1. Diets containing 80, 100, 125, 150, 175 or 200 mg monensin/kg were fed to broiler chickens from 0 to 28 d in cages that prevented access to excreta.

2. Growth was depressed with 125 mg monensin or more/kg and food intake tended to decrease. Feathering was adversely affected with 175 mg or more/kg.

3. In a similar experiment, diets containing 8.8, 9.1, 9.4, 9.7 or 10.1 g total sulphur amino acids (SAA)/kg were supplemented with 125 or 80 mg monensin/kg and compared with a diet containing 8.8 g SAA and 33 mg robenidine/kg.

4. With 125 mg monensin/kg, body‐weight gain was significantly less than that of birds receiving robenidine if dietary SAA content was 9.4 g or less/kg. With 9.7 g SAA or more/kg, gain in birds receiving monensin was similar to that of birds receiving robenidine.

5. Monensin at 125 mg/kg therefore appears to increase the SAA requirement.  相似文献

1. The quantities of water gained and lost, and hence the total water balance, were determined in normal and colostomised White Leghorn laying hens at ambient temperatures of 5, 20 and 35 °G.

2. In both groups the water intake and water loss at all temperatures were well balanced.

3. Water to food ratios and water content of excreta of normal hens increased with increasing temperature.

4. The wetter excreta at 35 °C are caused by an increased urine production and not by an increased water passage through the alimentary tract.  相似文献

1. AT-402 (20 g/kg), a proprietary blend of Aloe ferox leaf extract and calcium bentonite, had no adverse effect on poult body weights at 3 weeks of age.

2. Lower body weights and lower feed consumption were observed in 4-week-old poults given 10 and 20 g/kg of AT-402 compared to poults given 0 or 5 g/kg.

3. Floor-reared poults, given either 5 or 10 g/kg AT-402 to 4 weeks of age, were significantly heavier than controls (0 g/kg AT-402), and feed conversion ratios for AT-402 given poults were improved.

4. Xylose uptake in 5 g/kg AT-402-fed poults was significantly greater than in poults given AT-402 at 0 and 10 g/kg, reflecting increased body weights of 5 g/kg AT-402-fed poults.

5. Delayed access by poults to the AT-402 until 10 d of age also improved 4-week body weights, suggesting that the AT-402 might improve performance as soon as it is given.

6. AT-402 at 5 g/kg was most efficacious as demonstrated by improved body weights and feed conversions.  相似文献

1. The present study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with Gynura procumbens on egg yolk and serum cholesterol and triglycerides, excreta microflora, laying performance and egg quality.

2. A total of 160 Hy-Line Brown layers (45 weeks old) were randomly assigned into 4 treatments on the basis of laying performance. Each treatment had 4 replicates with 10 birds each.

3. Dietary treatments were basal diet supplemented with 0 (control), 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 g/kg diet G. procumbens during 56-d feeding period.

4. Serum (d 21, 42 and 56) and egg yolk (d 28, 42 and 56) cholesterol and triglycerides concentrations were linearly reduced with increasing dietary concentrations of G. procumbens.

5. Increasing dietary concentrations of G. procumbens linearly reduced the excreta total anaerobic bacteria (d 28), Clostridium sp. and Escherichia coli (d 28 and 56) populations.

6. Overall egg production and egg mass were linearly increased, and overall feed efficiency was linearly improved with increase in dietary G. procumbens.

7. Dietary increasing concentrations of G. procumbens linearly improved egg yolk colour (d 28 and 56) and breaking strength of eggs (d 56).

8. The results obtained in the present experiment indicate that dietary supplementation with G. procumbens could reduce the egg yolk cholesterol, suppresses harmful excreta microflora and improves layers performance.  相似文献

1. A study was made of the effect of urea, added to chick diets of different protein contents with or without added methionine, on growth and body composition.

2. In chicks fed on diets containing urea, concentrations of urea were higher in the blood and digestive tract but not in the excreta, as compared with chicks fed on diets containing soyabean as the only source of protein.

3. Urea‐nitrogen was utilised better for growth when the diets were supplemented with methionine rather than unsupplemented.

4. Body fat content was decreased with the increase in protein content of the diet. Addition of urea decreased body fat less than an equivalent amount of protein.

