This study investigates the effect of digestible protein levels in experimental diets for meagre (Argyrosomus regius). A group of 253 fish, 52 g of mean weight, was distributed in 12 tanks, three replicates per treatment. Four isolipidic diets (170 g kg?1 crude lipid) with different digestible protein levels (350 g kg?1, 430 g kg?1, 490 g kg?1 and 530 g kg?1) were formulated using commercial ingredients. The trial lasted 62 days. Meagre fed diets 430, 490 and 530 g kg?1 obtained higher TGC (2.47, 2.57, 2.69 × 10?3, respectively) than fish fed diet 350 g kg?1 (2.14 × 10?3). Group of fish fed diet with 350 g kg?1 DP showed the lowest ammonia excretion level. According to the in vitro digestibility trial diets with 350 and 430 g kg?1 DP released less amino acids in comparison with diet with 49% DP, although in vivo digestibility test did not show significant differences among diets 430, 490 and 530 g kg?1 DP. Using the quadratic regression, optimal digestible protein intake according to the ECR for rearing juvenile meagre was recorded in 0.8 g DP/100 g fish and day.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of fructooligosaccharide (FOS) and Bacillus licheniformis (B. licheniformis) on growth performance, body composition, intestinal enzymes activities and gut histology of Megalobrama terminalis. Nine experimental diets were formulated to contain three FOS levels (0, 3 and 6 g kg?1) and three B. licheniformis levels (0, 1 and 5 × 107 CFU g?1) following a 3 × 3 factorial design. Accordingly, diets were named as 0/0, 0/3, 0/6, 1/0, 1/3, 1/6, 5/0, 5/3 and 5/6 (B. licheniformis/FOS). At the end of the 8‐week feeding trial, weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) of fish fed 6 g kg?1 FOS were both significantly (< 0.01 and < 0.05) higher than that of the other groups in terms of dietary FOS levels. Besides, WG and SGR of fish fed 1 × 107 CFU g?1 B. licheniformis were significantly (< 0.05) higher than that of the control group in terms of dietary B. licheniformis levels. In addition, a significant interaction (< 0.05) between dietary FOS and B. licheniformis was observed in finial weight, WG, SGR as well as the survival rate with the highest values all observed in fish fed diet 1/3. Hepatosomatic index, carcass lipid content, lipase activities as well as microvilli length increased significantly (< 0.05) from 0 to 1 × 107 CFU g?1, but no significant difference (> 0.05) was observed in terms of dietary FOS levels. In addition, a significant (< 0.05) interaction of FOS and B. licheniformis was observed in both protease and Na+, K+‐ATPase activities with the highest value obtained in fish fed diet 1/3. The results indicated that the dietary applications of dietary FOS and B. licheniformis alone or in combination can significantly improve the growth performance, survival rate, intestinal enzymes activities as well as microvilli length of triangular bream. In addition, there is a significant interaction between dietary FOS and B. licheniformis. The best combination for this species is 3 g kg?1 FOS with 1 × 107 CFU g?1 B. licheniformis.  相似文献

A 60‐day indoor trial was conducted to study the effect of periphyton supplementation on metabolic and immune responses in tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon. Periphyton developed over bamboo substrate in outdoor tanks (15 m2) was used as dietary supplement for P. monodon (2.02 ± 0.04 g) reared in 1000 L FRP tanks. Graded levels of periphyton were included in shrimp basal diets: 0% (P0), 3% (P3), 6% (P6), 9% (P9) and P0 diet with natural periphyton (NP) over bamboo substrate. At the end of the trial, P6 and NP showed significantly higher (P < 0.01) growth rate, 23.9% and 20%, respectively, compared with control, P0. Comparatively, lower level of metabolic enzymes, such as lactate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase, was recorded in treatments P3, P6 and NP compared with control, P0. The periphyton‐supplemented group, P3 had significantly higher (P < 0.05) superoxide dismutase (15.83 ± 0.96) and catalase activity (15.73 ± 0.69) compared to 6.88 ± 2.84 and 9.15 ± 0.67 unit mg?1 protein min?1, respectively, in P0. Similarly, higher total haemocyte counts, 32.58 ± 1.30, 28.51 ± 3.12 and 27.26 ± 4.43 × 106 cells mL?1, were recorded in P6, NP and P3, respectively, compared to P0, 23.57 ± 1.80 × 106 cells mL?1. After challenge with Vibrio harveyi, P3 recorded the highest relative percentage survival 67% followed by NP (58%) and P6 (42%) compared with control. However, treatment with highest periphyton inclusion (P9) did not differ significantly with P0 on growth and immunological parameters. This study indicates that periphyton supplementation at 3–6% level improves growth, immune response and metabolic activities in P. monodon.  相似文献

