Concentrations of CH4, a potent greenhouse gas, have been increasing in the atmosphere at the rate of 1% per year. The objective of these laboratory studies was to measure the effect of different forms of inorganic N and various N-transformation inhibitors on CH4 oxidation in soil. NH 4 + oxidation was also measured in the presence of the inhibitors to determine whether they had differential activity with respect to CH4 and NH 4 + oxidation. The addition of NH4Cl at 25 g N g-1 soil strongly inhibited (78–89%) CH4 oxidation in the surface layer (0–15 cm) of a fine sandy loam and a sandy clay loam (native shortgrass prairie soils). The nitrification inhibitor nitrapyrin (5 g g-1 soil) inhibited CH4 oxidation as effectively as did NH4Cl in the fine sandy loam (82–89%), but less effectively in the sandy clay loam (52–66%). Acetylene (5 mol mol-1 in soil headspace) had a strong (76–100%) inhibitory effect on CH4 consumption in both soils. The phosphoroamide (urease inhibitor) N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) showed strong inhibition of CH4 consumption at 25 g g-1 soil in the fine sandy loam (83%) in the sandy clay loam (60%), but NH 4 + oxidation inhibition was weak in both soils (13–17%). The discovery that the urease inhibitor NBPT inhibits CH4 oxidation was unexpected, and the mechanism involved is unknown.  相似文献

In the central highlands of Mexico, mesquite (Prosopis laevigata) and huisache (Acacia schaffneri), N2-fixing trees or shrubs, dominate the vegetation and are currently used in a reforestation program to prevent erosion. We investigated how natural vegetation or cultivation of soil affected oxidation of CH4, and production of N2O. Soil was sampled under the canopy of mesquite (MES treatment) and huisache trees (HUI treatment), outside their canopy (OUT treatment) and from fields cultivated with maize (ARA treatment) at three different sites while production of CO2, and dynamics of CH4, N2O and inorganic N (NH4+, and NO3) were monitored in an aerobic incubation. The production of CO2 was 2.3 times higher and significantly greater in the OUT treatment, 3.0 times higher in the MES treatment and 4.0 times higher in the HUI treatment compared to the ARA treatment. There was no significant difference in oxidation of CH4 between the treatments, which ranged from 0.019 g CH4–C kg–1 day–1 for the HUI treatment to 0.033 CH4–C kg–1 day–1 for the MES treatment. The production of N2O was 30 g N2O–N kg–1 day–1 in the MES treatment and >8 times higher compared to the other treatments. The average concentration of NO3 was 2 times higher and significantly greater in the MES treatment than in the HUI treatment, 3 times greater than in the OUT treatment and 10 times greater than in the ARA treatment. It was found that cultivation of soil decreased soil organic matter content, C and N mineralization, but not oxidation of CH4 or production of N2O.  相似文献

Summary The influence of the partial pressure of oxygen on denitrification and aerobic respiration was investigated at defined P02 values in a mull rendzina soil. The highest denitrification and respiration rates obtained in remoistened, glucose- and nitrate-amended soil were 43 1 N20 h–1g–1 soil and 130 1 O2 h–1g–1 soil, respectively. At -55 kPa matric water potential, corresponding to 40% water saturation, N20 was produced only below P02 40 hPa. The K m, for O2 was 3.0 x 106 M. Formation of N2O and consumption of O2 occurred simultaneously with half maximum rates at P02 6.7–13.3 hPa. Nitrite accumulated in soil below 40 hPa and increased with decreasing pO2. The upper threshold for N20 formation in amended soil was P02 33–40 hPa (39-47 M O2).  相似文献

