The supply of mineral nutrients had a significant effect onthe growth and form of seedling Quercus petraea. Plants receivinglarge amounts of fertilizer were more vigorous producing longershoots with more buds and branches on interwhorl sections ofshoot and in whorls than those given smaller quantities. Foreach flush there was a significant relationship between budnumber and length of shoot produced. Qualitative effects werealso apparent, high N plants flushed more frequently and producedmore branches per bud. The number of buds on interwhorl sectionsof shoot was greater than in corresponding whorls but whorlbuds had a greater tendency to form branches. Application ofNPK to 10-year-old trees in the field increased the number ofbranches produced during the lammas flush of growth. The sequence and timing of shoot development from buds on thebranches and trunk of Quercus robur were observed over 2 years.Shoots on crown branches began development before those on existingepicormic branches but both stopped growing at about the sametime. Epicormic buds on the trunk began expanding 3–4weeks after crown buds, and finished growth 3 weeks later. The influence of shoot architectural position on shoot growth and branching patterns was examined in saplings of Cleyera japonica Thunb. (Theaceae), an understory, broad-leaf evergreen woody species. Shoot length varied with branching order and the vertical position of the branch in the crown. In the upper crown, shoot length decreased with increasing branching order, whereas in the lower crown, differences in shoot length among branching orders were not significant. These results demonstrate that it is important to consider not only individual shoots, but also the relationships between shoots in terms of their architectural positions when studying the development of crown architecture in trees. Shoot branching patterns also varied with branching order and the vertical position of the branch in the crown. In the upper crown, branching was mainly sylleptic. In the middle of the crown, mainly proleptic branches were produced. In the lower crown, there was little branching. The importance of these trends in shoot growth and shoot branching patterns in terms of carbon production efficiency is discussed.  相似文献

对5年生和7年生青海云杉苗进行了不同方式的修剪,同时用不同的生长调节剂对其主干和侧枝上的芽进行了处理,发现除去青海云杉顶芽,能够促进苗木侧芽和隐芽的生长发育,提高侧芽的抽枝率,增加新枝的生长量.不同种类的生长调节剂和修剪方式对青海云杉芽的生长发育影响效果显著不同,去顶芽修剪的效果优于纺锤形修剪和篱式修剪,对于7年生苗,主干上仅留3个饱满芽的强度修剪能明显地减少主干上的芽数,使抽枝数也随之减少,处理效果最差.去顶芽能够明显的增加当年新梢数量和长于6 cm的新梢总长度,同时还能增加当年新梢上冬芽数.6BA对青海云杉芽和枝条的生长发育有较好的促进作用,抽枝宝在各个修剪处理中表现均最差,甚至在一定程度上抑制了青海云杉芽的萌发和延长生长.修剪和生长调节剂处理对5年生苗侧枝芽抽枝数影响均极显著,而对7年生苗的影响却不显著;修剪和生长调节剂的交互作用明显地影响了对7年生苗的处理效果,而对5年生苗的影响不显著.去顶芽后再用6BA涂抹青海云杉苗上的保留芽,能有效地促进青海云杉保留芽的生长发育,有利于形成更多枝条,对青海云杉采穗圃苗的处理效果最佳,强度修剪和用抽枝宝抹芽不适于青海云杉采穗圃苗的培育.  相似文献

The production and allocation of aboveground biomass and the characteristics of tree architecture were examined in eight-year-old Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.). Considerable among-tree variation existed in tree architecture, total aboveground dry mass production, and dry mass partitioning among tree parts. A linear relationship existed between needle and branch mass. Stem mass was directly proportional to tree height, which in turn was directly proportional to the allocation ratio between stem mass and total needle + branch mass production. The architectural characteristics that were related to a high proportional allocation to stem and high stemwood production were a large mean shoot volume, large mean number of branches per whorl, long needle retention and a high crown length/crown width ratio. Individual trees were found that combined high stemwood production with both high harvest index and high stemwood specific gravity.  相似文献

