Twenty-three dogs with heart failure were evaluated in a 12-month study by measuring baseline plasma atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) concentrations. Ten dogs were classified as having mild to moderate cardiac disease (group 1) and 13 dogs were classified as having severe cardiac disease (group 2). The mean plasma ANP concentration for the group 1 dogs was 64 +/- 45 pg/mL and for the group 2 dogs, 328 +/- 122 pg/mL. The median survival time (1,095 d) for group 1 dogs was significantly greater (P < 0.05) than for group 2 dogs (58 d). A significantly (P < 0.05) greater median survival was noted for dogs with plasma ANP < 95 pg/mL (1095 d) compared with those with ANP > 95 pg/mL (58 d). Plasma ANP concentrations are a potential noninvasive predictor of survival in dogs with heart failure.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether Boxers with a clinical diagnosis of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) have increased plasma concentrations of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), compared with concentrations in clinically normal dogs. ANIMALS: 13 Boxers with ARVC, 9 clinically normal Boxers, 10 clinically normal non-Boxer dogs, and 5 hound dogs with systolic dysfunction. PROCEDURE: All Boxers were evaluated via 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiography and echocardiography; the number of ventricular premature contractions (VPCs) per 24 hours was assessed. Hound dogs with cardiac pacing-induced systolic dysfunction (positive control dogs) and clinically normal non-Boxer dogs (negative control dogs) were evaluated echocardiographically. Three milliliters of blood was collected from each dog for measurement of plasma BNP concentration by use of a radioimmunoassay. RESULTS: Mean +/- SD plasma BNP concentration for the ARVC-affected Boxers, clinically normal Boxers, negative control dogs, and positive control dogs was 11.0 +/- 4.6 pg/mL, 7.9 +/- 3.2 pg/mL, 11.5 +/- 4.9 pg/mL, and 100.8 +/- 56.8 pg/mL, respectively. Compared with findings in the positive control group, plasma BNP concentration in each of the other 3 groups was significantly different. There was no significant difference in BNP concentration between the 2 groups of Boxers. A significant correlation between plasma BNP concentration and number of VPCs per 24 hours in the ARVC-affected Boxers was not identified. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: A significant difference in BNP concentration between Boxers with ARVC and clinically normal Boxers was not identified. Results suggest that BNP concentration may not be an indicator of ARVC in Boxers.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the use of measuring plasma concentrations of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), and cardiac troponin-I (cTnI) to detect dogs with occult dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). ANIMALS: 118 client-owned dogs. PROCEDURES: Dogs were prospectively examined by use of ECG; echocardiography; and evaluation of concentrations of ANP, BNP, and cTnI. Occult DCM was diagnosed by evaluation of echocardiographic left ventricular dimensions and detection of ventricular arrhythmias on ECG. Sensitivity and specificity of assays for measurement of plasma concentrations of ANP, BNP, and cTnI to detect dogs with occult DCM were determined. RESULTS: Occult DCM was diagnosed in 21 dogs. A concentration of > 6.21 pg/mL for BNP had a sensitivity of 95.2% and specificity of 61.9% for identifying dogs with occult DCM. In contrast, concentrations of ANP and cTnI had relatively low predictive values. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Blood-based screening for occult DCM in dogs can be accomplished by use of a BNP assay. Additional studies should be performed to optimize this method of screening dogs to detect occult DCM.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is increased in dogs with congestive heart failure (CHF). HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical utility of a novel canine-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay of BNP for the diagnosis of CHF in dogs presenting with either cough or dyspnea. ANIMALS: Three hundred and thirty dogs from 2 large university teaching hospitals. METHODS: We prospectively measured plasma BNP concentrations in 3 groups of dogs: (1) normal adult dogs (n = 75), (2) dogs with asymptomatic heart disease (n = 76), and (3) dogs with cough or dyspnea (n = 179). The final diagnosis of dogs with cough or dyspnea and the severity of CHF (International Small Animal Cardiac Health Council Heart Failure Classification [ISACHC]) were determined by medical record review by a study cardiologist who was blinded to the results of the BNP assay. RESULTS: Dogs with CHF had a higher median BNP concentration (24.6 pg/mL) than dogs with noncardiac causes of cough or dyspnea (2.6 pg/mL) (P < .0001). The area under the curve was 0.91 for the receiver operating curve analysis of the diagnostic accuracy of the BNP measurement to differentiate CHF from other causes of cough or dyspnea. The median BNP concentrations in dogs were 3.0 pg/mL with ISACHC I, 17.8 pg/mL with ISACHC II, and 30.5 pg/mL with ISACHC III. (P < .0001) CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: Measurement of BNP is useful in establishing or in excluding the diagnosis of CHF in dogs with cough or dyspnea. B-type natriuretic peptide concentrations rose significantly as a function of severity of CHF.  相似文献