Feed requirements were estimated from specific growth rates in standardized soft tissue dry weight (SGRDW) and atomic O:N ratios for mussels fed seven rations of microalgae (5–735 μg C h?1 ind?1) at 7 and 14°C respectively. The mean oxygen consumption and ammonia‐N excretion rates were significantly higher at 14°C (0.29 μg O2 and 27.3 μg N ind?1 h1) compared with those at 7°C (0.16 μg O2 and 11.4 μg N ind?1 h?1) (P < 0.05), resulting in O:N ratios between 3 and 45 at 7°C and 7 and 28 at 14°C. Low O:N ratios indicate protein catabolism and an unfavourable condition, whereas high ratios indicate that carbohydrate is the primary energy source. The measured SGRDW suggests minimum feed requirements of ~240 and ~570 μg C ind?1 h?1 for weight maintenance at 7 and 14°C, with corresponding O:N ratios of 24 and 16, respectively, indicating a more stressed condition at 14°C. A 0.5% SGRDW day?1 was obtained by ~565 (O:N = 29) and ~680 (O:N = 23) μg C ind?1 h?1 at 7 and 14°C respectively. A positive and significantly higher SGRDW, with the lowest feed ration at 7°C compared with a negative SGRDW at 14°C (P < 0.05), indicated that storage time can also possibly be prolonged at low temperatures if the mussels are not fed.  相似文献

The combined effects of stocking density and microalgae ration on survival and size of Saccostrea echinata larvae were studied in two‐factor experiments for the major developmental stages: D‐veliger (1‐day posthatch [dph], Experiment 1), umbonate (12 dph, Experiment 2), and eyed (19 dph, Experiment 3) larvae. Larvae were stocked into replicate sets of four 10‐L aquaria with ambient 1‐μm filtered sea water (28 ± 1.5°C and 36 ppt) and cultured for four days at densities of 0.5, 2, 5, 7, or 10 larvae/mL and provided with microalgae rations at each of five densities (cells larvae?1 day?1); 0, 1, 3, 5, or 8 × 103 (D‐veliger larvae, Experiment 1); 0, 5, 12, 18, or 25 × 103 (umbonate larvae, Experiment 2); and 0, 15, 30, 40, or 60 × 103 (eyed larvae, Experiment 3). Microalgae rations for each larval life stage were selected on the basis of increasing food requirement with larval size and comprised a 2:1:1 mixture of Chaetoceros calcitrans, Tisochrysis lutea, and Pavlova spp., calculated on an equal dry‐weight basis. Contour plots were generated from larval survival and larval size (dorso‐ventral measurement [DVM]) data to determine optimal culture conditions. Larvae showed high survival (54–100%) over a wide range of both treatment parameters across all life stages, confirming broad tolerance limits for this species. The interaction effects of larval stocking density and microalgae ration on larval size were significant (p < 0.001) across all life stages. Results indicate that maximum larval size (DVM) is achieved when S. echinata are cultured at: 6–8 larvae/mL and fed 5–6 × 103 cells larvae?1 day?1 for D‐veligers (mean DVM >80 μm), at 2–8 larvae/mL and fed 11–25 × 103 cells larvae?1 day?1 for umbonate larvae (mean DVM > 190 μm), and at 1–4 larvae/mL and fed 15–40 × 103 cells larvae?1 day?1 for eyed larvae (mean DVM >230 μm). Results will help refine current hatchery methods for S. echinata supporting further development toward commercial aquaculture production of this species.  相似文献

