A field experiment was carried out to evaluate the feasibility of inoculating rice seedlings with biofertilizers (Azospirillum and Trichoderma) in order to reduce the use of chemical inorganic nitrogen (N) fertilizer on rice variety BU Dhan 1. The plant performances were better when 25% less inorganic N was applied with Trichoderma and combined application of Trichoderma and Azospirillum. Plants contained the highest chlorophyll concentrations when they were treated with 75% N + Trichoderma. Considering the yield attributes, 75% N + Trichoderma and 75% N + Trichoderma + Azospirillum performed similar to the control. The grain yield of rice was similar to the recommended dose even with 25% less N application. Application of Trichoderma resulted higher yield, followed by combined application with Azospirillum. Results revealed the greater scope of applying biofertilizer (Trichoderma) to supplement chemical N fertilizer with optimum yield of rice.  相似文献

To explore how rice(Oryza sativa L.) can be safely produced in Cd-polluted soil, OsLCT1 and OsNramp5 mutant lines were generated by CRISPR/Cas9-mediated mutagenesis. One of OsLCT1 mutant(lct1×1) and two of OsNramp5 mutants(nramp5×7 and nramp5×9) were evaluated for grain Cd accumulation and agronomic performances. In paddy field soil containing approximately 0.9 mg/kg Cd, lct1×1 grains contained approximately 40%(0.17 mg/kg) of the Cd concentration of the wild type parental line, less than the China National Food Safety Standard(0.20 mg/kg). Both OsNramp5 mutants showed low grain Cd accumulation(< 0.06 mg/kg) in the paddy(approximately 0.9 mg/kg Cd) or in pots in soil spiked with 2 mg/kg Cd. However, only nramp5×7 showed normal growth and yield, whereas the growth of nramp5×9 was severely impaired. The study showed that lct1×1 could be used to produce rice grains safe for human consumption in lightly contaminated paddy soils and nramp5×7 used in soils contaminated by much higher levels of Cd.  相似文献

The inclusion of grain legumes in rainfed lowland rice farming systems provides an opportunity to increase food production, household income, and human nutrition of impoverished rice farmers in Asia. We examined the effect of rice establishment method on the performance of wet season rice (Oryza sativa L.) and post-rice crops of either chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) or moong [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] on an Udic Haplustalf in the drought-prone, rainfed lowlands of eastern India. Rice was either direct seeded in lines on moist soil immediately after the onset of wet season rain or transplanted after sufficient rainwater accumulated for soil submergence. Crop establishment method had no effect on rice performance in a season (2001) with normal rainfall. In a drought season (2002), direct seeding resulted in mean rice grain yield of 2.3 t ha−1, whereas the transplanted rice crop failed. The agronomic efficiency of N fertilizer applied to direct-seeded rice was comparable for the 2 years (18 and 24 kg grain per kg N applied). Topsoil inorganic N was markedly higher following chickpea and moong than following a post-rice fallow. Direct-seeded rice had higher yield and accumulation of N following a post-rice legume than following fallow, but transplanted rice derived no such benefit from the legume. Direct-seeded rice was established 1–2 months before transplanted rice, and direct-seeded rice matured before transplanted rice by 8 days in the favorable season and by 26 days in the drought season. The soil nitrate present after legumes and fallow rapidly disappeared, presumably by denitrification, following the onset of rains and soil flooding prior to transplanting. A portion of this accumulated soil nitrate was taken up by the direct-seeded rice before it could be lost. But transplanted rice did not benefit from this inorganic N derived from legumes because virtually all soil nitrate was lost before transplanting. Direct seeding of rice ensured better use of residual and applied N, reduced risk due to drought, and favored intensification with post-rice legumes in drought-prone lowland systems.  相似文献

