A 60-day pot experiment was carried out using di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) as a typical organic pollutant phthalic ester and cowpea (Vigna sinensis) as the host plant to determine the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal inoculation on plant growth and degradation of DEHP in two contaminated soils, a yellow-brown soil and a red soil. The air-dried soils were uniformly sprayed with different concentrations of DEHP, inoculated or left uninoculated with an arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus, and planted with cowpea seeds. After 60 days the positive impact of AM inoculation on the growth of cowpea was more pronounced in the red soil than in the yellow-brown soil, with significantly higher (P < 0.01) mycorrhizal colonization rate, shoot dry weight and total P content in shoot tissues for the red soil. Both in the yellow-brown and red soils, AM inoculation significantly (P < 0.01) reduced shoot DEHP content, implying that AM inoculation could inhibit the uptake and translocation of DEHP from roots to the aboveground parts. However, with AM inoculation no positive contribution to the degradation of DEHP was found.  相似文献

A 40-day gnotobiotic microcosm experiment was carried out to quantify the effect of bacterial-feeding nematode on plat growth and nutrient absorption. The results showed that inoculation of bacterial-feeding nematode Protorhabditis sp.stimulated the growth of wheat (Triticum aestivum) and the uptake of N.By the end of the 40-day incubation wheat biomass and N uptake in the treatment with nematode and bacteria (Pseudomonas sp.)increased by 6.5% and 5.9%,respectively,compared with bacteria alone treatment. The presence of nematode mainly accelerated the growth of aboveground of wheat, while it slightly inhibited the root development. There was little difference in plant tissue N concentration between treatments.P concentration and uptake of wheat, however, were generally reduced by nematode, It appears that the enhancement of plant growth and nitrogen uptake is attributed to the enhancement of nitrogen mineraliztion induced by nematode feeding on bacteria, and the reduction of phosphorous uptake is the result of ewak root status and comptetition by bacteria immobilzation.  相似文献

A 45-day greenhouse experiment was carried out to determine effect of vesicular-arbuscular(VA)my-corrhizal fungi on colonization rate, plant height, plant growth, hyphae lenth, total Al in the plants,ex-changeable Al in the soil and soil pH by comparison at soil pH 3.5,4.5 and 6.0 Plant mung bean(Phaseolus radiatus L.)and crotalaria(Crotalaria muronata Desv.) were grown with and without VA mycorrhizal fungi in pots with red soil,Ten VA mycorrhizal fungi strains were tested, including Glomus epigaeum(No.90001),Glomus caledonium(No.90036),Glomus mosseae(No.90107),Acaulospora soo.(No.34),Scutellopora het-erogama(No.36),Scutellospora calopsora(No.37),Glomus manihotis(No.38).Gigaspora spp.(No.47),Glomus manihotis(No.49),and Acaulospora spp.(No.53).Being the most tolerant to acidity, strain 34 and strain 38 showed quicker and higher-rated colnization without lagging, three to four times more in number of nodules, two to four times more in plant dry weighy,30% to 60% more in hyphae length, lower soil exchaneable Al,and higher soil pH than without VA mycorrhizal fungi(CK).Other strains also could improve plant growth and enhance plant tolerance to acidity, but their effects were not marked. This indicated that VA mycorrhizal fungi differed in the tolerance to soil acidity and so did their inoculation effects. In the experiment, acidic soil could be remedied by inoculation of promising VA mycorrhizal fungi tolerant of acidity.  相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the action mechanisms of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi in phosphorus (P) uptake of Capsicum annuum L.in a sterilized fossil Oxisol.Three P levels of 0,10 and 200 mg kg-1 soil (P0,P10 and P200,respectively) without and with AM fungal inoculation were applied as Ca(H2PO4)2·H2O.Shoot dry matter yields and shoot P uptake increased significantly (P > 0.05) by the inoculation of AM fungi at P0 and P10.Root length and P concentration in soil solution increased with the inoculation of AM fungi but the root:shoot ratio decreased or remained constant.Around 50% roots of inoculated plants were infected by AM and the external hyphae amounted to 20 m g-1 soil at P10 and P200.The hyphae surface area of the infected root cylinder amounted to 11 and 2 cm-2 cm-2 root at P0 and P10,respectively.The increased P uptake of inoculated plants was mainly because of an up to 5 times higher P influx of the infected root.Model calculations showed that the root alone could not have achieved the measured P influx in both infected and non-infected roots. But the P influx for hyphae calculated by the model was even much higher than the measured one.The P uptake capacity of hyphae introduced in the model was too high.Model calculations further showed that the depletion zone around roots or hyphae was very narrow. In the case of the root only 7% of the soil volume would contribute P to the plant, while in the case of hyphae it would be 100%.The results together with the model calculations showed that the increased P uptake of AM inoculated plants could be explained partly by the increased P concentration in the soil solution and by the increased P absorbing surface area coming from the external hyphae.  相似文献