Probiotic administration is associated with the enhancement of host resistance to environmental and nutritional stressors, improving survival and growth rates. This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus toyoi on growth performance, innate immune responses and gut morphology of two trout species feeding a commercial diet high in soybean meal. A commercial probiotic (4.2 × 109 CFU g?1 of additive) was supplemented to the experimental diets at 0% (control), 0.03% (P1; 6 × 103 CFU g?1 of diet) or 0.06% (P2; 1.5 × 106 CFU g?1 of diet) and fed to brown trout (Salmo trutta) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) for 9 and 20 weeks respectively. Rainbow trout showed significantly better growth performance than brown trout, regardless of the dietary treatment. No effect of dietary probiotic supplementation was detected on growth performance, body composition or innate immune parameters (plasma lysozyme, alternative complement and peroxidase activities). In both species, after 9 weeks, intestinal lamina propria and submucosa were widened, with increased presence of inflammatory cells, significantly higher in groups fed probiotics. This inflammatory process, with villi and enterocytes noticeably damaged compared with the control group, was more pronounced in brown trout. Under the current trial conditions, the B. subtilis + B. cereus toyoi had no positive impact in either trout species, on the contrary a harmful effect was observed.  相似文献

Argyrosomus regius (3.0 ± 0.9 g) were exposed to different concentrations of ammonia in a series of acute toxicity tests by the static renewal method at three temperature levels (18, 22 and 26°C) at a pH of 8.2. Low temperature clearly increased the tolerance of the fish to total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) and unionized ammonia (NH3) (P < 0.05). While the 96‐h LC50 values of TAN were 19.79, 10.39 and 5.06 mg L?1, the 96‐h LC50 of NH3 were 1.00, 0.70 and 0.44 mg L?1 at 18, 22 and 26°C respectively. The safe levels of NH3 for A. regius was estimated to be 0.10, 0.07 and 0.04 mg L?1 at 18, 22 and 26°C respectively (P < 0.05). This study clearly indicates that A. regius is more sensitive to ammonia than other marine fish species cultured on the Mediterranean and Eastern Atlantic coasts.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of concentration of the microalga Dunaliella tertiolecta on the growth and survival of fairy shrimp, Phallocryptus spinosa. Newly hatched nauplii were stocked into containers, maintained at different concentrations of D. tertiolecta (at 18, 36, 54, 72 and 90 × 106 cells mL?1). All treatments were in quadruplicate and each replicate was stocked with 100 larvae in a 2‐L cylindrical bowl. We studied the survival and growth of the fairy shrimp after 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 days of culture. The results indicated significant differences, in terms of growth and survival, of fairy shrimps fed at different algal densities. The highest and lowest growth and survival among the treatments were observed on Day 15, the highest in animals fed at a concentration of 90 × 106 cells mL?1 and the lowest in animals fed at a concentration of 18 × 106 cells mL?1. We conclude that the growth and survival of the P. spinosa increased with increasing density of algae, to a threshold level. Within certain concentration limits, the addition of D. tertiolecta substantially improved the performance of larval culture of P. spinosa, suggesting that this fairy shrimp has potential in terms of aquaculture development.  相似文献

Three in vivo experiments were conducted to measure the effectiveness of commercial Bacillus probiotics on survival and development of Litopenaeus vannamei larvae from nauplii 3–4 (N3–4) to zoea 3 (Z3) stages. Experiment I: Nine commercial Bacillus probiotics were individually added to larvae twice at N6 and Z1 at levels of 2, 20, and 100 mg L?1. Only six of nine products at 20 mg L?1 exhibited higher or significantly higher larval survival (< 0.05) than the control. Experiment II: Two superior products from the first experiment were administered to larvae with six dose frequencies at 20 mg L?1. For both products, three doses, once at each of N3–4, N6 and Z1 stages, yielded the best larval survival and development rates (< 0.05), and these were confirmed by enhanced activities of tryptase and amylase. Experiment III: The isolates of these two products, identified as Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis, were delivered to larvae singly at concentrations of 1.0 × 108 and 1.0 × 109 CFU L?1, or at the same concentrations by mixing the two equally. At 1.0 × 109 CFU L?1, B. subtilis exerted more beneficial effects on larvae than B. licheniformis or the mixture. Therefore, the optimal dosage and dose frequency of commercial Bacillus products should be evaluated prior to large‐scale application in shrimp hatcheries to avoid futility or even adverse effects, as spore counts and non‐bacterial ingredients are key factors influencing the efficacy of Bacillus probiotics.  相似文献