Summary This study compared the dynamics of shoots, roots, microbial biomass and faunal populations in two different soils cropped to barley. The dynamics of microbial C, protozoa, nematodes, acari, collembola, shoot and root mass were measured between July and October under barley at Ellerslie (Black Chernozem, Typic Cryoboroll) and Breton (Gray Luvisol, Typic Cryoboralf) in central Alberta. Very wet soil conditions in early July reduced the barley yield at Breton. The peak shoot mass was greater at Ellerslie (878 g m–2) compared to Breton (582 g m–2), but the root mass did not differ significantly between sites. Microbial C at 0–30 cm depth was greater at Ellerslie (127 g m–2) than Breton (68 g m–2). The average protozoa population (no. m–2) did not differ significantly between sites. The average nematode population at 0–20 cm depth was greater at Ellerslie (5.1 × 106 no. m–2) compared to Breton (1.0 × 106 no. m–2) Acari and collembola populations at 0–10 cm depth at Ellerslie (43 × 103 and 43 × 102 no. m–2), respectively) were greater than at Breton (2 × 104 and 9 × 102 no. m–2) respectively). Tenday laboratory incubations of 0–10 cm soil samples from Ellerslie evolved more CO2-C (120 g g–1 soil) compared to samples from Breton (97 g g–1 soil), but the CO2-C evolution did not differ when expressed on an area basis (g m–2) due to the greater soil bulk density at Breton. The soil from Breton respired twice as much CO2-C when expressed as a proportion of soil C and 1.5 times as much CO2-C when expressed as a proportion of microbial C, compared to the soil from Ellerslie. The greater CO2-C: microbial C ratio, lower flush C:N ratio, and greater protozoa population: soil C ratio at Breton compared to Ellerslie suggest that the food web was relatively more active at Breton and was related to greater C availability and water availability at Breton.  相似文献

