Duckweed (Lemna minor), a floating macrophyte belonging to the Lemnaceae family, is commonly found in subtropical paddy fields. This plant rapidly takes up nutrients from water and forms dense floating mats over the water surface that may impact the biogeochemical processes and greenhouse gas production in paddy fields. In this study, we measured CH4 and N2O emissions from duckweed and non-duckweed plots in a subtropical paddy field in China during the period of rice growth using static chamber and gas chromatography methods. Our results showed that CH4 emission rate ranged from 0.19 to 26.50 mg m?2 h?1 in the duckweed plots, and from 1.02 to 28.02 mg m?2 h?1 in the non-duckweed plots. The CH4 emission peak occurred about 1 week earlier in the duckweed plots compared to the non-duckweed counterparts. The mean CH4 emission rate in the duckweed plots (9.28 mg m?2 h?1) was significantly lower than that in non-duckweed plots (11.66 mg m?2 h?1) (p < 0.05), which might be attributed to the higher water and soil Eh in the former. N2O emission rates varied between ?50.11 and 201.82 µg m?2 h?1, and between ?28.93 and 54.42 µg m?2 h?1 in the duckweed and non-duckweed plots, respectively. The average N2O emission rate was significantly higher in the duckweed plots than in the non-duckweed plots (40.29 vs. 11.93 µg m?2 h?1) (p < 0.05). Our results suggest that the presence of duckweed will reduce CH4 emission, but increase N2O flux simultaneously. Taking into account the combined global warming potentials of CH4 and N2O, we found that growing duckweed could reduce the overall greenhouse effect of subtropical paddy fields by about 17 %.  相似文献

Potato mop top virus (PMTV) induced necrosis can cause tuber quality loss at harvest and storage. Stored potatoes help maintain a constant supply of potatoes to the market and processing industry. PMTV-induced necrosis continues to develop during storage and appropriate timelines are needed for growers to make marketing decisions of their potatoes before incurring any significant quality losses. Survival analysis was used to estimate the time to event occurrence (PMTV-induced necrosis) in four (red-, russet-, white-, and yellow-skinned) potato market types across six post-harvest assessments conducted over two years. At each assessment the presence and absence of PMTV-induced necrosis was recorded and probability of tuber survival was estimated. Survival curves were significantly different among the four market type potato cultivars (Log-Rank test, P < 0.0005). Red- and russet-market type cultivars showed low and high survival probability, respectively, demonstrating that red cultivars need priority marketing. The survival probabilities decreased with increased storage time during both years, indicating that PMTV-induced necrosis development is dependent on potato cultivar and post-harvest storage. The median (50% of tubers with symptoms) survival times were estimated as 167 and 214 days for red- and other market type potato cultivars. The information from this study could potentially help growers regulate storage times for their cultivars to minimize tuber quality loss due to PMTV-induced tuber necrosis.  相似文献

Vietnam is one of the world’s top two rice exporting countries. However, rice cultivation is the primary source of agriculture’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Vietnam. In particular, strategies are required to reduce GHG emissions associated with the application of organic and inorganic fertilisers. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of various combinations of biochar (BIOC), compost (COMP) and slow-release urea (SRU) on methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. In total, 1170 gas samples were collected from closed gas chambers in rice paddies at Thinh Long commune and Rang Dong farm in northern Vietnam between June and October 2014. The gas samples were analysed for CH4-C and N2O-N fluxes using gas chromatography. The application of BIOC alone resulted in the lowest CH4 emissions (4.8–59 mg C m?2 h?1) and lowest N2O emissions (0.15–0.26 µg N m?2 h?1). The combined application of nitrogen–phosphorus–potassium (NPK) + COMP emitted the highest CH4 (14–72 mg C m?2 h?1), while ½NPK + BIOC emitted the highest N2O (1.03 µg N m?2 h?1 in the TL commune), but it was the second lowest (0.495 µg N m?2 h?1) in the RD farm. Green urea and orange urea reduced N2O emissions significantly (p < 0.05) compared to white urea, but no significant differences were observed with respect to CH4 emissions. SRU fertilisers and BIOC alone measured the lowest greenhouse gas intensity, i.e. <2.5 and 3 kg CO2 eq. kg?1 rice grain, respectively. Based on these results, application of fertilisers in the form of BIOC and/or orange or green urea could be a viable option to reduce both CH4 and N2O emissions from rice paddy soils.  相似文献