A 12 weeks of feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different levels of dietary yellow loess as an antibiotic (oxytetracycline) replacer in rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. Five experimental diets were formulated to contain no antibiotics or yellow loess (control/CON), three graded levels of yellow loess 5 (YL5), 10 (YL10) and 20 g YL kg?1 diet (YL20) and oxytetracycline at 5 g OTC kg?1 diet. Forty‐five fish averaging 39.4 ± 1.6 g (mean ± SD) were randomly distributed in to 15 aquaria. Triplicate groups of fish were fed one of the experimental diets at 1.5 ~ 1.9% of wet body weight per day. At the end of the feeding trial, average weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) from fish fed CON diet were significantly lower than those from fish fed YL10, YL20 or OTC diets (< 0.05). Lysozyme activity from fish fed YL20 was detected to be significantly higher than that from fish fed CON diet (< 0.05). While, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity from fish fed YL10 and YL20 was recorded to be significantly higher than that from fish fed CON diet (< 0.05). Fourteen days of challenge test with bacteria A. salmonicida showed significantly lower survival rate for CON than those of fish fed other experimental diets. Therefore, these results indicated that dietary yellow loess at 10–20 g kg?1 could be a promising alternative of oxytetracycline in rainbow trout.  相似文献

A 12‐week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the optimum dietary inorganic copper (copper sulphate) in juvenile beluga, Huso huso. Eight semi‐purified diets containing 1.1 (Cu1.0), 3.5 (Cu4.0), 7.1 (Cu7.0), 9.7 (Cu10), 13.1 (Cu13), 25.1 (Cu25), 49.9 (Cu50) and 195 (Cu195) mg Cu kg?1 diet in the form of CuSO4.5H2O were fed to fish of initial body weight 8.49 ± 0.32 g and length 11.85 ± 0.66 cm (mean ± SD) in triplicate groups in a flow‐through system. Weight gain (WG) of fish fed Cu10 and Cu13 diets was significantly higher than that of fish fed Cu1.0, Cu4.0, Cu25, Cu50 and Cu195 diets (P < 0.05). Whole‐body and muscle crude protein increased with dietary Cu up to the supplementation level of 13.1 mg kg?1 diet and then decreased. Whole‐body lipid content was negatively correlated, while whole‐body ash was positively correlated with dietary copper concentration. Hepatic copper–zinc superoxide dismutase activity of fish fed Cu10 and Cu13 diets was significantly higher than that of fish fed Cu1.0, Cu4.0 and Cu195 diets. Hepatic thiobarbituric acid‐reactive substances of fish fed Cu13 diet was significantly lower than those of fish fed the other diets except for that of fish fed Cu10 diet. Aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and copper accumulation in tissues increased with dietary copper. Broken‐line analysis of WG suggested that the optimum dietary Cu level was 10.3 mg Cu kg?1 diet. Therefore, these results may indicate that the optimum dietary Cu levels could be greater than 10.3 mg Cu kg?1 diet but less than 13.1 mg Cu kg?1 diet in juvenile beluga, when copper sulphate is used as the dietary source of inorganic copper.  相似文献

The supply of microalgae to hatcheries is a limiting factor for the mass larval production of sea cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus) in Fujian Province, China. In this study, Nannochloropsis sp. isolated from the East China Sea was tested as food for A. japonicus larvae. The first trial compared the effect of mono‐, bi‐ and trialgal diets comprising three microalgae (Chaetoceros muelleri, Dunaliella tertiolecta and Nannochloropsis sp.) on A. japonicus larval growth, survival, settlement and juvenile growth. The results showed that there were no significant differences in survival and settlement between larvae fed with Nannochloropsis sp. and other diets. All diet treatments yielded similar juvenile sea cucumber output. In the second trial, A. japonicus larvae were fed equally four times daily at three different rations (5000, 20 000 and 40 000 cells mL?1 day?1). Larvae fed 20 000 cells mL?1 day?1 were significantly larger than larvae in other groups and experienced the highest survival rate. In the third trial, A. japonicus larvae were fed 20 000 cells mL?1 day?1 in three different frequency (2, 3 and 4 meals day?1). The greatest body length was observed in larvae that received 3 meals day?1. Survival and settlement of larvae fed 2 meals day?1 were significantly lower than other two groups. These results suggest that Nannochloropsis sp. can be used as a diet for the large‐scale production of A. japonicus seed, and larvae fed three times daily at a ration of 20 000 cell mL?1 day?1 are recommended for hatchery production of A. japonicus.  相似文献

