Irrigated crops of ‘Grasslands Kaituna’ lucerne were grown for 5 years in a temperate climate at Lincoln University, Canterbury, New Zealand (43°38′S, 172°28′E). From these the response of the components of leaf area index (LAI) to environmental factors was determined. A broken stick temperature threshold with a base temperature (Tb) of 1 °C at air temperatures (Ta) <15 °C and a Tb = 5 °C for Ta  15 was required to accumulate thermal time (Tt). Using this, the appearance of nodes on the main-stem (phyllochron) was constant in Tt within a re-growth cycle (30–42 days). The phyllochron was 37 ± 7 °Cd but declined from 60 to 37 °Cd as photoperiod decreased from 15.7 to 11.4 h. Branching began at the appearance of the fifth main-stem node with 2.5 secondary nodes produced per main-stem node in spring re-growth cycles but only 1.7 produced in summer. Leaf senescence increased from 0.3 to 1.08 leaves per main-stem node after the appearance of the ninth node. Spring re-growth cycles had a mean individual leaf area of 170 mm2 compared with 400 mm2 for summer re-growth cycles. These results demonstrate systematic variation in LAI components and suggest they need to be considered separately in response to environmental factors to provide a quantitative framework for crop simulation analyses of lucerne canopy development.  相似文献

Bulb brassicas are used as supplementary feed in intensive pastures systems. However, there is a lack of quantitative data to define their growth and development. This has limited the creation and use of prediction models and decision support systems. Thus a field experiment measured growth and development of ‘Barkant’ and ‘Green Globe’ turnips sown on five dates from November 2008 to March 2009. In a second field experiment ‘Green Globe’ turnips were sown on four dates from December 2009 to March 2010, under two ground cover treatments that changed mean soil temperature by ∼2 °C. Bulb initiation was defined botanically as when the hypocotyl was 10 mm thick, at 360 °Cd (±13.0) for ‘Barkant’ and 420 °Cd (±13.7) (Tb = 3.6 °C) for ‘Green Globe’. However, the bulb participation in dry matter production occurs after an 18 mm hypocotyl thickness, which occurred at ∼500 °Cd for both turnip cultivars. A single base parameter of 0.995 described the exponential decline of the leaf:bulb ratio. Relationships also described how leaf production and total leaf area expansion changed up until bulb initiation. Radiation use efficiency (RUE) ranged from 1.13 to 1.33 g DM/MJ total. A constant rate of total leaf area expansion (0.015 m2/m2/°Cd) was obtained up to LAIc for ‘Green Globe’ turnips. A third pot experiment confirmed the thermal time requirement to bulb initiation based on direct assessment of the hypocotyl thickening of ‘Barkant’ and ‘Green Globe’ turnips. Temperature was shown as the main driver of bulb development and growth. The relationships provided could be used to improve the performance of prediction models.  相似文献

The effects of radiation and temperature during the seed set period (SSP) on pod number per square metre (PN m−2) and seed number per square metre (SN m−2) and those of temperature during grain filling on unit seed weight (USW, milligram per seed) of field pea (Pisum sativum L.) were examined in experiments involving irrigated crops of three or more cultivars of contrasting maturity sown on two or more dates per year from 1996 to 1998 at Buenos Aires, Argentina. The duration of the seed-setting phase was estimated from records of the progress of flowering on the main stem and an estimate (obtained using an optimisation procedure) of the thermal time from flowering at which the uppermost reproductive node reached the final stage of seed abortion (FSSA). The FSSA at a particular node was assumed to be achieved 200 °C day (Tb=4 °C) after flowering at the same node. The grain-filling phase was assumed to run from the achievement of FSSA at the first reproductive node through to 200 °C day (Tb=0 °C) after the date of achievement of the FSSA by the second flowering node.The treatments (cultivar, sowing date, year) produced important ranges of above-ground biomass (AGB) at