Wood from Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) is biologicallydegraded in exposed conditions. It also has anatomical featuresthat make it difficult to impregnate with preservatives by currentlyavailable industrial processes. In the study reported here,we used the new Linotech process to impregnate Norway sprucewood with hydrophobic linseed oil and then quantified its uptakeand dispersal in anatomically distinct wood tissues. We alsoinvestigated the effects of the wood moisture content on theresults of the impregnation. Samples (500 x 25 x 25 mm) weretaken from 15 trees in a coniferous forest in northern Sweden(64° 10' N, 160–320 m a.s.l.). The parameters forthe Linotech process were 2–3 h treatment time at 0.8–1.4MPa and 60–140°C. To determine the level of uptake, the linseed oil was extracted from the impregnated wood usingmethyl-tertiary-butyl-ether. The uptake was quantitatively analysedby comparing X-ray microdensitometry values obtained followingimpregnation both before and after oil removal. In earlywood, initial moisture content had an obvious effect on the impregnationresult. Six times more oil was taken up when the moisture contentwas greater than ~150 per cent than when it was less than 30per cent. Theoretical calculations, based on density levels, suggest that the water-filled porosity of the wood (water volumedivided by porosity volume) was positively correlated with thelinseed oil uptake, and more strongly correlated in earlywoodthan in latewood. There were also significant differences inuptake between different wood tissues; heartwood/mature woodand heartwood/juvenile wood showed 10–20 per cent weightincreases due to linseed oil uptake, compared with 30–50per cent in sapwood/mature wood. Examination by scanning electronmicroscopy confirmed these uptake patterns. The moisture contentafter impregnation was about 5 per cent, irrespective of theLinotech process parameters, tissue type and initial moisturecontent. In conclusion, the impregnation process used here resultsin high levels of well-dispersed linseed oil uptake and shouldfacilitate drying.  相似文献

The Estimation of Foliage Area from Sapwood Basal Area in Scots Pine   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
WHITEHEAD  DAVID 《Forestry》1978,51(2):137-149
A linear relationship between the cross sectional area of sapwoodat 1·3 m above ground level and the foliage area on eleventrees was determined in a Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) spacingexperiment. The relationship was independent of tree spacing. With increasing tree numbers per unit ground area tree heightremained constant, mean tree diameter was less, basal area andvolume were greater but leaf area index varied little. A model was used to predict the vertical distribution of foliagearea with height for one of the plots from the measurementsmade on the other three.  相似文献

A survey of 78 sites in southern England with approved managementplans for restocking by natural regeneration was made duringthe summers of 1993 and 1994. The following features were recorded:species, stocking, canopy cover and seed-bearing potential oftrees present in the overstorey; species and canopy cover ofthe understorey; ground cover; species, browsing damage, numberand heights of tree seedlings. In general, sites were poorlystocked with overstorey trees having an average of 135 stemsha–1 and a mean canopy cover of 36 per cent. Similarly, the understoreys were poorly developed with an average coverof only 23 per cent. Twenty-nine species of tree were foundin the overstorey, Quercus spp. and Fraxinus excelsior werethe most common. Many of the stems present had poor seed-bearingpotential. Cover of the ground flora often exceeded 75 per cent.Seedlings were present on most sites, with F. excelsior andBetula pendula being most abundant with mean seedling densitiesexceeding 10000 ha–1. Most seedlings were >20 cm tall, few exceeded 120 cm. About 30 per cent of seedlings were browsed. The results are related to current guidance and the future prospectsfor use of natural regeneration.  相似文献

We examined the short-term effects of group-selection harvestingwith seed tree retention on the diversity, abundance and establishmentof tree seedlings in a northern hardwood forest in the UpperPeninsula of Michigan (49 openings, 20 closed canopy referencesites). Three opening sizes were examined – opening radius0.5 x canopy height (267 ± 62 m2, n = 16), 0.75 x canopyheight (642 ± 85 m2, n = 17) and 1.0 x canopy height(1192 ± 155 m2, n = 16) (canopy height = 22 m). A singleyellow birch (Betula alleghaniensis Britt.) seed tree was retainedin the centre of each opening. Tree seedling density was significantlyhigher in the largest group-selection opening than at the closedcanopy reference sites (P < 0.05), the main factor for thiswas the increased proportion of yellow birch, red maple (Acerrubrum L.) and other minor species. Nevertheless, yellow birchwas still a minor component of the developing gap cohort, comprising5.9 per cent of the seedlings and 1.1 per cent of the saplings.Within openings, microsite variables, such as per cent coversof bare soil and coarse woody debris, were the best predictorsof yellow birch occurrence and density. Our results suggestthat microsite limitations and competing vegetation may greatlyreduce the efficacy of openings for ensuring the maintenanceof mid-tolerants.  相似文献