Plasma concentrations of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) were measured in 6 dogs with experimental mitral regurgitation (MR) and 19 canine patients with asymptomatic and symptomatic congestive heart failure (CHF). In dogs with experimental MR, ANP and BNP concentrations were significantly correlated with pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) (ANP; r=0.852, P=0.0004, BNP; r=0.832, P=0.0008). ANP level was shown to have a predominant effect on PCWP in comparison with BNP using multiple regression analysis. In canine patients with asymptomatic and symptomatic CHF, ANP and BNP concentrations were significantly different among the heart failure classes according to the New York Heart Association functional classification (ANP; P=0.0165, BNP; P=0.0005). In addition, ANP and BNP levels in dogs with decompensated heart failure (n=10) significantly increased in comparison with those in dogs with compensated heart failure (n=9). There was however no correlation between ANP and BNP levels in each heart failure class. In conclusion, plasma ANP and BNP levels may become predictors of PCWP and the severity of heart failure in dogs with MR, although further investigations on ANP and BNP levels in more clinical cases are required.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: It is challenging to differentiate congestive heart failure (CHF) from noncardiac cause of dyspnea. HYPOTHESIS: Circulating concentrations of atrial natriuretic peptide (NT-proANP), B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), endothelin-I (ET-1), and cardiac troponin-I (cTnI) can be used to help distinguish between cardiac and noncardiac causes of dyspnea in dogs. ANIMALS: Forty-eight client-owned dogs admitted to a veterinary teaching hospital for respiratory distress. METHODS: Blood samples from patients were prospectively obtained. The etiology of dyspnea was determined by using physical examination, thoracic radiographs, and echocardiography. RESULTS: CHF was diagnosed in 22 dogs, and dyspnea of noncardiac origin (noHD group) was diagnosed in 26 dogs. Analyses revealed significant difference between groups for NT-proANP (geometric mean, 95% confidence [CI]; no HD: 0.26 nmol/mL, 95% CI 0.17-1.09; CHF: 1.38 nmol/mL, 95% CI 1.09-1.74 nmol/mL; P < .0001), BNP (noHD: 12.18 pg/mL, 95% CI 10.91-16.17 pg/mL; CHF: 34.97 pg/mL, 95% CI 23.51-52.02 pg/mL; P < .0001), and ET-1 (noHD: 0.32 fmol/mL, 95% CI 0.23-0.46 fmol/mL; CHF: 1.26 fmol/mL, 95% CI 0.83-1.91 fmol/mL; P < .0001). Plasma cTnI concentrations were not significantly different between groups (noHD: 0.29 ng/mL, 95% CI 0.12-0.72 ng/mL; CHF: 0.42 ng/mL, 95% CI 0.18-0.97, P = .53). Receiver operating curves indicated areas under the curve for NT-proANP, BNP, and ET-1 of 0.946, 0.886, and 0.849, respectively. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: Plasma NT-proANP, BNP, and ET-1, but not cTnI, appear useful for distinguishing between dogs with cardiac and noncardiac causes of dyspnea, with plasma NT-proANP having the highest sensitivity (95.5%) and specificity (84.6%).  相似文献

The concentration and molecular form of the plasma atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in dogs with mitral regurgitation was investigated. Plasma ANP concentration in dogs with mitral regurgitation was significantly increased (29.4 +/- 1.88 pmol litre-1, n = 40) compared to that in the controls (14.5 +/- 0.62 pmol litre-1, n = 20, P less than 0.01). Molecular forms of plasma ANP were determined by the gel permeation chromatogram. A single peak corresponding to alpha-ANP was detected in the plasma from the controls. However, a peak corresponding to beta-ANP and, or, gamma-ANP was detected in the plasma of the dogs with mitral regurgitation in addition to alpha-ANP. These results suggest that the process of ANP synthesis was altered and excretion of ANP from the heart was enhanced in dogs with mitral regurgitation.