Short hemp fibers, acquired as a waste from textile industry, were used as an efficient biosorbent for removal of zinc ions from polluted water. In order to obtain the material with better sorption properties, short hemp fibers were subjected to oxidative and alkali treatment. The following factors that may influence the sorption properties of short hemp fibers were examined: fiber structure and morphology were characterized by iodine sorption, water retention and scanning electron microscopy, while specific surface area was determined by BET method. Additionally, the amount of carboxyl groups was determined by calcium-acetate method, and the point of zero charge of the short hemp fibers samples was determined by the solid addition method. Biosorption of zinc ions was evaluated through the total uptake capacity, equilibrium and kinetic data. Obtained data were analyzed by nonlinear Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms, as well as pseudo-first and pseudo-second order kinetic models, and the best fitting model was chosen using Akaike information criterion. Chemical modification, used in this work, leads to structural and morphological changes of short hemp fibers, and improvement of their sorption properties. It was found that sorption properties of short hemp fibers are predominantly influenced by surface acidity and the amount of functional groups, while fiber structure and specific surface area have a secondary role in the biosorption of zinc ions. Akakike information criterion values showed that biosorption of zinc ions on all tested hemp fiber samples obey the pseudo-second order adsorption kinetics, while experimental isotherm data fit better with Langmuir model. Biosorption of zinc ions on the hemp fibers is a predominantly chemical process, which mainly follows the mechanism of ion exchange on acidic functional groups, and occurs through the fast surface adsorption, intraparticle diffusion and final equilibrium stage.  相似文献

Nylon 4/6 copolymer has desirable properties, such as high affinity to water and good tensile strength. These properties originate from the characteristics of nylon 4 and nylon 6. Zeolite is a good adsorptive material that has many pores in its structure and the ability to capture metallic ions. As a multifunctional additive, silver-ion-loaded zeolite nanoparticles were used to increase the moisture regain and impart antimicrobial properties to the nylon 4/6 copolymer. A nylon 4/6 nanofiber web was prepared by electrospinning from a polymer solution containing silver zeolite nanoparticles. The moisture regain of the nylon 4/6 nanofiber web increased with increasing amount of silver zeolite added. The web showed excellent antimicrobial activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus. Overall, the nylon 4/6 nanofiber web could be a good material for wound healing dressings and high functional medical filters.  相似文献

In this study, the preparation method and characteristics of silver (Ag) nanoparticle (NP) loaded polyamide 6 (PA6) nanocomposite and its antimicrobial activity against Klebsiella pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus were investigated. The melt intercalation method was used to prepare a series of PA 6 nanocomposite fibers containing, 0; 1; 3; 5 % (wt.) Ag. PA6/Ag nanocomposite fibers exhibit increased antimicrobial efficiency with the increase of nanoparticle contents. On the other hand, thermal characterization tests show that the increased concentration of Ag nanoparticles reduces the mechanical properties due to their partial agglomeration leading to flaw generation. The crystallinity of the fibers was found to decrease about 10 % with increase of Ag to 5 %. This was attributed to faster cooling rate experienced in the presence of high thermal conductivity Ag particles.  相似文献

GSP/gelatin composite nanofiber membranes containing silver nanoparticles were successfully fabricated as a novel biomaterial by electrospinning. The silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized with the grape seed polyphenols (GSP) as reducing agent in aqueous solution of gelatin, and then the GSP/gelatin/AgNPs mixed solution was electrospun into nanofibers at 55 °C. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed that the composite fibers were uniform and the average fiber diameter ranged between 150 nm and 230 nm with an increase in applied potentials from 14 kV to 22 kV. And the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that silver nanoparticles distributed individually in the fibers with the average particle size of about 11 nm. Furthermore, the ultraviolet visible spectrophotometer (UV-vis spectroscopy) test demonstrated that all of Ag+ converted to Ag0 when the concentration of gelatin was 24 wt% and the mass ratio of GSP to AgNO3 was about 5:2. The antibacterial activities of the fiber membranes against E.coli and S.aureus were measured via a shake flank test and demonstrated good performance after the importation of silver nanopaticles. Cytotoxicity testing also revealed that fiber membranes contained silver nanoparticles had no cyto-toxic. All the results indicated that the GSP was effective for the formation and stabilization of silver nanoparticles in composite nanofibers mats which had the potential for applications in antimicrobial tissue engineering and wound dressing.  相似文献