The study aimed specifically at investigating if canopy opennesswas a better predictor of the height growth of Norway spruce(Picea abies (L.) Karst.) advance regeneration than overstoreybasal area or overstorey standing volume. In 1990, a field experimentwith 3 x 2 factorial design and two replications (blocks) wasestablished in an uneven-aged Norway spruce forest. Plots hada net plot area of 30 x 30 m, each with a 10-m-wide treatedbuffer zone. Three overstorey density levels retained approximately15, 40 and 70 per cent of the pre-harvest overstorey standingvolume and were allotted to the plots. Two types of thinningthat harvested smaller trees or harvested larger trees wererandomly allocated to each pair of overstorey density plots. In mid-June 2000, canopy openness was estimated from hemisphericalphotographs taken at five marked points in the centre of eachof the plots at 0.9 m from ground to the top of the ‘fish-eye’camera lens. Regression results showed that canopy opennesswas a better predictor of height increments of spruce seedlings(0.1< height < 0.5 m), saplings (0.5 height < 2.0m), and small trees (height 2.0 m, diameter at 1.3 m height< 5 cm) than with overstorey basal area (m2 ha–1) oroverstorey standing volume (m3 ha–1). The height incrementof the spruce advance regeneration was not significantly correlatedto stand basal area or to standing volume. Overstorey basalarea in the net plots was significantly negative (P 0.05) withmean canopy openness estimates, and the r2 value was 0.40. Resultsindicated that basal area was not linearly related to canopyopenness as it increased, which might explain the lack of predictivepower of retained basal area on spruce regeneration height indense stands in boreal Sweden.  相似文献

The selective herbicide clopyralid is often used to controlcompeting Cirsium arvense in newly planted woodlands. When appliedas an overall spray at different dates in the spring (at 0.2kg acid equivalent (a.e.) ha–1) to 10 tree species (Fraxinusexcelsior, Prunus avium, Quercus robur, Acer pseudoplatanus,Populus x canadensis cv. ‘Ghoy’, Pseudotsuga menziesii,Pinus nigra ssp. laricio, Larix kaempferi, Picea abies and Piceasitchensis) it did not reduce survival, and had little effecton growth. However, some species showed distortion of the youngestsprayed leaves or needles for several weeks after treatment, particularly F. excelsior, L. kaempferi and P. x canadensis.Sequential applications of clopyralid (first at 0.1 kg a.e.ha–1 followed by 0.2 kg a.e. ha–1 after 3 weeks),which are often required to control C. arvense, did not leadto increased leaf damage or growth reduction. Mixtures of clopyralidwith selective graminicides (cycloxydim at 0.45 kg active ingredient(a.i.) ha–1; fluazifop-p-butyl at 0.38 kg a.i. ha–1and propaquizafop at 0.15 kg a.i. ha–1) did not causesignificant adverse effects on survival or growth of any species. If herbicides are required to control mixed stands of susceptibleproblem weeds such as C. arvense and grasses which are overtoppingyoung trees, these herbicide mixtures, applied as overall sprays, are less likely to cause damage to trees than attempts to usedirected applications of broad-spectrum foliar-acting herbicides.  相似文献

The supply of energy wood from young forests could be enhanced by altering the harvesting methods in integrated pulpwood and energy wood thinnings. In this study, effects of different bucking and delimbing options on the biomass division into energy wood, pulpwood and logging residue were estimated in integrated thinnings of young stands dominated by Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), Norway spruce (Picea abies) or birches (Betula spp.) in Finland. Thinning options were simulated in the harvestings of model stands created on the basis of forest inventory data. Increasing the minimum top diameter of pulpwood (MTDP) expectedly increased energy wood and decreased pulpwood yields. Depending on tree species, energy wood yield increased by 36–65% when the top diameter was increased from the regular level (6 or 7 cm) to 8 cm in whole-tree harvesting, and was more than doubled when the top diameter was increased to 10 cm. Delimbed energy wood yield was increased by 240–280% when the top diameter was increased to 10 cm. Total harvesting yield in whole-tree thinnings was slightly increased by increasing top diameter. These increments in harvesting yields and reallocations of tree biomass could have an impact on large-scale forest energy potentials.  相似文献

