A dead tree of Pinus armandii Franch. var. amamiana (Koidz.) Hatusima (abbreviated to PAAm) was obtained from a natural habitat on Tanega-shima Island and various properties of its wood were investigated. Grain angle was measured and soft X-ray analysis was undertaken to obtain the density in each annual ring. Unit shrinkage and dynamic properties were measured by shrinkage, bending, and compression tests. Variations of wood properties in the radial direction, relationships of wood properties to density, and annual ring width were examined. Roughly speaking, variations in the radial direction of the grain angle, twist angle by drying, Young’s modulus and strength in static bending, absorbed energy in impact bending, compressive Young’s modulus, compressive strength, and compressive proportional limit corresponded to the variation of annual ring width. As a result, it was determined that if PAAm is afforested artificially for the purposes of lumber production and conservation, the annual rings of logs should not be too widely spaced. Wood properties of PAAm were similar to those of Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii Parl.), which is another representative pine on Tanegashima Island. The variation in strength properties with density was compared between semi-isostatically densified and non-densified wood. Strength properties were compared with published data from earlier studies using other methods for densification. Small clear specimens of eight species were analysed for compression strength in axial, radial and tangential direction, three-point bending and Brinell hardness. After densification, all tested strength properties increased with density, but especially strength perpendicular to grain became lower than expected from the density of non-densified wood. Strength of densified wood relative to what could be expected for non-densified wood of similar density was denoted as ‘strength potential index’. For axial compression strength and bending strength, strength potential index of individual wood species varied between 0.7 and 1.0, i.e. densified wood is slightly weaker than what could be expected from its density. Strength potential index was lower for properties much determined by strength perpendicular to grain. In radial direction, densified wood was rubbery with low modulus of elasticity and nearly no proportional limit or modulus of rupture. Generally, wood was apparently weakened in proportion to the degree of compression in respective direction. Strength potential index also increased with increasing original density of the species.  相似文献

Summary Compression wood (CW) of the giant sequoia studied had higher values than normal wood (NW) in crushing strength and ultimate stress in tension parallel to grain, in toughness, in modulus of rupture, and in work to maximum load and total work in static bending. In the green condition CW had higher values than NW in stress at the proportional limit and work to the proportional limit, and about the same modulus of elasticity in static bending. In the dry condition CW was about equivalent to NW in work to the proportional limit, but was slightly weaker in stress at proportional limit and modulus of elasticity in static bending. The compression wood of this giant sequoia, even though formed when the tree was suppressed and having relatively narrow rings, can therefore be said to be essentially equivalent to normal wood so far as the mechanical properties tested in this study are concerned.Given at FPRS meeting in Dallas, Texas, June 1972  相似文献

We examined the bending and shear properties of compressed wood using small and clear specimens of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis Carr.). For measuring the bending properties, three-point bending tests were conducted under the span/depth ratio of 14, which is standardized in the American Society for Testing and Materials [ASTM D143-94 (2005a)] and Japanese Industrial Standards [JIS Z2101-94 (1994)]. In the bending test, the load, deflection at the midspan, and strain at the bottom of the midspan were simultaneously measured, and Young’s modulus and bending strength were obtained by elementary beam theory. For obtaining the shear modulus and shear strength, asymmetric four-point bending tests were conducted using the specimens with rectangular and side-grooved cross sections, respectively, and the influence of the compression ratio on the shear properties was examined. The results are summarized as follows: (1) Young’s modulus increased with increasing compression ratio when it was determined by the load–strain relation. Nevertheless, this tendency was rather obscured when Young’s modulus was determined by the load–deflection relation. Hence, it is preferable that Young’s modulus is measured from the load–strain relation. (2) The shear modulus in the longitudinal–tangential plane was maximum at the compression ratio of 50%, whereas that in the longitudinal–radial plane was minimum at the compression ratio of 50%. (3) The influence of the compression on the bending and shear strength ratio was not significant.  相似文献