5. There was no correlation between body fat and body weight in groups fed on diets containing 189 or 216 g protein/kg, but there was a significant correlation between these variables in groups fed on diets containing 292 g protein/kg or either concentration of urea. This phenomenon was much more pronounced in diets not supplemented with methionine.  相似文献

1. Broilers were fed on wheat‐casein or wheat‐soyabean meal diets and the excreta collected after 12 and 24 h. Samples of excreta were freeze dried or dried in a force draught oven at 60 or 80 °C.

2. Drying procedure and collection time significantly influenced the determined energy and nitrogen concentrations of the excreta.

3. Drying excreta in an oven at 60 °G proved at least as effective as freeze drying for the majority of amino acids.  相似文献

1. Four diets containing different amounts of vegetable oil and linoleic acid were fed to White Leghorn hens throughout a full laying year.

2. Egg weight was poor with the low fat basal diet but increased in relation to the amounts of maize oil (4 and 30 g/kg) included in the diet.

3. With a diet containing 30 g olive oil/kg, egg weight was similar to that obtained with the diet containing the same amount of maize oil.

4. Rearing the birds on diets containing low or moderate amounts of linoleic acid did not affect the response to fatty acid content of the layer's diet.

5. It is concluded that the requirement of the laying hen for linoleic add is not higher than 9 g/kg but that egg weight does respond to higher dietary amounts of readily absorbable fatty acids.  相似文献

1. Nine hundred and sixty 1‐d‐old unsexed broiler chicks were used in a 4×4 eight weeks trial. Proprietary starter and finisher diets were given diluted with sand in the proportions of 0, 50, 75 and 100 g sand/kg diet.

2. At 8 weeks of age, birds receiving 50 and 75 g sand/kg diet were significantly heavier than those receiving the basal diet and 100 g sand/kg diet.

3. Birds receiving 0 and 100 g sand/kg diet consumed similar quantities of basal diet and yielded similar corrected food:gain ratios.

4. Dietary dilution with sand had no significant effect on mortality, apparent carcase yield, preventriculus weight, gizzard weight and intestinal length. Crop weights were significantly greater in birds given 100 g sand/kg diet to the age of 4 weeks.

5. The litter moisture content was significantly less in pens containing birds receiving 75 or 100 g sand/kg diet after 5 weeks of age.  相似文献

1. The effects of dietary or parenteral administration of ascorbic acid on the adverse effects of excess dietary tyrosine were investigated with young male White Leghorn chicks in a 2‐week experiment.

2. Addition of 10 g ascorbic acid/kg to the control diet (without excess tyrosine) produced no beneficial effects on performance. Excess dietary tyrosine caused depressions in all measures of performance.

3. Adding 0.1, 1, 10 or 20 g ascorbic acid/kg to the diet containing excess tyrosine tended to improve performance.

4. Subcutaneous injection of 50 mg ascorbic acid/bird d to chicks receiving excess tyrosine brought about a significant improvement in body‐weight gain.

5. The elevation of plasma free tyrosine caused by excess dietary tyrosine decreased as dietary ascorbic acid increased.

6. Ascorbic acid can alleviate, though not completely counteract, the adverse effect of excess dietary tyrosine.  相似文献

1. Field cases of fishy or crabby taint in eggs have been reported, similar to those caused by feeding rapeseed meal (RSM), even though no RSM was fed. The cause was investigated using Babcock B380 and Warren SSL hens.

2. The taint was due to the inclusion of either 25 or 70 g Icelandic capelin fishmeal/kg of the diet.

3. Babcock hens produced significantly more (17%) tainted eggs than Warrens (1.2%).

4. Tainted eggs were significantly reduced to a very low proportion (1.3%) by the third day of feeding a fishmeal‐free diet.

5. The taint was due to the presence of up to 17 mg/trimethylamine kg in affected eggs.  相似文献

1. A realised heritability of 0.23 was obtained in an Australorp flock (S) selected for five generations for high egg specific gravity.

2. A comparison with an unselected control flock (C) over 50 weeks of lay in the final generation indicated a number of statistically significant correlated responses in commercially important traits in the S line in addition to the direct response of + 0.004 in specific gravity.