maturity (271–782 g m−2), seed yield (SY, 119–331 g m−2), SN (1062–3698 seeds m−2) and USW (67–150 mg seed−1). Seed yield was strongly correlated with SN, and there was full compensation between SN and USW in large-seeded cultivars in the high SN range, but not at lower values of SN or in small-seeded cultivars. Both PN (r=0.83) and SN (r=0.87, P<0.0005) were strongly correlated with the mean daily value of the photothermal quotient (PQ=incident radiation/(mean temperature − base temperature)) for the seed-setting phase. Large- and small-seeded cultivars had PN/PQ and SN/PQ relationships with slopes which did not differ among categories but with significantly different intercepts. When the effects of low temperatures during flowering and early grain growth were allowed for, outliers on the PN/PQ and SN/PQ relationships for unstressed crops fell within the confidence limits of the respective linear regressions. Unit seed weight showed a negative response to mean temperature during the grain-filling phase in large- and small-seeded cultivars. We conclude that the relationships established in these experiments, taken together with previous work by other authors, constitute a robust basis for modelling the yield of unstressed field pea crops.  相似文献

Flower opening in Iris (Iris x hollandica) depends on elongation of the pedicel + ovary. This elongation lifts the bud above the point where the sheath leaves no longer mechanically inhibit lateral tepal movement. We here report on the effects on flower opening of storage at various temperatures, of holding the flowers dry rather than in water, and of a 12 h light/dark cycle instead of darkness, in cv. Blue Magic. During 3 d of storage in darkness at 11 °C or 6 °C the flowers placed in water opened. Flowers stored at 3.0 °C did not open during the storage period but did so during subsequent vase life at 20 °C. Flowers stored in water at 0.5 °C remained closed, even during subsequent vase life at 20 °C. None of the flowers that were stored dry for 3 d at 15 °C, 11 °C, 6 °C, 3 °C or 0.5 °C opened during vase life. Compared to flowers placed in continuous darkness, a rhythm of 12 h light and 12 h darkness inhibited opening during a 3 d storage period at 20 °C. It is concluded that cut Iris flowers (a) can be stored in water at 3 °C for more than a week, but cannot be stored for 3 d or more in water at 15 °C, 11 °C, 6 °C or 0.5 °C, and (b) cannot be stored dry for long (under the present conditions 3 d or longer) at any of these temperatures. The storage of fruit is characterized by many physiological and biochemical changes, and this study aimed to study respiration rate, ethylene production, and other biochemical variations of ackee fruit arils (Blighia sapida), cheese variety, stored at 5, 10 and 20 °C during eight days. During storage, respiration rate decreased but ethylene production increased. Glucose, fructose, sucrose, and short chain fructooligosaccharides – 1-kestose, nystose and DP-5 – and total phenolic compounds also decreased, however, the decrease was much higher at 20 °C. The L*, a*, b, C* and H* values showed that lower temperatures preserved much better colour and visual quality, and arils stored at 5 °C were rated excellent compared to those stored at 10 and 20 °C. The quality of arils stored at 10 °C also was more than satisfactory, while arils stored at 20 °C were completely spoiled after 8 days and showed high weight losses compared to arils stored at 5 and 10 °C, which did not show any spoilage and very low weight losses. In conclusion, the results demonstrated that ackee fruit arils can be stored in very good conditions for a minimum of eight days under low temperature regimes, although at 5 °C arils showed the best shelf-life.  相似文献

