/block. A diet containing 24.8% CP was fed ad libitum. During the live weight period of 30 to 110 kg, pigs either remained as controls (one pen/block) or were injected (i.m.) daily with rpSt (120 micrograms/kg BW) during either 30 to 60, 30 to 100, 30 to 110, 60 to 100 or 60 to 110 kg BW. Thus, three gilts and three barrows in each of three pens received each treatment. Pigs were slaughtered at either 60 kg BW (1 d after rpSt injection) or 110 kg BW (1 d, 10 d or 70 d after rpSt injection). Relative to controls, pigs injected with rpSt exhibited faster and more efficient growth during the injection period (P less than .05) but slower and less efficient growth during 10 d after cessation of injection (P less than .05). Carcasses of pigs slaughtered 1 d or 10 d after rpSt injection were leaner than controls (P less than .05), but among the pigs treated with rpSt, carcasses of pigs withdrawn from rpSt for 10 d contained more fat (P less than .05) and had a lower percentage of muscle (P less than .05) than carcasses of pigs withdrawn from rpSt for 1 d. An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of feeding regimen and group size on nutrient (N, Lipid, Ca, P) balance measurements with weanling swine. Treatments imposed were 1) one pig pair-fed to 90% of treatment 3, 2) three pigs pair-fed to 90% of treatment 3 and 3) three pigs with ad libitum access to their diet. A total of 28 barrows weaned at 21 d of age (initial BW 5.9 kg) were allotted by weight and litter in a randomized complete block design with repeated measurements over time to the three treatments in four replicates. The pigs were placed in .6-m x 1.13-m stainless steel metabolism crates and fed the same experimental diet for an initial 4-d adjustment period. This was followed by a 5-d collection of urine and feces with a 2-d interval between collection periods each week of a 4-wk postweaning period. When feed was restricted, N intake, urine N, fecal N and retained N were similar whether pigs were fed as singles or in groups of three. Individually fed pigs had a higher urinary Ca but lower urinary P compared with those fed in groups of three. Lipid and P retention values were similar for individual and group-penned, restricted-fed animals. Pigs provided ad libitum access to feed had greater weight gains and nutrient intakes, excretions (urine, fecal) and retentions (P less than .01) than pigs that were limit-fed. Similar responses among treatments occurred each week of the 4-wk trial. These results suggest that effective weekly balance data can be collected each week sequentially with 21-d weanling pigs penned in groups and allowed to consume feed ad libitum, a situation more similar to natural nursery conditions.  相似文献

A total of 64 weanling pigs was used in a randomized complete-block experiment to evaluate the efficacy of various inorganic Se levels on weekly Se balance measurements over a 5-wk post-weaning period. Four-week-old weaned pigs were fed a 20% protein, corn-soybean meal diet supplemented with 0, .3, .5 or 1.0 ppm Se from sodium selenite. Eight pigs were allotted by weight, litter and sex to each metabolism crate. A 2-d preliminary period followed by a 5-d collection period was conducted for five weekly periods. Feed intake was provided ad libitum but was similar between dietary Se levels. Fecal Se excretion increased each week and with increasing dietary Se level. Apparent digestibility of Se was relatively constant for each period when inorganic Se was fed, averaging approximately 70%, whereas it ranged between 30 to 40% for pigs fed the basal diet during wk 2 through 5. Urinary Se decreased during the postweaning periods for pigs fed the basal diet, but increased linearly as dietary Se increased during the initial 2-wk postweaning period and then quadratically during wk 3 through 5. There was a net loss of Se from the body when the Se-unsupplemented basal diet was fed during the initial 2 wk postweaning, whereupon, it became positive. Selenium retention in pigs supplemented with inorganic Se increased each week of the trial. When Se retention was expressed in relation to Se intake, the resulting regression was linear (R2 = .99), suggesting that Se retention in the postweaning pig increased in direct proportion to the amount consumed when diets contained up to 1.0 ppm Se.  相似文献

A 12‐week trial with 120 [(Landrace×Yorkshire)×Duroc] pigs (45.65 ± 1.93 kg) was conducted to evaluate the effects of Astragalus membranaceus, Codonopsis pilosula and allicin mixture (HM) supplementation on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, faecal microbial shedding, immune response and meat quality in finishing pigs. Pigs were allocated to one of three treatments with 0, 0.025% (HM1) and 0.05% (HM2) HM supplementation in a randomized complete block design according to sex and BW. Each treatment contained 10 replications with four pigs (two barrows and two gilts) per pen. Dietary HM resulted in a higher G:F (p < 0.05) than CON group during weeks 7 to 12 and the overall periods. Pigs fed HM2 diet had higher ADG than pigs fed CON diet. Pigs fed HM2 supplementation diet led to a higher (p < 0.05) apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of dry matter (DM) and gross energy (GE) than pigs fed CON diet at week 6, while the supplementation of HM led to a higher (p < 0.05) ATTD of DM and GE than pigs fed CON diet at week 12. The faecal E. coli counts were reduced, and Lactobacillus counts were increased by increasing HM supplementation (p < 0.05). Pigs fed HM1 diet had higher (p < 0.05) WBC concentration than those fed CON and HM2 diets at week 6. Pigs fed HM‐supplemented diet had higher (p < 0.05) IgG and IgA concentrations than those fed CON diet at week 12. Pigs fed HM diet noted better (p < 0.05) meat colour and redness value than pigs fed CON diet. Pig fed HM2 reduced (p < 0.05) the lightness value compared with CON group. In conclusion, dietary HM supplementation exerted beneficial effects on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, intestinal microbial balance (increased Lactobacillus counts and decreased E. coli counts), immune response and meat quality.  相似文献

The effects of weaning, week postweaning and diet composition on concentration of lipase in the pancreas and small intestinal lumen were investigated in weanling swine. In Exp. 1, lipase levels were evaluated in suckling pigs from 2 to 35 d of age and in pigs weaned at 21 or 35 d of age. Pigs weaned at 21 d of age were fed a corn-soybean meal diet with lipase levels measured from 3 to 28 d postweaning. Pancreas weights increased during the suckling period; they were lowered at 3 d postweaning and were lower at 7 d postweaning than in suckling pigs but increased linearly from 3 to 28 d postweaning. Lipase level per unit wet tissue and total pancreatic levels increased from 2 to 35 d of age in suckling pigs (P less than .01). Weaning at 21 d of age resulted in a decline (P less than .05) in lipase levels in the pancreas at 3 and 7 d postweaning, but the levels subsequently tended to increase between 7 and 28 d postweaning. Whereas relative lipase levels in the intestinal lumen increased from 2 to 35 d of age in suckling pigs, total luminal enzyme did not decline upon weaning when pigs were weaned at either 21 or 35 d of age. Total luminal lipase per unit empty body increased linearly (P less than .01) each week postweaning. In Exp. 2, a 2 X 2 factorial arrangement of corn oil (0 or 6%) and dried whey (0 or 25%) was used to evaluate digestive lipase levels in pigs weaned at 21 d of age.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