Diameter, height and volume increment of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestrisL.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) stands wereinvestigated in long-term thinning experiments in southern Finland. The measurement period was on average 19 years, and thinningsconsisted of five different treatments: (1) unthinned; (2) selectivethinning from below where thinning intensity was determinedaccording to the number of stems; (3) selective thinning frombelow where thinning intensity was determined according to standbasal area; (4) systematic thinning where corridors were openedat regular intervals in the stand; and (5) half-systematic thinningwhere corridors were opened at regular intervals and the remainingstrips thinned from below, i.e. a combination of selective andsystematic thinning. The selective (basal area) thinning ofScots pine resulted in a volume growth reduction of about 12per cent, but in Norway spruce it resulted in no marked reductioncompared with the unthinned plots. In both tree species, volumeincrement in the half-systematic and selective (basal area)thinning differed only slightly from each other. The systematicthinning resulted in the lowest volume increment. In the systematicthinning, the total yield (m3 ha–1) somewhat decreasedwith increasing corridor width. In half-systematic thinning,on the other hand, the total yield was not clearly related tocorridor width. A corridor accelerated the diameter incrementof the edge trees. The edge effect progressively diminishedwhen moving deeper into the strip and ended at a distance ofabout 3–4 m from the corridor edge. After the thinning, the height increment first decreased, but later on it recovered. The unthinned plots had more dead trees than the other treatments, but there were no significant differences between the othertreatments. It can be concluded that the prevailing thinningmethod in the Nordic countries, i.e. half-systematic thinning, most probably results in no significant growth and yield losses.  相似文献

A balanced diameter structure, i.e. similar crown area allocatedto the different cohorts in uneven-aged forest stands, has beentraditionally regarded as a requirement for achieving bettergrowth rates and regeneration. Long-term experiments have demonstratedthe sustainability of these structures, but quantitative datainforming on how growth and regeneration behave under a balanceddiameter structure compared with other structures have beenscarce. Similarly, vertical structure has not been properlyaccounted for as a variable that can affect growth and regenerationin uneven-aged stands. In this study a Crown Index (CI) wasused as a surrogate of a balanced diameter structure and anindicator of vertical structure. This new index is obtainedby dividing the canopy area of trees in the main and upper canopypositions in a stand by the canopy area in lower strata. A CIof 1.0 indicates, on average, an even allocation of canopy areato each of four strata, namely, a balanced structure; values>1.0 or <1.0 reflect unbalanced structures, with excesscanopy cover of large trees or medium and small trees, respectively. From data obtained from stands at relatively poorer and bettersites in uncut and partially cut old-growth stands in the CoastalCordillera of southern Chile, the effects of CI, proportionof large and small trees, canopy area, and basal area on diametergrowth of Laurelia philippiana Looser (Monimiaceae) –the most important species in these forests – and regenerationof all canopy tree species were tested. Results indicated thefollowing: the CI was most strongly correlated to the proportionof large and of small trees (i.e. structural indicator), andto a lesser extent to basal area (a density indicator); theCI was by far the best explanatory variable of growth at bettersites and of regeneration at poor sites; and, in general, greatergrowth and more seedlings occurred as CI values decreased towards1, which reflects a balanced diameter structure. Results supportthe value of balanced diameter structures in managed uneven-agedstands, but also suggest that alternative structures could besought.  相似文献

