Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) plants were grown hydroponically in a greenhouse for 14 d under Fe-deficient conditions before treatment for 3 h with excess Mn (25 µM) and equimolar amounts of plant-borne (phytosiderophores, PS) or synthetic (ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, EDTA) metal chelators. The xylem sap was collected for 3 h and analyzed for PS, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, and citrate concentrations. Excess Mn in the feeding medium decreased the concentrations of PS, Fe, Zn, and Cu in the xylem sap. Addition of 25 µM Mn and an equimolar amount of PS to the feeding medium increased the concentrations of PS, Fe, and Cu in the xylem sap, while EDTA decreased the concentrations of PS and the above nutrients. Excess Mn in the feeding medium increased the Mn concentration in the xylem sap and this increase was more pronounced with the addition of PS to the feeding medium, while EDTA had a depressing effect. These findings suggested that the roots of Fe-deficient barley plants can enhance the absorption and/or translocation of both Mn2+ and a PS-Mn complex. Addition of excess Mn to the feeding medium, irrespective of chelators, did not affect the xylem citrate concentration, indicating that citrate may not contribute to the translocation of metal micronutrients. In the xylem sap of Fe-deficient barley plants, the concentrations of metal micronutrients were positively correlated with the concentrations of PSG  相似文献

The release of phytosiderophore (PS) from roots of Fe-deficient graminaceous plants follows a distinct diurnal rhythm with maximum release rates occurring usually 3 to 4 hours after the onset of light. However, it remains to be determined whether absorption of the PS-Fe3+ complex shows a diurnal rhythmicity similar to that of PS release, Barley plants grown with or without 10 µM FeEDTA for 7 days were fed with ferreted PS (10 µM labelled with 59Fe) at 4-h intervals to study the diurnal variations in the absorption and transloca tion of 59Fe, The absorption of 59Fe, irrespective of the Fe nutritional status of the plants, was higher during the day and lower during the night but did not show any peak throughout the day-night cycle. On the other hand, the translocation of 59Fe into shoots of Fe-deficient plants was lower than that of Fe-sufficient plants, while the Fe nutritional status of the plants did not affect the absorption of 59Fe by roots, The formation of root apoplastic 59Fe was lower during the day and higher during the night, regardless of the Fe nutritional status of plants. Our results showed that the absorption of the PS-Fe3+ complex by roots did not follow the PS release pattern.  相似文献

Abstract

Hydroponically grown barley plants (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Minorimugi) under iron-deficient (–Fe) and high phosphorus (P) conditions (500 µmol L?1) showed Fe chlorosis and lower growth compared with plants grown in –Fe and low P conditions (50, 5 and 0.5 µmol L?1). To understand the physiological role of P in regulating the growth of plants in –Fe medium, we carried out an Fe feeding experiment using four P levels (500, 50, 5 and 0.5 µmol L?1) and phytosiderophores (PS), mugineic acid. Our results suggest that plants grown in a high P medium had higher absorption activity of 59Fe compared with plants grown in low P media, irrespective of the presence or absence of added PS. Translocation of 59Fe from roots to shoots was not affected by the P level. The relative translocation rate of 59Fe increased with decreasing levels of P in the medium. In general, the addition of PS enhanced the absorption of 59Fe and its translocation. Taken together these results suggest that the lower relative translocation rate of Fe in high P plants may be induced by the physiological inactivation of Fe in the roots, and the higher absorption activity of Fe in high P conditions possibly results from the response of barley plants to Fe deficiency.  相似文献

In order to clarify the mechanism by which calcium (Ca) alleviates manganese (Mn) phytotoxicity, barley plants were grown under the following conditions: (1) nutrient solution alone (control), (2) nutrient solution + 25 μM Mn (Mn-toxic), and (3) nutrient solution + 25 μ M Mn + 20 mM Ca (Ca-alleviated). Feeding experiments using 54Mn and 59Fe (iron) with 2.0 or 20 mM Ca to the plant roots were also conducted. The absorption and translocation of 54Mn in the control plants were lowered by the high-Ca (20 mM) feeding condition. The translocation of 54Mn to shoots of Mn-toxic or Ca-alleviated plants was also lowered by the high-Ca feeding condition, but 54Mn absorption by roots of the plants was unaffected. The absorption and translocation of 59Fe in the plants was unaffected by the high-Ca feeding condition. Calcium alleviation of Mn phytotoxicity in barley may be induced mainly by the inhibition of Mn translocation to shoots.  相似文献