A feeding trial was carried out to determine effects of dietary supplements of inactivated Pediococcus pentosaceus (PP) on growth, feed utilization and blood characteristics of red sea bream. Five diets containing different concentrations [0 (PP0), 1.6 × 1010 (PPI), 1.6 × 1011 (PPII), 1.6 × 1012 (PPIII) and 3.2 × 1012 (PPIV) cells g?1] of PP were fed to fish for 56 days. At the end of the feeding trial, the obtained results revealed a significant increase (P < 0.05) in weight gain, specific growth rate and skin mucus secretion in all PP‐supplemented groups when compared with control group. Moreover, fish fed PPIII and PPIV diets resulted in significantly higher final body weight, feed efficiency ratio and bactericidal activity than those of fish fed PP0 diet (< 0.05). Further, fish fed the PPIII diet also had a higher feed intake, protein efficiency retention, haematocrit, mucus lysozyme activity (LA), plasma and serum proteins than those of PP0 fed group (< 0.05). Similarly, fish fed PPIV diet resulted in a significant increase in serum LA, peroxidase activity and tolerance against low‐salinity stress test (< 0.05). Considering these promising results, we suggest that the supplementation of PP Prep improves growth and health conditions of Pagrus major.  相似文献

An 8‐week study was conducted to determine folic acid requirement and its effect on antioxidant capacity and immunity in juvenile Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis (Milne‐Edwards, 1853), followed by a challenge assay with the pathogen Aeromonas hydrophila for 2 weeks. Folic acid was added to a basal diet at seven levels (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0, 16.0 mg folic acid kg?1 diet), and a diet free of folic acid and vitamin B12 was also included as a control. Crabs were fed twice daily in 32 tanks with 7.76–8.17 mg oxygen L?1, 25.0–31.0 °C and 7.5–8.3 pH. Growth and feed efficiency were significantly greater in crabs fed ≥2.0 mg folic acid kg?1, but not significantly different between crabs fed diets >2.0 mg folic acid. The superoxide dismutase activity and glutathione S‐transferase activity were highest in crabs fed ≥2.0 mg folic acid kg?1, followed by those fed 0.5 and 1.0 mg folic acid kg?1, and the control diet. The malondialdehyde content was highest in crabs fed the control diet, followed by those fed 0 mg folic acid kg?1, and the lowest value occurred in those fed ≥0.5 mg folic acid kg?1. Phenoloxidase activity and total haemocytes were significantly higher in crabs fed ≥2.0 mg folic acid kg?1 than other diets. Crabs fed 2.0 mg folic acid kg?1 had the highest lysozyme, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase activities but the lowest cumulative mortality. The optimum dietary folic acid requirement by E. sinensis was estimated at 2.29–2.90 mg kg?1 diet.  相似文献

Abundance, length‐frequencies and distribution of Ruditapes philippinarum (Manila Clams) and Tellina (Quidnipagus) palatum were measured at two beaches in Kāne'ohe Bay, O'ahu, Hawai'i in June, 2010. Abundances had decreased from 866.2 m?2 to 3.4 m?2 for Ruditapes and from 75.5 m?2 to 1.5 m?2 for T. palatum since 1977. Distribution of both species was patchy, but both were most commonly found >40 m from shore. Size frequencies of live clams compared with empty shells suggest that few Ruditapes survive to sexual maturity. A similar trend was not detected for T. palatum. Aquaculture trials of R. philippinarum were conducted at the He'eia and Moli'i traditional Hawaiian fishponds in the same bay. The clams failed to thrive, although triploid and diploid Crassostrea gigas performed well in concurrent trials in the same fishponds. Current lower abundances for wild R. philippinarum could be due to factors related to predation or nutrient limitations. Previously, two large sewage outfalls existed at the surveyed clam bed areas which may have temporarily increased nutrient availability for both wild and cultured clams. Current nutrient levels may inhibit Manila clam growth and recruitment in Kāne'ohe Bay.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of light limitation on the water quality, bacterial counts and performance of Litopenaeus vannamei postlarvae reared with biofloc at low salinity (≈9 g L?1). Two treatments were designed: T1 = culture with natural sunlight and T2 = culture in darkness. After 28 days, in both treatments, the final weight of shrimp was over 0.6 g with a specific growth rate over 7.4% d?1, and a survival rate over 70%. In both treatments, Vibrio sp. concentration presented low values (culture with natural sunlight = 0.1 to 9.9 × 102 CFU mL?1, culture in darkness = 0.4 to 11.7 × 102 CFU mL?1) and Bacillus sp. had high values (culture with natural sunlight = 0.7 to 66.0 × 104 CFU mL?1, culture in darkness = 0.7 to 65.8 × 104 CFU mL?1). All water quality parameters remained within the ranges suitable for shrimp culture, except for alkalinity during the first stage of the study. Although in some sampling periods some significant differences were found in bacterial counts and water quality parameters, shrimp productive performance under culture with biofloc at low salinity was not affected significantly by light limitation.  相似文献