Six broadleaved tree species and Picea abies (L.) Karst. wereplanted under spruce plantations of varying densities, in Sweden.Treatments included control (994 stems ha–1), dense (538stems ha–1), sparse (294 stems ha–1) and gap (0stems ha–1) overstory treatments. There was an increasein height and diameter growth from control to sparse overstorytreatment of all underplanted tree species except for ash (Fraxinusexcelsior L.) and Norway maple (Acer platanoides L.). Site conditionsmay have hampered the growth of these species, as well as wildcherry (Prunus avium L.). Both oak (Quercus robur L.) and sprucehad greater growth in the gap treatment, relative to the othertreatments. Insecticide application did not influence seedlinggrowth or survival. The performance of beech (Fagus sylvaticaL.), lime (Tilia cordata Mill.), spruce and oak was consistentwith shade tolerance ranking. Beech and lime had a very highsurvival rate, even under the densest canopy. The growth andmortality of ash, maple and wild cherry differed significantlyfrom what was expected. This experiment demonstrated significantvariation in interspecific growth and mortality between sevenplanted tree species in relation to canopy density. Correctsite and species selection is crucial when underplanting inshelterwood systems.  相似文献

Wind Measurements in a Pine Forest During a Destructive Gale   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
OLIVER  H. R.; MAYHEAD  G. J. 《Forestry》1974,47(2):185-194
Anemometer readings were recorded during a gale which blew downsome of the trees in an even-aged 16 m stand of Pinus sylvestrison sandy soil at Thetford forest. Gusts at the top of the canopyattained 17•5 m/sec. Wind profiles agreed well with thetheoretical logarithmic profile above the canopy and the exponentialprofile below. During the gale the zero plane displacement androughness length values were similar to those at lower windspeeds. It is therefore possible to estimate wind profiles andthe forces to which a tree in the crop is subjected from measurementsof wind speed at a single point within or above the forest. The wind speeds which blew trees down were much lower than thosepredicted as necessary from ‘tree pulling’ studiesin the same forest. This discrepancy suggests that any considerationof windthrow must take into account the effects of tree vibrationon the deterioration in the strength of the root-soil complex.  相似文献

A Cupressus lusitanica spacing experiment located at Rongai,Northern Tanzania was assessed at the age of 19 years. The experimentwas planted at square spacings of 1.13 m, 1.46 m, 1.88 m, 2.43m, and 3.14 m. Other than pruning to 1.8–2.0 m at theage of 3 years and routine weeding, the experiment did not receiveany other treatment. Assessment was made of survival, branchdiameter, height, basal area, volume production, heartwood content, basic density and wood strength. Height, basal area, merchantablevolume, basic density, heartwood content, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture and compression parallel to grain were notsignificantly affected by spacing. All other variables weresignificantly affected. Mortality decreased with increasingspacing while branch diameter and breast height diameter increased.Total volume decreased with increased spacing. The implicationsof these results on future management of C. lusitanica in Tanzaniaare discussed.  相似文献

Farm-level simulators such as the Agroforestry Estate Model use as inputs either yield tables or outputs from forest modeling tools. Forest models rely upon assumptions on site index, stem diameter (DBH) distribution, wood production and tree mortality, which may or may not apply to agroforestry practices. Differences may arise because of the effects on tree growth of unusual spacings and configurations, fertilizer, pruning and grazing regimes, and tree-understory relationships as well. We examined data from published or existing field trials to determine mid- and long-term trends in tree growth and understory yields in silvopastoral practices with southern pines (Pinus spp.) in the United States. Tree DBH and height were greater in practices with improved pastures than in those with spontaneous grasses. Understory affected DBH more than height and, therefore, DBH-height relationships differed among practices. Sigmoidal models predicted that tree height will peak at different age depending on tree spacing and understory type. These changes may affect the accuracy of site indices and wood yield predictions. Livestock gains decrease linearly with increasing stand basal area and stand age, although forage yields sometimes decay exponentially. In one of the experiments, livestock gains decreased to almost zero at age 19 but with stand basal areas at that age markedly differing (14 and 25 m2 ha–1) for two different spacings. Additional data would allow to generate empirical algorithms to obtain farm-level simulations of broad application, improve economic analysis and generate hypotheses to guide future experimental work. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

In an 11-year-old stand of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis [Bong.]Carr.) application of nitrogen fertilizers, at a rate of 10kgN ha–1 month–1, increased mean diameter incrementby 12 per cent, while the further addition of phosphorus, at5 kg ha–1 month–1, resulted in a 23 per cent increase. An attack by the green spruce aphid (Elatobium albietinum Walker)occurred during the period of fertilizer addition. The mostseverely affected trees showed a reduction in diameter growthof 50 to 56 per cent but the severity of the attack betweentrees was unrelated to the treatments applied. However, fertilizerapplication did hasten the recovery of diameter growth afterdefoliation.  相似文献