Many Australian cotton growers now include legumes in their cropping system. Three experiments were conducted between 1994 and 1997 to evaluate the rotational effects of winter or summer legume crops grown either for grain or green manuring on following cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Non-legume rotation crops, wheat (Triticum aestivum) and cotton, were included for comparison. Net nitrogen (N) balances, which included estimates of N associated with the nodulated roots, were calculated for the legume phase of each cropping sequence. Faba bean (Vicia faba — winter) fixed 135–244 kg N ha−1 and soybean (Glycine max — summer) fixed 453–488 kg N ha−1 and contributed up to 155 and 280 kg fixed N ha−1, respectively, to the soil after seed harvest. Green-manured field pea (Pisum sativum — winter) and lablab (Lablab purpureus — summer) fixed 123–209 and 181–240 kg N ha−1, respectively, before the crops were slashed and incorporated into the topsoil. In a separate experiment, the loss of N from 15N-labelled legume residues during the fallow between legume cropping and cotton sowing (5–6 months following summer crops and 9 months after winter crops) was between 9 and 40% of 15N added; in comparison, the loss of 15N fertilizer (urea) applied to the non-legume plots averaged 85% of 15N added. Little legume-derived 15N was lost from the system during the growth of the subsequent cotton crop. The improved N fertility of the legume-based systems was demonstrated by enhanced N uptake and lint yield of cotton. The economic optimum N fertilizer application rate was determined from the fitted N response curve observed following the application of N fertilizer at rates between 0 and 200 kg N ha−1 (as anhydrous ammonia). Averaged over the three experiments, cotton following non-legume rotation crops required the application of 179 kg N ha−1, whilst following the grain- and green-manured legume systems required only 90 and 52 kg N ha−1, respectively. In addition to improvements in N availability, soil strength was generally lower following most legume crops than non-legume rotation crops. Penetrometer resistance during the growth of the subsequent cotton crop increased in the order faba bean, lablab, field pea, wheat, cotton, and soybean. It is speculated that reduced soil strength contributed to improvement in lint yields of the following cotton crops by facilitating the development of better root systems.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted over the period 1994–1996 to investigate the residual effect on rice of a wide range of temperate legume species, grown during the preceding winter season in a warm-temperate environment in Nepal. The incorporation of large quantities of above- and below-ground legume biomass (roots and foliage) resulted in substantial residual effects on the subsequent upland rice crop. The effects on rice yield in terms of percent increase over the control were more pronounced at a site of comparatively lower inherent soil fertility where grain yields of rice grown after high yielding legume crops such as bitter lupin (Lupinus mutabilis) and Persian clover (Trifolium resupinatum) were almost twice as high (up to 7.6 t DM ha−1) than those of the control treatment (rice after wheat). In contrast, the residual effects of below-ground biomass (roots, nodules) on the following rice crop were not very pronounced and resulted in similar residual effects as rice, after fallow. Although up to 480 kg ha−1 of legume foliage N had been applied to rice, only a small proportion of the legume N (up to 70 kg N ha−1) was recovered by the following rice crop. Total rice dry matter yields were highly correlated with the amount of legume N applied, yet other factors such as residue quality and residue management practices appeared to also affect the magnitude of the residual effects. Future work should aim at investigating the effect of residue quality as affected by legume species and residue management practice on decomposition and N mineralisation processes in rice soils.  相似文献

Pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) seedlings compete poorly against the rapid growth of warm-season annual weeds. Weed control is required before this heat and drought-tolerant legume can be reliably grown in the U.S. southern Great Plains as a potential source of livestock hay between annual plantings of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Currently, no herbicides are labeled for use on pigeon pea grown in the U.S. Three years of replicated field experiments were conducted to determine the effects of applications (1× and 2× rates) of herbicides (pre-emergence, sulfentrazone + chlorimuron and metribuzin; post-emergence, imazapic and sethoxydim) on weed suppression, pigeon pea dry matter, and carry-over effects on a winter wheat crop. The most abundant summer weeds were broadleaf, and all herbicide treatments, except sethoxydim (grass herbicide), reduced weed densities compared to untreated plots without adversely affecting pigeon pea stands. Imazapic treatments provided the most effective weed control. Overall average pigeon pea dry matter ranged from 75 to 256 g m−2 with sethoxydim and the untreated control  metribuzin  sulfentrazone + chlorimuron  hand weeded control  imazapic. Compared to the hand-weeded control, imazapic treatments greatly reduced wheat dry matter (1×, 65% and 2×, 91%) and grain yield (1×, 59% and 2×, 93%). Imazapic should not be used unless nontransgenic imidazolinone herbicide tolerant wheat cultivars are planted. While the other herbicides decreased negative effects of weeds on pigeon pea dry matter without greatly affecting productivity of a following wheat crop, appropriate labels for each of these herbicides will be required prior to their use by southern Great Plains pigeon pea producers.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted to investigate the performance of temperate legume species in rice-based cropping systems in a warm-temperate environment in Nepal. Over the period 1994–1996, various legume species were grown during the winter season (October–May) in the Kathmandu valley (27° N, 1350 m asl) with the aim of evaluating their biomass production and N fixation. A wide range of legume species including food, feed and green manure crops proved to be very well adapted to the winter growing conditions in this environment. The cultivation of temperate legume crops therefore, constitutes an alternative to traditional cropping practices such as growing wheat or leaving the land fallow. The temperate species appeared to capitalise on generally favourable growing conditions such as long growing season, low pest and disease pressure, high radiant energy receipt and cool night temperatures. However, performance varied greatly between species and years. Total dry matter yields ranged from 2 to 20 t ha−1 obtained with lentil (Lens culinaris Medic) and bitter lupin (Lupinus mutabilis), respectively. Highest seed yields were produced by fababean (Vicia faba) (5 t ha−1) and field pea (Pisum sativum var. arvense) (3 t ha−1) in the first season. Nitrogen yields and quantities of N fixed ranged from 18 to 481 kg ha−1 and from 0 to 463 kg ha−1, respectively. Large amounts of N were fixed by species such as fababean, Persian clover (Trifolium resupinatum) and bitter lupin. Early sowing in autumn was shown to be beneficial for some crops such as fababean, vetch (Vicia benghalensis) and Persian clover. In these cases, it is, therefore, important to reduce the turn-around interval after rice. Further research is required to fully determine the potential of temperate legume species in these environments with particular emphasis given to the identification of the most adapted cultivars and to reduce the need for irrigation of these winter crops.  相似文献

Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is one of the chief foreign exchange earning crops for Vietnam. However, owing to lack of appropriate management practices, the production and the area under cultivation of groundnut have remained low. Mulches increase the soil temperature, retard the loss of soil moisture, and check the weed growth, which are the key factors contributing to the production of groundnut. On-farm trials were conducted in northern Vietnam to study the impact of mulch treatments and explore economically feasible and eco-friendly mulching options. The effect of three mulching materials (polythene, rice straw and chemical) on weed infestation, soil temperature, soil moisture and pod yield were studied. Polythene and straw mulch were effective in suppressing the weed infestation. Different mulching materials showed different effects on soil temperature. Polythene mulch increased the soil temperature by about 6 °C at 5 cm depth and by 4 °C at 10 cm depth. Mulches prevent soil water evaporation retaining soil moisture. Groundnut plants in polythene and straw mulched plots were generally tall, vigorous and reached early flowering. Use of straw as mulch provides an attractive and an environment friendly option in Vietnam, as it is one of the largest rice growing countries with the least use of rice straw. Besides, it recycles plant nutrients effectively.  相似文献