A greenhouse pot experiment was conducted with peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L., Fabceae) to evaluate iron compound fertilizers for improving within-plant iron content and correcting chlorosis caused by iron deficiency. Peanuts were planted in containers with calcareous soil fertilized with three different granular iron nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) fertilizers (ferrous sulphate (FeSO4)–NPK, Fe–ethylendiamine di (o-hydroxyphenylacetic) (EDDHA)–NPK and Fe–citrate–NPK). Iron nutrition, plant biomass, seed yield and quality of peanuts were significantly affected by the application of Fe–citrate–NPK and Fe–EDDHA–NPK to the soil. Iron concentrations in tissues were significantly greater for plants grown with Fe–citrate–NPK and Fe–EDDHA–NPK. The active iron concentration in the youngest leaves of peanuts was linearly related to the leaf chlorophyll (via soil and plant analyzer development measurements) recorded 50 and 80 days after planting. However, no significant differences between Fe–citrate–NPK and Fe–EDDHA–NPK were observed. Despite the large amount of total iron bound and dry matter, FeSO4–NPK was less effective than Fe–citrate–NPK and Fe–EDDHA–NPK to improve iron uptake. The results showed that application of Fe–citrate–NPK was as effective as application of Fe–EDDHA–NPK in remediating leaf iron chlorosis in peanut pot-grown in calcareous soil. The study suggested that Fe–citrate–NPK should be considered as a potential tool for correcting peanut iron deficiency in calcareous soil.  相似文献

Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum), cucumber (Cucumis sativus), pepper (Capsicum annuum), and lettuce (Lactuca sativa) were grown on rockwool or perlite substrate with nutrient solution. Fe was administered as the Fe complex of the chelator ethylenediamine di-(o-hydroxyphenylacetic acid) (EDDHA) or Fe(NH4)2(SO4)2 in the nutrient solution or as inorganic iron in the substrate. Roots and leaves of plants grown on Fe-EDDHA contained EDDHA in quantities up to 0.27 × the amount of Fe, which is interpreted as an indication of the contribution of passive chelate absorption to Fe uptake. Fruits of tomato and pepper, and leaves of lettuce contained only traces of EDDHA. Breakdown of the chelator in leaves of pepper and tomato is estimated to have been between 0.5 and 2% per day. In tomato fruits, lycopene content was lowered in plants growing on Fe-EDDHA. Cucumber growing on Fe-EDDHA suffered from serious infection by the mildew Sphaerotheca fusca; the plants growing on an inorganic source of iron were resistant. These results exemplify physiological effects of EDDHA other than those directly associated with iron nutrition.  相似文献

Abstract

A research was carried out to evaluate the leaves' ability to utilize Fe supplied as a complex with water‐extractable humic substances (WEHS) and the long‐distance transport of 59Fe applied to sections of fully expanded leaves of intact sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) plants. Plants were grown in a nutrient solution containing 10 µM Fe(III)‐EDDHA (Fe‐sufficient plants), with the addition of 10 mM NaHCO3 to induce iron chlorosis (Fe‐deficient plants). Fe(III)‐WEHS could be reduced by sunflower leaf discs at levels comparable to those observed using Fe(III)‐EDTA, regardless of the Fe status. On the other hand, 59Fe uptake rate by leaf discs of green and chlorotic plants was significantly lower in Fe‐WEHS‐treated plants, possibly suggesting the effect of light on photochemical reduction of Fe‐EDTA. In the experiments with intact plants, 59Fe‐labeled Fe‐WEHS or Fe‐EDTA were applied onto a section of fully expanded leaves. Irrespective of Fe nutritional status, 59Fe uptake was significantly higher when the treatment was carried out with Fe‐EDTA. A significant difference was found in the amount of 59Fe translocated from treated leaf area between green and chlorotic plants. However, irrespective of the Fe nutritional status, no significant difference was observed in the absolute amount of 59Fe translocated to other plant parts when the micronutrient was supplied either as Fe‐EDTA or Fe‐WEHS. Results show that the utilization of Fe complexed to WEHS by sunflower leaves involves an Fe(III) reduction step in the apoplast prior to its uptake by the symplast of leaf cells and that Fe taken up from the Fe‐WEHS complexes can be translocated from fully expanded leaves towards the roots and other parts of the shoot.  相似文献