Field studies using open-top chambers were conducted at USDA-BARC involving the growth of soybeans ('89 & '90), wheat ('91 & '92), and corn ('91), under increased concentrations of atmospheric CO2 and O3. Treatment responses were compared in all cases to plants grown in charcoal-filtered (CF) air (seasonal 7-h mean = 25±3 n mol O3 mol–1) having 350 or 500 mol CO2 mol–1. Elevated seasonal O3 levels for the soybean, wheat, and corn studies averaged 72.2±4, 62.7±2, and 70.2 n mol O3 mol–1, respectively. Results presented were obtained for plants grown in silt loam soil under well-watered conditions. Grain yield increases in response to elevated CO2 in the absence of O3 stress averaged 9.0, 12.0, and 1.0% for soybean, wheat, and corn; respectively. Reductions in grain yields in response to the elevated O3 treatments at 350 mol CO, mol–1 averaged 20.0, 29.0 and 13.0% for soybean, wheat, and corn, respectively. Reductions in grain yields in response to elevated O3 at 500 mol CO2 mol–1 averaged 20.0, 8.0, and 7.0% for soybean, wheat, and corn, respectively. Dry biomass and harvest index in wheat were significantly reduced by O3 stress at 350 mol mol 1 CO2 but not at 500 u mol mol–1 CO2. Seed weight 1000–1 for scybeans and wheat was significantly increased by CO2 enrichment and decreased by O3 stress. Seed weight 1000–1 in corn was increased by O3 stress suggesting that O3 affected pollination resulting in fewer kernels per ear.Scientific Article No. A7784, Contribution No. 9105, Maryland Agric. Relationships between CH4, CO2, and N2O emissions were studied in soil that had been freshly amended with large deposits of cattle wastes. Dynamics of CH4, CO2, and N2O emissions were investigated with flux chambers from early April to late June 2011, during the 3 months following cattle overwintering at the site. This 81-day field study was supplemented with soil analyses of available C and N content and measurement of denitrification activity. In a more detailed field investigation, the daily time course of emissions was determined. The field research was complemented with a laboratory experiment that focused on the short-term time course of N2O and CH4 production in artificially created anoxic soil microsites. The following hypotheses were tested: (i) a large input of C (and N and other nutrients) in cattle manure creates conditions suitable for methanogenesis, and therefore overwintering areas can produce large amounts of CH4; (ii) N2O is produced and emitted until the level of mineral N decreases, while the level of CH4 production is low; and (iii) production of CH4 is greater when N immobilization decreases the level of NO3 in soil. N2O emissions were relatively large during the first 3 weeks, then peaked (at ca. 4000 μg N2ON m−2 h−1) and soon decreased to almost zero; the changes were related to the mineral and soluble organic N content in soil. CH4 fluxes were large, though variable, in the first 2 months (600–3000 μg CH4C m−2 h−1) and were independent of C and N availability. Although time courses differed for CH4 and N2O, a negative relationship between N2O and CH4 emissions was not detected. Contrary to CH4 and N2O fluxes, CO2 emissions progressively increased to ca. 300 mg CO2C m−2 h−1 at the end of the field study and were closely related to air and soil temperatures. Diurnal measurements revealed significant correlations between temperature and emissions of CH4, N2O, and CO2. Addition of C to soil during anaerobic incubation increased the production and consumption of N2O and supported the emission of CH4. The results suggest that rapid denitrification significantly contributes to the exhaustion of oxidizing agents and helps create microsites supporting methanogenesis in otherwise N2O-producing upland soil. The results also indicate that accurate estimate of gas fluxes in animal-impacted grassland areas requires assessment of both diurnal and long-term changes in CH4, CO2, and N2O emissions.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the combined effects of soil moisture and temperature as well as drying/re-wetting and freezing/thawing on soil-atmosphere exchange of CO2 and CH4 of the four dominant land use/cover types (typical steppe, TS; sand dune, SD; mountain meadow, MM; marshland, ML) in the Xilin River catchment, China. For this purpose, intact soil cores were incubated in the laboratory under varying soil moisture and temperature levels according to field conditions in the Xilin River catchment. CO2 and CH4 fluxes were determined approximately daily, while soil CH4 gas profile measurements at four soil depths (5 cm, 10 cm, 20 cm and 30 cm) were measured at least twice per week. Land use/cover generally had a substantial influence on CO2 and CH4 fluxes, with the order of CH4 uptake and CO2 emission rates of the different land use/cover types being TS ≥ MM ≥ SD > ML and MM > TS ≥ SD > ML, respectively. Significant negative soil moisture and positive temperature effects on CH4 uptake were found for most soils, except for ML soils. As for CO2 flux, both significant positive soil moisture and temperature effects were observed for all the soils. The combination of soil moisture and temperature could explain a large part of the variation in CO2 (up to 87%) and CH4 (up to 68%) fluxes for most soils. Drying/re-wetting showed a pronounced stimulation of CO2 emissions for all the soils —with maximum fluxes of 28.4 ± 2.6, 50.0 ± 5.7, 81.9 ± 2.7 and 10.6 ± 1.2 mg C m−2 h−1 for TS, SD, MM and ML soils, respectively—but had a negligible effect on CH4 fluxes (TS: −3.6 ± 0.2; SD: 1.0 ± 0.9; MM: −4.1 ± 1.3; ML: −5.6 ± 0.8; all fluxes in μg C m−2 h−1). Enhanced CO2 emission and CH4 oxidation were observed for all soils during thawing periods. In addition, a very distinct vertical gradient of soil air CH4 concentrations was observed for all land use/cover types, with gradually decreasing CH4 concentrations down to 30 cm soil depth. The changes in soil air CH4 concentration gradients were in accordance with the changes of CH4 fluxes during the entire incubation experiment for all soils.  相似文献

After removal of the above-ground plant debris three different soil layers were taken from a typical coniferous forest and its adjacent orchard in Numata City, Japan. The potentials of soil CH4 uptake at two initial CH4 concentrations were studied under aerobic conditions in the laboratory, along with inhibition of soil CH4 oxidation by urea-N or KNO3-N addition. Due to long-term N inputs, the CH4 uptake of the upper mineral layer of the orchard soil was 25.4% and 87.7% lower than that of the surface forest soil at 2.4 and 12.6 l l–1 CH4, respectively. Methane uptake of the forest soil decreased with increasing soil depths at two CH4 levels. However, maximal CH4-consuming activity occurred in the 9- to 23-cm depth of the orchard soil at 12.6 l l–1 methane. Nitrogen additions in the form of KNO3 or urea at the rate of 200 g N g–1 soil substantially reduced soil CH4 uptake in the upper and sub-surface mineral layers at both sites, except that the addition of KNO3-N had no apparent inhibitory effect on the CH4 uptake in the 9- to 23-cm depth of the orchard soil. A strong inhibitory effect of NO3 addition on the CH4 uptake, in contrast to NH4+, occurred in the surface forest soil. The use of KNO3-N, as compared to urea or urea plus a nitrification inhibitor (dicyandiamide), resulted in a lower potential to cause inhibition of CH4 oxidation in the 0- to 23-cm depth of the orchard soil.  相似文献

