A unilateral ophthalmomyiasis posterior in a 5-year-old female spayed Domestic Long-haired cat of a third or fourth stage instar Cuterebra spp. larvae is reported. The cat was presented for depression and anorexia. The organism was found on physical examination at presentation. The cat was euthanized because of the worsening systemic condition. The larva was demonstrated by histopathology with coagulation necrosis and hemorrhage of the optic nerve, retina and choroid, and anterior uveitis. No significant cerebrum and anterior brain stem lesions were found.  相似文献

Bilateral hypertensive retinopathy and choroidopathy with bullous retinal detachment was diagnosed in a 17-year-old, female spayed Domestic Short-haired cat. The underlying cause of the systemic hypertension could not be determined. The blood pressure was lowered successfully with the oral application of the L-type calcium channel blocker amlodipine besylate. The cat subsequently regained vision. The improvement in retinal function was documented using electroretinography.  相似文献

Lymphosarcoma and cryptococcosis in a cat   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Cryptococcosis and lymphosarcoma were diagnosed in a 3-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat. The cat was studied immunologically, and abnormal findings included absolute lymphopenia, with a low percentage of the lymphocytes having cell surface markers of normal T and B cells, decreased responsiveness to mitogens, and low immunoglobulin concentrations in serum. Necropsy revealed cryptococcal lesions in the facial area. The cortex of the left kidney was replaced by a diffuse pattern of undifferentiated large cells compatible with those of histiocytic cell type lymphosarcoma.  相似文献

Trombiculosis (dermatitis caused by trombiculid mites) in a Domestic Shorthair cat was characterized by diffuse thickening and crusting of the skin of the abdomen and limbs and by multiple papules on the face, ears, and sides of the trunk. Skin biopsy revealed acanthosis and hyperkeratosis involving the epidermis and hair follicles, mites in epidermal tunnels, and edema of the dermis, with infiltration of eosinophils and mast cells. Mites from skin scrapings were identified as Walchia americana. The cat was treated systemically with a broad-spectrum antibiotic and topically with a carbaryl and pyrethrin powder preparation. The lesions were resolved within 2 months.  相似文献

A nasal mass in a Domestic Shorthair cat was causing facial deformity, sneezing and intermittent epistaxis. Biopsy samples obtained previously had been non-diagnostic. Computed tomography images revealed an irregular, contrast-enhancing mass occupying a large portion of the righthand side of the nasal cavity. Previously described criteria for malignancy were not present. A ventral surgical approach combined with temporary, ipsilateral, common carotid arterial occlusion provided excellent access for debulking the lesion and collecting samples for histopathology. A nasal vascular hamartoma was diagnosed and clinical signs resolved postoperatively. This is the first documentation of this abnormality in the cat. Hamartomatous abnormalities should be included on the list of differential diagnoses for feline nasal mass lesions. The prognosis for hamartomatous lesions postoperatively is good, in keeping with their limited propensity for growth after maturity.  相似文献

The aim of this retrospective study was to describe the clinical characteristics and treatment of four cats with dermatophytic pseudomycetoma. Four Persian cats, one female and three males, with age ranging from 1.4 to 5 years, were diagnosed with dermatophytic pseudomycetoma by histological examination and fungal culture. Wood's lamp examination revealed positive fluorescence of hairs in all four cats. Characteristic skin lesions consisted of multifocal, raised, firm and nodular to dome-shaped lesions varying in size from 1 to 8 cm in diameter, with ulcers or fistulas in some of the lesions. One cat was treated and cured with 3 months of oral itraconazole; lesions completely regressed, and at the time of writing there has been no recurrence. One cat was treated with surgical excision alone, and recurrence of lesions occurred after a disease-free interval of 15 months. Two cats were treated with surgical excision and systemic itraconazole therapy. Itraconazole therapy was started 1-2 months before surgery and continued for 3 months after surgery. Surgical margins were wide in both cats, and underlying adipose tissue and/or deeper fascia was removed. One cat relapsed, but had a disease-free interval of 18 months. The other cat has been disease free for 32 months. This case series suggests that aggressive, wide surgical excision and concurrent oral itraconazole are highly beneficial in treating dermatophytic pseudomycetoma in cats.  相似文献

