A process for the value addition of solid waste from two-phase olive oil extraction or "alperujo" that includes a hydrothermal treatment has been suggested. In this treatment an autohydrolysis process occurs and the solid olive byproduct is partially solubilized. From this water-soluble fraction can be obtained besides the antioxidant hydroxytyrosol several other compounds of high added value. In this paper three different samples of alperujo were characterized and subjected to a hydrothermal treatment with and without acid catalyst. The main soluble compounds after the hydrolysis were represented by monosaccharides xylose, arabinose, and glucose; oligosaccharides, mannitol and products of sugar destruction. Oligosaccharides were separated by size exclusion chromatography. It was possible to get highly purified mannitol by applying a simple purification method.  相似文献

The application of a new process based on the hydrothermal treatment of olive oil waste (alperujo) led to a final solid rich in pomace olive oil (POO) enriched in minor components with functional activities. The effects of the time (15-90 min) and the temperature (150, 160, and 170 °C) of the thermal processing of alperujo on the yield, quality, and enrichment of minor components of crude POO were evaluated. The final treated solid had an increase in oil yield up to 97%, with a reduction in solids up to 35.6-47.6% by solubilization. Sterols increased up to 33%, aliphatic alcohols increased up to 92%, triterpenic alcohols increased up to 31%, squalene increased up to 43%, tocopherols increased up to 57%, and oleanolic acid increased up to 16% by the new treatment. The increase maintains a high concentration of functional substances probably even in the refining POO.  相似文献

The addition of organic amendments to soil increases soil organic matter content and stimulates soil microbial activity. Thus, processes affecting herbicide fate in the soil should be affected. The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of olive oil production industry organic waste (alperujo) on soil sorption-desorption, degradation, and leaching of diuron [3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea] and terbuthylazine [N2-tert-butyl-6-chloro-N4-ethyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine], two herbicides widely used in olive crops. The soils used in this study were a sandy soil and a silty clay soil from two different olive groves. The sandy soil was amended in the laboratory with fresh (uncomposted) alperujo at the rate of 10% w/w, and the silty clay soil was amended in the field with fresh alperujo at the rate of 256 kg per tree during 4 years and in the laboratory with fresh or composted alperujo. Sorption of both herbicides increased in laboratory-amended soils as compared to unamended or field-amended soils, and this process was less reversible in laboratory-amended soils, except for diuron in amended sandy soil. Addition of alperujo to soils increased half-lives of the herbicides in most of the soils. Diuron and terbuthylazine leached through unamended sandy soil, but no herbicide was detected in laboratory-amended soil. Diuron did not leach through amended or unamended silty clay soil, whereas small amounts of terbuthylazine were detected in leachates from unamended soil. Despite their higher sorption capacity, greater amounts of terbuthylazine were found in the leachates from amended silty clay soils. The amounts of dissolved organic matter from alperujo and the degree of humification can affect sorption, degradation, and leaching of these two classes of herbicides in soils. It appears that adding alperujo to soil would not have adverse impacts on the behavior of herbicides in olive production.  相似文献

The solid waste from two-phase olive oil extraction or "alperujo" was submitted to steam treatment at high pressure or temperature, 200 degrees C for 5 min, in the presence and absence of mild acid catalyst. This treatment made easier the separation of the solid and liquid fractions. Besides the recovery of certain valuable components from the liquid fraction (the antioxidant hydroxytyrosol, low molecular weight oligosaccharides, glucose, mannitol, etc.), the major components of the solid residue could be also exploited. In this study, changes in composition of alperujo due to steam treatment were determined. The process reduced appreciably the hemicellulose concentrations (75-88%), removed a substantial portion of Klason lignin and protein (50%), and led to an extensive solubilization of alperujo (55-67%). Cellulose was very resistant to autohydrolysis and acid-catalyzed hydrolysis, so the solid residue was enriched in fat (13-18 g/100 g of dry steam-treated alperujo) and cellulose (15-25 g/100 g of dry and defatted steam-treated alperujo). The steam-treated material can be efficiently saccharified with commercial cellulase. The best hydrolysis yields were attained, up to 80%, when the treated material was post-treated with NaOH. The possibility of using this steam-treated alperujo in animal feeding was evaluated by an in vitro digestibility test, using the pepsin-cellulase method. The treatment affected positively the nutritional characteristics of alperujo with an increase in its in vitro (dry and organic matter) digestibility (8-10% higher than untreated material). In vitro digestibility and cellulose accessibility to enzymatic hydrolysis were improved by the alkali post-treatment.  相似文献

