Soluble fiber-rich tender cluster bean pod ( Cyamopsis tetragonoloba ) (CB) and a combination of CB and capsaicin, a thermogenic spice compound, were evaluated for weight-reducing effect in high-fat-fed Wistar rats. Freeze-dried CB and capsaicin were included at 15 and 0.015%, respectively, in the high-fat (30%) diet for 8 weeks. Excretion of dietary fat, fat deposition in adipose, and activities of enzymes involved in lipolysis and lipogenesis were examined. CB and capsaicin additively decreased weight gain in high-fat-fed rats, without affecting feed intake. The antiobesity potential of CB was through impeding fat accumulation in adipose and enhancing fat excretion. Decrease in adipose triglyceride by the combination was higher than their individual effects and was accompanied by enhanced activity of hormone-sensitive lipase-facilitating mobilization of depot fat. Increased fecal excretion of triglycerides by the combination of CB and capsaicin was additive. Whereas the hypolipidemic effect of the combination was higher than their individual effects, the decrease in hepatic cholesterol and triglycerides produced by the combination was additve. Thus, dietary CB significantly checked weight gain and adverse changes in lipid profile in high-fat-fed condition amounting to a cardioprotective effect. These beneficial effects were potentiated by coadministration of capsaicin.  相似文献

In animal studies, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) intake results in increased fecal fat excretion; however, the effects on dietary saturated fatty acids (SATs) and trans-fatty acids (TRANS) remain unknown. This study investigated the effect of HPMC on digestion and absorption of lipids in male Golden Syrian hamsters fed either freeze-dried ground pizza (PZ), pound cake (PC), or hamburger and fries (BF) supplemented with dietary fiber from either HPMC or microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) for 3 weeks. We observed greater excretion of SATs and TRANS by both diets supplemented with HPMC or MCC as compared to the feed. SAT, TRANS, and unsaturated fatty acids (UNSAT) contents of feces of the PZ diet supplemented with HPMC were 5-8 times higher than diets supplemented with MCC and tended to be higher in the PC- and BF-HPMC supplemented diets as well. We also observed significant increases in fecal excretion of bile acids (2.6-3-fold; P < 0.05), sterols (1.1-1.5-fold; P < 0.05), and unsaturated fatty acids (UNSAT, 1.7-4.5-fold; P < 0.05). The animal body weight gain was inversely correlated with the excretion of fecal lipid concentrations of bile acids (r = -0.56; P < 0.005), sterols (r = -0.48; P < 0.005), SAT (r = -0.69; P < 0.005), UNSAT (r = -0.67; P < 0.005), and TRANS (r = -0.62; P < 0.005). Therefore, HPMC may be facilitating fat excretion in a biased manner with preferential fecal excretion of both TRANS and SAT in hamsters fed fast food diets.  相似文献

Soluble fibers isolated from the seeds of Cassia tora Linn. (SFC) have attracted considerable attention in recent years due to their phenomenal rheological behavior. In this study were investigated the effects of SFC on lipid metabolism. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed one of three experimental diets, a normal diet, a high-cholesterol diet, or a high-cholesterol diet with 5% SFC, for 5 weeks. The serum concentration of total cholesterol in rats fed SFC was 27% lower (p < 0.05) compared to that of the control group, but the serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level was increased in the SFC group. Liver total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were reduced significantly (p < 0.05) in rats fed the SFC diet. In addition, fecal bile acid and lipid excretion was significantly increased by SFC consumption. These results indicate that SFC enhances fecal lipid excretion and may cause a reduction in serum and hepatic lipid concentrations in rats.  相似文献

Absorption of dietary anthocyanins is limited; however, fecal anthocyanin excretion has been rarely studied. We developed a method for extraction and analysis of fecal anthocyanins. Aqueous methanol (60%) maximized extraction efficiency (approximately 88%). Severe anthocyanin degradation (monitored by high-performance liquid chromatography) was observed in feces stored at -18 degrees C; therefore, storage time should be minimized and lower temperatures used. Fecal and cecal content samples were collected from 32 rats receiving either chokeberry, bilberry, grape-enriched (3.85 g monomeric anthocyanin per kg diet), or control diet for 14 weeks. Fecal anthocyanin concentrations were significantly different among groups (0.7/1.8/2.0 g/kg wet feces, chokeberry/bilberry/grape). Anthocyanin profiles of cecal contents and feces were similar. Losses in the intestinal contents were high for anthocyanin glucosides, moderate for galactosides, and negligible for arabinosides or xylosides. Acylation or diglucosylation enhanced anthocyanin stability. High anthocyanin concentration in the fecal content may favor anthocyanin absorption into the colon epithelial cells, resulting in potential health benefits.  相似文献