The aim of this research was to study the effects of two hurdle technologies, citric acid application (CA) at 0.3%, 0.6% and 0.9% and thermal treatments (IT) for 1, 2 and 3 min at 50 °C, on the color of radish slices over 10 d of refrigerated storage. Contribution of the hurdles and their interactions were evaluated by examining the treatment effects on the following parameters: chromatic coordinates (L*, a* and b*) and the indices: chroma (ΔC*), total color difference (ΔE) and Color Index (CI*).The chromatic parameters for fresh radish (control samples) were L0 = 69.43 ± 0.62, a0 = −0.46 ± 0.05 and b0 = 5.37 ± 0.37, while the calculated color indices were chroma = 5.39 ± 0.36, ΔE = 0 and CI* = −1.19 ± 0.17. Regarding control samples, the b* values showed an increasing trend during storage, which was associated with browning of the slices. Both ΔE and ΔC* values presented similar trends as reported for b*. Based on statistical analysis of the parameters and indices tested, the single hurdle application of low citric acid concentration (0.3%) or intermediate immersion time (2 min) at 50 °C minimized the radish slices color changes during storage. However, better results were obtained when two hurdles in series were applied. According to analysis, the treatment T7 (1 min IT, 0.3% CA) was selected as the best treatment to improve the retention of typical natural color of the minimally processed sliced radishes.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to estimate the plastochron in pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) during the period between emergence and flowering using three methods of calculating the average daily air temperature and to determine the sample size (number of plants) needed to estimate the plastochron. A uniformity test (blank experiment) was conducted in an area of 1440 m2 containing a pigeonpea crop. The area was divided into 360 plots of 2 m × 2 m, and 1 plant per plot was marked at random. In each of these 360 plants, the number of nodes on the main stem was counted at 37, 43, 50, 57, 64, 71, 78, 85, 93, 99, 106, 114 and 120 days after emergence (DAE). The average daily air temperature (Taverage) was calculated using three methods: method 1: Taverage = (Tminimum + Tmaximum)/2; method 2: Taverage = (T0 h + T1 h + T2 h +  + T23 h)/24; and method 3: Taverage = (Tminimum + Tmaximum + T9 h + 2T21 h)/5. For the three methods, the daily and cumulative thermal times were calculated from the date of emergence to early flowering and fitted to a linear regression of the average number of nodes on the main stem as a function of the accumulated thermal time. The plastochron was then calculated under each method as the inverse of the slope of the linear regression, and the required sample size (number of plants) to estimate the plastochron was determined by resampling with replacement. Plastochron values determined from the average daily air temperature calculated based on the three methods are different, and the use of the arithmetic mean of the hourly temperatures (method 2) should be favoured. Under method 2, the plastochron for pigeonpea was determined to be 21.34 °C day node−1. To estimate the plastochron with 95% confidence interval amplitudes equal to 1, 2 and 3 °C day node−1, it was necessary to count the number of nodes in 194, 50 and 24 pigeonpea plants, respectively.  相似文献

Internal browning (IB) can be a serious problem with the use of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) for ‘Bartlett’ pears (Pyrus communis L.) grown in the Pacific Northwest during storage and transit to distant markets. To investigate this disorder, ‘Bartlett’ pears harvested at commercial maturity were packed in a commercial MAP (MAPc), an experimental MAP (MAPe) and commercial perforated plastic bags (control) and stored in air at −1.1 °C. After 1 and 3 months of storage, samples of MAPc and control fruit were transferred to rooms at temperatures of 2, 4.5, 7.5, and 10 °C for 3 weeks to simulate transit temperatures and the time required to reach distant markets. MAPc maintained an average internal atmosphere of 12.3% O2 + 5.6% CO2 and significantly extended ‘Bartlett’ pear storage life with high eating quality and without IB and other disorders for up to 4 months at −1.1 °C. The internal gas atmosphere of MAPe equilibrated at 2.2% O2 + 5.7% CO2, which resulted in fruit with 25.5 and 62.3% IB after 3 and 4 months of storage, respectively. During simulated transit conditions of 2, 4.5, 7.5, and 10 °C, the CO2 level in MAPc was maintained at 5.6–7.9%, while