研究了不同培育措施(初植密度、间伐强度、坡向、坡位)对人工林樟子松(Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica)木材的密度和力学性质(横纹抗弯强度、抗弯弹性模量、顺纹抗压强度、冲击韧性、端面硬度)的影响。初植密度(1.5m×1.0m,1.5m×2.0m和1.5m×2.5m)对木材密度和抗弯弹性模量有显著的影响。初植密度为1.5m×1.0m时,木材主要力学指标值最大。适当间伐可提高木材的抗弯弹性模量和顺纹抗压强度,但重度间伐则会降低木材的力学强度。坡向(阳坡和阴坡)对木材的抗弯弹性模量影响显著,阳坡高于阴坡。坡位(上坡位和下坡位)对除端面硬度外的木材力学性质指标影响都显著,各项力学指标值均是坡下高于坡上。表5参9。  相似文献

Since the structure of oil palm wood varies dramatically, the property gradients of oil palm wood within a trunk are of great interest. In this study, the physical (density, water uptake and swelling in the radial direction) and mechanical properties (bending modulus of elasticity and strength, compressive modulus of elasticity and strength in the direction parallel to the fiber, compressive strength in the direction perpendicular to the fiber and shear strength in the direction parallel to the fiber) of oil palm wood for a whole trunk were examined. The water uptake, compressive strength in the direction perpendicular to the fiber, shear strength in the direction parallel to the fiber, bending modulus of elasticity and strength and compressive modulus of elasticity and strength in the direction parallel to the fiber appeared to be independent of trunk height but tended to be related to the relative distance from surface or density by a single master curve. However, the swelling in the radial direction of the oil palm wood was not correlated with the relative distance from the surface, trunk height or density. Finally, property map of oil palm wood for a cross section at any height was prepared for practical use.  相似文献

Laminated products, such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL) or plywood (PW), have become important recently. The objective of this study was to determine and compare properties of panels fabricated with veneers of Gmelina arborea trees in a fast-growth plantation and glued with phenol formaldehyde resin. The results showed that LVL and PW physical and mechanical properties are comparable to those of solid wood with a specify gravity of 0.60. Moreover, these panels can be cataloged into group 2 of PS 1–95 of the Voluntary Products Standard of the United States. The difference in physical properties was not statistically significant between LVL and PW panels, except for water absorption. Some mechanical properties, such as hardness and glue-line shear, modulus of rupture in perpendicular flexure, nail and screw withdrawal parallel, and perpendicular strength, were statistically different between LVL and PW. However, no differences were established for the modulus of elasticity, tensile strength parallel to the surface, or tensile strength perpendicular to the surface. The differences were attributed to the venners’ orientation in the panels studied.  相似文献

采集浙江各地不同树龄木荷木材,通过系统研究木材解剖性质,主要物理力学性质,刨切、旋切等加工利用适应性等,结果表明:树龄20~25 a是木荷木材密度、干缩性、硬度、抗弯强度、抗弯弱性模量、抗压强度及抗剪强度的一个转折点,其主要物理性质和力学强度指标居国产阔叶树材中等级水平;旋切单板胶合强度超过国家标准规定的技术要求,木荷材完全适合生产胶合板;刨切贴面板的刨切效果和贴面后的性能都较好,综合指标相对较高.  相似文献

Formation of benzyl esters from acetic and formic acids during heat treatment of birch at 160–200°C has been studied by gas chromatography. High concentrations of formic and acetic acids formed by the wood itself during hydrothermal treatment were found. The concentrations of acids increased with both treatment time and temperature. The maximum formic- and acetic acid concentrations found at 180°C and after 4 h of treatment performed in this work were 1.1 and 7.2%, based on dry-weight wood, respectively. The treated wood material was characterised by mechanical testing [bending tests perpendicular to the grain, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, Brinell hardness, impact bending and colour measurements (CIE colour space)]. The experiments, where high concentration of acids was formed, showed severe losses in mass and mechanical strength. Indications of possible enhanced mechanical properties for the treated, compared with untreated birch wood were found around 180–200°C at short treatment times. This paper discusses possible degradation reactions coupled with the colour and mechanical properties in relation to acid formation, and suggestions for process optimisations.  相似文献

We measured Young's modulus, proportional limit stress, and bending strength by the compression bending test and examined the applicability of the testing method by comparing it with conventional bending test methods. Long columns of todomatsu (Japanese fir,Abies sachalinensis Fr. Schmidt) with various length/thickness ratios were the specimens. A compressive load was axially applied to the specimen supported with pin ends. Young's modulus, the proportional limit stress, and the bending strength were obtained from the load-loading point displacement and load-strains at the outer surfaces until the occurrence of bending failure. Four-point bending tests were also conducted, and the bending properties obtained were compared with the corresponding properties obtained by the compression bending tests. Based on the experimental results, we believe that when the stress-strain relation is measured by the load-loading point displacement relation using specimens whose length/thickness ratio is large enough, the bending properties can be obtained properly using the compression bending test.  相似文献