Two antimicrobial alkaloids, palmatine and jatrorrhizine, were isolated from tubers of traditional Chinese medicinal plant Tinospora capillipes using activity-guided isolation method and chromatography. Their antimicrobial activity was determined in vitro. The results showed that palmatine and jatrorrhizine had inhibitory activity against plant pathogens Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum, Mycosphaerella sentina, Pestalotia mangiferae, Cercospora kaki, Gymnosporangium haraeanum, Rhizoctonia solani and Colletotrichum graminicola, with the EC50 values of 0.0348-0.8356 g L−1 and 0.0240-0.8649 g L−1, respectively. Palmatine and jatrorrhizine also exhibited inhibition against animal pathogens Bacillus cereus, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus subtilis, Staphyloccocus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidi, Micrococcus lysodeikticus, Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella typhi and Escherichia coli, with the MIC values of 0.1-0.8 g L−1 and 0.1-0.6 g L−1, respectively. These results suggested that palmatine and jatrorrhizine showed relatively broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against plant and animal pathogens.  相似文献

Some secondary metabolites of plants function as antimicrobial products against phytopathogens and constitute an increasingly important class of pesticides. In the present study, the essential oil of Asarum heterotropoides var. mandshuricum was analyzed by GC/MS and its antimicrobial activity was evaluated against five phytopathogenic fungi. Major components of the oil were methyleugenol (59.42%), eucarvone (24.10%), 5-allyl-1,2,3-trimethoxybenzene (5.72%), and 3,7,7-trimethylbicyclo(4.1.0)hept-3-ene (4.93%). The essential oil and the most abundant component, methyleugenol, were separately assayed for inhibition of 5 pathogens: Alternaria humicola, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Rhizoctonia solani, Phytophthora cactorum and Fusarium solani. Both the oil and methyleugenol strongly inhibited the growth of the test pathogens (IC50 values <0.42 μg ml−1) except F. solani, with the best activity against P. cactorum (IC50 values = 0.073 and 0.052 μg ml−1, respectively). It is concluded that the essential oil of A. heterotropoides var. mandshuricum has a broad antiphytopathogenic spectrum, and that methyleugenol is largely responsible for the bioactivity of the oil. The mode of action of methyleugenol against P. cactorum is discussed based on changes in the mycelial ultrastructure.  相似文献

In order to prepare antimicrobial regenerated cellulose fibers from blended spinning solutions, three non-water soluble polymeric guanidine derivatives, polyhexamethylene guanidine dodecyl benzene sulfonate (PHGDBS), polyhexamethylene guanidine dodecyl sulfate (PHGDSA), and polyhexamethylene guanidine laurylsulfonate (PHGLSO) were synthesized. And the chemical structure of these agents was verified by element analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR). The antimicrobial activity of the three agents as well as cellulose films containing PHGDBS was also studied. The results showed that the compounds we prepared had strong properties against both bacterial and fungus, including Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli), Candida albicans, and Aspergillus niger. Moreover, it was found that three antimicrobial agents were insoluble in water but they can dissolve in solvents of cellulose such as 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([BMIM]Cl) and N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide monohydrate (NMMO·H2O). Meanwhile, it was also proved that [BMIM]Cl had little effect on the antimicrobial properties of these agents. The cellulose films containing only 1.0 wt% PHGDBS showed 99.94 % and 96.95 % bacterial reduction rates for S. aureus and E. coli, respectively. Moreover, still over 91 % of bacterial reduction was maintained after 15 laundering cycles. It suggests that the three agents will be suitable to prepare antimicrobial regenerated cellulose fibers or films.  相似文献

External otitis is a diffuse inflammation around the external auditory canal and auricle, which is often occurred by microbial infection. This disease is generally treated using antibiotics, but the frequent occurrence of antibiotic resistance requires the development of new antibiotic agents. In this context, unexplored bioactive natural candidates could be a chance for the production of targeted drugs provided with antimicrobial activity. In this paper, microbial pathogens were isolated from patients with external otitis using ear swabs for over one year, and the antimicrobial activity of the two methanol extracts from selected marine (Dunaliella salina) and freshwater (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) microalgae was tested on the isolated pathogens. Totally, 114 bacterial and 11 fungal strains were isolated, of which Staphylococcus spp. (28.8%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) (24.8%) were the major pathogens. Only three Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) strains and 11 coagulase-negative Staphylococci showed resistance to methicillin. The two algal extracts showed interesting antimicrobial properties, which mostly inhibited the growth of isolated S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella spp. with MICs range of 1.4 × 109 to 2.2 × 1010 cells/mL. These results suggest that the two algae have potential as resources for the development of antimicrobial agents.  相似文献

Cellulose fabrics (viscose and cotton) were treated with atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in air. After DBD treatment, samples were characterized and volume electrical resistance was measured under different relative humidity conditions (φ=40-55 %). Results have shown that DBD treatment increases wettability and polar surface functional groups content, which consequently causes a decrease of volume electrical resistivity of cellulose fabrics in measured relative humidity range (φ=40-55 %). Metal ions (silver, copper, and zinc) were incorporated in untreated and plasma treated samples through sorption from aqueous solutions and incorporation of metal ions into plasma treated cellulose samples decreased electrical resistivity even further. Resistivity of cotton and viscose fabrics with incorporated metal ions followed the order Zn2+ > Cu2+ > Ag+. The most pronounced decrease, for entire order of a magnitude, was obtained by modification of cotton fabric with DBD and silver ions, where value of resistivity dropped from GΩ to a several dozens of MΩ.  相似文献