O2 was reduced dramatically to 10.5, 5.0, 2.5, and 1.0%, respectively. IB developed at 7.5 and 10 °C but not at 2 and 4.5 °C, regardless of pre-transit storage duration (1 and 3 months) at −1.1 °C. The longer the storage duration and the higher transit temperature, the higher the incidence and severity of IB. The MAP-related IB disorder observed in this study included two types of symptoms: classic pithy brown core and wet brown flesh. The MAPc storage gas atmospheres maintained fruit firmness, color and higher eating quality after ripening, eliminated senescent scald and core breakdown, suppressed the loss of ascorbic acid (AsA) and titratable acidity, and slowed the accumulation of malondialdehyde (MDA) during storage at −1.1 °C for up to 4 months or 3 months + 3 weeks at simulated transit temperatures of 2 and 4.5 °C. In contrast, fruit held in MAP with low O2 levels (1.0–2.5%) developed IB that appeared to be associated with a reduction in AsA, accumulated MDA and exhibited an increase in membrane leakage. MAP inhibited ripening at high CO2 + high O2 but lead to IB when the packaging material or elevated temperatures resulted in high CO2 + low O2 conditions. The incidence of IB closely correlated with lipid peroxidation and appeared to be related to fruit AsA concentration. The MAPc designed for pears appears to be suitable for ‘Bartlett’ fruit stored at −1.1 °C for up to 4 months or storage for 3 months and a transportation duration of up to 3 weeks at 0–4.5 °C during the early season and at 0–2 °C during the late packing season. These conditions yielded fruit of high eating quality and without IB or over-ripening upon arrival at distant markets.  相似文献

The effects of high CO2 concentration (10% CO2, 17% O2) on the changes of functional cell wall components (pectic substances, hemicellulose, cellulose, lignin), mechanical properties, content of free soluble sugars (sucrose, glucose, fructose), and respiration activity were studied in harvested white asparagus spears stored at 10 and 20 °C, respectively, for up to 7 d. Spears stored at 2, 10 and 20 °C in air were studied as controls, where the 2 °C condition indicated the effects of cold storage. During storage, respiration activity declined only slightly, irrespective of the CO2 and temperature regime. Spears stored at 20 °C under both CA and normal air became less stiff and more elastic, however, tissue toughness increased significantly. Changes in toughness were associated primarily with the dynamics of lignin and cellulose, revealing a strong correlation (r2 = 0.81). High CO2 concentration inhibited the synthesis of cellulose and, to some extent, lignin accumulation at 20 °C. Additionally, elevated CO2 inhibited the degradation of soluble carbohydrates. In contrast, slightly lower temperatures of 10 °C in combination with high CO2 did not have a pronounced effect on changes in structural carbohydrates (lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose and pectins). The effect low temperature (2 °C) under normal atmosphere conditions resulted in the inhibition of cell wall changes in asparagus spears.  相似文献

Phosphine (PH3) fumigation with different concentrations and exposure durations at low temperature was studied to determine its effects on Liriomyza huidobrensis Blanchard (Diptera: Agromyzidae) on carnations, and on postharvest quality. Laboratory tests showed that tolerance of L. huidobrensis to phosphine fumigation at 5 °C varied with different life stages. 1 d-old eggs and adults showed the highest susceptibility, and 3 d-old eggs was the most tolerant stage. In the fumigation tests of 3 d-old eggs with a range of phosphine concentrations from 0.46 to 2.73 mg L−1 and exposure durations from 6 to 144 h at 5 °C, 85.96–282.08 h fumigation durations were required to achieve 99% mortality with different phosphine concentrations. The expression of C0.77T = k was obtained, which indicated that exposure duration other than phosphine concentration was the critical factor in the toxicity of phosphine against the 3 d-old eggs of L. huidobrensis. Controlled atmosphere (CA) treatment with increased CO2 and reduced O2 had synergistic effects on phosphine toxicity. Phosphine fumigation could achieve 100% mortality for insects of L. huidobrensis on carnation, and had no significant adverse effects on vase life and damage indices of carnation at 1.92 mg L−1 PH3 and 8% CO2 for 32 h, and at 3.44 mg L−1 for 3 d at 5 °C. All results suggested that phosphine fumigation at low temperature could be used as an alternative for postharvest control of L. huidobrensis on carnations.  相似文献