The majority of terrestrial plants form some type of mycorrhizal symbiosis. This established symbiosis therefore exists in most commercially important crops, which includes cotton.Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus(AMF) can colonise 50%–90% of cotton root length under field and controlled conditions.Mycorrhization improves growth and nutrient uptake(especially phosphorus) of cotton, particularly at the early growth stages.Mycorrhizal symbioses help plants to counter the stresses imposed by physical and chemical soil constraints; however, adverse environmental conditions may restrict the mycorrhizal associations and consequently may reduce nutrient uptake and impair plant growth. In Australia, cotton is mainly grown on sodic soils that contain more than 6% of the total cations as exchangeable sodium.High levels of sodium in the soil create adverse physical and chemical soil conditions that may negatively affect mycorrhizal symbioses of cotton. This review discusses the cotton mycorrhizal colonisation, plant growth, and disease protection effects, potential negative effects of physical and chemical properties of sodic soils, and influences of some agronomic management practices. In addition, the research gaps were identified and some practical applications of the research outcomes were suggested.  相似文献

A pot experiment was carried out to study the effects of three arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), including Glomus intraradices, Glomus constrictum and Glomus mosseae, on the growth, root colonization and Cd accumulation of marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) at Cd addition levels of 0, 5 and 50 mg kg-1 in soil. The physiological characteristics, such as chlorophyll content, soluble sugar content, soluble protein content and antioxidant enzyme activity, of Tagetes erecta L. were also investigated. The symbiotic relationship between the marigold plant and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi was well established under Cd stress. The symbiotic relationship was reffected by the better physiobiochemical parameters of the marigold plants inoculated with the three AMF isolates where the colonization rates in the roots were between 34.3% and 88.8%. Compared with the non-inoculated marigold plants, the shoot and root biomass of the inoculated marigold plants increased by 15.2%- 47.5% and 47.8%-130.1%, respectively, and the Cd concentration and accumulation decreased. The chlorophyll and soluble sugar contents in the mycorrhizal marigold plants increased with Cd addition, indicating that AMF inoculation helped the marigold plants to grow by resisting Cd stress. The antioxidant enzymes reacted differently with the three AMF under Cd stress. For plants inoculated with G. constrictum and G. mosseae, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) increased with increasing Cd addition, but peroxidase (POD) activity decreased with increasing Cd addition. For plants inoculated with G. intraradices, three of the antioxidant enzyme activities were significantly decreased at high levels of Cd addition. Overall, the activities of the three antioxidant enzymes in the plants inoculated with AMF were higher than those of the plants without AMF inoculation under Cd stress. Our results support the view that antioxidant enzymes have a great influence on the biomass of plants, and AMF can improve the capability of reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging and reduce Cd concentration in plants to alleviate Tagetes erecta L. from Cd stress.  相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the mobilization of sparingly soluble inorganic andorganic sources of phosphorus (P) by red clover (Trghlium pmtense L.) whose roots were colonized by the arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungus Glomus mosseae and in association with the phosphate-solubilizing (PS) bacterium Bacillus megaterium ACCC10010. Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria and rock phosphate hada synergistic effect on the colonization of plant roots by the AM fungus. There was a positive interaction between the PS bacterium and the AM fungus in mobilization of rock phosphate, leading to improved plant P nutrition. In dual inoculation with the AM fungus and the PS bacterium, the main contribution to plant P nutrition was made by the AM fungus. Application of P to the low P soil increased phosphatase activityin the rhizosphere. Alkaline phosphatase activity was significantly promoted by inoculation with either the PS bacterium or the AM fungus.  相似文献

AM真菌群落改善保护地退化土壤质量和黄瓜生长的效应   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
A pot experiment was performed to determine the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF) communities on soil properties and the growth of cucumber seedlings in a degraded soil that had been used for continuous cucumber monoculture in a greenhouse for 15 years. In the experiment,AMF communities(created by combining various AMF species that were found to be dominant in natural farm soil) were inoculated into the degraded soil, and then the soil was planted with cucumber.Inoculation with AMF communities did not affect soil pH but increased soil aggregate stability and decreased the concentrations of salt ions and electrical conductivity(EC) in the soil.Inoculation with AMF communities increased the numbers of culturable bacteria and actinomycetes but reduced the number of fungi.AMF communities increased plant growth, soluble sugar content, chlorophyll content, and root activity compared to non-mycorrhizal or a single AMF species treatments.Improvements of soil quality and plant growth were greatest with the following two communities:Glomus etunicatum + G.mosseae + Gigaspora margarita + Acaulospora lacunosa and G.aggregatum + G.etunicatum + G.mosseae + G.versiforme + G.margarita + A.lacunosa.The results suggested that certain AMF communities could substantially improve the quality of degraded soil.  相似文献