3. With an increase in specific gravity, there was a decrease of 3.4 in the percentage of soft‐shelled eggs laid.

4. The weight and albumen height of eggs measured within 1 hour of lay declined by 1.8 g and 2.1 Haugh units respectively.

5. There were reductions in the weight and albumen height losses of eggs stored over a 10‐d period (C 0.74, S 0.62 g and C 17.9, S 15.0 Haugh units respectively), so that at the end of this period the albumen heights in both lines were the same.

6. Average body weight and daily food intake were less by 0.28 kg and 7.5 g respectively.

7. Although there was no change in egg production, the average age at first egg was reduced by 11.3 d.  相似文献

1. The protective effect of a natural Brazilian calcium montmorillonite (CaMont) against aflatoxins was studied in broiler chickens.

2. A total of 1056-d-old Cobb male broilers were housed in experimental pens (22 chickens per pen) for 42 d. Three levels of CaMont (0, 2.5 and 5 g/kg) and two levels of aflatoxins (0 and 3 mg/kg) were assayed. Each treatment had 8 replicate pens of 22 broiler chickens each.

3. Of all the chickens tested in the experiment, the ones treated with aflatoxins were the most adversely affected. CaMont treatment at concentrations of 2.5 and 5 g/kg improved body weight of chickens at 42 d of age by 13.3% and 22.7%, increased daily feed intake by 9.7% and 24.7%, and improved the productive efficiency index of chickens by 53% and 66.5%, respectively.

4. Dietary CaMont positively affected parameters such as weight of liver, heart and gizzard; however, serum potassium concentration decreased by 15.3% compared with that of chickens given only the aflatoxin-contaminated diet.

5. CaMont did not cause adverse effects in chickens that did not receive aflatoxins.

6. CaMont at pH 8.5 partially reduced the toxic effects of aflatoxins in broilers when included at levels of 2.5 and 5 g/kg in the diet.  相似文献

1. Six diets of equal energy and nitrogen contents containing between 0 (control) and 125 g grass meal/kg were each fed to 4 groups of 42 male and 4 groups of 42 female broiler chicks, in floor pens, from 0 to 56 d of age.

2. Increments of 25 g grass meal/kg and 7.3 g maize oil/kg replaced a mixture of soyabean, wheat and barley meals in the control diet.

3. Gain: food ratio (y) of the birds decreased linearly as dietary grass meal content (x) increased such that y = 0.4295 ? 0.0032x.

4. Carcass analyses indicated that the decrease in gain : food ratio was caused by less deposition of body fat.

5. Skin colour became significantly yellower as the dietary grass meal content increased.  相似文献

1. Two‐week‐old broiler and Leghorn cockerels were fed on diets containing 0, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 or 600 g cellulose/kg in either crumble or mash form for 4 weeks.

2. Intake of the mash form of the cellulose‐diluted diets and associated body weights were less than those associated with the equivalent crumble diets which may have been due to decreased palatability of the former.

3. Broilers were unable to compensate for dietary dilution with cellulose by increasing food intake sufficiently to maintain nutrient intake with either mash or crumbled diets at any dilution.

4. At 100 g cellulose/kg for the mash diets and 100 and 200 g/kg for crumbled diets, Leghorns increased volume ingested by as much as 40% and maintained body‐weight gain and nutrient intake.

5. The results could be of value in designing feeding programmes for egg‐and meat‐type pullets.  相似文献

1. An experiment was conducted with Large White turkey poults (0 to 3 weeks of age) to study the influence of dietary fillers on the true metabolisable energy (TME) of the diet.

2. When 25 g sand/kg was substituted for the components of a basal diet, growth was not affected and the TME value of the diet was apparently higher than that of the basal diet, but not significantly so.

3. The substitution of 50 g filler/kg (25 g sand plus 25 g grit/kg) resulted in a higher TME value than the substitution of either 25 g sand/kg or 25 g grit/kg, significantly so in the latter case.

4. Substituting 25 g cellulose/kg resulted in a decrease in TME value, but not significantly so.  相似文献

1. Starter diets containing either maize or salseed meal to replace the maize were fed to chicks over a period of 2 weeks.

2. Growth rate, food intake, food utilisation and proportion of dietary nitrogen retained were much poorer in chicks receiving salseed meal.