Laboratory‐produced juvenile individuals of the species Mytilus chilensis, M. galloprovincialis and their hybrids were subjected to physiological measurements under an experimental diet of Isochrysis galbana (30 × 106 cells L?1), 13°C temperature and a salinity of 30 psu. Pure species individuals showed a higher clearance rate (CR). Mytilus chilensis had a CR of 1.13 L h?1, while M. galloprovincialis registered only 0.78 L h?1. Also, pure taxa registered higher values (above 70%) of absorption efficiency when compared with hybrid individuals. Ammonia excretion in M. chilensis and M. galloprovincialis was 1.5% and 0.4%, respectively, while hybrids registered significantly lower values. Under these experimental conditions, M. chilensis registered the highest scope for growth (< 0.05), compared with M. galloprovincialis and their hybrids. However, the net growth efficiency index (K 2) in hybridization type I (♀Mg × ♂Mc) was higher (< 0.05) than other experimental groups. The invasive mytilid M. galloprovincialis showed values that are very similar to those obtained with the hybridization I group (♀Mg × ♂Mc). Finally, we discuss that water temperature is an important factor in the biogeographic separation of both species and the potential effects that the settlement of the invasive species may have for Chilean mussel production.  相似文献

In experiment 1, juvenile sea urchins (n = 80, 0.088 ± 0.001 g wet weight and 5.72 ± 0.04 mm diameter) were held individually and fed ad libitum one of three semi‐purified formulated diets (n = 16 individuals treatment?1). In the diets, protein was held constant (310 g kg?1 dry, as fed) and carbohydrate level varied (190, 260, or 380 g kg?1 dry, as fed). Wet weights were measured every 2 weeks. Total wet weight gain was inversely proportional to dietary carbohydrate level and energy content of the respective diet. In experiment 2, sea urchins (5.60 ± 0.48 g wet weight, n = 40) fed 190 g kg?1 carbohydrate consumed significantly more dry feed than those fed 260 g kg?1, but not more than those fed 380 g kg?1 carbohydrate. Based on differential feed intake rates, sea urchins that consumed more feed also consumed higher levels of protein and had the highest weight gain. Consequently, protein content and/or protein: energy ratio may be important in determining feed utilization and growth among sea urchins in this study. Streptococcus agalactiae is an emerging pathogen of fish and has caused significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. The main objective of this study is to assess whether pathogenic differences exist among isolates from different geographic locations. Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus L.) were administered an intraperitoneal injection of suspension containing USA, Brazil, Honduras, Israel, or Kuwait S. agalactiae isolates at concentrations ranging from 102 to 107 cfu mL?1. The LD50 values 7 days after challenge were as follows: USA (1.0 × 102 cfu mL?1), Brazil (1.5 × 103 cfu mL?1), Honduras (6.8 × 103 cfu mL?1), Israel (1.0 × 104 cfu mL?1) and Kuwait (7.2 × 105 cfu mL?1). Fish from all groups exhibited lethargy, anorexia, exophthalmia, corneal opacity, erratic swimming, petechiae and mortality. Opercular clearing and ascites were only found after infection with certain geographic isolates. The findings in this study indicate that S. agalactiae isolates of different geographic origin can cause significant mortalities after experimental challenge and can have different pathogenic capacities. Isolates from the Americas (USA, Brazil and Honduras) were more pathogenic to Nile tilapia than isolates from the Middle East/Asia (Israel and Kuwait).  相似文献