Hydroxytyrosol and other olive biophenols (OBPs) such as tyrosol, verbascoside, apigenin-7-glucoside, and alpha-taxifolin have been extracted from alperujo by using static-dynamic superheated liquids. Multivariate methodology has been used to carry out a detailed optimization of the extraction. Under the optimal working conditions no further extraction of the target analytes was achieved after 27 min (up to 2800 and 1500 mg/kg of hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol, respectively), so complete removal of them within this interval was assumed. The extract was injected into a chromatograph-photodiode array detector assembly for individual separation-quantification. The efficacy of ethanol/water mixtures to extract OBPs from alperujo has been demonstrated and compared with that of a conventional stirring-based method. These less toxic extractant mixtures are of interest with a view to future human uses of OBPs.  相似文献

The effect of hydrothermal treatment of two-phase olive waste (alperujo) on the solubilization of hydroxytyrosol was studied. Different conditions of saturated steam were assayed. A high amount of hydroxytyrosol was solubilized and increased with increasing steaming temperature and time, reaching 1.4-1.7 g/100 g of dry alperujo. The effect of acidic (H(2)SO(4)) and basic (NaOH) catalysts was also evaluated. Acid-catalyzed treatment was more effective at milder conditions, whereas the alkali-catalyzed conditions were not very suitable. In the present study, the extracted hydroxytyrosol was purified by means of a new, simple, and inexpensive chromatographic system, under international patent application (PCT/ES02/00058). From 1000 kg of alperujo, with 70% humidity, can be obtained approximately 4.5-5 kg of hydroxytyrosol. After a purification process, at least 3 kg of hydroxytyrosol, at 90-95% purity, would be obtained. The purified compound was identified by HPLC/UV and (1)H and (13)C NMR analyses, and its antioxidant activity was tested on refined olive oil without antioxidants by Rancimat method. The oxidative stability of refined olive oil was increased by a factor of 1.71 in the presence of 100 ppm of hydroxytyrosol.  相似文献

Amendments are frequently added to agricultural soils to increase organic matter content. In this study, we examined the influence of alperujo, an olive oil mill waste, on the availability of two triazine herbicides, terbuthylazine and atrazine, in two different sandy soils, one from Sevilla, Spain, and the other from Minnesota. The effect of aging on herbicide sorption and bioavailability was also studied. Soils were amended with alperujo at a rate of 3-5% (w:w) in laboratory studies. Apparent sorption coefficients for the triazine herbicides were calculated as the ratio of the concentrations of each herbicide sequentially extracted with water, followed by aqueous methanol, at each sampling time. These data showed greater sorption of terbuthylazine and atrazine in amended soils as compared to nonamended soils, and an increase in the amount of herbicide sorbed with increasing aging time in nonamended soils. The triazine-mineralizing bacterium Pseudomonas sp. strain ADP was used to characterize triazine bioavailability. Less mineralization of the herbicides by Pseudomonas sp. strain ADP was observed in soils amended with alperujo, as compared to the unamended soils, and, despite the increase in sorption with aging in unamended soils, herbicide mineralization also increased in this case. This has been attributed to Pseudomonas sp. strain ADP first using alperujo as a more readily available source of N as compared to the parent triazines. In summary, addition of alperujo to the soils studied was shown to increase triazine herbicides sorption and hence to reduce its availability and potential to leach.  相似文献