To gain further insight into crown development, the influences of shoot architectural position (branch order) and light environment on patterns of shoot growth of Cleyera japonica Thunberg (Theaceae) were investigated. Annual shoot length and light environment were positively correlated within same-order branches. Shoot length differed significantly among branch orders: shoot length was greater for the lower-order branches when light environments were comparable. Lower-order branches lengthened to a certain extent even if light availability was relatively low, whereas higher-order branches did not grow vigorously even when light availability was relatively high. Within same-order branches, branching was independent of the light environment of the shoot. Sylleptic shoot production differed significantly among branch orders, with most sylleptic shoots being produced on second-order branches. It is concluded that both light condition and architectural position of shoots must be considered when examining the mechanisms underlying crown development.  相似文献

Effects of rootstock, shoot carbohydrate status, crop load and crown position on the number of preformed leaf primordia in the dormant terminal and lateral buds of mature and immature 'Kerman' pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) trees were investigated to determine if rootstock vigor is associated with greater shoot preformation. There was no significant variation in preformation related to the factors studied, suggesting strong genetic control of preformation in 'Kerman' pistachio. The growth differences observed among trees on different rootstocks were associated with greater stimulation of neoformed growth in trees on the more vigorous rootstocks. However, most annual extension growth in mature tree crowns was preformed, contrasting with the relatively high rate of neoformation found in young tree crowns. Large amounts of neoformed growth in young trees may allow the trees to become established quickly and secure resources, whereas predominantly preformed growth in mature trees may allow for continued crown expansion without outgrowing available resources. We hypothesized that the stimulation of neoformed growth by the more vigorous rootstocks is associated with greater resource uptake or transport, or both. Understanding the source of variation in shoot extension growth on different rootstocks has important implications for orchard management practices.  相似文献

A model for the vertical location of whorl and interwhorl branches was constructed for Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica Manetti). The vertical location of branches in the crown partly governs their further growth and mortality from which depend (i) the stem growth and form and (ii) the quality of lumber and veneer, including wood knots. The modeling method, based on an architectural approach, reveals branching patterns. Each annual shoot was considered as a sequence of successive positions, unbranched or branched with two types of branch: short or long shoot. Branching sequences were analyzed using hidden semi-Markov chains. A wide range of annual shoot lengths was sampled in order to determine the relationships between sequence length and the characteristics of every zone identified (frequency of every type of axillary production, probability of zone occurrence and probability of transition to the following zone). The model predicts branch vertical position which can be used as inputs for branch diameter and mortality models.  相似文献

以湘林1号油茶无性系为试验材料,研究喷施不同浓度的磷酸二氢钾、尿素、赤霉素、硼肥等4种叶面肥对其枝条和有效芽生长的影响。结果表明:硼肥和尿素对油茶新梢长生长、有效芽数量有极显著影响,4种叶面肥对新梢粗的影响不显著;对新梢长和有效芽生长效果最好的浓度和肥种组合是200 mg/mL的硼肥。  相似文献

Leader shoot damage was imposed on young Scots pines (3 m high) in four ways: by caging the uppermost whorl including the leader shoot with 10 pine shoot beetles; by caging the two uppermost whorls with 20 beetles; by topping the tree below the 1984 whorl; by topping the trees as above and removing all current shoots in whorl 1983. Six years later, top‐damaged trees were still significantly shorter than undamaged controls, although the annual height growth rate had recovered to the pre‐damage level within 3 years. Recovery occurred in two ways: lateral branches from the nearest intact whorl took dominance over the damaged leader or secondary branches developed from interfascicular buds on the damaged leader shoot. Approximately one and two years of height growth were lost in the former and latter case, respectively. Only 5 of the 34 top‐damaged trees escaped technical defects (crooks and/or vertical branches). Stem diameter and crown development were slightly affected.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to describe and quantify Aleppo pine aerial primary growth processes and to assess their relationships with climate. Primary growth (branch length growth, branching rate, polycyclism, needle number and size, fruiting), i.e. crown development and reproduction, was reconstructed for the last 16?years in Mediterranean France. From 1998 to 2007, climate has been far hotter and drier than normal in South-eastern France. All variables related to crown development and fruiting, as well as radial growth, significantly declined after 2003 heat wave and during repeated droughts from 2004 to 2007. A partial recovery of most parameters occurred from 2008 to 2010 on vigorous branches while frail branches showed less improvement. The limited crown development during unfavourable years may significantly hold back tree potential photosynthetic biomass for several following years and contribute to a slower than expected recovery of tree growth or to delayed die-back.  相似文献