如何有效地去除污染区农作物体内持久性有机污染物(POPs),以规避作物POPs污染风险、保障农产品安全,实现污染土壤的资源化利用备受国际关注。植物体内含有内生细菌(EB),其数量和种类丰富,且能重新定殖在目标植物组织的间隙或细胞内部,促进植物生长、提高植物抗逆性,甚至减少植物体内POPs含量。能否利用植物-功能EB的微生态系统,从污染区植物体内获得具有POPs降解特性的功能EB,并将其重新定殖在目标农作物中,进而降低作物体内POPs含量、规避作物污染风险?本文综述了农业生态系统中作物体内POPs的污染现状及植物对POPs的吸收调控作用,系统地评估了具有POPs降解特性的功能EB在目标植物体内的定殖、传导及效能,阐释了功能EB调控植物体内POPs污染的作用机理,展望了功能EB定殖在作物体内调控其POPs污染的优点及仍需解决的技术问题,旨在为利用植物-功能EB的微生态系统规避作物体内POPs污染风险、保障农产品安全和人群健康提供新思路和途径。  相似文献

The rapid rise in obesity-related diseases has increased interest in oral and dietary agents that disrupt fat metabolism, resulting in the excretion of dietary lipids in the feces. In this study, a rapid and convenient liquid chromatography method to comprehensively analyze fecal lipids in a single injection was developed. An evaporative light-scattering detector (ELSD) for routine analysis or atmosphere pressure chemical ionization tandem mass spectrometry [(+)APCI-MS/MS] for structural confirmation and peak purity was used. The method was applied to characterize lipid components of feces from hamsters fed high-fat diets with either 5% microcrystalline cellulose or 5% hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) fibers, to test the effect of HPMC on lipid metabolism. HPMC is a nonfermentable, soluble cellulose fiber. The fecal lipid components identified using this method includes two secondary bile acids, deoxycholic acid, lithocholic acid, and neutral sterols including cholesterol, coprostanol, stigmastanol, and sitosterol. The profile of fecal lipid components was compared between two groups. It was found that the bile acid excretion was increased 2-fold in HPMC-fed hamsters. More interestingly, diacylglycerides and triacylglycerides were detected in feces from hamsters on HPMC-included high-fat diets. We believe that this is the first report of excretion of acylglycerides following neutral soluble fiber feeding.  相似文献

以鲫鱼(Carassius auratus)为试验材料,研究了经不同浓度的2,2’,4,4’-四溴联苯醚(PBDE-47)和十溴联苯醚(PBDE-209)暴露后,鲫鱼体内DNA损伤产物8-羟基脱氧鸟苷(8-OHdG)的含量及p53蛋白的水平。结果表明,采用浓度为0.10~5.00mg·L^-1的PBDE-47和10.0—50.0mg·L^-1的PBDE-209处理鲫鱼20d,除了0.10mg·L^-1PBDE-47和10.0mg·L^-1PBDE-209浓度组的8-OHdG和p53蛋白含量与对照组相比无显著差异(P〉0.05),其余各浓度组的8-OHdG和p53蛋白含量均随PBDE-47和PBDE-209浓度增加而逐渐上升,呈显著的相关关系(P〈0.01),且8-OHdG和p53蛋白之间也呈显著的正相关。说明PBDE-47和PBDE-209对鲫鱼组织的DNA产生了损伤,具有遗传毒性影响。  相似文献

Male adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups in a 2 x 3 factorial design and fed diets containing different levels of Tremella fuciformis Berk (TFB) dietary fiber (0, 5, or 10%) and 1 g of cholesterol/100 g of diet with or without 0.7% Nebacitin for 4 weeks. TFB contained 6.2% soluble dietary fiber and 57.3% insoluble dietary fiber. The results showed that the serum LDL-cholesterol, hepatic total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were significantly decreased (P < 0.05) in the rats fed diets with TFB content with or without Nebacitin. However, the serum total cholesterol, VLDL-cholesterol, and triglyceride levels were significantly decreased (P < 0.05) by Nebacitin. In feces, the presence of TFB (T5, T10, AT5, and AT10) in the diet significantly increased the total neutral steroids and bile acid excretions and undigested fiber concentrations as compared to T0 or AT0. In the small intestine, the Nebacitin diets increased the weights of both cecum and colon-rectum contents and lowered short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) concentrations of serum and cecal contents more than no Nebacitin diets did. It was suggested that the hypocholesterolemic effect of TFB dietary fiber may be mediated by the increase in fecal neutral steroids and total bile acids excretion and the increase in SCFA productions. The TFB edible mushroom dietary supplement altered the intestinal physiology of the rats.  相似文献

Nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) is also called hepatic steatosis and has become an emergent liver disease in developed and developing nations. This study was to exam the preventive effects of taurine (Tau) on the development of hepatic steatosis via a hamster model. Although hepatic steatosis of hamsters was induced by feeding a high-fat/cholesterol diet, drinking water containing 0.35 and 0.7% Tau improved (p < 0.05) the serum lipid profile. Meanwhile, the smaller (p < 0.05) liver sizes and lower (p < 0.05) hepatic lipids in high-fat/cholesterol dietary hamsters drinking Tau may be partially due to higher (p < 0.05) fecal cholesterol, triacylglycerol, and bile acid outputs. In the regulation of lipid homeostasis, drinking a Tau solution upregulated (p < 0.05) low-density lipoprotein receptor and CYP7A1 gene expressions in high-fat/cholesterol dietary hamsters, which result in increased fecal cholesterol and bile acid outputs. Drinking a Tau solution also upregulated (p < 0.05) peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPAR-α) and uncoupling protein 2 (UPC2) gene expressions in high-fat/cholesterol dietary hamsters, thus increasing energy expenditure. Besides, Tau also enhanced (p < 0.05) liver antioxidant capacities (GSH, TEAC, SOD, and CAT) and decreased (p < 0.05) lipid peroxidation (MDA), which alleviated liver damage in the high-fat/cholesterol dietary hamsters. Therefore, Tau shows preventive effects on the development of hepatic steatosis induced by a high-fat/cholesterol dietary habit.  相似文献

Sorghum bran is concentrated with procyanidins (predominately polymers), which may be beneficial for health in humans; however, the bioavailability of procyanidins is not well-understood. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were fed an AIN93G diet containing 0, 5, 10, 20, or 40% Hi-tannin sorghum bran (n = 5-7 for each group) for 50 days. Sorghum bran contained 23.3 mg/g of procyanidins. The urinary excretions of catechin, epicatechin, methylated catechins, and phenolic acids were analyzed using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Sorghum bran dose dependently increased the urinary excretion of catechin (0-2.2 nmol/day) and 3'-O-methylcatechin (0-9.5 nmol/day). Their serum concentrations also increased with dose (range of 0-14 nM for 3'-O-methylcatechin). Among the 14 phenolic acids analyzed, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxybenzoic acid, and 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid dominated in the serum (1.8-8 micromol/L). In the urine, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, and 3-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid dominated and their excretion increased significantly with the level of sorghum bran in the diet. The summed phenolic acid excretion was 0.8 micromol/day in the control group and increased to 23 micromol/day for 40% sorghum bran group. The hippuric acid excretion ranged from 2.2 to 16.2 micromol/day and peaked in the 10% sorghum bran group. On the basis of chromic oxide, a nonabsorbable marker, total procyanidins and polymers disappeared progressively, and significant degradation occurred in the cecum and colon. Catechins and procyanidins in sorghum were bioavailable; however, bacteria-derived phenolic acids were the predominant metabolites of procyanidins. Procyanidins degraded in the gastrointestinal tract. Depolymerization was not observed.  相似文献

The dietary absorption and tissue distribution of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) was investigated in 4 nonlactating Simmental cows. During Phase 1 the dietary uptake and fecal excretion of these chemicals were measured over 10 days using feed containing background levels of PCDD/Fs that were primarily of atmospheric origin. Following this, two of the animals were sacrificed and samples of different fat, muscle, and organ tissues were collected. In Phase 2 the remaining two animals were fed grass silage from a field which had a history of repeated sewage sludge applications. During the last 10 days of the 27-day feeding period, the dietary uptake and fecal excretion of PCDD/Fs were again quantified, after which these two animals were also sacrificed and sampled. The dietary absorption of the PCDD/Fs in the nonlactating cows agreed well with values reported in Part I of this series for lactating cows. In the two animals sacrificed at the end of Phase 1 that were close to a contaminant steady state, the lipid-normalized concentrations were similar in almost all tissues. The exceptions were the liver, and to a lesser extent the lungs and the spleen, which had higher levels; and the degree of elevation increased with the degree of chlorination of the PCDD/Fs. During Phase 2, the animals' body burden of several of the PCDD/F congeners increased markedly. The tissue analyses indicated that the chemicals were initially sequestered primarily in the liver, from where they were redistributed to the other tissues and organs. The rate of redistribution was related to the perfusion of the organ/tissue and decreased in the order lung>spleen>kidney>muscle>fat tissue. The rate of redistribution also decreased with increasing degree of chlorination of the PCDD/F congeners. Whereas virtually all of the 1,2,3,7,8-Cl(5)DD taken up during Phase 2 had been deposited in fat tissue by the end of the 27-day feeding period, three-quarters of the Cl(8)DD was still in the liver.  相似文献