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of methylprednisolone treatment on serum leptin and ghrelin levels in healthy dogs (n=40). After 14 h of fasting, the dogs were injected intramuscularly with saline (control group) or methylprednisolone (1, 5 or 10mg/kg). Blood samples were collected prior to (baseline) and 2, 3, 4, 8, 12 and 24h subsequent to the treatments. Serum leptin and ghrelin were measured by radioimmunoassay. The mean baseline serum leptin and ghrelin were 2.5+/-0.1 ng/mL (n=40) and 35.0+/-2.1 pg/mL (n=40), respectively. In the control dogs, serum leptin, but not ghrelin levels showed a significant fluctuation during the 24h observation period. Serum leptin increased significantly (p<0.05-0.01) between 2 and 12h after 1mg/kg of methylprednisolone. Serum leptin levels showed biphasic response to 5mg/kg of methylprednisolone: its level decreased to 1.9+/-0.1 ng/mL (p<0.01) at 2h and increased at 12h (2.6+/-0.1 ng/mL) (p<0.01). In response to 10mg/kg of methylprednisolone, serum leptin levels decreased significantly (p<0.01) for 24h. Serum ghrelin levels decreased to 19+/-5 pg/mL at 2-3h (p<0.01) or increased to 87+/-18 pg/mL at 3-8h (p<0.05-0.01) after 1mg/kg of methylprednisolone or 10mg/kg of methylprednisolone, respectively. Serum ghrelin levels did not change at any time point during 24h observation period after 5mg/kg of methylprednisolone. There was a significant (p<0.001) inverse correlation (r=-0.635) between serum leptin and ghrelin levels. In conclusion, we found that methylprednisolone increases or decreases serum leptin and ghrelin levels depending upon its dose and there is a negative correlation between serum leptin and ghrelin levels after methylprednisolone administration.  相似文献

Dogs suffering from Golden Retriever muscular dystrophy (GRMD) present symptoms that are similar to human patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Phenotypic variability is common in both cases and correlates with disease progression and response to therapy. Physical therapy assessment tools were used to study disease progression and assess phenotypic variability in dogs with GRMD. At 5 (T0), 9 (T1), 13 (T2) and 17 (T3) months of age, the physical features, joint ranges of motion (ROM), limb and thorax circumferences, weight and creatine kinase (CK) levels were assessed in 11 dogs with GRMD. Alterations of physical features were higher at 13 months, and different disease progression rates were observed. Passive ROM decreased until 1 year old, which was followed by a decline of elbow and tarsal ROM. Limb and thorax circumferences, which were corrected for body weight, decreased significantly between T0 and T3. These measurements can be used to evaluate disease progression in dogs with GRMD and to help discover new therapies for DMD patients.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To describe neuroendocrine responses that develop in dogs subjected to prolonged periods of ventricular pacing. ANIMALS: 14 adult male hound-type dogs. PROCEDURE: Samples were obtained and neuroendocrine responses measured before (baseline) and after 3 periods of ventricular pacing. A pacemaker was used to induce heart rates of 180, 200, and 220 beats/min (BPM). Each heart rate was maintained for 3 weeks before increasing to the next rate. Atrial natriuretic peptide, antidiuretic hormone, aldosterone, norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dopamine concentrations and plasma renin activity were measured. Severity of left ventricular compromise was estimated. RESULTS: Shortening fraction decreased significantly with increasing heart rates (mean +/- SE, 35.5 +/- 1.4, 25.0 +/- 1.4, 19.5 +/- 1.9, and 12.2 +/- 2.3 for baseline, 180 BPM, 200 BPM, and 220 BPM, respectively). Atrial natriuretic peptide concentrations increased significantly at 180 BPM (44.1 +/- 3.0 pg/mL) and 200 BPM (54.8 +/- 5.5 pg/mL), compared with baseline concentration (36.8 +/- 2.6 pg/mL). Dopamine concentration increased significantly at 200 BPM (70.4 +/- 10.4 pg/mL), compared with baseline concentration (44.2 73 pg/mL). Norepinephrine concentrations increased significantly from baseline concentration (451 +/- 46.2 pg/mL) to 678 +/- 69.8, 856 +/- 99.6, and 1,003 +/- 2676 pg/mL at 180, 200, and 220 BPM, respectively. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Dogs subjected to ventricular pacing for 9 weeks developed neuroendocrine responses similar to those that develop in humans with more chronic heart failure and, except for epinephrine concentrations, similar to those for dogs subjected to ventricular pacing for < 6 weeks.  相似文献

Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is stored in atrial myocytes as a 126 amino acid precursor molecule (ANP 1-126) and is cleaved during its release into circulation into the biologically active C-terminal ANP (99-126) and the N-terminal counterpart, ANP (1-98). While interest has focused on ANP (99-126) under physiological and pathophysiological conditions, data for the cosecreted N-terminal sequence, ANP (1-98) are generally missing. Plasma levels of the N-terminal immunoreactive peptide (N-ANP [1-98]) were measured in normal dogs, and in dogs with impaired volume regulation (congestive heart failure; chronic renal failure or Cushing's syndrome and compared with those of C-ANP (99-126). The N-ANP (1-98) concentration was 593.1 +/- 81.1 fmol ml-1 in normal subjects, which is about 60-fold higher than the C-ANP (99-126) (10.8 +/- 2.6 fmol ml-1). In patients suffering from chronic renal failure ANP (1-98) was increased to 1582 +/- 196 fmol ml-1, and in dogs with congestive heart failure to 1612 +/- 244 fmol ml-1. In contrast, Cushing's syndrome dogs showed decreased N-ANP (1-98) concentrations (351 +/- 65.9 fmol ml-1). There was a positive correlation between plasma levels of N-ANP (1-98) and C-ANP (99-126) levels (correlation coefficients: normal: r = 0.78; congestive heart failure: r = 0.76; chronic renal failure: r = 0.86; Cushing's syndrome: r = 0.57). Arterial thromboembolism (ATE) is a common complication of cats with cardiomyopathy (CM), but little is known about the pathophysiology of ATE. In people, high plasma concentrations of homocysteine and low B vitamin concentrations are risk factors for peripheral vascular disease. In addition, low plasma arginine concentrations have been linked to endothelial dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to compare concentrations of homocysteine, B vitamins, and amino acids in plasma of normal cats to those of cats with CM and ATE. Plasma concentrations of homocysteine, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, folate, and amino acids were measured in 29 healthy cats, 27 cats with CM alone, and 28 cats with both CM and ATE. No differences were found between groups in homocysteine or folate. Mean vitamin B12 concentration (mean +/- standard deviation) was lower in cats with ATE (866 +/- 367 pg/mL) and cats with CM (939 +/- 389 pg/mL) compared with healthy controls (1,650 +/- 700 pg/mL; P < .001). Mean vitamin B6 concentration was lower in cats with ATE (3,247 +/- 1.215 pmol/mL) and cats with CM (3,200 +/- 906 pmol/mL) compared with healthy control animals (4,380 +/- 1,302 pmol/mL; P = .005). Plasma arginine concentrations were lower in cats with ATE (75 +/- 33 nmol/mL) compared with cats with CM (106 +/- 25 nmol/mL) and healthy control animals (96 +/- 25 nmol/ mL; P < .001). Vitamin B12 concentration was significantly correlated with left atrial size. We interpret the results of this study to suggest that vitamin B12 and arginine may play a role in CM and ATE of cats.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) results in progressive myocardial and circulatory dysfunction causing activation of a number of neurohormonal systems, including the endothelin (ET) system, which is only beginning to be described in clinical veterinary medicine. Measurement of these circulating neurohormones possesses potential utility in the diagnosis, staging, and assessment of prognosis in cardiac disease. HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that plasma big ET-1, norepinephrine (NE), aldosterone, and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) concentrations in normal Dobermans would differ from those in Dobermans with DCM, and that concentrations of these hormones would be associated with time to congestive heart failure (CHF) or death. ANIMALS: Thirty client-owned Dobermans (10 each of normal, occult DCM, and overt DCM) were included in the study. METHODS: Dogs underwent an echocardiogram, ECG, and blood sample collection. Neurohormones were measured by high-pressure liquid chromatography (NE) or commercial assays. RESULTS: Dogs with occult DCM had significantly higher ANP concentrations compared with normal dogs (least squares means [95% confidence interval, CI]: occult female 53.7 pg/mL [40.2-71.7] versus normal female 31.6 pg/mL [24.8-40.3], P = .026; occult male 86.1 pg/mL [64.7-115] versus normal male 12.1 pg/mL [5.1-28.7], P = .011). Dogs with overt DCM had significantly higher concentrations of all neurohormones compared with the normal group. Furthermore, increasing big ET-1 (risk ratio [RR] 2.7, CI 1.3-8.6, P = .01) and NE concentrations (RR 3.9, CI 1.1-18.1, P = .03) over 1 month were associated with a shorter survival time. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE: High ANP concentrations can identify dogs with advanced occult DCM. Increasing big ET-1 or NE concentrations over time can be useful predictors of poor prognosis.  相似文献