High grain-Cd-accumulating rice variety Yongyou 9 was planted in Cd-contaminated farmland in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, China to study the effects of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and 24-epibrassinolide (EBR) on Cd accumulation in brown rice. Results showed that the exogenous ALA and EBR had no significant effects on agronomic traits, soil pH and total Cd content in soil, but had some effects on the available Cd content in soil, and significantly influenced the Cd accumulation in the different parts of rice. Results also showed that 100 mg/L exogenous ALA significantly reduced the Cd accumulation in brown rice to blow the food safety standard (0.2 mg/kg), and also significantly reduced the Cd contents in the roots and culm of rice. However, 200 mg/L exogenous ALA treatment increased the Cd content in brown rice remarkably. In addition, 0.15 mg/L EBR treatment increased Cd accumulation in roots, culm, leaves and brown rice notably, whereas 0.30 mg/L exogenous EBR treatment reduced the Cd accumulation in brown rice properly, but it was not significant. Therefore, proper concentration of ALA can effectively reduce the Cd accumulation in brown rice, which can be used as an effective technical method for the safe production of rice in Cd polluted farmland.  相似文献

Integrated use of organic and inorganic fertilizers can improve crop productivity and sustain soil health and fertility. The present research was conducted to study the effects of application of green manures [sesbania (Sesbania aculeate Poiret) and crotalaria (Crotalaria juncea L.)] and farmyard manure on productivity of rice (Oryza sativa L.) and its residual effects on subsequent groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) crop. Rice and groundnut crops were grown in sequence during rainy and post-rainy seasons with and without green manure in combination with different fertilizer and spacing treatments under irrigated conditions. The results showed that application of green manures sesbania and crotalaria at 10 t ha−1 to rice compared to no green manure application significantly increased grain yield of rice by 1.6 and 1.1 t ha−1, and pod yields of groundnut crop succeeding rice by 0.25 and 0.16 t ha−1, respectively. There was no significant difference between the application of crotalaria or farmyard manure at 10 t ha−1 on grain yields of rice, but pod yields of subsequent groundnut crop were greater with application of green manure. There was no significant effect of different spacing 20×15,15×15,15×10 cm2 (333 000; 444 000; 666 000 plant ha−1, respectively) on grain yield of rice. Pod yields of groundnut were significantly greater with closer spacing 15×15 cm2 (444 000 plants ha−1) as compared to spacing of 30×10 cm2 (333 000 plants ha−1). Maximum grain of rice was obtained by application of 120:26:37 kg NPK ha−1 in combination with green manures, whereas maximum pod yield of groundnut was obtained by residual effect of green manure applied to rice and application of 30:26:33 kg NPK ha−1 in combination with gypsum applied to groundnut crop.  相似文献

Deceleration in rice (Oryza sativa L.) yield over time under fixed management conditions is a concern for countries like Bangladesh, where rice is the primary source of calories for the human population. Field experiments were conducted from 1990 to 1999 on a Chhiata clay loam soil (Hyperthermic Vertic Endoaquept) in Bangladesh, to determine the effect of different doses of chemical fertilizers alone or in combination with cow dung (CD) and rice husk ash (ash) on yield of lowland rice. Two rice crops—dry season rice (December–May) and wet season rice (July–November) were grown in each year. Six treatments—absolute control (T1), one-third of recommended fertilizer doses (T2), two-thirds of recommended fertilizer doses (T3), full doses of recommended fertilizers (T4), T2+5 t CD and 2.5 t ash ha−1 (T5) and T3+5 t CD and 2.5 t ash ha−1 (T6) were compared. The CD and ash were applied on dry season rice only. The 10-year mean grain yield of rice with T1 was 5.33 t ha−1 per year, while the yield with T2 was 6.86 t ha−1 per year. Increased fertilizer doses with T3 increased the grain yield to 8.07 t ha−1 per year, while the application of recommended chemical fertilizer doses (T4) gave 8.87 t ha−1 per year. The application of CD and ash (T5 and T6) increased rice yield by about 1 t ha−1 per year over that obtained with chemical fertilizer alone (T2 and T3, respectively). Over 10 years, the grain yield trend with the control plots was negative, but not significantly, both in the dry and wet seasons. Under T3 through T6, the yield trend was significantly positive in the dry season, but no significant trend was observed in the wet season. The treatments, which showed positive yield trend, also showed positive total P uptake trend. Positive yield trends were attributed to the increasing P supplying power of the soil.  相似文献