Recent ideas on ‘silage’ and ‘fuel’forestry call for more information on the total harvestablewoody dry matter produced by hardwoods grown at very close spacingsin fertile soils and coppiced every few years. Yields of oven-driedstems and branches (S and B) are presented here for Populustrichocarpa Torr. and Gray, clone ‘Fritzi Pauley’.Plantings in Bedfordshire at 21 600 trees ha–1 had a meanannual increment (M.A.I.SB) of 5.2 t ha–1 y–1 overfive years, and plantings in the Cambridgeshire fens at 1480trees ha–1 produced 4.8 t ha–1 y–1 over sixyears. Fan-shaped spacing experiments, established in Midlothianby inserting cuttings through black polythene into nursery soilwith added fertilizers, gave 4.6 t ha–1 y–1 at theend of the first year and about 7 t ha–1 y–1 oneyear after coppicing, but only with over 250 000 stems ha–1producing closed canopies with leaf area indices of about 4.Similar spacing experiments planted without fertilizer on farmlandin Gloucestershire, Suffolk, Argyll and Midlothian gave averageM.A.I.SB values of 6.5–7.0 t ha–1 y–1 afterthree years with over 25 000 trees ha–1 and similar valuesafter five years with over 10 000 trees ha–1. Peak currentannual increments (C.A.I.SB) averaged 10–12 t ha–1y–1. The maximum M.A.I.SB, attained in Gloucestershire, was 10.0 t ha–1 y–1 at age 5 with over 20 000 treesha–1, with maximum C.A.I.SB values of about 14 t ha–1y–1 at age 4; M.A.I.SB values of about 11.5 t ha–1y–1 were anticipated at this site by age 6–8. Equivalentstem volumes are given. As expected, trees subjected to competitionaccumulated greater proportions of their woody biomass in stemsrather than branches. Biomass yields of fully-stocked young hardwood stands are independentof planting density. In Britain, M.A.I.SB values of 6–8t ha–1 y–1 can be obtained over 1 or 25 years byplanting 250 000 or 2000 trees ha–1, using vigorous Populusspp, Salix spp or Nothofagus procera on good sites. Advantages and problems of ‘silage’ forestry arediscussed, and it is considered that hardwood fuel coppicescould not meet more than about 2% of national energy needs. The reciprocals of individual tree weights were linearly relatedto planting density.  相似文献

Long-term research plots in multi-aged stands managed with theplenter system were assessed to evaluate sustainability of theplenter system in Central Europe. Plots primarily consistedof Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst., silver fir (Abiesalba Mill.) or European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and weremeasured for seven to 16 measurement intervals over 60–91years. Sustainability was assessed with four types of criteria:stand density, tree species diversity, basal area increment, and stand structure. Comparable even-aged stands were also analysedto compare and evaluate the performance of the measures of sustainability.Measures of species diversity, increment and stand structuraldiversity generally experienced increasing trends over timein these even-aged stands. Basal area generally increased andtrees ha-1 decreased in multi-aged stands following similarpatterns as in even-aged stands. These results suggest thatthe plenter system is still evolving and is not the model ofsustainability often assumed. Many of the measures used havepotential as indicators of sustainability in multi-aged stands.  相似文献

In the Oregon subalpine zone, extensive dieback occurs in relativelypure stands of 150 to 250-year-old mountain hemlock growingon very infertile soils. Tree death is caused by a root-rotfungus, Phellinus weirii. Young trees that become establishedfollowing death of the original forest are apparently not reinfectedby the pathogen until 80–140 years later. whereon mortalityoccurs again. We examined the effects.of this natural disturbanceand subsequent regrowth on a number of ecosystem characteristics. Decomposition rates and nitrogen availability measured by insitu exchange resins increased in the zones of young regrowth, but dropped to values common for old growth as the forest agedand the canopy closed. Phosphorus and potassium accumulationon exchange resins showed trends opposite to nitrogen, and mayhave been associated with changes in biomass. Increased nitrogenconcentrations and decreased lignin concentrations in fine rootsin the zone of young regrowth suggested improved tree nutritionunder conditions of higher N availability and lower leaf areaindex. Tree vigour, estimated as wood production per unit leafarea, also was significantly increased in the zones where youngforests grew. Circumstantial evidence suggests that increasesin nutrient availability and light following death of the matureforest improved photosynthesis leading to increased resistanceof young trees against infection by the pathogen.  相似文献