Objective To characterize the flash electroretinogram (ERG) in the Golden Retriever muscular dystrophy (GRMD) dog and to compare the results with those from a control group of Golden Retrievers. To investigate whether similar abnormalities of the ERG as those found in a majority of human patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) are also observed in the GRMD dog, the canine model for DMD. Animals Five GRMD dogs and five age‐matched clinically normal Golden Retrievers. Procedure An ophthalmic examination was carried out prior to performing electroretinography under general anesthesia. Rod, combined rod–cone and oscillatory potentials responses were recorded after dark adaptation. Responses to 30‐Hz‐flicker were recorded after light adaptation. The ERG responses of the GRMD dogs were compared with those of the control dogs by use of a Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results GRMD dogs had significantly reduced a and b‐wave amplitudes after dim white flash stimuli (rod response) and reduced a‐wave amplitude after bright white flash stimuli (rod–cone response). Conclusion and clinical relevance The ERG abnormalities observed in the GRMD dog suggest a dysfunction in the rod signaling pathway. These ERG alterations are different from those observed in human patients with DMD.  相似文献

The function of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is claimed to be control of salt and water homeostasis, and thus, the hormone may be involved in the pathogenesis of certain diseases with impaired volume regulation. We, therefore, studied plasma ANP concentration in dogs with chronic renal failure, congestive heart failure, and hyperadrenocorticism. Dogs with chronic renal failure had twofold higher plasma ANP concentration (16.2 +/- 5.8 fmol/ml), compared with healthy dogs (8.3 +/- 3.5 fmol/ml). An even more distinct increase (sixfold) of plasma ANP concentration was found in dogs with congestive heart failure (52.9 +/- 29.7 fmol/ml). In contrast, dogs with hyperadrenocorticism did not have high ANP plasma concentration (5.5 +/- 2.0 fmol/ml). High-performance liquid chromatographic analysis of plasma from dogs with congestive heart failure indicated that, in addition to the normal circulating form of ANP (99-126), the unprocessed precursor ANP (1-126) is detectable in the circulation. These qualitative and quantitative alterations of plasma ANP concentration in dogs further suggest involvement of this peptide in the development and/or maintenance of diseases associated with impaired volume regulation.  相似文献

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has potent angiogenic, mitogenic, and vascular permeability enhancing properties specific for endothelial cells. VEGF is present in high concentrations in inflammatory and neoplastic body cavity effusions and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of neoplastic and inflammatory effusion formation. In this study, VEGF was quantitated by solid-phase enzyme-linked immunoadsorbent assay (ELISA) in samples of pericardial, pleural, and peritoneal effusions (N = 38) from dogs (N = 35) with neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases. VEGF was detected in 37 of 38 effusions (median, 754; range, 18-3,669 pg/mL) and was present in much higher concentrations than in previously established normal concentrations for canine plasma (median, < 1 pg/mL; range, < 1-18 pg/mL) or in those previously noted in the plasma of dogs with hemangiosarcoma (HSA; median, 17 pg/mL; range, < 1-67 pg/mL). In 4 dogs with HSA, the concurrent plasma VEGF concentration was much lower than in the abdominal effusion (P = .029). No significant correlation was demonstrated between VEGF effusion concentration and effusion total protein content or nucleated cell count. Mean VEGF concentrations were significantly higher in pericardial (median, 3,533; range, 709-3,669 pg/mL) and pleural effusions (median, 3,144; range, 0-3,663 pg/mL) compared to peritoneal effusions (median, 288; range, 18-2,607 pg/mL; P < .05). There was no marked difference demonstrated between effusions associated with malignant and nonmalignant diseases. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the role of VEGF in body cavity effusion formation in dogs.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To quantify radial and longitudinal left ventricular free wall (LVFW) velocities in dogs during the preclinical phase of Golden Retriever muscular dystrophy (GRMD)-associated cardiomyopathy by use of tissue Doppler imaging (TDI). ANIMALS: 9 dogs with GRMD and 6 healthy control dogs. PROCEDURE: All dogs (< 3 years old) were examined via conventional echocardiography and 2-dimensional color TDI. Myocardial velocities in the LVFW were recorded from right parasternal ventricular short-axis (radial motion) and left apical 4-chamber (longitudinal motion) views. Cardiac assessments via TDI included maximal systolic and early and late diastolic LVFW velocities in the endocardial and epicardial layers (for radial motion) and in the basal and apical segments (for longitudinal