A pot experiment was conducted to determine the utilization of iron (Fe) by lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. cv. Australian gelber). Iron was applied as 59Fe in inorganic and chelated form, particularly biodegradable chelate, 59Fe‐EDDS. Two stereoisomeric forms of ethylenediaminedisuccinate: [S,S]‐EDDS and a mixture of EDDS containing 25% [S,S]‐EDDS, 25% [R,R]‐EDDS, and 50% [S/R]/[R/S]‐EDDS, ethylenediaminetetraaceticacid (EDTA) and ethylenediimino bis(2‐hydroxyphenyl)acetic acid (EDDHA) were used as ligands. Lettuce was grown in unlimed and limed quartz sand with nitrate as the sole source of nitrogen. Liming decreased lettuce yields but had no effect on Fe concentrations, indicating that Fe concentrations were a poor indicator of Fe bioavailability within the plant. In unlimed sand, utilization of 59Fe from all 59Fe‐chelates was on the same level (2.8%–3.6%). In limed sand, only 59Fe‐EDDHA maintained the 59Fe utilization on a level (3%) comparable to that in unlimed sand. Although the utilization of 59Fe from the other chelates decreased to 0.6%–1.1% after liming, Fe concentrations were not affected due to the increased uptake of indigenous Fe. The most biodegradable form of EDDS, namely 59Fe‐EDDS(S,S), provided 59Fe for lettuce as efficiently as the mixture of 59Fe‐EDDS stereoisomers and the 59Fe‐EDTA. Utilization of 59Fe in inorganic form was 0.5% and 0.03% in unlimed and limed sand, respectively. This study shows that biodegradable ligands are able to serve as chelators to sustain Fe availability in calcareous environments. They may be of use especially in drip irrigation, where ligand accumulations may pose a threat to groundwater quality.  相似文献

Summary Hydroxamate siderophores (HS) are microbially produced, ferric-specific chelates, known to occur in soil, and to be capable of providing iron to higher plants. This study examined the potential for HS to influence the diffusion of both iron and phosphorus to plant roots in soil.The HS desferrioxamine-B (DFOB) and desferriferrichrome (ferrichrome) were compared with the synthetic chelates ethylenediamine [di(o-hydroxyphenylacetic)acid] (EDDHA) and ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid (EDTA), and citrate, oxalate, and distilled water in their ability to increase diffusion of iron using a simulated root technique. Chelate solutions were pumped through porous fiber bundles imbedded in soil previously labeled with55Fe. In a sandy loam of pH 7.5,55Fe diffusion caused by 10–4 M DFOB was twice that of water, but similar to that caused by 10–4 M EDDHA. However, 10–3 M EDDHA resulted in greater diffusion than 10-3 M DFOB. The diffusions resulting from equimolar quantities of citrate, oxalate, and EDTA were similar to that with distilled water. In a clay soil of pH 5.2 previously labeled with55Fe and32 P, the response in55Fe diffusion to chelate treatments was: 10–4 M EDDHA > 10–4 M ferrichrome > 10–3 M DFOB > 10–4 M DFOB > water. Both ferrichrome and EDDHA caused2 P diffusion to increase substantially over that of distilled water. These results suggest that hydroxamate siderophores present in the rhizosphere could effectively increase the level of soluble iron for root uptake and possibly increase phosphorus uptake by solubilization of phosphorus from iron phosphates at acid pH.  相似文献