为阐明毒氟磷在动物体内的分布代谢特征,并深入认识毒氟磷的安全性和膳食风险,本研究选择白羽产蛋鸡为试验对象,[噻唑基-2-14C]-毒氟磷为同位素示踪剂,研究了毒氟磷在产蛋鸡体内的排泄分布特征。结果表明,毒氟磷在产蛋鸡体内排泄水平高,首次给药24 h后即排泄出当日给药量的82.04%,连续给药7 d后的累计排泄率为82.24%。毒氟磷在组织中的总残留仅占引入量的3.81%,其中胃中残留量占比相对最高,占引入量的2.14%,而肺、肾、脂肪、胰腺中的放射性残留量均不超过引入量的0.01%,膳食评估结果表明在上述内脏组织中的毒氟磷残留无膳食风险。蛋、肌肉、心、脑、脾、卵巢等组织中未检测到放射性残留。本研究为科学评价毒氟磷在家禽中的安全性提供了试验依据。  相似文献

To investigate the influence of a high-fat diet on HCB distribution and accumulation, pregnant rats in study 1 were fed a high-fat or control diet containing HCB, and, in study 2, pregnant rats were given a single HCB dose by intragastric gavage and HCB-free high-fat or control diet. In study 1, the high-fat diet group had higher HCB concentrations in fat tissues and liver than did the controls. In study 2, although the total amounts of HCB in the fat tissue and liver were greater in the high-fat diet group than in the controls, no significant differences in HCB concentration were observed between the two groups. The high-fat diet group also showed more fecal excretion of HCB. Therefore, HCB accumulation in rats fed a high-fat diet was enhanced more by continuous exposure to HCB than by administration of a single dose.  相似文献

To prevent health problems of humans exposed to dioxin, it is important to enhance the fecal excretion of dioxin stored in the body. The effects of seaweed such as wakame, hiziki, and kombu on the gastrointestinal absorption and reabsorption of 17 types of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (PCDD) and polychlorinated dibenzofuran (PCDF) congeners was investigated in Wistar rats. Rats were fed 4 g of the basal diet or a seaweed diet containing PCDD and PCDF standard solution [233 ng of toxic equivalents (TEQ)/kg of body weight] once during the experiment period. In the group fed the 10% wakame diet, the levels of fecal excretion of PCDD and PCDF congeners were higher (p < 0.01) from days 1 to 5 by 2.8-fold for 2,3,7,8-TCDD, by 4.0-fold for 1,2,3,7,8-pentaCDD, by 3.4-fold for 1,2,3,4,7,8-hexaCDD, by 3.2-fold for 1,2,3,6,7,8-hexaCDD, by 2.5-fold for 1,2,3,7,8,9-hexaCDD, by 1.7-fold for 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptaCDD, by 1.1-fold for 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9-octaCDD, by 3.0-fold for 2,3,7,8-tetraCDF, by 3.7-fold for 1,2,3,7,8-pentaCDF, by 3.7-fold for 2,3,4,7,8-pentaCDF, by 3.2-fold for 1,2,3,4,7,8-hexaCDF, by 3.0-fold for 1,2,3,6,7,8-hexaCDF, by 3.2-fold for 1,2,3,7,8,9-hexaCDF, by 2.9-fold for 2,3,4,6,7,8-hexaCDF, by 1.6-fold for 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptaCDF, by 2.2-fold for 1,2,3,4,7,8,9-heptaCDF, and by 1.2-fold for 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9-octaCDF than those of the basal group, respectively. Rats were fed 4 g of the basal diet containing PCDD and PCDF standard solution (2991 ng of TEQ/kg of body weight) once on day 1 and then place on the basal diet for 7 days. After 1 week, the rats were fed either the basal diet or seaweed diet from days 8 to 35. In the group fed the 10% wakame diet, the levels of fecal excretion of PCDD and PCDF congeners were higher (p < 0.01 or p < 0.05) during the period from days 8 to 35 by 1.7-fold for 2,3,7,8-TCDD, by 1.8-fold for 1,2,3,7,8-pentaCDD, by 2.0-fold for 1,2,3,4,7,8-hexaCDD, by 1.9-fold for 1,2,3,6,7,8-hexaCDD, by 1.6-fold for 1,2,3,7,8,9-hexaCDD, by 1.5-fold for 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptaCDD, by 2.0-fold for 2,3,4,7,8-pentaCDF, by 2.1-fold for 1,2,3,4,7,8-hexaCDF, by 1.9-fold for 1,2,3,6,7,8-hexaCDF, by 1.7-fold for 2,3,4,6,7,8-hexaCDF, by 1.5-fold for 1,2,3,4,6,7,8-heptaCDF, and by 1.9-fold for 1,2,3,4,7,8,9-heptaCDF than those of the basal group, respectively. These findings suggest that the administration of seaweed such as wakame is efficient in preventing the absorption and reabsorption of dioxin from the gastrointestinal tract and might be useful in treatment of humans exposed to dioxin.  相似文献