本文以‘美中红’番木瓜为试材,研究了热处理复合香茅精油处理对番木瓜果实采后保鲜效果及软化相关酶的影响,测定了贮藏过程中果实失重率、硬度、颜色、可溶性固形物(TSS)、可滴定酸(TA)、维生素C(Vc)和呼吸速率,还测定了多聚半乳糖醛酸酶(PG)、果胶甲酯酶(PE)、纤维素酶(CL)和β-半乳糖苷酶(β-GAL)等软化相关酶的活性。结果表明:热处理复合香茅精油处理可显著降低番木瓜果实病情指数和失重率,延缓果实硬度下降和颜色的转黄,提高果实中的TSS和Vc含量和果实固酸比,降低果实呼吸速率,延迟呼吸高峰的出现;复合处理可降低果实PG酶、PE酶和β-GAL酶活性,延迟PE酶峰值的出现,对CL酶活性影响不显著。可见,复合处理对番木瓜果实有较好的保鲜效果,复合处理延缓果实硬度下降与降低呼吸速率以及降低PG酶、PE酶和β-GAL酶活性密切相关。  相似文献

Chemical agents may be used to overcome dormancy in potato tubers so as to permit early planting. In this paper, the effect of carbon disulphide on sprouting and related metabolic processes in potato tubers grown from true potato seed (TPS) was investigated. Carbon disulphide was applied to potato tubers derived from TPS, at a rate of 20 ml m?3 container volume for 72 h. It accelerated tuber sprouting and increased tuber weight loss. It also caused an increase in the respiration rate, as well as ethylene emission from the tubers during the first 6 days after treatment. The respiration rate of carbon disulphide-treated tubers remained at a higher level than that of untreated controls for 35 days after treatment. In addition, carbon disulphide increased the concentrations of the soluble sugars sucrose and fructose, but not glucose, in the tuber tissues (buds, parenchyma). These findings suggest that carbon disulphide releases potato minitubers from dormancy and that dormancy breakage is associated with changes in tuber metabolism prior to the visible sprouting.  相似文献

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is an important source of dietary carbohydrate and cash income generation for farmers in the tropical highlands of Kenya. The feasibility for cold storage at the farm level is limited due to the high costs of maintaining such a facility and there is limited data on the long-term post-harvest storage and quality of tubers of tropical-adapted cultivars. Application of sprout suppressants to control premature sprouting of ware potato is an attractive proposition. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the efficacy of pre-harvest foliar applications of paclobutrazol (PBZ) and ethephon for sprout suppression on ware potato tubers in storage. Post-harvest spray applications of Isopropyl N-(3-chlorophenyl carbamate) chloropropham (CIPC) and 1,4-dimethylnaphthalene (DMN) on tubers as fog was also evaluated. Potato cultivars had varying levels of tuber dormancy. The tubers were stored at ambient temperature (23 C) and evaluated weekly for 24 weeks for percent of tubers sprouting, length of longest sprouts, tuber weight loss and assessed for dormancy for 24 weeks. Paclobutrazol prolonged tuber dormancy by 21–31 days and reduced tuber weight loss. Ethephon treatment had no effect on dormancy and tuber weight loss. Potato tubers treated with CIPC had greater sprout control than the other treatments in storage. Tuber response to DMN treatment varied among the three potato cultivars evaluated. The findings from this study imply that PBZ is effective in prolonging potato tuber dormancy for short-term basis at 23 C, while CIPC applied on tubers was effective for long term storage. Optimization of post-harvest potato storage can improve food security in the highland tropics.  相似文献