To understand the development of crown structure in Betula platyphylla Sukatch., mortality patterns of long shoots were analyzed quantitatively. We selected 25 saplings growing under various light conditions and measured the relative photosynthetically active radiation (rPAR) at, and the three-dimensional position of, first-order branches. A long shoot was assigned "no buds" (NB) status if it lacked buds at the end of the growing season, including at the tips of short shoots. A long shoot was classified as dead if it was NB and all the offspring long shoots issuing from it were NB. The probability that a leafy long shoot (a current-year long shoot with leaves or an older long shoot with short shoots with leaves) would become NB by the end of the season was positively dependent on shoot age and branch age, and negatively dependent on shoot length, centripetal shoot order, branch height and rPAR at the branch. Randomization tests revealed that shoots became NB and dead in clusters of connected shoots. In particular, shoot clusters originating from 3-year-old shoots were more likely to die than expected if each shoot was assumed to become NB regardless of the connection. Stepwise logistic regression revealed that the maximum rPAR within the crown of an individual tree had a significant effect on the mortality rate of 3-year-old shoot clusters, together with the rPAR at the level of the branch and other structural entities. Correlative inhibition is an important mechanism for determining shoot mortality patterns.  相似文献

在2005年底,对福建建瓯、浙江淳安和庆元的3年生37个产地的木荷种源试验林进行了全面调查,系统研究了幼林生长和分枝性状的种源差异、种源与环境互作及地理变异模式.结果表明:木荷树高、当年抽梢长度、地径、冠幅及侧枝总数、侧枝长和侧枝粗等分枝性状都存在显著的种源效应,木荷地理种源分化明显.造林区立地生境和造林地立地条件对木荷种源生长影响显著,如福建建瓯点3年生种源平均树高较北缘区浙江淳安点和高海拔山地浙江庆元点分别提高了24.1%和18.0%.木荷树高、当年抽梢长度、冠幅、侧枝总数等存在显著的种源×地点和种源×重复/地点互作,不同种源在各区试点上的生长相对表现差异显著.相关分析表明,木荷生长和分枝性状的地理变异模式因区试点环境条件差异而迥异.在中心分布区的福建建瓯点,种源生长和分枝性状与产地纬度相关性显著,呈典型的纬向地理变异模式,速生种源主要来源于分布区的中南部;在北缘区的浙江淳安点,种源高径生长与产地经纬度相关性较小,仅发现侧枝总数和树冠浓密度与产地纬度呈一定程度的负相关,速生种源主要来源于分布区的中部;而在较高海拔区的浙江庆元点,由于环境相对恶劣,木荷种源生长和分枝性状与产地纬度呈显著的正相关,偏北部种源的早期生长表现较好.基于种源幼林测定结果,分别从中心分布区和北缘区初选了一批速生用材和生物防火优良种源.  相似文献

We investigated the influence of bud position, cultivar, tree age, tree carbohydrate status, sampling date, drought and light exposure on the number of leaf primordia formed in dormant vegetative peach buds (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) relative to the number of primordia formed after bud break (neoformed). During winter dormancy, vegetative peach buds from California and Italy were dissected and the number of leaf primordia recorded. Between leaf drop and bud break, the number of leaf primordia doubled from about five to about 10. Parent shoot length, number of nodes on the parent shoot, cross-sectional area of the parent shoot, bud position along the parent shoot and bud cross-sectional area were correlated with the number of leaf primordia. Previous season light exposure, drought and tree carbohydrate status did not affect the number of leaf primordia present. The number of leaf primordia differed significantly among peach varieties and tree ages at leaf drop, but not at bud break. Our results indicate that neoformation accounted for all shoot growth beyond about 10 nodes. The predominance of neoformed shoot growth in peach allows this species great plasticity in its response to current-season conditions.  相似文献