The mechanism of the hypocholesterolemic effect of olive oils was investigated in 60 Wistar rats adapted to cholesterol-containing and cholesterol-free diets. The rats were divided in six diet groups of 10. The control group was fed only basal diet (BD), which contained wheat starch, casein, cellulose, and mineral and vitamin mixtures. For the five other groups, 10 g/100 g virgin (virgin group) or lampante (lampante group) olive oils, 1 g/100 g cholesterol (chol group), or both cholesterol and oil (chol/virgin and chol/lampante groups) were added to the BD. The experiment lasted 4 weeks. Before and after the experiment the bile was collected, and its flow and biliary bile acids and cholesterol concentrations were registered. Plasma lipids, liver cholesterol, plasma antioxidative potential (TRAP), fecal output, fecal bile acids, and fecal cholesterol excretion were measured. Groups did not differ before the experiment. After the experiment significant hypocholesterolemic and antioxidant effects were registered mainly in groups of rats fed cholesterol-containing diets supplemented with both olive oils (chol/virgin and chol/lampante). Significant increases in the bile flow and in the bile cholesterol and bile acids concentrations were observed (19.2% and 16.9%, 30.5% and 18.2%, and 79.6% and 45.6% for the chol/virgin and chol/lampante groups, respectively). Also, significant increases of the fecal output and fecal excretion of bile acids and cholesterol in rats of these groups were found. In conclusion, olive oils positively affect plasma lipid metabolism. The hypocholesterolemic effect of olive oils is genuine and is most likely mediated through increases in bile flow and biliary cholesterol and bile acids concentrations and subsequent increases in their fecal excretion.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine effects of konjac glucomannan (KGM) in a high fat corn oil diet on risk factors of colon carcinogenesis, that is, fecal β-glucuronidase, mucinase, and bile acids, and on preventive factors, that is, fecal microflora and cecal short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 8 animals per group) were fed a normal-fat fiber-free (5% corn oil, w/w) or high-fat (25% corn oil, w/w) diet containing no fiber, KGM (5%, w/w), or inulin (5%, w/w, as a prebiotic control) for 4 weeks. Results indicated that the high-fat fiber-free diet significantly elevated the fecal β-glucuronidase and mucinase activities and total bile acid concentration and decreased cecal SCFA contents, as compared with its normal-fat counterpart. The incorporation of KGM, as well as inulin, into the high-fat fiber-free diet beneficially reduced the fecal β-glucuronidase and mucinase activities and lithocholic acid (secondary bile acid) concentration. Although KGM elevated the daily fecal total bile acid excretion, the change was due to the primary, instead of the secondary, bile acids. In addition, KGM beneficially promoted the daily fecal excretion of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli and cecal SCFA contents, as compared with the high-fat fiber-free diet. Therefore, the present study suggests that KGM potentially attenuated the high fat-induced risk in colon carcinogenesis.  相似文献