A limbal melanoma was surgically excised from the OS of a 4-year-old castrated male Domestic Short-haired cat (DSH). The resultant scleral defect was repaired by placement of A-cell bio-scaffold material. The patient responded well in the postoperative period with no apparent discomfort, nor any observable complications. No signs of recurrence have been evident nearly 2.5 years following surgical removal. A-cell appears to be a safe and reasonable option to lend support to corneoscleral defects following removal of neoplastic lesions. It carries with it the advantages of availability, minimal host rejection, and reduced potential for iatrogenic spread of infections agents.  相似文献

A thirteen year old neutered female Domestic Shorthair cat with oral squamous cell carcinoma was noted to have a cranial mediastinal mass on survey thoracic radiographs. Fluoroscopic aspiration was performed and cystic fluid was obtained which was clear colorless, and devoid of cells, with a specific gravity of 1.005 and protein <2.5 mg/dl. On postmortem examination, a unilocular cyst was identified originating from the external lateral surface of the cranial mediastinum. Histologically, the cyst lining was nonciliated and resembled mesothelium. These findings differentiate this cyst from previously reported branchial cysts in cats where the cysts were multiloculated, the cyst fluid was mucinous and cellular, and the cysts were lined by ciliated columnar epithelial cells.  相似文献

Two hundred and twenty-six cats from the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), a cat shelter, and a purebred cattery were tested for chronic feline calicivirus (FCV), feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infections. Chronic oral carriage of FCV was present in about one-fifth of the cats in each of the groups. FIV infection was not present in the purebred cattery, was moderately prevalent (8%) in the pet population of cats examined at the VMTH for various complaints and was rampant in the cat shelter (21%). Unexpectedly high FeLV infection rates were found in the hospital cat population (28%) and in the purebred cattery (36%), but not in the cat shelter (1.4%). FCV and FeLV infections tended to occur early in life, whereas FIV infections tended to occur in older animals. From 43 to 100% of the cats in these environments had oral cavity disease ranging from mild gingivitis (23-46%), proliferative gingivitis (18-20%), periodontitis (3-32%) and periodontitis with involvement of extra-gingival tissues (7-27%). Cats infected solely with FCV did not have a greater likelihood of oral lesions, or more severe oral disease, than cats that were totally virus free. This was also true for cats infected solely with FeLV, or for cats dually infected with FeLV and FCV. Cats infected solely with FIV appeared to have a greater prevalence of oral cavity infections and their oral cavity disease tended to be more severe than cats without FIV infection. FIV-infected cats that were coinfected with either FCV, or with FCV and FeLV, had the highest prevalence of oral cavity infections and the most severe oral lesions.  相似文献

A 3-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat was presented with weight loss, anorexia and icterus. Feline hepatic lipidosis and gallbladder mucocoele were diagnosed; this is the first report of gallbladder mucocoele in the cat. The case was managed successfully with cholecystojejunostomy, gastrostomy tube placement and tube feeding for 3 months. The cat has survived over the long term with minimal complications.  相似文献

A 4-year-old, neutered male Domestic Shorthair cat with a history of depression, anorexia, and weight loss was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). The cat tested positive by both the feline immunodeficiency virus antibody test and feline leukemia virus enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test. Results of cytochemical stains on peripheral blood and bone marrow specimens indicated acute myeloid leukemia with unusual basophilic differentiation (AML, M-2B).  相似文献

A 7-month-old, male, Burmese cat was presented with an oral mass that had rapidly regrown following excisional biopsy 3 weeks earlier. The tumour was identified by histological examination as a feline inductive odontogenic tumour. A unilateral segmental mandibulectomy was performed. Although dental malocclusion resulted from mandibular drift to the operated side, the cat displayed minimal dysphagia post-operatively and there was no evidence of tumour regrowth 8 months after surgery. Feline inductive odontogenic tumour is a rare dental tumour described exclusively in cats under 3-years-of-age. Although histopathologically benign, feline inductive odontogenic tumour grows by expansion and can infiltrate underlying bone to cause considerable local destruction. This article is intended to increase awareness of this unusual tumour which, with complete surgical excision, carries a good prognosis. It also emphasises the importance of obtaining a histological diagnosis from oral mass lesions to direct appropriate therapy and to provide an accurate prognosis.  相似文献