Cover cropping can have various beneficial effects to the cropping system such us the increase of soil nutrient content and weed suppression. In this respect, the species used for covering is of great importance. This paper reports results on the yield and weed control effects in potato crops preceded by different cover crops over a 2-year period (2003 and 2004) in Central Italy (Viterbo). Results were obtained in the frame of a more complex study set up in 2002 where in a 3-year chick-pea/potato/tomato rotation, each crop was preceded by 7 different soil managements: 5 cover crops (rapeseed, Italian ryegrass, hairy vetch, snail medick and subclover) + 1 unfertilised weedy fallow (cover crop absent) + 1 control (weedy fallow fertilised with mineral N at a rate of 170 kg ha−1 for potato). Two different weed control regimes in potato were also applied [weed-free crop (1 inter-row hoeing + 1 hilling up + manual weeding on the row); mechanical control (1 inter-row hoeing + 1 hilling up)]. Cover crops were sown in September and cut and ploughed just before potato planting in March. The potato crops following the cover crops were only fertilised with green manure. Averaged over years, all the cover crops produced more above-ground dry biomass than the weedy fallow (4.79 t ha−1 on average vs 2.36 t ha−1). Hairy vetch and subclover accumulated the highest N in the incorporated biomass (169 and 147 kg ha−1), followed by snail medick (108), rapeseed (99), ryegrass (88) and weedy fallow (47). Rapeseed and ryegrass were the most efficient weed suppressors and had the least proportion of weed biomass (<1%) of the total produced by the cover, while they also reduced weed emergence in the following potato crops (8.8 plants m−2vs 25.5 plants m−2 with all other cover crops). Following subclover and hairy vetch the potato crop yield was similar to that obtained by mineral N-P-K fertilisation (48.5 t ha−1 of fresh marketable tubers). Mechanical weed control compared to weed free crop always reduced potato yield and the reduction, averaged over years, was greater in N-P-K mineral fertilised control (−23.6%) and smaller in ryegrass (−7.9%).  相似文献

Breeding program strategies to develop novel short grain white rice varieties such as japonica (short grain) that introgress biotic stress resistance and high grain quality have been developed using indica rice (Pin Kaset + 4 and Riceberry) for applications in japonica rice (Koshihikari) improvement. Four breeding lines showing promising agronomic performance with short grain and low amylose content (< 20%) were obtained. In addition, sensory testing of these breeding lines showed high scores that similar to Koshihikari. Two promising lines, KP48-1-5 and KP48-1-9, which possessed a combination of four genes resistance to different biotic stresses (Bph3 + TPS + Xa21 + Pi-ta) and four genes for grain quality (GS3 + SSIIa + wxb + badh2), were developed using marker-assisted selection (MAS) with the pedigree method. The current study clearly illustrated the successful use of MAS in combining resistance to multiple biotic stresses while maintaining a high yield potential and preferred grain quality. Moreover, the results indicated that this breeding program, which includes crossing temperate japonica with indica, can create novel short grain rice varieties adapted to a tropical environment, like the japonica type.  相似文献