As common soil fungi that form symbioses with most terrestrial plants, arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM) fungi play an important role in plant adaptation to chromium(Cr) contamination. However, little information is available on the underlying mechanisms of AM symbiosis on plant Cr resistance. In this study, dandelion(Taraxacum platypecidum Diels.) was grown with and without inoculation of the AM fungus Rhizophagus irregularis and Cr uptake by extraradical mycelium(ERM) was investigated by a compartmented cultivation system using a Cr stable isotope tracer. The results indicated that AM symbiosis increased plant dry weights and P concentrations but decreased shoot Cr concentrations.Using the Cr stable isotope tracer technology, the work provided possible evidences of Cr uptake and transport by ERM,and confirmed the enhancement of root Cr stabilization by AM symbiosis. This study also indicated an enrichment of lighter Cr isotopes in shoots during Cr translocation from roots to shoots in mycorrhizal plants.  相似文献

This study evaluated the interactive effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculation and exogenous phosphorus supply on soil phosphotases, plant growth, and nutrient uptake of Kandelia obovata (Sheue, Liu & Yong). We aimed to explore the ecophysiological function of AMF in mangrove wetland ecosystems, and to clarify the possible survival mechanism of mangrove species against nutrient deficiency. K. obovata seedlings with or without AMF inoculation (mixed mangrove AMF), were cultivated for six months in autoclaved sediment medium which was supplemented with KH2PO4 (0, 15, 30, 60, 120 mg kg−1). Then the plant growth, nitrogen and phosphorus content, root vitality, AMF colonization and soil phosphatase activity were analyzed. The inoculated AMF successfully infected K. obovata roots, developed intercellular hyphae, arbuscular (Arum-type), and vesicle structures. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi colonization ranged from 9.04 to 24.48%, with the highest value observed under 30 and 60 mg kg−1 P treatments. Soil P supply, in the form of KH2PO4, significantly promoted the height and biomass of K. obovata, enhanced root vitality and P uptake, while partially inhibiting soil acid (ACP) and alkaline phosphotase (ALP) activities. Without enhancing plant height, the biomass, root vitality and P uptake were further increased when inoculated with AMF, and the reduction on ACP and ALP activities were alleviated. Phosphorus supply resulted in the decrease of leaf N–P ratio in K. obovata, and AMF inoculation strengthened the reduction, thus alleviating P limitation in plant growth. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi inoculation and adequate P supply (30 mg kg−1 KH2PO4) enhanced root vitality, maintained soil ACP and ALP activities, increased plant N and P uptake, and resulted in greater biomass of K. obovata. Mutualistic symbiosis with AMF could explain the survival strategies of mangrove plants under a stressed environment (waterlogging and nutrient limitation) from a new perspective.  相似文献

The interactive impacts of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF, Glomus intraradices) and earthworms (Aporrectodea trapezoides) on maize (Zea mays L.) growth and nutrient uptake were studied under near natural conditions with pots buried in the soil of a maize field. Treatments included maize plants inoculated vs. not inoculated with AMF, treated or not treated with earthworms, at low (25 mg kg−1) or high (175 mg kg−1) P fertilization rate. Wheat straw was added as feed for earthworms. Root colonization, mycorrhiza structure, plant biomass and N and P contents of shoots and roots, soil available P and NO3–N concentrations, and soil microbial biomass C and N were measured at harvest. Results indicated that mycorrhizal colonization increased markedly in maize inoculated with AMF especially at low P rate, which was further enhanced by the addition of earthworms. AMF and earthworms interactively increased maize shoot and root biomass as well as N and P uptake but decreased soil NO3–N and available P concentrations at harvest. Earthworm and AMF interaction also increased soil microbial biomass C, which probably improved root N and P contents and indirectly increased the shoot N and P uptake. At low P rate, soil N mobilization by earthworms might have reduced potential N competition by arbuscular mycorrhizal hyphae, resulting in greater plant shoot and root biomass. Earthworms and AMF interactively enhanced soil N and P availability, leading to greater nutrient uptake and plant growth.  相似文献