Amending soil with products rich in organic matter, such as raw olive cake or alperujo and its compost and vermicompost, could be a simple bioremediation strategy for soil pollutants such as pesticides. To investigate this hypothesis in relation to sulfonylurea herbicides, these amendments were applied to a Mediterranean agricultural soil at rates 4 times higher than agronomical dosage to stimulate biodegradation of chlorsulfuron, prosulfuron, and bensulfuron, added in a mixture to the soils. Degradation studies were conducted in microbially active and sterile soils to check the importance of biological and chemical degradation of sulfonylurea herbicides in nonamended and amended soil. The addition of alperujo stimulated soil microbial activity, as determined by dehydrogenase activity measurements, but it did not enhance the degradation of the sulfonylurea herbicides. In contrast, compost and vermicompost slightly favored the biological degradation of bensulfuron during the first week of incubation. Chlorsulfuron and prosulfuron were mainly degraded by chemical pathways in all substrates, which is probably due to a competitive or inhibitory phenomenon observed between chlorsulfuron and bensulfuron. The first-order kinetic equation satisfactorily explained the experimental data for chlorsulfuron and prosulfuron; however, a biphasic model, such as that proposed by Hoerl, better predicted the results obtained for bensulfuron.  相似文献

Vermicomposts from the wine and distillery industry containing spent grape marc (V1), biosolid vinasse (V2) and alperujo (V3) from the olive‐oil industry were investigated as organic amendments to a sandy and a clay soil with low organic carbon (OC) contents (≤1%). The sorption‐desorption process was studied in batch experiments using diuron as a non‐ionic herbicide model. The effect of soil and vermicompost characteristics, the solution's ionic strength and incubation time of amended soils on the sorption process was studied. The addition of vermicompost changed soil properties and enhanced sorption capacity by two‐ to four‐fold. The Koc variability showed that exogenous OC composition influenced diuron sorption. Vermicompost V1, which had the largest OC and lignin content, recorded the largest sorption increment. Vermicompost V3, which had the greatest dissolved organic carbon content and a high degree of humification, made the smallest contribution to sorption. Sorption was also dependent on extraneous calcium in the solution. The incubation of amended soils reduced diuron sorption efficiency except with V3. Pyrolysis‐gas chromatography (Py‐GC) analysis was a useful tool to characterize the vermicomposts and to understand the variation of diuron sorption constants after vermicompost incubation. This research encourages the use of vermicompost from agro‐industrial wastes as a sustainable means to minimize the side effects of neutral herbicides.  相似文献

The application of a novel process based on the hydrothermal treatment of olive oil waste (alperujo) led to a final liquid phase that contained a high concentration of simple phenolic compounds. This study evaluated the effects of time (15-90 min) on the composition of the phenolic compounds isolated at a fixed temperature of 160 °C. Phenolic compounds were extracted with ethyl acetate. Both qualitative and quantitative HPLC analyses of the extracts showed variation of the concentrations of phenolic compounds with time. In addition, new phenols that were not present in the untreated control have been characterized. The antioxidant activities of different phenolic extracts was measured by various assays conducted in vitro: antiradical capacity (using DPPH and ABTS radicals), ferric reducing power (P(R)), inhibition of primary and secondary oxidation in lipid systems, and other tests, such as inhibition of tyrosinase activity. The results show that the phenolic extracts inhibited oxidation in aqueous and lipid systems to a significantly greater extent than the untreated control, and they performed as well as or better than vitamin E in this capacity.  相似文献