Peatlands play an important role in emissions of the greenhouse gases CO2, CH4 and N2O, which are produced during mineralization of the peat organic matter. To examine the influence of soil type (fen, bog soil) and environmental factors (temperature, groundwater level), emission of CO2, CH4 and N2O and soil temperature and groundwater level were measured weekly or biweekly in loco over a one-year period at four sites located in Ljubljana Marsh, Slovenia using the static chamber technique. The study involved two fen and two bog soils differing in organic carbon and nitrogen content, pH, bulk density, water holding capacity and groundwater level. The lowest CO2 fluxes occurred during the winter, fluxes of N2O were highest during summer and early spring (February, March) and fluxes of CH4 were highest during autumn. The temporal variation in CO2 fluxes could be explained by seasonal temperature variations, whereas CH4 and N2O fluxes could be correlated to groundwater level and soil carbon content. The experimental sites were net sources of measured greenhouse gases except for the drained bog site, which was a net sink of CH4. The mean fluxes of CO2 ranged between 139 mg m−2 h−1 in the undrained bog and 206 mg m−2 h−1 in the drained fen; mean fluxes of CH4 were between −0.04 mg m−2 h−1 in the drained bog and 0.05 mg m−2 h−1 in the drained fen; and mean fluxes of N2O were between 0.43 mg m−2 h−1 in the drained fen and 1.03 mg m−2 h−1 in the drained bog. These results indicate that the examined peatlands emit similar amounts of CO2 and CH4 to peatlands in Central and Northern Europe and significantly higher amounts of N2O.  相似文献

Long-term changes in the chemistry of precipitation (1978–94) and 16 lakes (1982–94) were investigated in the Adirondack region of New York, USA. Time-series analysis showed that concentrations of SO4 2–, NO3 , NH4 + and basic cations have decreased in precipitation, resulting in increases in pH. A relatively uniform rate of decline in SO4 2– concentrations in lakes across the region (1.81±0.35 eq L–1 yr–1) suggests that this change was due to decreases in atmospheric deposition. The decrease in lake SO4 2– was considerably less than the rate of decline anticipated from atmospheric deposition. This discrepancy may be due to release of previously deposited SO4 2– from soil, thereby delaying the recovery of lake water acidity. Despite the marked declines in concentrations of SO4 2– in Adirondack lakes, there has been no systematic increase in pH and ANC. The decline in SO4 2– has corresponded with a near stoichiometric decrease in concentrations of basic cations in low ANC lakes. A pattern of increasing NO3 concentrations that was evident in lakes across the region during the 1980's has been followed by a period of lower concentrations. Currently there are no significant trends in NO3 concentrations in Adirondack lakes.  相似文献

The effects of soil texture (silt loam or sandy loam) and cultivation practice (green manure) on the size and spatial distribution of the microbial biomass and its metabolic quotient were investigated in soils planted with a permanent row crop of hops (Humulus lupulus). The soil both between and in the plant rows was sampled at three different depths (0–10, 10–20, and 20–30 cm). The silt loam had a higher overall microbial biomass C concentration (260 g g-1) than the sandy loam (185 g g-1), whereas the sandy loam had a higher (3.1 g CO2-C mg-1 microbial Ch-1) metabolic quotient than the silt loam (2.6 g CO2-C mg-1 microbial C h-1), on average over depth (0–30 cm) and over all treatments. There was a sharp decrease in the microbial biomass with increasing depth for all plots. However, this was more pronounced in the silt loam than in the sandy loam. There was no distinct influence of sampling depth on the metabolic quotient. The microbial biomass was considerably higher in the rows than between the rows, especially in the silt loam plots. There was no significant difference between plots without green manure and plots with green manure for either the microbial biomass or the metabolic quotient.  相似文献