Cowpea is an important crop that serves as a legume and vegetable source to many smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. Soil fertility is a significant limitation to its production thus; inoculation with beneficial soil biota such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) could improve its performance. However, plant–AMF interaction could vary based on crop cultivar hence affecting overall crop production. The present study aimed at determining the effect of AMF inoculation and soil sterilization on root colonization and growth of a wild-type and three modern cowpea cultivars grown by smallholder farmers in Kenya. Potted cowpea plants were inoculated with a commercial AMF inoculum comprising of Rhizophagus irregularis, Funneliformis mosseae, Glomus aggregatum and Glomus etunicatum and maintained in a greenhouse for 40 days. After harvesting, mycorrhizal colonization, nodule number and dry weight, root and shoot dry weights, nitrogen (N,) phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) content were determined. Interestingly, the modern cultivars showed significantly (p < 0.001) higher root colonization, nodulation, shoot P and N compared to the wild-type cultivar. Moreover, a strong positive correlation between AMF root colonization and shoot P (r2 = 0.73, 0.90, p < 0.001), AMF root colonization and shoot N (r2 = 0.78; 0.89, p < 0.001) was observed in both sterilized and non-sterilized soil, respectively. Soil sterilization affected root colonization and growth parameters with plants grown in non-sterilized soil performing better than those grown in sterilized soil. This study provides major evidence that modern cowpea cultivars are still responsive to mycorrhizal inoculation suggesting that modern breeding programs are not deleterious AMF symbiosis.  相似文献

A greenhouse experiment was conducted to determine the effect of salinity on the efficacy of two arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), Glomus mossea and natural mycorrhiza, of Glomus species, was investigated in terms of growth and nutrition of corn plant (Zea mays L). Plants were grown under different salinity levels imposed by 2.0, 2.5, 3.5, 5.0, 8.0, 12.0 dS m?1of Hoagland's Solution [sodium chloride (NaCl), sodium sulfate (Na2SO4), Calcium dichloride (CaCl2), and magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) 7:9:3:1 ratio, respectively]. Both types of mycorrhizal fungi did not display significant protection in the host plant against the detrimental effects of the soil salinity. The effect of inoculation on growth varied only with the level of salinity. Maximum root colonization and spore numbers were observed in plants cultivated with low salinity levels. It was found that significant interaction between AMF x Salinity level for calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and manganese (Mn) of shoot, and for Zn and Mn, of root.  相似文献

We have evaluated the effectiveness of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculation (+M and ?M) at 0, 60, and 120 kg ?ha?1 of P fertilizer on crop growth (IEg), plant P nutrition and yield (IEy), and on mycorrhization occurrence in a processing tomato crop. Two experiments were carried out in calcareous soil under field conditions. Phosphorus fertilization had no effect on crop growth and yield. At harvests, +M plants showed higher aerial dry weight, fruit fresh weight, and P concentration. Inoculated plants produced larger inflorescences, higher flower number, and total and marketable fruit number compared with ?M plants. At P0 and P60, plants associated with exogenous AMF were able to enhance P recovery, nevertheless factors other than the P uptake improvement concurred to make the inoculation effective. In both years, P fertilization enhanced IEg and IEy, and the application of 60 kg ?ha?1 of P in inoculated soil was enough to reach high production level (134 Mg ?ha?1). In the first trial, due to earlier root mycorrhization in inoculated and P fertilized soil, higher IEg and IEy were obtained compared with the second experiment. In the latter, during the initial phase, plant growth was more affected by P fertilization than by soil arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) inoculation. Root mycorrhization by native AM fungi indicates that the intensive management of the investigated agro-system did not depress fungi infectivity; however, it caused the selection of less effective AMF. The application of selected AMF as a biofertilizer may represent an innovative ecosustainable practice for improving the crop profitability for growers while reducing the need for P fertilization.

ABSTRACT

High bicarbonate (HCO3 ?) of irrigation water can be detrimental to plant growth in sustainable horticultural production systems. The ability of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), ZAC-19, (composed of Glomus albidum, Glomus claroideum, and Glomus diaphanum) to enhance tolerance to HCO3 ? was tested on Rosa multiflora cv. Burr. Arbuscular mycorrhizal colonized and non-inoculated (non-AMF) plants were treated with 0, 2.5, 5, and 10 mM HCO3 ?. Increasing HCO3 ? concentration and associated high pH and electrical conductivity (EC)—reduced plant growth, nutrient uptake, and acid phosphatase activity, while increasing alkaline phosphatase activity (ALP). Inoculation with AMF enhanced plant tolerance to HCO3 ?, as indicated by greater growth (leaf, stem, and total plant dry weight, leaf area and leaf area ratio), leaf elemental concentration [nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), aluminum (Al), boron (B)], leaf chlorophyll concentration, higher mycorrhizal inoculation effect, lower root Fe reductase activity, and generally lower soluble ALP activity. While AMF colonization was reduced by increasing HCO3 ? concentration, colonization still occurred at high HCO3 ? concentration. At 2.5 mM HCO3 ?, AMF plant growth was comparable to plants at 0 mM HCO3 ?, further indicating the beneficial effect of AMF for alleviation of HCO3 ? plant stress.  相似文献