The effect of MAP on extending storage life and maintaining fruit quality was studied in ‘Doyenne du Comice’ (Pyrus communis L.) pears at Hood River and Medford, Oregon. Control fruit packed in standard perforated polyethylene liners started to show senescent core breakdown and lost the capacity to ripen at 20 °C after 4–5 months of cold storage in Hood River and after 5.25–6 months in Medford. LifeSpan® L257 MAP achieved steady-state atmospheres of 15.8% O2 + 3.7% CO2 in Hood River and 15.7–17.5% O2 + 3.8–5.7% CO2 in Medford. MAP inhibited ethylene production, ascorbic acid degradation and malondialdehyde accumulation, and extended storage life for up to 6 months with maintenance of fruit flesh firmness (FF) and skin color without commercially unacceptable level of physiological disorders. After 4, 5 and 6 months at −1 °C, MAP fruit exhibited climacteric-like patterns of ethylene production and softened to proper texture with desirable eating quality on day 5 during ripening at 20 °C. After 6 months at −1 °C plus 2 weeks of simulated transit conditions, MAP fruit maintained FF and skin color and had good eating quality at transit temperatures of 2 and 4.5 °C (10.1–11.5% O2 + 4.8–5.2% CO2), but reduced FF substantially and developed internal browning disorder at 7.5 and 20 °C (3.2–7.2% O2 + 7.9–9.5% CO2). The storage life of ‘Doyenne du Comice’ pears with high eating quality could be increased by up to 2 months when packed in MAP as compared with fruit packed in standard perforated polyethylene liners.  相似文献

Postharvest diseases limit the storage period and market life of fresh figs (Ficus carica L.). The objective of this work was to determine the effect of sulfur dioxide (SO2) applied by fumigation and/or by dual release SO2 generating pads on postharvest decay and quality retention of ‘Black Mission’ and ‘Brown Turkey’ (dark skin), and ‘Kadota’ and ‘Sierra’ (green skin) figs. A protocol for the computer-controlled application of gaseous SO2 has been developed which allows the application of very low specific concentration × time products of SO2 and simultaneous monitoring of the application progress. In vitro tests with important fungal, yeast and bacterial postharvest pathogens plated on Petri dishes and exposed to a SO2 concentration × time product (C × t) of 100 (μL/L) h at different temperatures showed fewer survived at 20 °C than at 0 °C. Therefore, fumigations were carried out at 20 °C in the rest of the experiments. The evaluation of different SO2 concentration × time products showed that a product of 25 (μL/L) h provided the best compromise between decay control and fruit injury. The performance of SO2 fumigations on warm or cold fruit, its combination with SO2 generating pads, and the use of repeated fumigations during cold storage were also evaluated. All the SO2 treatments tested reduced the percentage of decay, extending the market life of fresh figs. However, in some cases, the use of SO2 generating pads increased the incidence of skin bleaching. Fumigation of warm fruit at 25 (μL/L) h of SO2 reduced populations of Alternaria and Rhizopus spp. growing on the fig surface. The treatment was more effective against Rhizopus spp. than against Alternaria spp. Contamination of fruit by Botrytis spp. and Penicillium spp. was also reduced by SO2. In conclusion, results showed that SO2 can be a potential tool to control postharvest rots and therefore increase the market life of fresh figs.