The prebiotic effect of different concentrations of inulin (0, 1 and 2%) on the growth and survival of Lactobacillus plantarum (LP) CECT 220 in blended carrot and orange juices was investigated after 24 h of fermentation, during 30 days of storage at 4 °C and through the phases of gastrointestinal digestion after different storage periods. Microbiological and chemical determinations were also carried out in all juices. The lactic fermentation increased the shelf life of the fermented juices with inulin. The hygienic-sanitary quality in fermented juices was better than the control juices. During storage, the inulin improved the viability of LP and the monosaccharide concentration remained higher with respect to the juice without inulin (40% lower). At 30 days, the fermented juices with 2% inulin after in vitro digestion presented the highest survival of L. plantarum.  相似文献

Macropores resulting from soil pedogenesis, biological activity, and agricultural practices play important roles in soil water, chemical and gas transport; however, seldom studies focus on the effect of soil macropores on CO2 behavior. In this study, a 150-day soil column incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the CO2 behavior in a homogeneous soil column and a soil column with an artificial macropore, which have the same total porosity. The results showed that the cumulative CO2 fluxes observed in the soil with a macropore (57.2 g m?2) were higher than those in the homogeneous soil (52.7 g m?2). The soil cumulative CO2 fluxes measured using column incubation can fit the kinetic model, and a higher carbon mineralization rate in the soil with the macropore was found. The results of the incubation experiment also suggest that macropore increased the gas diffusivities, and thus decreased the CO2 concentrations in the soil profile. This study proposed a simulation experiment and quantified the effect of macropore on soil CO2 behavior, which could help to understand the mechanism of CO2 emission from soil with macropores especially caused by agricultural practices.  相似文献

Avocado fruit has high economic value; however, major post-harvest losses are encountered throughout the supply chain mostly due to anthracnose disease caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Increasing consumer concern regarding food safety and demand for organically produced fruits makes it necessary to search for natural environmentally friendly alternative products and processes for the fruit industry; particularly in disease control. Antifungal effects of Gum Arabic (GA) (10%), Aloe vera (AL) (2%), chitosan (CH) (1%) alone or in combination with thyme oil (1%) were investigated in vitro. CH + thyme oil and AL + thyme oil [1:1 or 3:1 v/v] showed fungicidal effects while AL, CH, GA and GA + thyme oil [3:1 v/v] showed fungistatic effects on mycelial growth of C. gloeosporioides in vitro. CH and AL coatings alone or in combination with thyme oil [3:1 v/v], either as preventative or curative treatments in comparison with commercial treatment (prochloraz, 0.05%) and untreated control were evaluated on incidence and severity (lesion diameter) of anthracnose in vivo. Preventative CH + thyme oil treatments significantly reduced the severity of anthracnose (8.9 mm) compared to thyme oil (12.7 mm), AL + TO (14.4 mm), CH (17.8 mm), AL (20.6 mm), PZ (18.3 mm) and untreated samples (34.8 mm). As curative method, the CH + thyme oil combination also reduced the severity of anthracnose by at least 4 mm compared to the other treatments. The total phenols, polyphenol oxidase, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, β-1,3-glucanase, chitinase, catalase and superoxide dismutase activities, firmness and flesh colour were also determined. Results showed an increase in peroxidase, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, β-1,3-glucanase, chitinase, catalase and superoxide dismutase activities and total phenolics with reduced loss of firmness and flesh colour following CH + thyme oil treatments. This investigation recommends CH + thyme oil [3:1 v/v] combination treatment as a suitable alternative to the currently adopted prochloraz applications in controlling anthracnose disease in avocado fruit during storage.  相似文献