Methylcellulose (MC) is ingested by humans in food and pharmaceutical formulations. The functional properties of MC like those of other linear polymers depend primarily on polymer length or molar mass for largely linear polymers. Although many studies in animals and humans have shown complete excretion of MC, in vitro human fecal fermentation studies indicate that MC can be degraded and presumably lose some of its functionality. In this study, MC polymer distribution in the feces from rats fed a diet containing 8% methylcellulose were compared to the fed MC. The water-soluble polymers in the feces were separated by a size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and the polymer distributions determined by multiple angle laser light scattering (MALLS). Detection of the fluorescent MC-calcofluor complex was used to confirm the identity of the eluting MC peak. All dietary MC was recovered in the feces. There is a small shift (P < 0.06) in the weight-averaged molecular weight of polymer distribution of MC extracted from the feces to 2.71 +/- 0.15 x 10(5) g/mol from 3.15 +/- 0.02 x 10(5) g/mol in the standard. There is also an increase in the polydispersity from 1.21 in the standard to 1.8 in the fecal extract. The distribution of the substituted methoxylated glucose monomers by gas chromatography also confirms the stability of MC fed to rats. The amount of actual hydrolysis is estimated to be about 0.1 glycosidic linkage/molecule. MC is not easily determined by standard dietary fiber methods, and SEC with MALLS and/or fluorescence may be a useful alternative.  相似文献

The effect of wheat bran (AACC hard red) and bran particle size on fat and fiber digestibility and gastrointestinal tract measurements were investigated with diets containing 5.7–10.7% dietary fiber. Fifty‐six male weanling Sprague‐Dawley rats were randomly assigned to four diets containing 5% cellulose (C5); 10.5% cellulose (C10); 21.5% coarse (2 mm) wheat bran (CB); or 22.2% fine (0.5 mm) wheat bran (FB) in a sixweek study. Dietary fiber digestibilities were significantly different (P < 0.05) among treatment diets (CB > FB > C5 > C10) but there was no effect in fat digestibility among treatments. High‐fiber diets fed to rats resulted in significantly greater wet and dry fecal weights than low‐fiber diets. Bran diets resulted in significantly higher fecal moisture than cellulose diets. Cecum lengths increased significantly with bran diets compared with cellulose diets. The CB diet resulted in significantly higher stomach weights than with cellulose diets. Stomachs were heavier and cecal lengths were greater with bran diets than with cellulose diets; however, a high‐cellulose diet resulted in increased colon weight. Except for higher fiber digestibility of coarse bran, bran particle size had no significant effects. Healthful effects of wheat bran may be associated with gastrointestinal morphology and function. Fecal bulking and decreased intestinal transit time can prevent constipation and may dilute or reduce absorption of toxic or carcinogenic metabolites, thus improving gastrointestinal health and lowering the risk of tumor development and cancer.  相似文献

The dietary origin of lignan phytoestrogens is still poorly understood more than 20 years after their discovery in human urine. Their level in urine has been associated with the consumption of dietary fiber. This paper reports the study of the excretion of enterolactone, assayed by a time-resolved fluoroimmunoassay, in rats fed a diet supplemented with 15% wheat bran, one of the main sources of fiber in Western countries. Enterolactone excretion regularly increased during the two weeks of the diet to reach a value of 45 nmol/day. The level of excretion also increased upon preadaptation to ferulic acid, structurally related to secoisolariciresinol, an established precursor of enterolactone in flaxseeds, and decreased upon preadaptation to potato starch rich in fiber. These results show that the formation of lignans from wheat bran is influenced by the diet, possibly because of an adaptation of the colonic microflora.  相似文献

Anthocyanins, the red/blue pigments found in plants, are polyphenolic compounds consumed by humans and are part of a normal diet. Recent studies have shown that anthocyanins have substantial bioactivity including antioxidant activity and therefore may have beneficial effects on human health. Anthocyanins are a group of over 500 compounds of diverse structures containing different core phenolic aglycons and conjugated with sugars in a variety of glycosylation patterns. In this study, we have investigated the bioabsorption of 15 anthocyanins with structures containing different aglycons and conjugated sugars extracted from blueberry, boysenberry, black raspberry, and blackcurrant in both humans and rats. Intact and unmetabolized anthocyanins were detected in urine of rats and humans following dosing for all molecular structures investigated, thus demonstrating that anthocyanins with diverse molecular structure and from different dietary sources are bioavailable at diet relevant dosage rates. In addition, the relative concentrations of anthocyanins detected in urine following dosing varied, indicating that differences in bioavailability are due to variations in chemical structure. Our results suggest that the nature of the sugar conjugate and the phenolic aglycon are both important determinants of anthocyanin absorption and excretion in rats and humans.  相似文献