We studied the in vitro responses of cambial tissue and dormant vegetative buds obtained from top and epicormic branches of three mature black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) trees. Cambial tissues isolated from epicormic branches produced more callus than cambial tissues isolated from top branches, whereas in vitro shoot cultures derived from buds excised from top branches grew faster than those derived from buds excised from epicormic branches. There were no significant differences between the two branch sources in in vitro bud break or shoot multiplication from bud explants or cambial-derived callus tissue, respectively. Furthermore, the top branches, generally considered to be the most mature in a tree, were not recalcitrant in terms of morphogenic capacity compared to epicormic branches.  相似文献

Data are presented for the duration and amount of growth ofthe leading shoots of twenty-five species of conifer duringfour to six seasons and, for a further eighteen species, themean duration of growth for one to seven seasons. Curves ofgrowth derived from weekly measurements show the patterns ofgrowth typical of some genera. All data refer to a single sitein south-west Surrey. Four patterns of growth are distinguished. Species with verysmall resting buds have long periods of growth and those withlarge buds have short periods. There are two intermediate growthpatterns and one of these, shown most clearly by the larches(Larix spp.), combines in some measure the advantage of eachextreme and shows the greatest potential growth. The greatestannual growths noted in Britain have occurred in individualspecies of all four patterns, however, and the rate of elongationof the shoot is as important as the period or pattern of growth. In the small sample studied, there was little variation withinspecies in the date on which growth began but great variationin the date on which it ceased. Trees suffering from check,suppression, or disease begin at the normal time, but elongateslowly and stop growing very early. The species which begingrowth early in the season show wider variation in their dateof starting from year to year than those which begin late. An analysis was also carried out to determine the relationshipbetween length of shoot, period of growth, and some climaticfactors. Trees have been increasingly considered as modular organisms, with individual shoots forming autonomous units that respond semi-independently to their surrounding environment. However, there is evidence for fairly strict hormonal control of tree crown development. Studies on the hydraulic architecture of trees suggest a closer functional connection between shoots and crown development than is postulated by the theory of branch autonomy. We studied how shoot growth pattern influences growth and crown architecture in young Scots pine trees simulated by the LIGNUM model assuming that (a) the growth of a shoot mainly depends on its light climate and (b) the growth of a shoot is influenced by its position within the crown. We determined shoot position within the crown based on a recently developed vigor index. The vigor index compares the relative axis cross-sectional area from the base of the tree to each shoot and gives a value of 1 to the pathway of the greatest cross-sectional area. All other shoots attain values between 0 and 1 depending on their cross-sectional areas and the cross-sectional areas of the branches leading there from the main axis. The shoot light climate is characterized by annually intercepted photosynthetically active radiation. We compared the results from simulations (a) and (b) against an independent data set. The addition of a within-shoot position index (the vigor index) to our simulation (simulation b) resulted in a more realistic tree form than that obtained with simulation (a) alone. We discuss the functional significance of the results as well as the possibilities of using an index of shoot position in simulations of crown architecture.  相似文献

Branches of Pinus contorta Dougl. bearing two-year-old female cones initiated fewer lateral buds than vegetative branches. However, the number of lateral shoots that differentiated and grew was not reduced on female cone-bearing branches. Neither the number nor the weight of female cones influenced the length of the terminal shoot. The total length of all lateral shoots was positively associated with the weight of two-year-old female cones. Branch units with two-year-old female cones produced significantly more total dry weight in the current year than vegetative branch units. There was, however, no significant reduction in the dry weight of terminal and lateral shoots. Branches bearing female cones allocated between 17 and 45% of the current year's dry weight to two-year-old cones and between 1 and 5% was allocated to one-year-old female cones. Female cones therefore apparently do not reduce the photosynthetic potential of trees. The influence of female cones compared with male cones on the growth of trees is discussed.  相似文献