Olive pulp (OP), the residual material of a two-phase olive oil extraction system, and effluents from hydrogen (EH2) and methane (ECH4) production, have been evaluated as soil amendments particularly for their impact on soil mineral nitrogen (N) dynamics, gross N mineralization, and soil microbial biomass N (Nmic). Both N transformation and microbial growth were mainly influenced by the amount and quality of added organic carbon (C). Both OP and EH2, which contain more carbohydrates and lipids than polyphenolic compounds, stimulated NO3 immobilization during the early incubation period and increased Nmic, saprophytic fungi, and N mineralization. On the contrary, soil amended with ECH4, which is characterized by the lowest C content but the highest content of polyphenolic compounds, behaved as the control; neither NO3 immobilization nor microbial growth were observed and gross N mineralization was stimulated only at the beginning of the incubation period. Bacterial plate count was significantly correlated with direct bacterial count and fungal count was correlated with Nmic. Therefore, it is suggested that both bacterial and fungal plate counts may be used as indicators of the overall bacterial and fungal populations inhabiting soil, respectively. The knowledge of the impact of these materials on soil N dynamics is crucial for their correct use in agriculture because it has been shown that NO3 availability can be strongly influenced by the addition of different amounts and quality of organic amendment.  相似文献

The various ecosystem functions of soil organic matter (SOM) depend on both its quantity and stability. Numerous fractionation techniques have been developed to characterize SOM stability, and thermal analysis techniques have shown promising results to describe the complete continuum of SOM in whole soil samples. However, the potential link between SOM thermal stability and biological or chemical stability has not yet been adequately explored. The objective of this study was to compare conventional chemical and biological methods used to characterize SOM stability with results obtained by thermal analysis techniques. Surface soil samples were collected from four North American grassland sites along a continental mean annual temperature gradient, each with a native and cultivated land use. Soil organic C concentrations ranged from 6.8 to 33 g C kg−1 soil. Soils were incubated for 588 days at 35 °C, and C mineralization rates were determined periodically throughout the incubation by measuring CO2 concentration using an infrared gas analyzer (IRGA) to calculate biological indices of SOM stability. Hot-water extractable organic C (HWEOC) contents were determined before and after incubation as chemical indices. Finally, samples from before and after incubation were analyzed by simultaneous thermal analysis (i.e., thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)) to determine thermal indices of SOM stability. Long-term incubation resulted in the mineralization of up to 33% of initial soil C. The number of days required to respire 5% of initial soil organic carbon (SOC), ranged from 27 to 115 days, and is proposed as a standardized biological index of SOM stability. The number of days was greater for cultivated soils compared to soils under native vegetation, and generally decreased with increasing site mean annual temperature. HWEOC (as % of initial SOC) did not show consistent responses to land use, but was significantly lower after long-term incubation. Energy density (J mg−1 OM) was greater for soils under native vegetation compared to cultivated soils, and long-term incubation also decreased energy density. The temperatures at which half of the mass loss or energy release occurred typically showed larger responses to land use change than to incubation. Strong correlations demonstrated a link between the thermal and biogeochemical stability of SOM, but the interpretation of the thermal behavior of SOM in bulk soil samples remains equivocal because of the role the mineral component and organo-mineral interactions.  相似文献

A comparison between the results obtained by using HPLC-UV, HPLC-MS, and CE-UV for characterizing the deterioration of extra-virgin olive oil during heating (180 degrees C) was investigated, taking into account phenolic compounds. The concentration of several compounds belonging to four families of phenols (simple phenols, lignans, complex phenols, and phenolic acids) was determined in the samples after the thermal treatment by all three techniques. Hydroxytyrosol, elenolic acid, decarboxymethyl oleuropein aglycon, and oleuropein aglycon reduced their concentration with the thermal treatment more quickly than other phenolic compounds present in olive oil. HYTY-Ac and Lig Agl were demonstrated to be quite resistant to this kind of treatment, and the behavior of lignans could be outstanding, as they belong to the family most resistant to thermal treatment. Several "unknown" compounds were determined in the phenolic profiles of the oils after the thermal treatment, and their presence was confirmed in refined olive oils. The oxidative stability index (OSI time) was reduced from 25 to 5 h after 3 h of heating, whereas the peroxide value showed a minimum after 1 h of heating.  相似文献