We studied the effects of water regimes and nutrient amendments on CH4 and N2O emissions in a 2 × 3 factorial, completely randomised growth chamber experiment. Treatments included continuously flooded (CF) and alternate wetting and drying (AWD), and three organic amendments: no amendment-control, rice straw (RS) and biochar (BC). Compound fertiliser was applied to all treatments. Rice was grown in columns packed with a paddy soil from Cambodia. Results revealed faster mineralisation of organic carbon (RS and BC) when applied in water-saturated conditions lasting for 2 weeks instead of flooding. This resulted in lower total CH4 emissions in treatments under AWD than those under the CF water regime, namely 44 % in RS treatments and 29 % in BC treatments. Nitrous oxide fluxes were generally non-detectable during the experimental period except after fertilisation events, and the total N2O–N emissions accounted for on average 1.7 % of the total applied mineral fertiliser N. Overall, the global warming potentials (GWPs) were lower in treatments under AWD than those under the CF water regime except for the control treatment with only mineral fertiliser application. Grain yields were slightly higher in treatments under AWD than the CF water regime. Hence, the yield-scaled GWP was also lower in the treatments under the AWD water regime, namely 51 % in RS, 59 % in BC and 17 % in control treatments. Control treatments had the lowest GWP, but provided the highest yield. The yield-scaled GWP under these treatments was therefore lower than under the other treatments.  相似文献

For nutritional purposes, a survey of the vitamin B6 levels from a variety of commercial presentations of table olives was carried out, taking into account the three main processing types (Spanish-style, directly brined, and ripe olives). The analysis was performed by HPLC, following the official French method for vitamin B6 determination in foodstuffs. In-house validation data for two commercial table olives showed that the method precision was good (coefficient of variation <6%) and recovery was quantitative (104% on average). There was a wide range of values for vitamin B6 in table olives (0–69.3 μg/100 g edible portion). The highest mean content was found in directly brined olives (33.9 μg/100 g edible portion) followed by Spanish-style (14.4 μg/100 g) and ripe olives (4.3 μg/100 g). On average, samples of the Gordal and Carrasqueña cultivars showed the highest vitamin B6 content in the case of Spanish-style olives, but in directly brined olives as well as in ripe olives the effect of cultivar was not statistically significant (p?相似文献

Pollen protoplasts provide a sexual and haploid system for haploid production, cell fusion and mutation studies used in plant improvement. Due to the multiploidy, heterozygosity, and often self-incompatibility in tetraploid genotypes, haploid potatoes are desirable for breeding schemes via ploidy manipulations. In this study, two tetraploid varieties and two dihaploid lines of potato were used for pollen tetrad protoplast isolation and culture. The meiotic tetrad buds were first pre-treated at 5 °C for 0–12 days, then the tetrads were transferred into enzyme solutions containing different concentrations of snailase (0.5–1.5%), 0.3 M osmolites (sucrose, mannitol, glucose or sorbitol), 1.0% Cellulose, 0.5% Hemicellulase, 0.5% Pectolyase, 0.3% Sucrose, 3 mM 2-(N-Morpholino) ethane sulfonic acid, 1% polyvinyl pyrrolidone, 0.01% casein hydrolysate and K3 medium compositions. Among the four donor materials, tetraploid cv. Gannongshu No. 3 (‘GNS No.3’) showed the greatest protoplast yield (74.6 ± 2.4%). In this variety, most of the tetrad protoplasts regenerated a cell wall and continued cell divisions were observed when they were inoculated in K3 basic medium supplemented with (0.5–1.0) mg/L 2,4-D + (0.1–0.5) mg/L KT + 0.4 mg/L 6-BA +800 mg/L glutamine +100 mg/L serine. ‘GNS No.3’ also showed the greatest first division frequency (21.6 ± 1.5%) and sustained division to form multicellular structures. The study findings suggested that cultured tetrad pollen protoplasts could reverse the gametophytic developmental pattern programmed in vivo to a sporophytic pathway leading to multicellular microspore-derived colonies.  相似文献