Low native nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) coupled with imbalanced nutrient application is a major constraint limiting productivity of intercropping systems on Vertisols of the semi-arid tropical India. In a 3-year field experiment competition behaviour of component crops for nutrients use in soybean/pigeonpea intercropping system was assessed based on relative yield (RY), relative nitrogen yield (RNY) and relative phosphorus yield (RPY) under three nutrient levels (0 NPK, 100% NPK (N:P:K = 30:26:25 kg ha−1) and 100% NPK + 4 t FYM ha−1). The result showed that before soybean harvest, the RY and RNY of soybean were greater (1.0) than the corresponding values of RY and RNY of pigeon pea (0.6). This implied that competition exists for soil N between the component crops during the first half of the cropping system. It was observed that soybean harvest did not coincide with peak flowering of pigeonpea, the stage when biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) was maximum. Thus, BNF dependency of pigeonpea was low before soybean harvest and the plants suffered from N deficiency more when no fertilizer-N was applied and diminished at a high-N level. Pigeon pea attained its peak flowering after the harvest of soybean and increased its dependency on BNF when soil N was exhausted by soybean. Thus, after the harvest of soybean, RY and RNY of pigeon pea gradually increased and approached 1.0 at maturity at all nutrient levels. The RPY values showed that phosphorus was not the limiting factor to any of the crop in the system even if it was not applied. The study thus suggests that in the soybean/pigeonpea intercropping system, N is a limiting factor for growth of pigeonpea intercrop during the first half of its growth and application of 100% NPK (30 kg N) + 4 t FYM could meet N demand of pigeonpea in N deficient soils as this nutrient management option gave higher yield, root length density and profit under soybean/pigeonpea intercropping system than 100% NPK and control.  相似文献

For maximizing water retention and attaining high yields, transplanting into puddled soil (TPR) is often considered the optimal method of rice (Orzya sativa L.) establishment. Alternative management techniques like direct seeding (DSR) and deep tillage have been proposed as mechanisms to improve soil physical properties for subsequent dry-season crops, but the risks to rice are uncertain. In this full factorial study on a valley terrace in Nepal, the influence of tillage (shallow—T1, deep chisel—T2, deep chisel + moldboard plough—T3) and establishment practice (TPR, DSR) on the field water balance and rice performance were evaluated in two adjacent landscape settings (terrace edge “upland”, central terrace “lowland”). Although deep tillage had only modest influences on seepage and percolation (SP) rates in both years (Y1, Y2), landscape placement and establishment practice had significant implications for the water balance (e.g. Y2 SP cm day−1: TPR-lowland = 1.6, DSR-lowland = 2.3, TPR-upland = 4.1, DSR-upland = 6.1). During low rainfall periods, however, soil water potential and drought vulnerability were governed solely by landscape placement. Despite water balance differences, there was little evidence that rice rooting behavior was substantially modified by landscape or establishment method. Weed biomass was higher in DSR, but was uncorrelated with water balance and productivity trends. In Y1, lower SP rates and more days with continuous flooding were positively associated with rice productivity. DSR yields were significantly lower than TPR in both landscape positions, with the lowland outperforming the upland (Y1 mt ha−1: TPR-lowland = 6.4, DSR-lowland = 5.2, TPR-upland = 5.7, DSR-upland = 4.7). To determine if N dynamics were contributing to productivity differences, fertilizer nitrogen was increased from 120 to 150 kg N ha−1 in Y2. Results suggest that DSR performance is comparable – and landscape less important – if nitrogen is non-limiting (Y2 mt ha−1: TPR-lowland = 6.9, DSR-lowland = 6.5, TPR-upland = 7.0, DSR-upland = 6.5); no aspect of the field water balance was associated with yield variability in Y2. For direct seeding in N-deficient farming systems, landscape criteria may prove useful for minimizing production risks by identifying field areas with lower SP rates.  相似文献