motion) (for longitudinal motion), RESULTS:-No notable ventricular dilatation or alteration of inotropism was detected in dogs with GRMD via conventional echocardiography. Compared with healthy dogs, endocardial velocities were significantly decreased in dogs with GRMD, resulting in marked decreases in radial myocardial velocity gradients during systole and early and late diastole. Similarly, basal and apical velocities were significantly decreased in systole and the former also in early diastole, resulting in significant decreases in the 2 corresponding longitudinal myocardial velocity gradients. The radial epicardial and longitudinal late diastolic velocities were comparable in the 2 groups. CONCLUSION AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results indicated that GRMD-associated cardiomyopathy in dogs is associated with early marked dysfunction of both radial and longitudinal LVFW motions. These combined regional myocardial abnormalities might be useful criteria for detection of dilated cardiomyopathy at the preclinical stage of the disease in dogs.  相似文献

Six nontrained mares were subjected to steady-state, submaximal treadmill exercise to examine the effect of exercise on the plasma concentration of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in arterial, compared with mixed venous, blood. Horses ran on a treadmill up a 6 degree grade for 20 minutes at a speed calculated to require a power equivalent to 80% of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2MAX). Arterial and mixed venous blood samples were collected simultaneously from the carotid and pulmonary arteries of horses at rest and at 10 and 20 minutes of exercise. Plasma was stored at -80 C and was later thawed; ANP was extracted, and its concentration was determined by radioimmunoassay. Exercise caused significant (P < 0.05) increases in arterial and venous plasma ANP concentrations. Mean +/- SEM arterial ANP concentration increased from 25.2 +/- 4.4 pg/ml at rest to 52.7 +/- 5.2 pg/ml at 10 minutes of exercise and 62.5 +/- 5.2 pg/ml at 20 minutes of exercise. Mean venous ANP concentration increased from 24.8 +/- 4.3 pg/ml at rest to 67.2 +/- 14.5 pg/ml at 10 minutes of exercise and 65.3 +/- 13.5 pg/ml at 20 minutes of exercise. Significant differences were not evident between arterial or mixed venous ANP concentration at rest or during exercise, indicating that ANP either is not metabolized in the lungs or is released from the left atrium at a rate matching that of pulmonary metabolism.  相似文献

Peri-operative changes in echocardiographic measurements and plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) were investigated for 1 month in 3 dogs with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Post-operative left ventricular end-diastolic dimention and fractional shortening decreased in all cases. Pre-operatively increased plasma ANP concentrations reduced dramatically after the operation. Peri-operative changes in plasma BNP levels had slightly S-shaped curves in all cases. These observations suggest that post-operative responsiveness of ANP and cardiac function are rapid in comparison with cardiac morphological changes, and BNP has a different pathophysiological significance from ANP in dogs with PDA.  相似文献

Plasma brain natriuretic peptide concentration ([BNP]) is high in humans with cardiac disease and is further increased with congestive heart failure (CHF). The hypotheses of this study were that dogs with moderate to severe mitral regurgitation due to myxomatous mitral valve disease (MVD) would have increased plasma [BNP] compared to normal dogs, that plasma [BNP] would be higher in dogs with CHP, and that plasma [BNP] would predict premature death from cardiovascular disease. The study population consisted of 34 dogs: 9 normal dogs and 25 dogs with MVD. Patients were divided into 4 groups: group 1-10 dogs with moderate to severe MVD and no radiographic evidence of CHF; group II--6 dogs with severe MVD and mild CHF; group III--7 dogs with severe MVD and moderate CHF; and group IV--2 dogs with severe MVD and severe CHF. Diagnostic tests included thoracic radiographs, an echocardiogram, a serum chemistry profile, and the measurement of plasma [BNP] by a canine-specific radioimmunoassay. There was a significant positive correlation between the plasma [BNP] and heart disease/failure groups (P = .0036). Plasma [BNP] increased with progressively increasing severity of MVD and CHE Group I dogs had higher plasma [BNP] than did control dogs (P < .0001), and plasma [BNP] was higher in dogs with CHF (groups II-IV versus group I; P = .012). Plasma [BNP] was also weakly positively correlated with left atrial size (r = 0.43, P = .04). For every 10-pg/mL increase in plasma [BNP], the mortality rate over 4 months' time increased approximately 44%.  相似文献