For the first time the chemical profile, physico-chemical parameters, inhibition of carbohydrate hydrolysing enzymes associated with type 2 diabetes, and radical scavenging properties of Sambucus nigra L. (elderberry) juice treated by nanofiltration (NF) were investigated. Three commercial NF membranes with different molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) (400 and 1000 Da) and polymeric material (composite fluoro-polymer and polyethersulphone) were tested. According to HPLC analyses, most part of bioactive compounds were retained by the NF membranes producing a retentate fraction of interest for the production of functional foods. The NP030 membrane, a polyethersulphone membrane with a MWCO of 400 Da, exhibited the highest rejection towards phenolic compounds when compared with the other selected membranes. Accordingly, the produced retentate fractions exhibited the highest radical scavenging activity.  相似文献

Nitrogen fertilizer practices affect nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from agricultural soils. The “4R” nutrient stewardship framework of using N fertilizer at the right rate, right source, right placement and right time can reduce N2O emissions while maintaining or improving yield of field crops, but understanding of how the various factors affect N2O emissions from irrigated processing potato is lacking. We examined the effects of selected 4R practices on emissions, using results from two irrigated processing potato studies each conducted in 2011 and 2012 in Manitoba, Canada. Experiment 1 examined combinations of source (urea, ESN), placement (pre-plant incorporation [PPI], banding), and rate (100 and 200 kg N ha-1) on a clay loam soil. Experiment 2 examined timing and source treatment combinations (urea PPI, ESN PPI, urea split, urea split/fertigation) on a loamy fine sandy soil. For Experiment 1, use of ESN at 200 kg ha-1 did not reduce area-, yield- and applied fertilizer N- based N2O emissions compared to urea at 200 kg ha-1, irrespective of placement. Emissions from pre-plant banding ESN at 200 kg ha?1, however, were 32% lower than from PPI ESN. For Experiment 2, compared to single pre-plant urea application, fertigation simulated by in-season application of urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) gave lower area-, yield- and applied fertilizer N- based emissions. Split urea ( \( \raisebox{1ex}{$2$}\!\left/ \!\raisebox{-1ex}{$3$}\right. \) pre-plant, \( \raisebox{1ex}{$1$}\!\left/ \!\raisebox{-1ex}{$3$}\right. \) hilling) also reduced area- and yield- based N2O emissions compared to single pre-plant urea application. Emissions were generally lower at the site with loamy fine sandy soil than the site with clay loam soil. These results demonstrate that combinations of “4R” practices rather than source alone are best to achieve reductions in N2O emissions from irrigated potato production.  相似文献

Pomerelle Russet is an early maturing fresh potato variety, which produces moderately high early-season (95–110 days after planting) yields of long tubers with brown-russet skin. It is notable for its very attractive, smooth tubers and resistances to internal and external defects with a high percentage of U.S. No. 1 tubers. Fresh merit ratings for Pomerelle Russet in trials conducted in Idaho, Oregon and Washington were consistently higher than Russet Burbank and Russet Norkotah. Early harvest yields for Pomerelle Russet are generally comparable to Russet Norkotah with a higher percentage of U.S. No. 1 tubers. Compared to Russet Burbank and Russet Norkotah, Pomerelle Russet has greater resistance to Potato mop-top virus, soft rot, corky ringspot and tuber infections from late blight. It also has higher protein and vitamin C concentrations than Ranger Russet, Russet Burbank and Russet Norkotah, indicating that it can provide an enhanced level of dietary protein and vitamin C relative to these standard potato varieties. Pomerelle Russet has moderate specific gravity and good resistance to sugar ends. It also has moderately long dormancy, about 30 days shorter than Russet Burbank. Average post-harvest processing ratings for Pomerelle Russet were similar to Ranger Russet and greater than Russet Burbank. Pomerelle Russet also has maintained acceptable fry color for about 180–200 days in storage at 8.9 °C, indicating potential for processing out of mid-term storage, with improved fry color uniformity relative to industry standards. However, its primary use appears to be as a high quality, early fresh variety.  相似文献