The object of this study was to investigate the strength properties of edge-glued laminae and to propose a suitable grading method based on the lamina modulus of elasticity (MOE). Edge-glued laminae composed of lumber with similar MOEs (uniform laminae) and edge-glued laminae produced by randomly gluing lumber independent of MOE (random laminae) were made from karamatsu (Larix kaempferi) lumber having the same thickness and length, but various widths. For both the uniform and random laminae, there was a strong correlation between MOE values measured using the longitudinal vibration technique, the static bending test, and a grading machine. The average values of bending, tensile, and compressive strengths of the uniform laminae were similar to those of the random laminae. On the other hand, the average strength of laminae without end joints was significantly higher than that of finger-jointed laminae for both uniform and random laminae. Finger-joints and knots played a significant role in the failure of specimens, but the edge-gluing and the difference in MOE within an edge-glued lamina did not appear to affect the strength properties. The bending, tensile, and compressive strengths of edge-glued laminae were strongly correlated to the lamina MOE.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to establish the method of evaluating wood mechanical properties by acoustic nondestructive testing at standing trees and at logs of a Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook.) plantation, and to compare three acoustic nondestructive methods for evaluating the static bending modulus of elasticity (MOE), modulus of rupture (MOR), and compressive strength parallel-to-grain (σc) of plantation wood as well. Fifteen Chinese fir plantation trees at 36 years of age were selected. Each tree was cut into four logs, for which three values of dynamic modulus of elasticity, i.e., E sw, of the north and south face based on stress waves to assume the measuring state of the standing tree, E fr, longitudinal vibration, and E us, ultrasonic wave, were measured in the green condition. After log measurements, small specimens were cut and air-dried to 12% moisture content (MC). Static bending tests were then performed to determine the bending MOE and MOR, and compressive tests parallel-to-grain were made to determine σc. The bending MOE of small clear specimens was about 7.1% and 15.4% less than E sw and E us, respectively, and 11.3% greater than E fr. The differences between the bending MOE and dynamic MOE of logs as determined by the three acoustic methods were statistically significant (P < 0.001). Good correlation (R = 0.77, 0.57, and 0.45) between E sw, E fr, and E us and static MOE, respectively, were obtained (P < 0.001). It can be concluded that longitudinal vibration may be the most precise and reliable technique to evaluate the mechanical properties of logs among these three acoustic nondestructive methods. Moreover, the results indicate that stress wave technology would be effective to evaluate wood mechanical properties both from logs and from the standing tree.  相似文献

通过对樟子松和柞木分别在常压和一定蒸汽压力下进行热处理,比较了不同热处理木材与常规对照材的力学性能差异。结果表明:热处理使木材的抗弯强度和冲击韧性出现明显下降,然而,就抗弯弹性模量和顺纹抗压强度而言,除樟子松的MOE指标外,经过热处理的试材的性能指标都高于对照材。和常压热处理相比,压力蒸汽热处理进一步降低了试材的力学强度,但这一差异并不显著。木材化学组分分析表明,热处理材力学性能的变化主要归因于热处理过程中木材半纤维素的降解以及木素在热处理过程中的化学变化。  相似文献

对刺楸木材的理化性质进行了研究,分析了刺楸的材性。结果表明:(1)刺楸木材的绝干密度为0.57g/cm^3,差异干缩为0.68,说明刺楸的干燥性能较好;(2)根据木材力学性质划分方法,除抗弯弹性模量属低级外,抗弯强度、顺纹抗压强度、综合强度、冲击韧性,均为中等;(3)刺楸的综纤维素含量为82.20%,克见纤维素为43.86%,木素含量为17.6%,符合造纸工业的要求;(4)根据刺楸的理化性质,刺楸可作为优质家具材料、装饰材料、造纸原料。  相似文献