3. The chicks receiving salseed meal developed pathological lesions in liver and kidney.

4. The red blood cell count, white blood cell count, haemoglobin concentration and packed cell volume of the chicks receiving salseed meal were lower than those of chicks receiving maize.

5. The apparent metabolisable energy value of salseed meal was determined as 6.83 MJ/kg.  相似文献

1. Growth and food conversion efficiency of broilers were reduced at low dietary choline concentrations. These effects were accentuated by low dietary total sulphur amino acids (TSAA).

2. Increased mortality, perosis and other pathological changes involving a number of tissues were observed in birds fed on a low‐choline diet.

3. Methionine replaced part of the dietary requirement for choline at low dietary choline concentrations.

4. High dietary concentrations of choline (> 1 750 mg/kg) increased the requirement for dietary TSAA.

5. Increasing the dietary choline while maintaining the TSAA at an inadequate level may decrease performance.  相似文献

1. Corticosterone (680 μg/kg body weight per day) given as six daily injections to 3‐ or 7‐week‐old chicks decreased weight gain, but increased food consumption, abdominal fat pad weight, skin dry matter, relative liver size and liver fat concentration.

2. Time of day of injection did not modify the response to corticosterone of 3‐week‐old chicks kept under natural daylight nor of 7‐week‐old broilers receiving additional illumination.

3. Pure White Rock chicks and Cornish x White Rock crossbred chicks responded similarly to corticosterone injections at 3 weeks of age.

4. Seven‐week‐old female birds treated with corticosterone had significantly larger abdominal fat pads than similarly treated males.

5. Corticosterone injection was more effective in increasing the proportion of liver fat in 7‐week‐old birds than in 3‐week‐old ?hicks.

6. The increased amount of abdominal and liver fat due to corticosterone injections administered at 3 weeks of age disappeared after 3 weeks, but growth depression was still evident.  相似文献

1. Male birds of a laying strain had permanent catheters introduced into the hepatic portal vein via the coccygeo‐mesenteric vein.

2. Infusions of 5 ml of 40, 100 or 150 g glucose/1 solution over 2 min caused a non‐significant depression of food intake compared with a 9 g NaCl/1 control solution.

3. Infusions of a range of isotonic glucose solutions (0 to 60 g glucose/1, 300 mosm) at 1.4 ml/min over 3 h caused food intake depression within the 3‐h period (P<0.01) proportional to the logarithm of the dose.

4. This effect was not observed when 60 g glucose/1 was infused at the above rates into the jugular vein.

5. Starvation of the bird for 21 h accentuated the depressive effect of glucose load on food intake, especially when birds were not given food until after the 3‐h infusion.

6. The infusion of solutions of sodium chloride (1.0 to 13.0 g/1, 33 to 433 mosmoles/kg) at. 1.4 ml/min over 3 h stimulated food intake within the range of 3 to 7 g NaCl/1 (100 to 233 mosm) but suppressed intake outside this range. This can be interpreted as a possible interaction with water intake control.

7. Infusion of 20 ml of glucose solution (0, 18 or 54 g/l) over 5 min into the crop and 0, 3.75 or 60 g glucose/1 at 1.4 ml/min over 3 h into the hepatic portal vein, caused an additive, linear depression of food intake.  相似文献

1. The disposition kinetics and the plasma availability of moxifloxacin were investigated in Japanese quails (Coturnix japonica) following different routes of administration at 5 mg/kg body weight.

2. Tissue residue profiles (liver, kidney, lung and muscle) and plasma were also studied after multiple intramuscular and oral administrations of 5 mg/kg body weight, once daily for 5 consecutive days.

3. Following intravenous injection, plasma concentration–time curves were best described by a two-compartment open model.

4. After intramuscular and oral administration of moxifloxacin, the peak plasma concentrations (Cmax) were 2.14 and 1.94 μg/ml and were obtained at 1.40 and 1.87 h (Tmax), post administration, respectively.

5. The systemic bioavailabilities following intramuscular and oral administration, respectively, of moxifloxacin were 92.48 and 87.94%.

6. Tissue concentrations following i.m. and p.o. administration were highest in liver and kidney, respectively, and decreased in the following order: plasma, lung and muscle. No moxifloxacin residues were detected in tissues and plasma after 120 h after i.m. or oral administration.  相似文献