In S Spain, the Andalusian olive oil industry generates annually 2.5–3.0 million tons of olive mill pomace, a by‐product which is comprised of the residues from the two‐phase oil‐extraction process. The agricultural policies of the EU have led to widespread interest in recycling these agricultural by‐products. Olive mill pomace might be evaluated as an organic fertilizer after composting, however, before wider use of composted olive mill pomace is advocated, characterization of the final product is needed. In this study, the physico‐chemical characteristics, net N mineralization, and the potential for N leaching of 7 out of the 11 olive‐mill‐pomace composts currently produced in the Andalusian olive mills were investigated. Compost of olive mill pomace differed in the proportions of raw materials co‐composted with the olive mill pomace, such as olive leaf material, manure, and straw. In all the composts tested, organic matter, total C and K were high with 60.5%, 30.7%, and 1.7% on average, respectively, whereas total P was low (0.4%) and with intermediate levels of N (1.5%). Compost pH (8.03), electrical conductivity (2.85 dS m–1), and germination index (65% on average) were adequate for agricultural use. Furthermore, principal component analyses revealed a clear relationship between the quality of the composts and the proportion of manure mixed with the raw materials. Net N mineralization was negative on average (–20 μg IN g–1) after 1 y, but positive after 2 y of incubation with up to 94% of available N from the total N added and the short‐term potential N leaching after compost application was negligible (less than 3.9% of added N) and much lower than the other N fertilizer with up to 80% added N leached. Overall, results of this study clearly show that these currently produced composts of olive mill pomace are suitable as soil improvers for agricultural purposes, but may not contribute significantly as a N fertilizer for up to 2 y after application.  相似文献

The effect of hot-water treatments of olive fruits before processing on the biosynthesis of virgin olive oil aroma was investigated by quantifying the variation within the major classes of volatile compounds. Data showed that hot-water treatments gave rise to changes in the volatile aroma profile of virgin olive oil from the three olive cultivars under study, Manzanilla, Picual, and Verdial. Different effects by thermal treatments were observed according to cultivar. In general, these changes are mainly due to a decrease in the contents of C(6) aldehydes and C(5) compounds. Contents of C(6) alcohols and esters remained constant or decreased slightly when the temperature of the treatment was increased. Thus, heat treatments seemed to promote a partial deactivation of the lipoxygenase/hydroperoxide lyase enzyme system, whereas other enzymatic activities, within the lipoxygenase pathway, such as alcohol dehydrogenase and alcohol acyltransferase, remained apparently unaffected as a consequence of heat treatments.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to understand the degradation of the organic matter of olive mill wastewater (OMW) and its phytotoxic and water repellent effects in dependence on four different climatic conditions. We hypothesized that warm conditions with sufficient soil moisture ensure optimal biological activity and thus minimize negative effects of the OMW treatment. Therefore, OMW-treated soil was incubated for 60 days under four climatic conditions. During incubation, we monitored pH, contents of nitrate, manganese and phenolic compounds, soil respiration, soil water repellency, and δ13C. Additionally, calorific value and thermal stability of the soil organic matter at the beginning and end of incubation were determined. Soil samples of the wet-cold and moist-warm incubation were tested for phytotoxicity using a seed germination bioassay with Lepidium sativum. As a function of climatic conditions, positive and negative effects, e.g., addition of nutrients, phytotoxicity, and soil water repellency, were observed. Under dry-hot conditions, the soil was still water repellent after 60 days of incubation whereas the wet-hot, moist-warm, and wet-cold incubation show that soil would stay wettable if soil moisture before OMW treatment would be sufficient. Thus, the impact of OMW treatment on soil quality strongly depends on the environmental conditions which should favor an enhancement of microbial activity to minimize negative effects.  相似文献