We studied the effects of aggregates of different sizes on the soil microbial biomass. The distribution of aggregate size classes (<2, 2–4, 4–10, >10 mm) in the upper mineral soil horizon (Ah layer) was very different in three sites (upper, intermediate, lower) in a beechwood (Fagus sylvatica) on a basalt hill (Germany). Aggregates of different sizes (<2, 2–4, 4–10 mm) contained different amounts of C and N but the C:N ratios were similar. C and N contents were generally higher in smaller aggregates. The maximum initial respiratory response by microorganisms in intact aggregates and in aggregates passed through a 1-mm sieve declined with the aggregate size, but the difference was more pronounced in intact aggregates. Disruption of aggregates generally increased this response, particularly in 4- to 10-mm aggregates in the lower site. Basal respiration differed strongly among sites, but was similar in each of the aggregate size classes. Aggregate size did not significantly affect the specific respiration (g O2 g–1 microbial C h–1) nor the microbial: organic C ratio, but these parameters differed among sites. Microbial growth was increased strongly by passing the soil through a 1-mm sieve in each of the aggregate materials. The growth of microorganisms in disrupted aggregates was similar, and the effect of aggregate disruption depended on the growth of microorganisms in intact aggregates.  相似文献

To elucidate effect of the CH4 transport capacity of plants on CH4 production and CH4 emission, we measured CH4 emission and the CH4 transport capacity of plants as well as CH4 and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations in porewater and redox potential in the freshwater marsh vegetated with Carex lasiocarpa, Carex meyeriana and Deyeuxia angustifolia. Although only 31% of CH4 emitted was released via Deyeuxia angustifolia into the atmosphere compared to 72–86% via Carex plants and the CH4 transport capacity of per stem of Deyeuxia angustifolia was only 8.0 g CH4 stem–1 h–1 being equal to half for Carex plants, the flux of CH4 emission from the Deyeuxia angustifolia marsh was just lower by 17–28% than those from the Carex marshes as the standing water depth decreased significantly from 15–20 to 5 cm, indicating that despite the poor CH4 transport capability of Deyeuxia angustifolia partly reduced CH4 emission via plants, however CH4 emission was not greatly reduced as expected. This is because although the poor gas transport capability of Deyeuxia angustifolia lowered CH4 emission to some extent, however it also decreased the input of O2 into the rhizosphere via plants; the latter not only reduced CH4 oxidation in the rhizosphere and/or rhizome but also lowered redox potential in the vertical profile resulting in an increase in CH4 production potential and CH4 concentration especially at 5 cm depth, which in turn facilitated CH4 emission through diffusion in the Deyeuxia angustifolia marsh. This study suggests that the sharp decrease in the CH4 transport capacity of plants did not necessary result in an expected lowering of CH4 emission in the freshwater marsh.  相似文献

The influence of light intensity on the effects of 10–6 mol L–1 99Tc on growth, chlorophyll and carotenoid contents of bush bean plants was investigated. After germination and cotyledon excision, the plants were grown in a growth chamber either under low light (photosynthetic active radiation, PAR 144 E m–2 s–1) or higher light (PAR 307 E M–2 s–1) conditions. In plants grown under the higher light conditions, 99Tc hardly affected CO2-assimilation, dark respiration, pigment contents and growth. No toxicity symptoms were observed in these plants. Under low light conditions, 99T c significantly decreased growth and the concentration of chlorophylls. Toxicity symptoms in the form of chlorosis and necrosis developed. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations revealed alterations of chloroplast ultrastructure comparable to those described for plants slightly affected by paraquat toxicity or by Mo-deficiency. Our results indicate that in the low light plants 99Tc induces damage in chloroplasts by peroxidation of membrane lipids.  相似文献