This study is focused on investigating the feasibility of using silver(I) ions loaded poly(acrylonitrile)-grafted silk fibers as antibacterial dressing material. The optimum grafting conditions for ceric ammonium nitrate induced graft-copolymerization of acrylonitrile onto silk fibers were found to include initiator concentration of 35 mM, catalyst HNO3 concentration of 0.40 M and initiation time of 10 min. The poly(acrylonitrile)-grafted silk fibers were loaded with silver(I) ions by equilibration method. The resulting fibers were investigated for their biocidal action against E. coli, by using zone inhibition and colonies counting method.  相似文献

This paper reports on an antimicrobial finishing for polyamide with high washfastness. As antimicrobial agent modified silica sols containing silver components are used as coating agent and are applied to the polyamide fabric by using a semi-industrial procedure. The antimicrobial properties of coated polyamide fabrics are determined against the bacteria E. coli. Significant antimicrobial effects are observed even after 40 washing cycles. The amount of silver on the polyamide fabrics was measured by using ICP-OES. Besides this, samples are investigated by means of UV/Vis-spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Furthermore textile properties as, e.g., air permeability and mechanical properties were measured. Due to high antimicrobial effect and the strong washfastness of this finishing, this reported method could be of high interest for industrial production processes.  相似文献

Fish pathogens causing disease outbreaks represent a major threat to aquaculture industry and food security. The aim of the presented study is to develop safe and effective bioactive agents against two bacterial isolates: Aeromonas hydrophila and Pseudomonas fluorescens. We employed a broth microdilution method to investigate the antibacterial effect of biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs); rutin, a natural flavonoid extracted from Ruta graveneoles; and heliomycin, a secondary metabolite produced by marine actinomycetes AB5, as monotherapeutic agents. Moreover, AgNPs in combination with rutin (AgNP + R) and heliomycin (AgNPs + H) were examined for their synergistic effect. The cytotoxic effect of individual bioactive compounds and in combination with AgNPs was investigated on epithelioma papulosum cyprini (EPC) fish cell lines. Individual treatment of AgNPs, rutin, and heliomycin exhibited a dose-dependent antimicrobial activity against A. hydrophila and P. fluorescens. Rutin minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) showed the lowest cytotoxicity when tested on EPC cell lines, while heliomycin MIC was highly cytotoxic. Combined subtherapeutic doses of AgNPs + R and AgNPs + H displayed additive and synergistic effects against A. hydrophila and P. fluorescens, respectively, with improved results and relative safety profile. The study findings demonstrate that a combination of AgNPs and natural bioactive compounds may represent novel therapeutics fighting fish pathogens potentially affecting the fish farming industry.  相似文献

In this report, silk fibroin (SF) mats coated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were manufactured as a prototypic wound dressing and evaluated for antimicrobial properties. SF was extracted from cocoons of Thai silkworms Bombyx mori (variant Nangnoi Si Sa Ket) and fabricated into nonwoven mats by electrospinning. In a one-step synthesis method, colloidal AgNPs were prepared from silver nitrate by gamma irradiation and inspected by transmission electron microscopy. Using the in vitro disc diffusion and growth-inhibition assays, AgNP-coated SF mats effectively inhibited the growth of Staphyllococus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa when the coating solution containing colloidal AgNPs was 4 mM, or equivalent to 50.4 ng/cm2 of adsorbed AgNPs. Based on these results, the AgNP-coated SF mats can potentially be used as antimicrobial wound dressings.  相似文献

The present investigation describes the synthesis and characterization of novel biodegradable nanoparticles based on chitosan for biomedical applications. The presence of primary amine groups in repeating units of chitosan grants it several properties like antibacterial activity, antitumor activity and so on. Chitosan forms nanoparticles spontaneously on the addition of polyanion tripolyphosphate which has greater antimicrobial activity than parent chitosan. In the present study, chitosan nanoparticles (ChNP) were prepared by the ionic gelation method. The physiochemical characteristics of nanoparticles were analyzed using XRD, SEM, FTIR. The antibacterial activity of chitosan nanoparticles against medical pathogens Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was evaluated by calculation of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and compared with chitosan and chitin activity. The mode of action and factors affecting antibacterial activity were also analyzed. ChNP compounds exhibited superior antimicrobial activity against all microorganisms in comparison with chitosan and chitin. The antibiofilm activity was studied using crystal violet assay and growth on congo red agar. The study is thus a good demonstration of the applicability of chitosan nanoparticles as an effective antimicrobial agent with antibiofilm activity as well.  相似文献