The amounts of olive husks produced in Mediterranean countries are very significant. Their treatment and disposal are becoming serious environmental problems. Increasing attention has been paid to finding a use for olive husks. A technological treatment is available to reduce their pollutant effects and to transform them into valuable products. The most suitable procedures are recycling instead of the detoxification of these wastes. It is possible to transform olive husks into organic fertilizers (composts) by composting with poultry manure. The compost has no phytotoxicity and may improve soil fertility and plant production. The composting process involves the microbial degradation of the polluting load of the solid wastes. Results of experiments using olive husk composts in crop production have shown that yields obtained with organic fertilization are similar, and sometimes higher, than those obtained with classic manure. Their bioavailability may be linked to the soil humic complexes originated by these organic fertilizers and to mineral components (active lime and clay). The composition of vegetable leaves improved similitude between compost and manure, normal concentrations but with deficiency in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.  相似文献

Management of olive groves faces the challenge of reconciling yield, soil degradation and virgin olive oil (VOO) quality. We evaluated the effect of replacing tillage management by vegetal groundcovers (GC) on the relationships between mycorrhizal symbiosis, olive nutritional status, and VOO quality under field rainfed conditions. The experiment was set up in 2014 in an existing Cornicabra olive orchard with a Haplic Gypsisol soil under a Mediterranean semiarid climate. Four treatments were replicated four times and consisted of: (1) annual cover of bitter vetch, (2) permanent Brachypodium distachyon, (3) spontaneous vegetation cover (mainly Brassicaceae species), and (4) tilled soil. The use of bitter vetch GC increased the olive root colonization by 50% compared with the tillage treatment. The effect of tillage on VOO differed from that of GC use. Tillage treatment decreased maturity index and its VOO had lower polyphenol content and less luminosity than that from the GC treatments. Olive root colonization, together with changes in nutrients such as Cu, B and other elements resulting from GC use, seems to play an important role in explaining the variability of VOO quality parameters. Although tillage may lead to higher yield by controlling competition for water and nutrients, the introduction of GC in olive groves led to higher polyphenol contents, enhancing VOO quality and, at the same time, protecting soil from erosion.  相似文献

Abstract. A laboratory study was conducted to investigate the effects of adding an intermediary byproduct of olive oil extraction ( alperujo or solid olive-mill waste, SOMW) on the sorption, degradation and leaching of the herbicide simazine in a sandy loam soil. The effect of SOMW addition on soil porosity was also assessed. The soil was amended in the laboratory with SOMW at two different rates (5% and 10% w/w). Simazine sorption isotherms showed a great increase in herbicide sorption after SOMW addition to soil; sorption increased with the amount of SOMW added. Incubation studies showed extended persistence by reduced biodegradation of simazine in the soil amended with SOMW compared with the unamended soil. Although the addition of SOMW to soil increased the total porosity, breakthrough curves of simazine in handpacked soil columns showed that SOMW addition retarded the vertical movement of the herbicide through the soil and reduced the total amount of herbicide leached. It appeared that the longer residence time of simazine in the amended soil columns (>20 days) compared with that in the unamended soil column (<20 days) allowed enhanced degradation and/or irreversible sorption under column leaching conditions. The results revealed important changes in herbicide behaviour upon SOMW addition, confirming the need to assess these changes in order to optimize the combined use of organic wastes and soil-applied pesticides.  相似文献

Patulin, a toxic fungal metabolite, negatively affects rumen fermentation. This mycotoxin has also been associated with intoxication cases in cattle. This study investigates the use of SH-containing reducing compounds to prevent patulin's negative effects on the rumen microbial ecosystem. The effect of 50 microg/mL patulin on the fermentation of alfalfa hay was measured in batch cultures with and without reducing agents. Sulfhydryl-containing cysteine and glutathione prevented the negative effects of the toxin on dry matter degradation, gas, and volatile fatty acid production (P < 0.01). However, non-sulfhydryl-containing ascorbic and ferulic acids did not protect against patulin's toxicity (P > 0.01). Patulin was unstable in buffered rumen fluid as the concentration decreased by half after 4 h of incubation. In the presence of sulfhydryl groups, the toxin disappeared rapidly and was not detected after 1 h of incubation. The utilization of sulfhydryl-containing compounds such as cysteine to avert patulin toxicity could have practical implications in ruminant nutrition.  相似文献