Iron (Fe) deficiency is a serious agricultural problem, especially in calcareous soils, which are distributed worldwide. Poplar trees are an important biomass plant, and overcoming Fe deficiency in poplars will increase biomass productivity worldwide. The poplar Fe-deficiency response and the genes involved in poplar Fe homeostasis remain largely unknown. To identify these genes and processes, we cultivated poplar plants under Fe-deficient conditions, both in calcareous soil and hydroponically, and analyzed their growth rates, leaf Soil and Plant Analyzer Development (SPAD) values, and metal concentrations. The data clearly showed that poplars have notable growth defects in both calcareous soil and a Fe-deficient hydroponic culture. They exhibited serious chlorosis of young leaves after 3 weeks of Fe-deficient hydroponic culture. The Fe concentrations in old leaves with high SPAD values were markedly lower in Fe-deficient poplars, suggesting that poplars may have good translocation capability from old to new leaves. The Zn concentration in new leaves increased in Fe-deficient poplars. The pH of the hydroponic solution decreased in the Fe-deficient culture compared to the Fe-sufficient culture. This finding shows that poplars may be able to adjust the pH of a culture solution to better take up Fe. We also analyzed the expression of Fe homeostasis-related genes in the roots and leaves of Fe-sufficient and Fe-deficient poplars. Our results demonstrate that PtIRT1, PtNAS2, PtFRO2, PtFRO5, and PtFIT were induced in Fe-deficient roots. PtYSL2 and PtNAS4 were induced in Fe-deficient leaves. PtYSL3 was induced in both Fe-deficient leaves and roots. These genes may be involved in the Fe uptake and/or translocation mechanisms in poplars under Fe-deficient conditions. Our results will increase a better understanding of the Fe-deficiency response of poplars and hence improve the breeding of Fe-deficiency-tolerant poplars for improved biomass production, the greening of high pH soils, and combatting global warming.  相似文献

本文在人工气候室中,用营养液培养方法,并结合同位素示踪技术研究了铁的供应状况,两种形态氮素(NO^-3-N和NH^+4-N)及叶处遮光对菜豆体内铁再利用效率的影响,并对其有关机理进行了深入的研究。结果表明,铁的缺乏有利于累积在根和初生叶中的铁身新生组织中转移,铁的再利用效率明显提高。无论有缺铁还供铁条件下,NH^+4-N的供应使得菜豆新叶中活性铁含量、新叶叶绿素含量及体内铁的再利用效率都明显高于N  相似文献

Dicotyledons cope with ion (Fe) shortage by releasing low-molecular-weight organic compounds into the rhizosphere to mobilize Fe through reduction and complexation mechanisms. The effects induced by these root exudates on soil mineralogy and the connections between Fe mobilization and mineral weathering processes have not been completely clarified. In a batch experiment, we tested two different kinds of organic compounds commonly exuded by Fe-deficient plants, i.e., three organic acids (citrate, malate, and oxalate) and three flavonoids (rutin, quercetin, and genistein), alone or in combination, for their ability to mobilize Fe from a calcareous soil and modify its mineralogy. The effect of root exudates on soil mineralogy was assessed in vivo by cultivating Fe-deficient and Fe-sufficient cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L.) in a RHIZOtest device. Mineralogical analyses were performed by X-ray powder diffraction. The batch experiment showed that citrate and, particularly, rutin (alone or combined with organic acids or genistein) promoted Fe mobilization from the soil. The combinations of rutin and organic acids modified the soil mineralogy by dissolving the amorphous fractions and promoting the formation of illite. These mineralogical alterations were significantly correlated with the amount of Fe mobilized from the soil. The RHIZOtest experiment revealed a drastic dissolution of amorphous components in the rhizosphere soil of Fe-deficient plants, possibly caused by the intense release of phenolics, amino acids, and organic acids, but without any formation of illite. Both batch and RHIZOtest experiments proved that exudates released by cucumber under Fe deficiency concurred to the rapid modification (on a day-scale) of the mineralogy of a calcareous soil.  相似文献

Onion (Allium sativum) plants grown without iron (Fe) in sterile nutrient solutions readily developed chlorosis symptoms. Iron deficiency in the sterile‐grown plants stimulated the rates of root extracellular reduction of Fe3+, copper (Cu2+), manganese (Mn4+), and other artificial electron acceptors. While rapid reduction occurred with the synthetic chelate Fe3+HEDTA, no short‐term reduction occurred with the fungal siderophore Fe3+ferrioxamine B (FeFOB). In addition to the increased rate of extracellular electron transfer at the root surfaces, the Fe‐deficient plants showed greater rates of Fe uptake and translocation than the onion plants grown with Fe. The rates of uptake and translocation of Fe were sharply higher for the Fe‐deficient plants supplied with FeHEDTA than for similar plants supplied with FeFOB. Inhibition by BPDS of the Fe uptake by the Fe‐deficient onion plants further supported the importance of Fe3+ chelate reduction for the uptake of Fe into the roots. Rates of Fe uptake and translocation by Fe‐deficient onion plants supplied with 55FeFOB were identical to the rates of uptake of ferrated [14C]‐FOD; a result that gives evidence of the uptake and translocation of the intact ferrated siderophore, presumably by a mechanism not involving prior extracellular Fe3+ reduction. Differences in the rates of transport of other micronutrients into the roots of the Fe‐deficient onion plants were evident by the significantly higher Zn and Mn levels in the shoots of the Fe‐deficient onion.  相似文献

