According to realistic specialty in plantations for southern type of poplar in Hubei province and detailed data from 31 sample plots, the optimal management density was explored in this paper by using dynamic programming method on the basis of the secondary effect of density model. At the same time,row and plant spacing was also put forward which is suitable to afforestation under different site conditions for plantation of southern type of poplar under premise of simultaneously looking after nutrient area for single plant, culti vation habit by masses and operation ability in afforestation. These could provide a scientific basis for afforestation construction, tendering felling and comprehensive management.
