Abstract:By investigating the relationship between function leaf area and single panicle weight in indica rice, It was discovered that the unit leaf area of varieties with heavy panicle had a higher photosynthetic rate. Accordingly, Strategy for super high yield breeding of heavy panicle type of intersubspecific hybrid rice was proposed. After more than ten years' practice, a series of cytoplasmic male sterile lines with large panicle and restorer lines with both large panicle and wide compatibility were developed, with which a series of heavy panicle types of intersubspecific hybrid rice combinations were bred with 9.5 t/ha of average yield, and 13.65t/ha of highest yield, 10% higher than that of combinations currently used in production, therefore, breeding heavy panicle type of intersubspecific hybrid rice is an effective way for improving three line hybrid rice.