Thermal modification at relatively high temperatures (ranging from 150 to 260 °C) is an effective method to improve the dimensional stability and resistance against fungal attack. This study was performed to investigate the impact of heat treatment on the mechanical properties of wood. An industrially-used two-stage heat treatment method under relative mild conditions (< 200 °C) was used to treat the boards. Heat treatment revealed a clear effect on the mechanical properties of softwood species. The tensile strength parallel to the grain showed a rather large decrease, whereas the compressive strength parallel to the fibre increased after heat treatment. The bending strength, which is a combination of the tensile stress, compressive stress and shear stress, was lower after heat treatment. This decrease was less than the decrease of only the tensile strength. The impact strength showed a rather large decrease after heat treatment. An increase of the modulus of elasticity during the bending test has been noticed after heat treatment. Changes and/or modifications of the main wood components appear to be involved in the effects of heat treatment on the mechanical properties. The possible effect of degradation and modification of hemicelluloses, degradation and/or crystallization of amorphous cellulose, and polycondensation reactions of lignin on the mechanical properties of heat treated wood have been discussed. The effect of natural defects, such as knots, resin pockets, abnormal slope of grain and reaction wood, on the strength properties of wood appeared to be affected by heat treatment. Nevertheless, heat treated timber shows potential for use in constructions, but it is important to carefully consider the stresses that occur in a construction and some practical consequences when heat treated timber is used.  相似文献

This work investigated some mechanical, physical and free formaldehyde emission properties of heat-treated MDF. For this purpose, MDF panels were subjected to varying heat treatment temperatures (155°C, 165°C and 175°C), durations (2.5?h., 3.5?h. and 4.5?h.) and waiting times after hot pressing (30?min., 120?min. and 600?min). Thickness swelling (TS), water absorption (WA), free formaldehyde emission (FFE), bending strength (BS), modulus of elasticity (MOE), tensile strength perpendicular to fibers (TSPF) for treated and untreated samples were tested and evaluated statistically. Consequently, after the heat treatment values of tensile strength, bending strength and modulus of elasticity were almost negatively affected relatively, but the thickness swelling and water absorption and quantities of free formaldehyde were improved positively of MDF samples.  相似文献

通过对来自福建建瓯试验地16个毛竹种源竹材的密度、顺纹抗压强度、顺纹抗剪强度、顺纹抗拉强度和弦向抗弯强度及其弹性模量等物理力学性质的初步研究,结果表明:竹材物理力学性质在各种源之间存在一定的差异,其中湖南株洲的毛竹竹材物理力学性质比于其它种源的毛竹要好,而安徽霍山的毛竹竹材的物理力学性质较差,测量的各指标中有基本密度、抗剪强度、抗拉强度三项指标都达到最低;竹材密度的大小、抗拉强度的高低随种源纬度的降低而呈降低的趋势,而竹材的抗剪强度呈与之相反的趋势。  相似文献

对3种追肥处理1(N300P200K200)、处理2(N200P100K150)和处理3(N100P50K50),从12、27、42、50、62、75、88、99、110、144到192月生的尾巨桉生长量数据进行了统计分析,并在198月生时对每种施肥处理取7株样木进行了木材的基本密度、抗弯强度、弹性模量、硬度、干缩率以及皱缩率等指标开展研究,结果如下:追肥量与生长量成正相关关系.追肥量越多,生长量越大,这种差距从追肥后就开始产生,一直到192月生时都存在;但是,这种差距在大部分时间里都未达到显著水平:达到显著差距的只有施肥处理1和处理3之间,27月生时DBH达到0.01的显著性差异、平均高在12、27和37月生时达到0.05的显著性差异、蓄积量在27、37、42和50月生时达到0.05的显著性差异.材性指标上,大径材木材材性与追肥量的关系密切,增大施肥会影响木材材性,包括降低抗弯强度,增加弹性模量,降低端、径面和弦面硬度,降低基本密度,增加木材含水率等;达到显著差异的有:木材的抗弯强度、径面硬度被显著降低,达到了0.05的显著水平.木材边材基本密度降低更大,达到了0.01的极显著水平.经过多重比较的分析,都是常规施肥处理3与处理2和常规施肥处理3与处理1两两之间差异显著.处理1和2比处理3的抗弯强度平均分别降低了12%和14%、径面硬度分别降低了11.7%和14.1%,而边材基本密度分别降低了8.6%和8.1%;因此,在培育桉树大径材时,一定要考虑合理施肥量.  相似文献