The thermal treatment method was employed to achieve higher homogeneity of calcium ferrite (CaFe2O4) and Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanocomposites. The influences of phase transformation on physical and biological properties of calcined specimens were investigated by various experimental techniques including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), high resolution Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Heat treatment was conducted at temperatures between 723 and 923 K, so that a phase transformation occurred from cubic to orthorhombic spinel structure at 923 K. The chemical analysis of the PVA/CaFe2O4 nanocomposite was performed by energy dispersion X-ray analysis (EDXA), demonstrated the PVA/CaFe2O4 nanocomposites contained the elements of C, Ca, Fe, and O. The formed nanocomposites exhibited ferromagnetic behaviors which were confirmed by using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The calcined specimens were carried out to an antimicrobial or antifungal test.  相似文献

Present paper reports a method of preparing polymer composite electrolyte nanofiber mat using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), ammonium thiocynate (NH4SCN) salt, and aluminium oxide (Al2O3) nano particles based on electrospinning technique. Two-stage process of preparation of nanofibers, namely, preparation of nano particles filled PVA electrolyte gel solution followed by its electrospinning has been used. The so obtained nanofibers have been characterized by XRD, DSC, SEM, and Conductivity measurements. XRD patterns affirm the formation of nanocomposite while SEM pictures reveal formation of fibers on a nano scale format (300–800 nm). Fibers of the electrolytes are seen to be thermally stable. Ionic conductivity of electrolyte fiber is seen to improve in the presence of nano filler at room temperature with a maximum at 5.31×10−3 Scm−1 for 4 wt% filler concentration, which is comparable to that for corresponding dried gel electrolyte films.  相似文献

Herbage (83% Lolium perenne and 17% Trifolium repens ) was harvested 15,28 and 42 d after second cut, and ensiled in 1.5 liter preserving jars either directly, at 20% dry matter (DM), or wilted (30 and 45% DM). Each variant was ensiled with and without a commercial preparation of cell wall degrading enzymes and stored for 90 d at 30°C. Samples were then incubated in nylon bags in the rumens of three cannulated cows for 3, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 288 h to study the in sacco degradation of organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), and (hemi) cellulose.
Addition of cell wall degrading enzymes significantly decreased cell wall content. The magnitude Of the decrease was influenced by stage of maturity and DM percentage. Maturity increased the DM content as well as decreasing the effect of enzymes on cell wall components. Lactic acid content increased and the pH value and ammonia ( P < 0.05) decreased, indicating a greater extent of fermentation in the enzyme-treated silages. Enzyme treatment had no effect on the content of digestible OM estimated by in vitro incubations.
The undegradable fractions of OM, CP and cell wall components were not significantly changed by the addition of enzymes. The results suggest that the cell wall degrading enzymes affected the insoluble, rumen-degradable fractions, thereby increasing the instantly degradable fractions. Consequently, the calculated effective degradation of OM and CP in the enzyme-treated silages was significantly ( P < 0.05) higher than in the untreated silages.  相似文献

以‘台农1号’芒果为试材,研究采前分别用1、50和100 mg/L苯并噻重氮(BTH)喷施处理对芒果果实抗病性诱导效果的影响。结果表明,与对照果实相比,100 mg/L BTH处理果实采收时的病果率、采后未接种果实的病情指数和接种果实的病斑直径显著降低,降低幅度分别为52.60%、54.30%和7.06%;并且在贮藏过程中,BTH处理果实中的苯丙氨酸解氨酶(PAL)、过氧化物酶(POD)和β-1,3-葡聚糖酶(GLU)的活性明显高于对照;另外,在贮藏前期(0~6 d),BTH处理能够抑制芒果过氧化氢酶(CAT)的活性,提高芒果过氧化氢(H2O2)的含量。  相似文献