To compare the heterosis levels among various groups of parental lines used extensively in China, identify foundational heterotic groups in parental pools and understand the relationship between genetic distance and heterosis performance, 16 parental lines with extensive genetic variation were selected from various sub-groups, and 39 hybrid combinations were generated and evaluated in Fujian and Hainan Provinces of China. The main results were as follows:(1) The 16 parental lines can be grouped into 7 sub-groups consisting of 1 maintainer sub-group and 6 restorer sub-groups;(2) Mean grain yield of the restorer lines was higher than that of the maintainer lines, and mean yield of parental lines was higher than that of the hybrid combinations;(3) The two best heterotic patterns were II-32A × G5 and II-32A × G6, moreover, the order of restorer sub-groups according to grain yield, from the highest to lowest, was G7, G6, G5, G4, G3 and G2; High specific combining ability values were observed for combinations of II-32A × G5, II-32A × G6 and Tianfeng A × G7;(4) Hybrid combinations derived from II-32A crossed with 13 restorer lines had higher yield trait values(mid-parent heterosis, better-parent heterosis, standard heterosis over check and specific combining ability) than any other combinations;(5) Genetic distance was positively correlated with panicle number, grain length and length-to-width ratio(P 0.05) and negatively correlated with grain width, grain yield, seed-setting rate, as well as mid-parent heterosis, standard heterosis over check, and specific combining ability for grain yield(P 0.01). These heterotic groups and patterns and their argonomic traits will provide useful information for future hybrid rice breeding programs.  相似文献

Using data from large, grower-managed fields we investigated the variation in yield of dryland soybean in an area with low and variable summer rainfall, and soils that are variable in depth and poor in phosphorus (P). First, using data from unfertilised, wide-row (0.7 m) crops grown under standard management between 1989 and 1992 (Series 1), we quantified the relationship between yield and W, a rainfall-based estimate of water availability during the period of pod and grain set. Separate functions were established for deep (depth  1 m) and shallow soils (0.75 m  depth  0.5 m). Second, we partially tested these functions using two independent data sets (Series 2 and 3). Third, we evaluated the effects on yield of large (18 kg P ha−1, Series 4) or moderate doses of P fertiliser (8–12 kg P ha−1) in narrow-row crops (0.35 m, Series 5). To investigate water × management interaction we (i) calculated ΔY, the difference between actual yield in Series 4 and 5 and yield calculated with the functions derived from Series 1, and (ii) tested the association between ΔY and actual W. In a set of 24 crops (Series 1), yield varied between 2.1 and 3.1 t ha−1 in deep soils and between 1.3 and 2.6 t ha−1 in shallow soils; non-linear functions described fairly well, the response of yield to W. Fertilisation with 18 kg P ha−1 increased yield by 0.6 t ha−1 irrespective of water availability. The combination of narrow rows and a moderate dose of fertiliser increased yield in 73% of crops in deep soil but only in 53% of crops in shallow soil. There was a positive association between ΔY and W in deep soil but no relationship between these variables in shallow soil. Yield responses to management were thus differentially affected by rainfall in deep and shallow soils.  相似文献

Long-term trends of crop yields have been used as a means to evaluate the sustainability of intensive agriculture. Previous studies have measured yield trends from long-term rice–rice and rice–wheat experiments in different sites from the slopes of individual site regressions of yield over time. The statistical significance of each site regression was determined but not that of the aggregate trend, which could give an indication of the magnitude and significance of global yield change. The random regression coefficient analysis (RRCA) and meta-analysis were used in this study to analyze the aggregate yield trend from several long-term experiments (LTE) across the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) and outside the IGP. Both methods show that there has been a significant (p < 0.05) declining trend in rice yield in rice–wheat LTEs in South Asia including China with the recommended rates of nutrients, but that there has been no significant change in wheat and system (rice + wheat) yields. There was no significant year × region (IGP versus non-IGP) interaction in rice and wheat yields. However, RRCA showed that the average yield trend was significantly negative (−41.0 kg ha−1 yr−1) only in the IGP. In the rice–rice LTEs, there was a significant year × site (IRRI versus non-IRRI sites) interaction during the dry season but not the wet season. Rice yields declined throughout Asia in the wet season. The average system (dry + wet season rice) yield trends were significantly negative in both IRRI and non-IRRI sites (−170.1 and −52.8 kg ha−1 yr−1, respectively) but the magnitude of yield decline was significantly greater in the IRRI sites than in the non-IRRI sites.Rice in the rice–wheat LTEs showed a significantly positive yield trend with the addition of farmyard manure (FYM) but the initial yield was generally lower with FYM than without FYM. After 15 years, yield increase due to FYM was not evident in most of the LTE.  相似文献

The pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) crop retains appreciable amounts of green foliage even after reaching physiological maturity, which if allowed to defoliate, could augment the residual benefit of pigeonpea to the following wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in a pigeonpea–wheat rotation. The effect of addition of leaves present on mature pigeonpea crop to the soil was examined on the following wheat during the 1999/2000 growing season at Patancheru (17°4′N, 78°2′E) and during the 2001–2003 growing seasons at Modipuram (29°4′N, 77°8′E). At Patancheru, an extra-short-duration pigeonpea cultivar ICPL 88039 was defoliated manually and using foliar sprays of 10% urea (30 kg/ha) and compared with a millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R.Br.) crop, naturally senesced leaf residue and no-leaf residue controls. At Modipuram, the effect of 10% urea spray treatment on mature ICPL 88039 was compared with the unsprayed control. At both locations, the rainy season crops were followed by a wheat cultivar UP 2338 at four nitrogen levels applied in a split plot design, which at Patancheru were 0, 30, 90 and 120 kg N ha−1 and at Modipuram 0, 60, 120 and 180 kg N ha−1. At Patancheru, urea spray added 0.5 t ha−1 of extra leaf litter to the soil within a week without significantly affecting pigeonpea yield. This treatment, however, increased mean wheat yield by 29% from 2.4 t ha−1 in the no-leaf residue pigeonpea or pearl millet plots to 3.1 t ha−1. At Modipuram, the foliar sprays of urea added more leaf litter to the soil than at Patancheru. Here, increase in subsequent wheat yield due to additional pigeonpea leaf litter was 7–8% and net profit 21% more than in the unsprayed control. The addition of pigeonpea leaf litter to the soil resulted in a saving of 40–60 kg N for the following wheat crops in both the environments. The results demonstrated that pigeonpea leaf litter could play an important role in the fertilizer N economy in wheat. The urea spray at maturity of the standing pigeonpea crop significantly improved this contribution in increasing wheat yield, the effect of which was additional to the amount of urea used for inducing defoliation. The practice, if adopted by farmers, may enhance sustainability of wheat production system in an environmentally friendly way, as it could reduce the amount of fertilizer N application to soil and enhance wheat yield.  相似文献

Water-use efficiency (WUEDM) is directly related to radiation-use efficiency (RUE) and inversely related to crop conductance (gc). We propose that reduced WUEDM caused by shortage of nitrogen results from a reduction in RUE proportionally greater than the fall in conductance. This hypothesis was tested in irrigated wheat crops grown with contrasting nitrogen supply; treatments were 0, 80 and 120 kg N ha−1 in 1998 and 0, 80, 120 and 160 kg N ha−1 in 1999. We measured shoot dry matter, yield, intercepted solar radiation and soil water balance components. From these measurements, we derived actual evapotranspiration (ET), soil evaporation and transpiration, WUEDM (slope of the regression between dry matter and ET), WUEY (ratio between grain yield and ET), RUE (slope of the regression between dry matter and intercepted radiation), and gc (slope of the regression between transpiration and intercepted radiation). Yield increased from 2.3 in unfertilised to an average 4.7 t ha−1 in fertilised crops, seasonal ET from 311 to 387 mm, WUEDM from 23 to 37 kg ha−1 mm−1, WUEY from 7.6 to 12.4 kg ha−1 mm−1, RUE from 0.85 to 1.07 g MJ−1, while the fraction of ET accounted for soil evaporation decreased from 0.20 to 0.11. In agreement with our hypothesis, RUE accounted for 60% of the variation in WUEDM, whereas crop conductance was largely unaffected by nitrogen supply. A greater fraction of evapotranspiration lost as soil evaporation also contributed to the lower WUEDM of unfertilised crops.  相似文献