Densely branched lateral roots (DBLRs) in Sesbania cannabina are formed in response to patchily distributed phosphorus (P) in volcanic soils. Little attention has been paid to morphological and physiological responses of DBLRs. Here, we investigated the relation between plant growth and DBLR development, enzymatic activities involved in P acquisition, and the influence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), which contribute to P uptake, to clarify the function of DBLRs. We investigated DBLR development induced by localized application of P fertilizer and we compared the activities of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCase) and acid phosphatase (APase) between DBLRs and non‐DBLRs. Additionally, plants were grown with or without AMF to investigate the effect of AMF colonization on the numbers of DBLRs and plant P uptake, and we compared AMF colonization between DBLRs and non‐DBLR roots. Secondary to quaternary lateral DBLRs were produced after the primary lateral roots passed near P fertilizer. Pi content per DBLR increased as DBLRs developed, promoting higher shoot growth. Under P deficiency, PEPCase and APase activities increased in non‐DBLR, but were significantly lower in DBLRs in the same plants. AMF inoculation changed the root system architecture by significantly decreasing the number of DBLRs, and AMF colonization was lower in DBLRs than in non‐DBLRs. Our results indicate that DBLR formation is a P‐coacquisition strategy of S. cannabina grown in P‐deficient andosolic soil. Roots that form DBLR are clearly different from non‐DBLR roots in morphological and biochemical response and AMF symbiosis.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This work was conducted to study phosphorus (P) efficiency of two maize genotypes (Zea mays, L.) in calcareous soil grown in potted soil with two levels of P in soil by adding 40 and 270 mg P/kg soil. Half of the pots were inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) (Rhizoglomus irregulare). The maize genotypes were harvested two times at 35 and 50 days after transplanting. The plant dry matter, root length and Plant P uptake of maize genotype Hagen 1 without mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) increased significantly compared with Hagen 9 at a low P level. In contrast, there was no significant difference between two maize genotypes inoculated with AMF under the same P level. The predicted value increased rapidly with increasing P levels from about 70% up to 97% in both maize genotypes with and without mycorrhizal fungi. At a low P level, the mycorrhizae hyphae contributed by about 31.6% and 30.2% of the predicted total P uptake in maize genotype Hagen 1 and Hagen 9, respectively. The results of this study suggested that the P-inefficient genotype Hagen 9 improved with inoculation with mycorrhizal fungi under a low P level at the same conditions of this experiment. Also, root growth system and mycorrhizal hyphae length would be a suitable plant parameter for studying P efficient maize genotypes, especially under limited P supply. The current study clearly pointed out that the mechanistic simulation model (NST 3.0) provides useful tools for studying the role of AMF in P uptake of plant.  相似文献

Arbuscular Mycorrhizae Fungi (AMF) inoculations may improve growth and nutrient uptake of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) plant. Although the importance of mycorrhizal symbioses for growth and nutrient acquisition of cotton plant is known, less is known about mycorrhizal dependency on P and Zn nutrition under low Zn fertile soil conditions. A greenhouse experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of different of P and Zn fertilizer addition on cotton plant growth as well as Zn and P uptake. Sterilized and non-sterilized low Zn fertile Konya series soil was treated with different levels of P and Zn. Soils were inoculated with two mycorrhizae species like Funneliformis mosseae and Claroideoglomus etunicatum after sterilization. Results showed that mycorrhizal inoculation on plant growth and nutrient uptake has significant effect when soil was sterilized. Cl. etunicatum mycorrhizae species has greater effect than Fu. mosseae mycorrhizae species. Root colonization increased 23–65% due to mycorrhizal amendment. The shoot: root ratio increased by 13 and 22% for non-sterile and sterile condition respectively in mycorrhiza amended soil. Mycorrhizal dependency varies 1–55% and 3–64% for non-sterile and sterile soil respectively on mycorrhizae, P and Zn amended soil. Mycorrhizal dependency analysis showed that cotton plant in both sterile and non-sterile soil conditions depends on mycorrhizae species, P nutrition, however is less depend on Zn nutrition. This study concluded that the inoculation of cotton plant with selected mycorrhizae is necessary under both sterile and non-sterile soil conditions.  相似文献