The objective was to determine stem volume models for grey andcommon alders and, based on the models, stand volume for naturallyregenerated grey and common alder stands was summarized. Basicdensity for grey and common alders and mean annual growth forstands was estimated. Net volume accretion data were collectedfrom 24 stands of grey alder (Alnus incana (L.) Moench) and31 stands of common alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertner) inSweden. The stands ranged in latitude from 58 to 64° N andfrom 56 to 62° N for grey and common alder, respectively. The mean age of grey and common alder stands was 41 years and48 years, respectively, the mean stand density 1726 stems ha–1and 1078 stems ha–1, and the mean diameter at breast height(over bark) was 20 cm and 21 cm. Stem volume equations weredeveloped for grey and common alders. The adopted model forgrey alder was based on diameter at breast height and height. For common alder, crown height was added to diameter and height.Mean standing volume (over bark) for grey and common alder standswas 428 and 374 m3 ha–1. Mean annual growth for grey andcommon alder stands was 12.0 m3 and 8.4 m3 a–1 ha–1,respectively. Basic density (under bark), for grey and commonalder stems was 359 and 427 kg m–3, respectively. Thebasic density (under bark) for the lowest twigs in the crownand in the lateral part of the crown was 415 and 421 kg m–3for grey alder and 423 and 423 kg m–3 for common alder.  相似文献

Laboratory freezing tests were used to determine seasonal changesin the frost hardiness of detached shoots of young trees ofEucalyptus gunnii (from central Tasmania), and E. niphophilaand E. debeuzevillei (‘snow gums’ from the SnowyMountains, Australian Capital Territory). The trees were growingat the Bush Estate. No difference was found between the speciesor between seedlots, all of which were from high altitudes nearthe tree line. In midwinter (February) the shoots tolerated –16°Cwithout suffering damage, and many shoots survived temperaturesas low as –18°C to –22°C. This result agreedwith Evans' (1986) observation that some trees within theseseedlots survived temperatures in the range –19°Cto –23°C in field planting during the winter 1981/82.In their native habitats the trees rarely experience temperaturesbelow –20°C. The shoots did not harden appreciably before they experiencedfrosts (in late October/early November) and so may be proneto autumn frost damage. By contrast, they were slow to dehardenin late winter and spring and did not seem prone to spring frostdamage. There were no killing air frosts during the period of this study(winter 1985/6), but many trees died, possibly as a result ofground freezing, producing root injury and/or shoot desiccation. In subalpine regions of Tasmania and the Snowy Mountains theground is covered by snow throughout the winter. Variation in frost hardiness within these hardy seedlots couldbe exploited.  相似文献

Hybrid poplars: present status and potential in Britain   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
TABBUSH  P.; BEATON  A. 《Forestry》1998,71(4):355-364
Past and potential future use of hybrid poplars for wood productionin Britain is considered, and preliminary results of trialswith new clones imported from Belgium in 1985 are given. A seriesof nine field experiments established in 1991, to a common protocol, was analysed using stepwise multiple regression. The superiorvigour of ‘Beaupré’ compared with ‘Ghoy’,‘Robusta’ and ‘Trichobel’ was clearin almost every case. For ‘Beaupré’ (Populustrichocarpa x P. deltoides) altitude emerged as the variableexplaining most variation in tree height after six growing seasons, height declining with increasing altitude. The four best siteswere characterized by low elevation and low rainfall. At the two older sites planted in 1987, at Ampthill and Bedgebury, the ‘interamerican’ hybrids (P. trichocarpa x P.deltoides) were the most vigorous, and the clones ‘Unal’and ‘Raspalje’, which were thought to be too rustsusceptible to release for commercial use in 1990, achievedsimilar stem sizes to those of ‘Beaupré’and ‘Bolelare’. The General Yield Class (based ona reference spacing of 8 x 8 m) calculated for ‘Beaupré’was 8 at Ampthill and 24 at Bedgebury. Future prospects for poplar planting are considered in relationto possible reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.  相似文献