Madder is a natural colorant which is commonly applied with metal salts as a mordant to improve its affinity to fibers and color fastness. Madder produces an insoluble complex or lake in the presence of metal ions on mordanted fabric. In this study, wool fabric was pretreated with AgNPs (silver nanoparticles) as a mordant, then dyed with madder. The wool fabric samples were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and their colorimetric characteristics were evaluated. The formation of spherical silver nanoparticle was confirmed using UV-Visible spectroscopy, SEM images, and elemental analysis. The average size of synthesized silver nanoparticles on the surface of wool fibers is around 73 nm. The dyed wool samples were pretreated with different concentration of Ag+ ions or AgNPs, which showed higher color strength value compared to untreated dyed wool fabric. This pretreatment also presented good antibacterial activity.  相似文献

This study investigated the incorporation of nanoscale germanium (Ge) and silicon dioxide (SiO2) particles into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanofibers with the aim of developing nanostructures with far-infrared radiation effects and antimicrobial properties for biomedical applications. Composite fibers containing Ge and SiO2 were fabricated at various concentrations of Ge and/or SiO2 using electrospinning and layered on polypropylene nonwoven. The morphological properties of the nanocomposite fibers were characterized using a field-emission scanning electron microscope and a transmission electron microscope. The far-infrared emissivity and emissive power of the nanocomposite fibers were examined in the wavelength range of 5-20 μm at 37 °C. The antibacterial properties were quantitatively assessed by measuring the bacterial reductions of Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. Multi-component composite fibers electrospun from 11 wt% PVA solutions containing 0.5 wt% Ge and 1 wt% SiO2 nanoparticles exhibited a far-infrared emissivity of 0.891 and an emissive power of 3.44·102 W m?2 with a web area density of 5.55 g m?2. The same system exhibited a 99.9 % bacterial reduction against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and showed a 34.8 % reduction of Klebsiella pneumoniae. These results demonstrate that PVA nanofibrous membranes containing Ge and SiO2 have potential in medical and healthcare applications such as wound healing dressings, skin care masks, and medical textile products.  相似文献

Gelatin is one of the most promising biomaterials due to its excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability. In order to improve the antimicrobial activity of gelatin, gelatin nanofibers containing silver nanoparticles were prepared by electrospinning gelatin/AgNO3/formic acid system, followed by UV irradiation. They were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. It was observed that the silver nanoparticles, which presented quasi-sphere shaped and 9–20 nm average diameters, were generated on the surface of the gelatin nanofibers. The size of the silver particles can be adjusted by changing the content of AgNO3. With increasing the amount of AgNO3, the average diameters of fibers decreased. The gelatin-Ag nanocomposites were found effective against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. From these results, it is expected that the electrospun antimicrobial gelatin nanofiber mat can be used as an excellent wound dressing.  相似文献

This study is an attempt to investigate the feasibility of alkali pre-treatment to activate surface hydroxyl groups of cellulose fibers in order to enhance the deposition efficiency of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) onto cotton fabrics. Cotton samples were pre-treated with various alkali solutions containing different earth metal hydroxides (LiOH, NaOH, and KOH). The as-prepared samples were then treated with aqueous silver nitrate followed by reduction treatment with aqueous ascorbic acid, which caused in situ formation of AgNPs on fiber surfaces. The surface structure of the fabrics was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and colorimetric data. The amount of silver was measured by using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES). Antimicrobial activity was measured against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Escherichia coli bacteria. It was established that alkali pre-treatment had a substantial effect on the formation and adsorption of AgNPs on the fibers. Alkali pre-treated samples were homogeneously coated by AgNPs with high surface coverage. Alkali type had significant effect not only on the amount of AgNPs on the surface but also on its size. High antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative strains was also demonstrated, even after 10 cycles washing.  相似文献

Nanocomposite fibers of polyamide 6 (PA6) and hydroxyapatite (HA) were prepared and doped with silver to investigate antibacterial activities due to good potential for textile modification. Nano-sized HA could be synthesized using agarose and ethanol as thickener and washing medium, respectively. The PA6/HA nanocomposite fibers could be doped with silver by dipping the fibers having HA in aqueous AgNO3 solution containing 300 ppm of Ag ion for 1 min utilizing HA as a carrier to load silver through ion-exchange mechanism. It was found that silver was successfully doped to PA6/HA nanocomposite fibers from the EDS spectra. The nanocomposite fibers containing 3.3 wt% of HA after silver doping demonstrated such excellent antibacterial activities against K. pneumonia and E. coli that they are expected to serve as functional antibacterial materials in various application fields.  相似文献