A Domestic Shorthaired cat was presented with coughing and severe respiratory distress. Thoracic radiographs revealed a lobar mass and numerous additional cavitated intrapulmonary masses. The cat was euthanized and submitted for necropsy. Histological examination of the large mass revealed 2 distinct neoplastic components consisting of bronchial adenocarcinoma admixed with neoplastic areas composed of highly atypical undifferentiated spindle cells (sarcomatous component). Simultaneous expression of vimentin and cytokeratin by a subpopulation of neoplastic epithelial cells and by rare neoplastic spindle cells was identified. On the basis of histology and immunohistochemical results, a diagnosis of primary pulmonary carcinosarcoma with intrapulmonary epithelial metastases was made. Pulmonary carcinosarcoma is a well-known pathological entity in humans. It is a rare tumor in animals and has not been previously reported in cat.  相似文献

Objective: To report the clinical signs, imaging findings and surgical treatment of a meningoencephalocele in a cat. Study Design: Case report. Animal: Domestic shorthaired cat, 4 months old. Methods: A parietal meningoencephalocele was identified and characterized by magnetic resonance and computed tomography (CT) imaging. The abnormal tissue was excised and submitted for histopathology, and the meningeal and skull defects were reconstructed. Results: The cat made a full recovery and the episodes of aggression, restlessness and apparent discomfort that occurred before surgery ceased after surgical treatment. The cat was clinically normal 1 year postoperatively. Conclusion: Surgical management of meningoencephalocele in cats may be a viable treatment option.  相似文献

A 7-year-old, spayed female Domestic Longhair cat was evaluated for a 6-week history of coughing. Thoracic radiography revealed a pleural effusion. Thoracic ultrasound revealed a pleural effusion and a focal lung mass. The cat underwent exploratory thoracotomy and a total left pneumonectomy was performed. Histopathology and cultures revealed fungal pneumonia and pyothorax caused by Aspergillus fumigatus. Abdominal ultrasound, repeat thoracic radiography, urinalysis with culture, and retroviral screening failed to detect evidence of systemic disease. The cat's poorly regulated diabetes mellitus is suspected to be the predisposing factor allowing a fungal pulmonary infection to become established. At 18 months after surgery the cat was still disease-free. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of successful treatment of pulmonary aspergillosis in the cat.  相似文献

Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) embodies a group of diseases in human patients and domestic animals that are characterized by hyperplasia or neoplasia, or both, of two or more endocrine tissues. The MEN-1 syndrome is associated with menin gene mutations that induce various combinations of parathyroid, pituitary, and pancreatic endocrine tumors in humans. Two male, Domestic Shorthair cats developed symmetric alopecia, insulin-resistant diabetes mellitus, and pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism at 12 and 13 years of age. Examination of skin biopsy specimens revealed atrophic dermatosis associated with hyperadrenocorticism. In one cat, cutaneous lesions consistent with paraneoplastic alopecia associated with pancreatic adenocarcinoma also were evident. Multiple invasive pancreatic beta cell carcinomas, pituitary corticotroph adenomas, and thyroid C-cell and parathyroid chief cell hyperplasia were diagnosed on the basis of results of gross, histologic, and immunohistochemical findings in both cats. Pancreatic exocrine adenocarcinoma was diagnosed in both cats. One cat also had hepatocellular carcinoma. Exons 1-8 of the feline menin gene were sequenced and were found to bear 93% homology with the human gene sequence, and the corresponding amino acid sequences shared 98% homology. Purification of total RNA and amplification of cDNA from lesional tissues to document mutations in the feline menin gene sequence were unsuccessful. The combination of lesions observed was consistent with the diagnosis of MEN-1-like syndrome in both cats.  相似文献

A bilateral conjunctival neoplasm was surgically removed from a 13-year-old Domestic Short-haired female cat and examined by histopathology. The neoplasm was infiltrative, nonencapsulated and composed of large sheets of densely packed, round to polygonal cells. Neoplastic cells were variably sized with scant to modest amounts of cytoplasm and oval to round nuclei. On immunohistochemistry the neoplastic cells stained positively for BLA.36 and negative for CD-3 antibodies. On the basis of histopathology and immunohistochemical findings, a diagnosis of conjunctival B-cell lymphoma was made. This is the first case with immunohistochemical characterization of conjunctival lymphoma in a cat.  相似文献