The effects of wheat straw and different forms of N on denitrification and N immobilization were studied in an anaerobic water-sediment system. The water-sediment system was supplemented with various combinations of wheat straw and 15N-labelled and unlabelled (NH4)2SO4 or KNO3, and incubated anaerobically at 30°C for 10 days. 15N-labelled and unlabelled NO inf3 sup- , NO inf2 sup- , NH inf4 sup+ , and organic N were determined in the water-sediment system. The gases evolved (N2, CO2, N2O, and CH4) were analyzed by gas chromatography at regular intervals. Larger quantities of 15N2–N and organic 15N were formed in wheat straw-amended systems than in non-amended systems. Trends in CO2 production were similar to those of N2–N evolution. The evolution of N2O and CH4 was negligible. Denitrification processes accounted for about 22 and 71% of the added 15NO inf3 sup- –N in the absence and presence of wheat straw, respectively. The corresponding denitrification rates were 3.4 and 12.4 g 15Ng-1 dry sediment day-1. In systems amended with 15NO inf3 sup- –N and 15NO inf3 sup- +NH inf4 sup+ –N without wheat straw, 1.82 and 1.58%, respectively, of the added 15NH inf3 sup- –N was immobilized. The corresponding figures for the same systems supplemented with wheat straw were 5.08 and 4.10%, respectively. Immobilization of 15NO inf4 sup+ –N was higher than that of 15NO inf3 sup- –N. The presence of NO inf3 sup- –N did not stimulate NH inf4 sup+ –N immobilization.  相似文献

To investigate the consequences of long-term N additions on soil CH4 dynamics, we measured in situ CH4 uptake rates, soil profiles and kinetics parameters during the growing season in a temperate deciduous forest in northwestern Pennsylvania (Allegheny College Bousson Environmental Forest). Measurements were made in control and adjacent plots amended with 100 kg N ha–1 year–1 for 8 years. We found that the in situ consumption rates were 0.19±0.02 (mean±SE) for the control and 0.12±0.01 mg CH4–C m–2 h–1 for the N treatment, indicating that consumption had been reduced by 35% after 8 years of N amendments. Despite the large difference in rates of consumption, there were no differences in the CH4 concentration profiles between the control and N-amended plots. Laboratory incubations of CH4 consumption throughout the soil column (organic horizon and mineral soil depths) showed that rates were greatest in the organic horizon of both control and N-amended soils, although consumption was reduced by 42% in the N-amended plot. However, the rate in the organic horizon was only about 50% the rate measured in organic horizons at other temperate forests. The apparent Km [Km(app)] value in the organic horizon of the control plot was fourfold less than the Km(app) value in the organic horizon of another temperate forest, but similar to the Km(app) values in adjacent plots amended with N for a decade. Unlike results for other temperate forests, Km(app) values at Bousson generally did not decrease with soil depth. These results indicate that N cycling strongly controls the CH4-consuming community, and suggest that alterations of the N cycle due to N deposition or addition may alter rates and the location of CH4 consumption by soils, even in soils with high N content and cycling rates.  相似文献

High-elevation red spruce-Fraser fir forests in the Southern Appalachian mountains: 1) receive among the highest rates of atmospheric deposition measured in North America, 2) contain old-growth forests, 3) have shown declines in forest health, 4) have sustained high insect-caused fir mortality, and 5) contain poorly buffered soils and stream systems. High rates of nitrogen and sulphur deposition (1900 and 2200 Eq·ha–1·yr–1, respectively) are dominated by dry and cloud deposition processes. Large leaching fluxes of nitrate-nitrogen (100–1400 Eq·ha–1·yr–1) occur within the soil profile. We have expanded the study to the watershed scale with monitoring of: precipitation, throughfall, stream hydrology, and stream chemistry. Two streamlets drain the 17.4 ha Noland Divide Watershed (1676–1920m) located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A network of 50 20x20 m plots is being used to assess stand structure, biomass, and soil nutrient pools. Nitrate is the predominant anion in the streamlets (weighted concentrations: 47 and 54 eq·L–1 NO3 ; 31 and 43 eq·L–1 SO4 2–). Watershed nitrate export is extremely high (1000 Eq·ha–1 yr–1), facilitating significant base cation exports. Stream acid neutralizing capacity values are extremely low (–10 to 20 eq·L–1) and episodic acidifications (pH declines of a full unit in days or weeks time) occur. Annual streamwater sulfate export is on the order of 770 Eq·ha–1yr–1 or about one-third of total annual inputs, indicating there is net watershed sulfate retention. The system is highly nitrogen saturated (Stage 2, Stoddard, 1994) and this condition promotes both chronic and episodic stream acidification.  相似文献