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of brief hot water and thiabendazole (TBZ) postharvest dip treatments on ultrastructural changes of fruit epicuticular wax (ECW), TBZ residues, decay development and quality traits of ‘Tarocco’ oranges [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbek] subjected to cold quarantine, subsequent simulated transport and shelf-life. Commercially mature fruit were submerged in water at 20 °C (control fruit) or TBZ at 1000 mg/L and 20 °C for 60 s, or in hot water without or with TBZ at 300 mg/L and 53, 56, or 59 °C for 60, 30, and 15 s respectively. Following treatments, fruit were stored for 3 weeks at 1 °C (simulated quarantine conditions for fruit disinfestations against Mediterranean fruit fly, Medfly), followed by 4 days at 3 °C (simulated long distance transport), and finally kept at 20 °C for 3 days (shelf-life, SL). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of ‘Tarocco’ orange surface showed that the typical wax platelets, lifting around edges of wax plates and areas free of epicuticular wax (ECW), that disappeared after hot water dips at 53–59 °C for 60–15 s, become visible again after storage for 21 days at 1 °C (quarantine conditions), and changes involving the appearance of rough ultrastructure, presence large curled plates, fissured wax crusts, and areas with ECW deficiencies, became much more pronounced after shelf-life. These occurrences were related to the transient effect of hot water treatment in decay control. Conversely, treatments with 300 mg/L TBZ 53 °C for 60 s or 56 °C for 30 s effectively reduced decay after quarantine. These treatments were as effective as standard treatment with 1000 mg/L TBZ at 20 °C and produced similar TBZ residue levels in fruit, without impairing fruit quality traits such as visual appearance, weight loss, compression test, sensory attributes, juice color parameters (a*, b*, h, L*, and Chroma), and juice chemical characteristics (soluble solids content, titratable acidity, ascorbic acid, glucose, sucrose, citric acid, total phenols, total anthocyanins, and total antioxidant activity).  相似文献

The potential of 1-MCP for controlling ripening in ‘Angeleno’ plum fruit under air and controlled atmosphere (CA) storage was explored, and the possibility that 1-MCP can inhibit development of brown rot caused by Monilinia laxa and internal breakdown in ‘Fortune’ and ‘Angeleno’ plums tested. After harvest, fruit were exposed to 300 and 500 nl l−1 (in 2003) and 500 nl l−1 1-MCP (in 2004) at low temperatures (0–3 °C) for 24 h. After treatment the plums were stored in air at 0 °C and ‘Angeleno’ fruit were also stored in CA storage (1.8% O2 + 2.5% CO2). Following storage, fruit were kept at 20 °C. In ‘Angeleno’ fruit, 1-MCP was effective in delaying the loss of firmness and colour changes during holding at 20 °C. 1-MCP reduced brown rot in fruit stored in CA but no significant reduction was found in air storage. Internal breakdown, a major physiological storage disorder in plums, was inhibited by 1-MCP treatment. Furthermore, since 1-MCP applied in air storage showed better results than the control in CA conditions, an application of 1-MCP before air storage could be the best way to reduce the ripening process for short or medium storage periods (40 and 60 days). Fungal decay is a major cause of postharvest losses in strawberries. The traditional approach for controlling fungal decay is the use of fungicides. However, the use of fungicides has been questioned as a sustainable and safe method, and is also prohibited in many countries. One potential physical method for reducing fungal decay is application of a short-term hypobaric treatment prior to storage. In this study efficacy of postharvest hypobaric treatments to control natural rot development in strawberries was evaluated. Strawberries were treated with hypobaric pressures (25 kPaa, 50 kPaa and 75 kPaa) for 4 h at 20 °C and subsequently stored at 20 °C or 5 °C. A 50 kPaa treatment consistently delayed rot development in samples stored at either temperature confirming that the technique has potential as a non-chemical treatment. Moreover 50 kPaa treatments did not affect weight loss and firmness at either 20 °C or 5 °C. An initial increase in respiration rate was observed in 50 kPaa treated samples potentially indicating mild stress due to hypobaric treatment. An in vitro fungal study found that 50 kPaa treatment for 4 h did not affect the rate of radial growth of colonies of Botrytis cinerea and Rhizopus stolonifer, providing further evidence that the potential mechanism of hypobaric treatment is induction of the defence system within the fruit rather than a direct effect on fungal viability. Further molecular and biochemical research is required to evaluate the possible stimulation of resistance in fruit through short-term hypobaric treatments.  相似文献