Abstract

Iron‐inefficient TAM 0–312 and Fe‐efficient Coker 227 oats (Strategy II plants) differ in their release of phytosiderophore in response to iron‐deficiency stress—the Fe‐efficient Coker 227 releases a phytosiderophore whereas the Fe‐inefficient TAM 0–312 does not. The phytosiderophore released by Coker 227 oats in response to Fe‐deficiency stress does not appear to transport Fe into the plant as Fe phytosiderophore. When the Fe‐inefficient TAM 0–312 and Fe‐efficient Coker 227 oats were subjected to Fe supplied as Fe2+(BPDS)3, Fe3+HEDTA, as Fe3+EDDHA, Coker 227 utilized the Fe more efficiently than TAM 0–312 in every case. Both cultivars reduced Fe3+ as FeCl3 to form Fe2+(BPOS)3 and responded better to this form of Fe than Fe supplied as the ferric chelate. Reduction of Fe3+ at the root appears to be a factor that facilitates iron uptake by Coker 227 oats and the release of a phytosiderophore appears to make more Fe available at the root that can be reduced and transported to plant tops.  相似文献

The most widely used Iron (Fe) fertilizer in calcareous soils is the synthetic chelate Fe(o,o‐EDDHA). However, humic substances are occasionally combined with Fe chelates in drip irrigation systems in order to lower costs. We investigated the effect of various mixtures of Fe(o,o‐EDDHA) and a commercially available humic substance on Fe availability in a calcareous soil from Murcia, Spain (in vitro experiment) and on leaf Fe content and fruit‐quality attributes of Citrus macrophylla (field experiment). In the in vitro experiment, a calcareous soil was incubated for 15 d with solutions of sole Fe(o,o‐EDDHA) and humic substance and of a mixture of humic substance and Fe(o,o‐EDDHA) to determine the dynamics of available Fe. While the mixture did not significantly increase the available soil Fe, it did decrease the rate of Fe retention in the surface soil compared to sole Fe(o,o‐EDDHA). In the field experiment, the substitution in the application solution of 67% of Fe(o,o‐EDDHA) by commercial humic substance increased leaf P in lemon trees from 0.19% with sole Fe(o,o‐EDDHA) to 0.30% and leaf Fe from 94 mg kg–1 to 115 mg kg–1. Some quality parameters like vitamin C content and peel thickness were also improved with a partial substitution of Fe(o,o‐EDDHA) by humic substances. We conclude that a partial substitution of commercial Fe chelates by humic substance can improve crop Fe uptake and may thus be economically attractive. The underlying physiological mechanisms and ecological implications require further studies.  相似文献

In order to study the iron (Fe) distribution pattern in bean plants with different Fe nutritional status, french bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seedlings were precultured in a complete nutrient solution with 8x10‐5 M FeEDTA for five days. Thereafter, plants were further supplied with 8x10‐5 M FeEDTA (Fe‐sufficient) or with only 2x10‐6 M FeEDTA (Fe‐deficient) for another eight days. At this stage, the Fe‐deficient plants had much lower chlorophyll contents and lower dry weight of the leaves but higher reducing capacity of the roots compared with the Fe‐sufficient plants. For studies on short‐term distribution of Fe, the Fe‐sufficient plants were supplied 8x10‐5 M 59FeEDTA (specific activity 9.9 GBq/mol) and the Fe‐deficient plants 1x106 M 59FeEDTA (specific activity 98.8 GBq/mol). The plants were harvested after 4 and 24 hours. Despite a much lower supply of 59FeEDTA/(factor 80), the Fe‐deficient plants took up significantly more 59Fe but translocated less to the shoots (14.6% after 24 h) compared with the Fe‐sufficient plants (29.4% after 24 h). However, regardless of the Fe nutritional status of the plants, the majority of 59Fe was translocated in the primary leaves. Our results demonstrate a similar distribution patterns of root‐derived 59Fe in the shoots of Fe‐sufficient and Fe‐deficient plants, and thus, no preferential direct translocation of Fe to the shoot apex in the Fe‐deficient plants.  相似文献

The experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of arsenic (As) on the physiological and mineralogical properties of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. ‘Minorimugi’). The plants were grown in nutrient solution treated with 0, 6.7, 33.5, and 67 μ M As (0, 0.5, 2.5, and 5 ppm As, respectively) in the phytotron. Dry matter yield of shoots and roots decreased significantly with the As treatments, indicating that barley plants are As-sensitive and As-toxicity depends on the As concentration in the rooting medium. Necrosis in older leaves and chlorosis symptoms (whitish color) in the fully developed young leaves were observed at the 33.5 and 67 μ M As treatments. Arsenic concentration, accumulation, and translocation increased with the increase of As concentration in the rooting medium. Arsenic was mostly concentrated in roots and a little amount was moved to shoots, indicating that As was not easily translocated to shoots of barley seedlings. Concentrations and accumulations of phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), and copper (Cu) decreased significantly in shoots for 33.5 and 67 μ M As treatments as compared to the 0 μ M As treatment. Concentrations of P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, and Cu decreased in roots, but Zn concentration increased in roots at 67 μ M As treatment. Accumulations of P, K, Ca, Mg, Mn, Zn, and Cu in roots also decreased significantly at 67 μ M As treatment. Accumulation of P and the cations showed negative relationship with As. Concentration of Fe decreased in shoots at 33.5 and 67 μ M As treatments where chlorosis was induced in the young leaf but increased in roots at 33.5 and 67 μ M As treatments. It was suggested that As might induce iron (Fe)-chlorosis in the plants. Among the micronutrients, Fe translocation was more affected than others by As. This work evaluated the effect of cadmium (Cd) on the physiological responses of corn (Zea Mays L.) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) to iron (Fe) deficiency. For this purpose, seedlings of corn and wheat were cultivated under controlled conditions, plants were grown in different strength Hoagland's solutions for one month. In the fifth week, some seedlings were still in full strength Hoagland's solution (+Fe) and others were in full strength Hoagland's solutions without iron (?Fe). The plants were exposed to different cadmium (Cd) concentrations for four days. The plant chlorophyll content of young leaves, Fe and Cd content in shoots and roots, biomass production, and phytosiderophores (PS) release by roots were assessed. Results showed that Cd decreased the chlorophyll content of young leaves, accompanied by a significant shoot and root biomass reduction for Fe-deficient and Fe-sufficient wheat and corn across all Cd treatments. However, chlorophyll content and shoot and root biomass of Fe-deficient wheat and corn were lower than Fe-sufficient plants at different Cd concentrations. Iron-deficiency induced Cd accumulation compared to Fe-sufficient in wheat and corn; however, a depressive effect of Cd on iron acquisition in shoots and roots of Fe-deficient and Fe-sufficient wheat and corn across all Cd treatments was observed. Cadmium also inhibited PS release in Fe-deficient and Fe-sufficient wheat and corn. Iron-deficient PS release was higher than Fe-sufficient corn and wheat across all Cd treatments. These results suggested that Cd might reduce capacity of plants to acquire iron from solution by inhibiting PS release.  相似文献

Results of a field experiment designed to assess the effects of phosphate carriers, iron (Fe), and indoleacetic acid (IAA) on the Fe nutrition of peanut grown on a calcareous soil showed that single superphosphate (SSP) was more effective than diammonium phosphate (DAP) in improving Fe nutrition and chlorophyll synthesis. Increased phosphorus (P) and Fe contents of chlorotic leaves showing symptoms of Fe deficiency suggested that Fe, despite absorption and uptake, was subjected to inactivation, and that the Fe content per se was not the cause of the observed chlorosis. Better amelioration of chlorosis with the SSP treatment as compared with DAP indicated a role of sulphur (S) in preventing inactivation of Fe, possibly caused by excessive P accumulation. A foliar spray of Fe‐EDDHA corrected the chlorosis, but a ferric citrate foliar treatment did not. This further suggested that the mobility of Fe was impaired in chlorotic plants. An IAA foliar spray only also tended to improve Fe nutrition. Significant increase in peanut productivity was observed following improvement in Fe nutrition both with soil and foliar treatments.  相似文献