Cultivation of rice in unsaturated soils covered with mulch is receiving more attention in China because of increasingly serious water shortage; however, greenhouse gas emission from this cultivation system is still poorly understood. A field experiment was conducted in 2001 to compare nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) emission from rice cultivated in unsaturated soil covered with plastic or straw mulch and the traditional waterlogged production system. Trace gas fluxes from the soil were measured weekly throughout the entire growth period using a closed chamber method. Nitrous oxide emissions from unsaturated rice fields were large and varied considerably during the rice season. They were significantly affected by N fertilizer application rate. In contrast, N2O emission from the waterlogged system was very low with a maximum of 0.28 mg N2O m–2 h–1. However, CH4 emission from the waterlogged system was significantly higher than from the unsaturated system, with a maximum emission rate of 5.01 mg CH4 m–2 h–1. Our results suggested that unsaturated rice cultivation with straw mulch reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  相似文献

Summary A Pakistani soil (Hafizabad silt loam) was incubated at 30°C with varying levels of 15N-labelled ammonium sulphate and glucose (C/N ratio of 30 at each addition rate) in order to generate different insitu levels of 15N-labelled microbial biomass. At a stage when all of the applied 15N was in organic forms, as biomass and products, the soil samples were analysed for biomass N by the chloroform (CHCl3) fumigation-extraction method, which involves exposure of the soil to CHCl3 vapour for 24 h followed by extraction with 500 mM K2SO4. A correction is made for inorganic and organic N in 500 mM K2SO4 extracts of the unfumigated soil. Results obtained using this approach were compared with the amounts of immobilized 15N extracted by 500 mM K2SO4 containing different amounts of CHCl3. The extraction time varied from 0.5 to 4 h.The amount of N extracted ranged from 27 to 270 g g–1, the minimum occurring at the lowest (67 g g–1) and the maximum at the highest (333 g g–1) N-addition rate. Extractability of biomass 15N ranged from 25% at the lowest N-addition rate to 65%a for the highest rate and increased consistently with an increase in the amount of 15N and glucose added. The amounts of both soil N and immobilized 15N extracted with 500 mM K2SO4 containing CHCl3 increased with an increase in extraction time and in concentration of CHCl3. The chloroform fumigation-extraction method gives low estimates for biomass N because some of the organic N in K2SO4 extracts of unfumigated soil is derived from biomass.  相似文献

We examined net greenhouse gas exchange at the soil surface in deciduous forests on soils with high organic contents. Fluxes of CO2, CH4 and N2O were measured using dark static chambers for two consecutive years in three different forest types; (i) a drained and medium productivity site dominated by birch, (ii) a drained and highly productive site dominated by alder and (iii) an undrained and highly productive site dominated by alder. Although the drained sites had shallow mean groundwater tables (15 and 18 cm, respectively) their average annual rates of forest floor CO2 release were almost twice as high compared to the undrained site (1.9±0.4 and 1.7±0.3, compared to 1.0±0.2 kg CO2 m−2 yr−1). The average annual CH4 emission was almost 10 times larger at the undrained site (7.6±3.1 compared to 0.9±0.5 g CH4 m−2 yr−1 for the two drained sites). The average annual N2O emissions at the undrained site (0.1±0.05 g N2O m−2 yr−1) were lower than at the drained sites, and the emissions were almost five times higher at the drained alder site than at the drained birch site (0.9±0.35 compared to 0.2±0.11 g N2O m−2 yr−1). The temporal variation in forest floor CO2 release could be explained to a large extent by differences in groundwater table and air temperature, but little of the variation in the CH4 and N2O fluxes could be explained by these variables. The measured soil variables were only significant to explain for the within-site spatial variation in CH4 and N2O fluxes at the undrained swamp, and dark forest floor CO2 release was not explained by these variables at any site. The between-site spatial variation was attributed to variations in drainage, groundwater level position, productivity and tree species for all three gases. The results indicate that N2O emissions are of greater importance for the net greenhouse gas exchange at deciduous drained forest sites than at coniferous drained forest sites.  相似文献