A continuing challenge for commercializing 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) to extend the storage life and control superficial scald of ‘d’Anjou’ pear (Pyrus communis L.) is how to initiate ripening in 1-MCP treated fruit. ‘D’Anjou’ pears harvested at commercial and late maturity were treated with 1-MCP at 0.15 μL L−1 and stored either at the commercial storage temperature −1.1 °C (1-MCP@−1.1 °C), or at 1.1 °C (1-MCP@1.1 °C) or 2.2 °C (1-MCP@2.2 °C) for 8 months. Control fruit stored at −1.1 °C ripened and developed significant scald within 7 d at 20 °C following 3–5 months of storage. While 1-MCP@−1.1 °C fruit did not develop ripening capacity due to extremely low internal ethylene concentration (IEC) and ethylene production rate for 8 months, 1-MCP@1.1 °C fruit produced significant amounts of IEC during storage and developed ripening capacity with relatively low levels of scald within 7 d at 20 °C following 6–8 months of storage. 1-MCP@2.2 °C fruit lost quality quickly during storage. Compared to the control, the expression of ethylene synthesis (PcACS1, PcACO1) and signal (PcETR1, PcETR2) genes was stable at extremely low levels in 1-MCP@−1.1 °C fruit. In contrast, they increased expression after 4 or 5 months of storage in 1-MCP@1.1 °C fruit. Other genes (PcCTR1, PcACS2, PcACS4 and PcACS5) remained at very low expression regardless of fruit capacity to ripen. Freshly cut slices of apple (Malus x domestica Borkh cv. Granny Smith) were fumigated with nitric oxide (NO) gas at concentrations between 1 and 500 μl l−1 in air at 20 °C for up to 6 h followed by storage at 0, 5, 10 and 20 °C in air. Exposure to nitric oxide delayed the onset of browning on the apple surface with the most effective treatment being fumigation with 10 μl l−1 NO for 1 h. While nitric oxide inhibited browning in slices held at all temperatures, it was relatively more effective as the storage temperature was reduced with the extension in postharvest life over the respective untreated slices increasing from about 40% at 20 °C to about 70% at 0 °C. In a smaller study on ‘Royal Gala’, ‘Golden Delicious’, ‘Sundowner’, ‘Fuji’ and ‘Red Delicious’ slices stored at 10 °C, 10 μl l−1 NO for 1 h was found to be effective in inhibiting surface browning in all cultivars.  相似文献

Weather plays a critical role in eco-environmental and agricultural systems. Limited availability of meteorological records often constrains the applications of simulation models and related decision support tools. The Vegetation/Ecosystem Modeling and Analysis Project (VEMAP) provides daily weather variables on a 0.5 latitude–longitude grid across the conterminous USA. Daily weather data from the VEMAP (1961–1990) for the state of Georgia were compared with data from 52 individual ground stations of the National Weather Service Cooperative Observer Program (COOP). Additionally, simulated crop grain yields of soybean (Glycine max) were compared using the two data sources. Averaged daily maximum and minimum temperatures (Tmax and Tmin, respectively), solar radiation (SRAD), and precipitation (PPT) differed by 0.2 °C, ?0.2 °C, 1.7 MJ m?2 d?1, and 0 mm, respectively. Mean absolute errors (MAEs) for Tmax, Tmin, SRAD, and PPT were 4.2 °C, 4.4 °C, 4.4 MJ m?2 d?1, and 6.1 mm, respectively, and root mean squared errors (RMSEs) for Tmax, Tmin, SRAD, and PPT were 5.5 °C, 5.9 °C, 5.8 MJ m?2 d?1, and 13.6 mm, respectively. Temperature differences were lowest during summer months. Simulations of grain yield using the two data sources were strongly correlated (r = 0.68, p < 0.01). The MAE of grain yield was 552 kg ha?1. The RMSE of grain yield was 714 kg ha?1. Hybrid analyses indicated that the variation of simulated yield was mainly associated with the differences in rainfall. The results showed that the VEMAP daily weather data were able to be adequately applied to crop growth simulation at spatial and temporal scales, especially for long-term climate change research. Overall, the VEMAP weather data appears to be a promising source for crop growth modeling concerned with scale to 0.5° coordinate grid.  相似文献

Time-resolved reflectance spectroscopy (TRS), allows for the complete optical characterization (in terms of the absorption and scattering coefficients) of diffusive media such as fruit, in the spectral range 600–1100 nm, probing a volume to a depth of about 2 cm. The hypothesis was made that the absorption coefficient at 670 nm (μa), near the chlorophyll peak, could be an index of fruit maturity at harvest. The aim of this research was to model nectarine softening for fruit of different maturity at harvest, as assessed by μa. Nectarine fruit of two sizes (A and B) were picked in 2002, 2003 (cv ‘Spring Bright’) and 2004 (cv ‘Ambra’), measured by TRS at harvest on two opposite sides and ranked by decreasing μa averaged per fruit (increasing maturity). Fruit were stored at 0 °C for 3, 10 and 6 days, then at 20 °C for 79, 120 and 117 h in 2002, 2003 and 2004, respectively. Firmness was measured by pressure test (8 mm tip) during shelf life, on two sides of each fruit, and then averaged. Softening at 20 °C followed a logistic model as a function of μa at harvest and of time at 20 °C (adjusted R2 = 0.85 in ‘Spring Bright’ and 0.75 in ‘Ambra’). The effects of fruit size and cold storage were negligible. The absorption coefficient μa explained 13–34% of the variation of firmness. Fruit with different μa at harvest softened with the same sigmoidal pattern in time, which was shifted earlier in low μa fruit, and later in high μa fruit. μa accounted for the time shift in softening of individual fruit within the same batch. The value of μa can be regarded as an index of the biological age of fruit. By using this model, it is possible to predict individual fruit softening rates at 20 °C.  相似文献

Inadequate temperatures during the shipping and commercialization of cut tropical flowers may accelerate the senescence process and cause chilling injury, leading to symptoms that have not yet been described for Heliconia bihai. The aim of the present study was to evaluate physiological responses in cut inflorescences of H. bihai cv. Lobster Claw (LC) and cv. Halloween (HW) as well as symptoms of senescence and chilling injury. For such, changes in fresh weight, bract color (L*, a* and b*), percentage of absolute integrity (PAI) of cell membranes and leakage of potassium ions (LPI) were determined. The flowering stems were evaluated at five different intervals after harvest (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 d). A refrigerated treatment (RT) with a temperature of 6.5 °C and 85% relative humidity was compared to a control treatment (CT) at room temperature of 24 °C and 66% relative humidity. Both cultivars stored at 6.5 °C exhibited dryness of bract tissue (symptom of senescence) and dark stains that became brownish and evolved to necrosis (symptom of chilling injury). The visual quality of inflorescences decreased with time in both cultivars maintained without refrigeration. The severity of chilling injury increased with the length of storage time in both cultivars. There was a significant reduction in the fresh weight of inflorescences in both treatments (RT and CT) and both cultivars (LC and HW). Bract color changed in both cultivars at 6.5 °C. There was no change in PAI throughout the evaluation period in the inflorescences stored at room temperature, whereas those stored at 6.5 °C for 6 and 8 d had lower PAI values. The inflorescences in the control treatment underwent no change in LPI values, whereas those stored under refrigeration had increased LPI values after the sixth day of storage. The physiological responses of cut Heliconia flowers were influenced by storage period and temperature, as demonstrated by visual symptoms of chilling injury and senescence.  相似文献
